The Fox in Basingstoke and Deane

Excellent pub. We wanted to sit outside and wanted something covered - just in case! We found The Fox and weren't disappointed. Saturday early afternoon it was very easy to book a space in the outside covered seating area. COVID guidelines were well in place and seating was well spaced. The food was brilliant - lots of choice from full lunches to sandwiches and traditional food. The king prawns were just that - king and huge. Being vegetarian I had the Asparagus and bean risotto - it was delicious. My family had the ham egg and chips and BBQ ribs - both big meals that went down a treat. Service was good and staff were friendly and attentive without hovering over us. We all had desserts as they sounded delicious - they didn't disappoint. The dark chocolate mousse with caramel was incredibly light and just delicious! We are just looking for a reason to go back and visit again. Highly recommend.

Great summer day catching up with people outside. Food was better than usual pub grub, staff really friendly

Excellent pub.. Service good etc.. However Vegetarian menu limited---- Risotto is Boring. The souffle was recommended--it was delicious however it would have been nice to have had more choice. Get Nut Roast on the menu!

I met three very old friends (. Known for ages but also fairly aged!) in this pleasant garden this week as it was fairly central for all of us. An excellent choice! The service was pretty good on a busy day and the waitresses very pleasant! Fortunately I plumped for the cheese soufflé which was really super followed by an excellent fish pie. Both very palatable.....All in all a very good experience on a warm day in late May. I forgot....Ringwood ale on draft really rounded off the meal!

We had a lovely meal at the Fox. The food and service was excellent. My wife had the BBQ ribs which were huge and really tasty, I had the the Sea Bass fillets which were also superb. Russell and the team were fantastic making the whole experience very enjoyable.We will be returning again in June with friends for Sunday lunch, so looking forward to that !

We have recently moved to Basingstoke and have been lucky enough to find this charming pub.The service,food,cleanliness were all excellent. We would of stayed longer however the weather was a bit chilly.It was nice to have a chat with the landlord who was very welcoming. Cannot fault in anyway.Look forward to going back one day soon

Visited The Fox on a sunny Sunday afternoon for an overdue catch up with family. We all enjoyed a main course and multiple drinks in the garden under the covering.The Covid measures put in place were well executed and very clear to follow.Service was smooth and efficient and we all agreed that the food was delicious. We had a variety from the Venison Haunch, Fish Pie, Fish & Chips and Sausage and Mash and we were all overjoyed with our choices, which given the colder weather still came out piping hot.I do have to say that I’m struggling to understand why anyone would give poor reviews for any business at the moment. Every single business in the hospitality industry has had the most awful, challenging and stressful year and they’re all doing their very best to try to cope in very difficult circumstances. It seems a shame when some people feel the need to publish their personal views on an open forum without taking the time to engage with the venue in person, when they could have possibly had any minor issues resolved at the time. If you’ve not got anything nice to say, maybe give them a break... they certainly deserve it right now...Regardless, the whole experience was wonderful and there was nowhere else we would’ve chosen to go for our first meal out post-lockdown

We visited 14 th April the second day after lockdown easing and found our experience extremely disappointing. It seems you get served in any random order regardless of who arrives first... it’s at the waitresses convenience and whether or not you can get yourself noticed. Two of our four meals were ok’is but two of us had the bar b q ribs which were absolutely disgusting. There was no more than two twin ribs ( hardly a rack) and both meals had more fat than meat. I can honestly say this was the worst serving of ribs I have ever had and I have ate bar b q ribs all over the world. The ribs were accompanied by a meagre 9 chips. A truly disgusting meal and an extremely disappointing experience. My advice would be to give the fox a wide birth which is exactly what we will be doing for the future !!!

I've been going to the Fox pub for many years now, with family and friends. Their service is outstanding and the food is fantastic! The pub and staff has never failed to please. We love it here, the best pub in the area!

While staying at Forest Holidays in Blackwood Forest we ventured out for a pub dinner and found a gem on our doorstep. Outstanding cheese souffle starter, partridge and venison for main course, great beer and cider on tap, all done with social distancing.

I really like the Fox at North Waltham – for us, it’s on the way to the Forest Holidays site near Popham, where we usually go once or twice a year, so we always call in then – on this occasion, coming back from Torquay, it was also fortuitously close, so we decided a detour was in operation. This is a great little country pub which, as I say, is really conveniently located and it does some excellent food. This was the first time visiting since Covid, so naturally the experience was a little different (full table service, including in the bar etc) but it was great to see the place thriving and continuing to provide a very full menu to visitors. I think we got the last available table inside, which was good , as it was cold out – started my visit with a pint of Rothaus (love that, only seem to get it here) and were given menus to look through. Chose Pate as a starter, as I recalled how good it was here – didn’t disappoint – good sized portion of smooth chicken-liver pate with a lovely onion chutney and additional bread. For a main I opted for the ham egg and chips which, whilst good, made me jealous of the steak and game pie that my partner ordered, which was clearly bursting with flavour – I know what I’m choosing next time! Finished up the meal with a lovely Maltesers Parfait – the puddings here are really quite something. Overall another very nice trip. Hoping to come back in a week or so, assuming things go to plan

We had a wonderful meal here. Our food was freshly cooked and absolutely delicious. The service was friendly and attentive without being too much. We would definitely recommend.

The perfect place to stop, this will now be our go to lunch stop for long journeys to the SW. 5 of us all ordered different meals and desserts, everything was great and the staff were really lovely. Recommend goats cheese, schnitzel, mussels and any dessert!

We were travelling home from Devon and stopped here for a meal. It's off the main drag and not visible to passing traffic from the main road although it is sign posted. The staff were super helpful and very friendly We shared some whitebait starter, then one of us had fish pie which came with 3 different veg, the other had chicken curry with poppadoms and mango chutney.Both meals were very tasty and thoroughly enjoyed. Social distancing is in place and the pub seemed popular as other people were eating.

Thank you very much to the whole Fox team. We are holidaying at Blackwood Forest and we booked a family get together meal at fairly short notice at The Fox for 6 people. In these Coronavirus times we were well accommodated and felt safe within the current Government guidelines given. The food was wonderful and the service team were polite, friendly and efficient. Thank you for a wonderful evening. Would thoroughly recommend.

Lovely food, lovely garden, lovely staff. Just lovely! Highly recommend for country pub lunch. Had a really big Ploughman’s and a yummy sausage sandwich.

Good protocol and friendly staff . I had a lovely cheese soufflé followed by sausage and mash. Thoroughly recommend both.

We had a lovely evening meal with 2 kids here. The staff are attentive and pleasant and the chef is producing tasty food. They have adpted to these COVID times well and I hope many others will visit and support them.

Thanks to TripAdvisor we found this lovely pub as a midway meeting point for a Covid friendly family lunch. Clean plates and full bellies all round (even fussy Grandma!). Freehouse with a good choice of real ale. Lovely staff and dog friendly. We are in the bar but the garden was beautiful and popular. We'll be back!

First visit since lockdown and part of the eat out to help out programme. Pub has a quite a large dinning room well spaced as well as a large garden with marquee. The food is still up to a very high standard and good size portions. Service was a little slow but with extra caution due to Covid restrictions it was not a problem. All staff are fully equipped with masks and contact details taken at the door.

Taking advantage of the Gov. offer we booked a table for 3 friends to meet. Beautiful surroundings, very well organised - all safe. Lovely staff, our waitress was so helpful (with a sense of humour!). We had jugs of water - such a hot day - along with drinks, the filo tart and a ploughmans. All delicious, we were there for a long afternoon which was no problem, luckily it wasn't too busy.Would happily re-visit and recommend.

Had a gorgeous lunch here today. Everything is very well organised and felt very safe. Totally COVID safe but still kept a good atmosphere. Staff very friendly and efficient. Service was at just the right pace. Food was delicious. On the government scheme so food was a bargain but it would be well worth the full price and I would happily go back here and pay full price.

Delicious Sunday lunch and great service too! Both had Lamb Shanks - delicious, and desserts were great. Restaurant practices good social distancing and tables are decently far apart. Definitely returning - what a great experience to have as my first pub trip in four months!

We booked a last minute table at The Fox for a family dinner - what a delightful place! The food was excellent, the outdoor setting was lovely, and the service was very good also. We were also very impressed with the COVID-19 processes and felt very safe. A lovely last meal to end our short holiday.

I wandered down a lane to stretch my legs after along drive. A lovely pub and beer gardens.Well kept and spotless. Friendly staff and service.

Post Covid the Fox is well organised and efficient, the food and beer are as good as they ever were, which is very good indeed. We visited on a lovely sunny Tuesday lunchtime, I had the steak and venison pie and my wife had the Chicken Schnitzels, our portions were huge and delicious, the garden is lovely in the sun and the staff are friendly and helpful, it’s so nice to feel safe and forget about the pandemic for an afternoon, relax with a nice meal and a pint of Good Old Boy at the Fox. Well done, if this is how things have to be now, it’ll do for me.

We returned after the covid lockdown and we wasn’t disappointed at all. Staff lovely and friendly and food was fantastic. The staff really made the evening even better as they were prepared to stop and talk. We will be returning again and again x

It's been some time since we were last at the Fox, but the wait was well worth it. Our biggest problem was trying to choose what to eat, as all of wanted at least several choices from the menu. There was certainly something to meet everyones desires, from the delicious venison steak to the pork belly special.The host was very welcoming and put every at their ease to enjoy the evening. All in all we had a great meal in convivial surroundings at a reasonable price.

Tucked away in a country lane - easy to park and hard to find if you didn't know it was there!. Good pub food - arrived hot and staff very pleasant. Highly recommend the peri peri chicken burger chips & salad.

We chose to sit at a table in the bar as we had the dog with us. Our reserved table was nicely tucked away in the corner. This is the first time I’ve had a meal here (have done soup and sandwiches at lunch time before). The meal didn’t disappoint. As noted in other reviews, the cheese soufflé was amazing. My hubby enjoyed the chicken liver parfait and the steak and Guinness pie which was really tasty with lovely pastry. I chose the pork belly with mash and cabbage. The veg was lovely with only the pork letting the meal down a little as it was a bit dry and not as tender as you’d hope for. However, still a good meal overall and good value for money. I think the restaurant is a nicer area to sit in...must love the dog!!

Went to the Fox for son's 21st. Did not disappoint. Service was excellent, food was excellent. Could not fault it Only teeny weeny little niggle was custard jug could do with a handle as it was ******* hot to get hold of. Good night.

Our second visit since Christmas to the delight of our companions .we even had three excellent courses. That's all I can say, everything was excellent and we left very contented

Lovely country pub with decent parking on a single road track,, had the ribs and they were spot on! As was the chips and salad accompaniments salad was fresh and not limp like dome places, great potion size too, staff were friendly couldn’t recommend enough

Booked a table for a meal with our Daughter and Son-in-law at the Fox. It is always an enjoyable experience. Excellent food and exceptional service every time we visit and last night was no exception.

Lovely country Pub up a narrow lane with large Car park. Good menu choices excellent food and friendly service. Very happy with first visit and will return soon.As it was a wet and windy night only suggestion is that additional external lighting is provided near the steps.Thanks for a great evening

Meeting halfway with family, The Fox lends itself to being a great rendezvous. Rob, always an attentive host; his staff friendly and efficient; food delicious: well presented and cooked fresh... and prices reasonable!

Luckily close to Christmas there was no problem getting a booking. As it was a birthday meal we wanted something special and we were not disappointed. All the food was delicious and served hot with excellent presentation. We have been before and will certainly be going back hopefully with friends.

We agreed to meet for lunch at a mutually convenient location half way between our homes. This is not on the main road but to our surprise when we turned up the large car park was half full! Obviously it is well known and popular despite its location. Or perhaps that is one reason it is so popular.

Lovely little pub with a nice atmosphere. Very good service with friendly, helpful staff. The price of the food, along with the quantity and quality of the food on the plate is why this review has resulted in 2 stars. Would I recommend this pub, for a beer in the summer yes for a meal, no. A number of dishes were extremely disappointing, fish pie, loin of pork, risotto are just some examples. To serve a roast dinner with two mediocre roast potatoes is not my idea of sufficient quantity. Also be aware, as another reviewer has commented, service charge is mandatory, and this will be subjected to an additional element of VAT.

Excellent food ,comfort and staff. Out of the way country pub with good parking, easy to find, cater for small children. Will not hesitate to visit this establishment again. Thirty five minutes drive fro Southampton, via the M3, A34, A33.

This is a beautiful pub, in glorious Hampshire countryside. Wonderful Old World ambience inside - but with top quality service and food. Serving staff quietly efficient and friendly - and Mine Host ,Russell Harding, charming and friendly. Whilst all the traditional Sunday Roast options were available, todays 'special' was calves liver and bacon, mashed potato - and we both ordered that. Wow! cooked to perfection, such flavour! I recommend this restaurant without hesitation.

So I’ve lived locally for 37 years and never been to this pub! How did that happen? Lovely little pub...the bar area where they allow dogs is not big but very cosy. Apparently the restaurant side is a little bigger. Garden looks promising for next spring/summer. We only had a sandwich but it was lovely. Friendly service and reasonable price. Will definitely be back!

There were 14 in our party including 3 children and we were all served efficiently. The meals were all served together and were nice and hot. Food was very nicely cooked and presented without any fuss. Myself and my husband had the pie which was delicious. This is the second year we have had a family gathering at The Fox and it certainly didnt disappoint.

Don’t rely just on your sat Nav if you’re going at night. During the day you should be able to see the signs.

The Fox has a warm welcoming atmosphere and the food is second to none. A nice choice of dishes that are cooked beautifully with a perfect wine menu to match. Russell is a great host and this remains one of my favourite restaurants.

This is a really great restaurant. The cheese souffle is absolutely superb and I would recommend the venison. Accompany with a great Primitivo and delight your taste buds. Lovely ambience - don't forget to book.

We booked for a lunchtime meal. The food was delicious and very well presented.

We have twice been to The Fox and neither time has been a disappointment. Lovely country pub beautifully maintained. Our first visit was on a Sunday so we all had the roast lunch which was delicious with generous portions of everything. On our second visit, the dining room was booked for an event so we sat in the bar area. This time we ordered off the menu and again, everything was good. Service was friendly and attentive on both occasions. The only negative to the bar area was that with the windows open, the smell of smoke drifted in. Smoking area should be away from the building.

Return visit after 30 years. Landlord and staff friendly and quickly found table for 2 in their full restaurant. Delicious fresh soufflé and tomato soup produced - just what we needed. Thank you well be back again - sooner next time.

Good food, good menu. Cheese soufflé is delicious. The Pork Belly was really really good. Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit and great for a special occasion.

Just had early evening dinner here with a friend I'm visiting in the area. Lovely country pub, staff absolutely charming, & I took my friend's recommendation & had the cheese souffle which was divine, & came with delicious crusty bread & an equally deliciously dressed small salad. Really wanted to try their sticky toffee pudding, but just didn't have room! Next time I'm visiting I will have a starter of some sort & the pud, for sure!

I've been to the Fox several times before and had really good pub food, the service has been fine, and the whole atmosphere warm and welcoming. The gardens are lovely and inside it has the feel of a proper english pub. But I'm afraid Sunday roast today was really disappointing. Nothing terrible about it; just lukewarm, bland and plain, with two undercooked potatoes, carrots, peas and broccoli. Slices of pork and pieces of crackling all of identical size and shape. No Yorkshire Pudding (Yes! I know! Yorkshire pudding traditionally goes with beef but it was promised with pork as well) . Very school dinner-ish. So disappointing.

We are a party of four adults who meet up twice a year for lunch and have at last found a pub which we love that is half way from where each of us live.

Wife and I came for an anniversary meal. Hadn't been to the Fox for a few years. Maybe we were expecting too much but - to be totally honest - it was just 'very average'. Maybe we caught them on a 'bad' day. Certainly it wasn't that busy - I recall that we were the only ones eating inside this particular section of the bar, sat next to an open window, where we were bothered (intermittently) by wasps throughout the meal. Yes, we could have asked for another table but we didn't.

As a family, we were staying at nearby Blackwood Forest. I booked for our first night having discovered that although we have a dog, we could eat in the bar. We looked no further after that. The setting is perfect. Large car park, beautiful gardens and a proper welcome by Russell and his staff. The locals turned out to be friendly too. The food on every night was excellent. A wonderful selection of dishes that would put a lot of bigger establishments to shame. The food was always well cooked and presented. The beef and venison pie was simply delicious! A big thank you to all for making our stay so very enjoyable.

We loved our experience and evening at the Fox tonight. Friendly service and good quality food with a lovely bottle of Rioja. Lots of great chats about dogs and sharing stories with new people.

We were desperate for a pub lunch and fortunately stumbled on this place. A lovely venue, well set out for a sunny afternoon’s drinks and eats. Staff great, service good. Worth stepping off the beaten path for. Recommended.

Not far from the M3 a good place to meet people half way between London and the coast. Booking was simple and I spoke to a man who made it sound like he was genuinely looking forward to seeing us. A good start.

We were driving to Devon and it was about half way for some lunch off the M3/A303 junction. We have 4 small dogs and they were quite happy in the adults garden wandering around while we had our lunch. Good pub grub no complaints - bit pricey but worth it for the convenience. We were happy to stop there on the way back as well.

Booking was simple via phone and hassle free when I changed the time of the booking. Lovely setting. Food was lovely, the cheese souffle did not fail to impress, 3 of our 4person party had it! The fish and chip special was tasty but the mushy peas were more like a puree, just a personal preference i like to have some texture. Service was friendly if a little slow but they were busy.

Yet again extremely impressed with their pies; the pastry was beautifully light and buttery, and there was plenty of a very tender filling.

Beautiful setting, but that’s where the praise ends. Sat inside and ordered drinks. Lemonade and lime and Pink gin and lemonade.

If you are in this area, the Fox is a must visit. Food unbelievable, location gorgeous, staff always helpful.

On an unscheduled trip to the area, we checked on TripAdvisor to find somewhere to eat. Looking at the reviews for The Fox it was soon apparent that it was just what we were looking for.

Great pub with great service. All the staff were helpful and friendly. Garden is beautifully looked after. Flowers everywhere! Will be looking forward to my next visit.

We had lunch at The Fox today and it was outstanding. The service was impeccable and the lunches the four of us had were delicious, well above and beyond the quality of most pub food. We'll be going back.

So me and my partner had been before and it was great! So we thought today was want a nice meal, so we came back.

We went here via the Good Pub Guide. Lovely country pub, tucked away a bit. Received a really nice smiling welcome from the bar lady then a younger lady came over and said we could sit at our reserved table if we wanted (as we were early) but service didn’t start until 6.30. We opted for outside where there is a covered area and nice gardens. Called us through on the dot so we could order 1st as they were expecting more people.

As ever, good welcome from Russell, given time to consider menu and wine choice. Even amended a choice on the menu to suit the need of a guest. Staters were lovely, main course was great , didn’t have room for dessert 🤔 (next time hopefully).

Hadn’t visited for several years. Gardens looked lovely, hanging baskets were great. They are dog friendly and large garden area is good when weather good. Menu was varied and looked tempting. There were no complaints from the 4 of us, ate everything. Well worth a visit, book though extremely busy at weekends.

We stopped in for an evening meal when staying elsewhere on our way home from Devon. There is a good menu and the food was delicious and very well presented. Would certainly go again if in the area.

What a great pub lovely ales superb food and great service ok t a very reasonable price, what more is there I would thoroughly recommend a visit.

It's rare these days that you get a genuine feeling that the owner/manager really cares about his or her customers and the experience those customers have at his or her establishment but I do honestly feel that the landlord of the Fox does care and it shows.

Had early supper at the Fox-great pub,really good food and service good. Only point would be that there are far too many tables in a fairly small room/s and it was chaotic and hot with too many people squashed in and no windows open

Absolutely outstanding food. We enjoyed all our 3 courses. The proprietor was also genuinely interested in our thoughts which was really gratifying. Highly recommended.

My husband was looking for places to eat near Basingstoke and came across this one. The entrance looked lovely with the flower baskets and we noted a separate garden for adults. We just had a couple of sandwiches which were lovely. I am sure we will be back.

Having researched the area prior to our visit I had high expectations and sadly, we're not met. Had been attending an event locally and dropped in for lunch, initial impression was great, loved the colourful hanging baskets and immaculate beer garden, OH's eagle eye commented on the cleanliness of the kitchen.

Lovely located pub for a family get together with great food. In fact the food was indeed delicious, cheese soufflé was awesome!

Another first class meal at this restaurant. Food and service always top notch. The room was busy which reflects the high quality and consistency of the menu but the service was attentive and a good explanations of the options and the specials.

With great views, superb food and a good range of real ales this has all the ingredients for a brilliant pub. The icing in the cake is that even when the place is packed over a Bank Holiday weekend the staff are efficient and everything runs smoothly. What could be better?

A lovely British gastro Pub about 1/2hr out of London Heathrow. We popped in on the way to Somerset. We were a little early for lunch, so we ordered drinks and sat down to chat and plan our next few days. There’s a large selection of ales on tap.

The Fox hosted a small wake for my family. We stayed on afterwards for a family lunch for 8 people.

Really yummy Pub food and really friendly, attentive staff.

This pub is just a few minutes drive from the M3, so ideal as a stop, rather than using a motorway services. The bar is very traditional with an open fire and the restaurant is in a separate room. We liked the different atmospheres in both rooms. The bar, casual drinking with the restaurant more formal. Good service with delicious food. I had the lamb which was tender and a good portion. We all enjoyed our meals and would thoroughly recommend a lunch time visit.

Friendly staff and good pub food. The only problem was very slow service. It was over an hour before we got our lunch. But all in all, it’s a good pub.

I visited The Fox last Wednesday for their monthly wine tasting dinner and was not disappointed! All four courses were delicious, the wines perfectly paired, the service was fabulous and the staff so friendly and attentive. Such a lovely fun atmosphere. I could not fault a thing. And to top it off this is probably the best value wine tasting with food you will find anywhere!

Have been visiting this pub for years with family and friends and have only ever had exceptional food and service. The menu always has an excellent selection and the food always cooked perfectly and delicious. The pudding menu is amazing and the Mars Bar cheesecake is definitely a favourite!!

The Fox is one of our all time favourite pubs for great food, service and a lovely atmosphere and we visit very regularly.

Very disappointing meal. Undercooked and Luke warm. When I mentioned it the waitress said she would advise the kichen. When I ordered a pudding it came out so hot I couldn't touch the plate or lift the handleless jug containing the custard. I sought out a waitress and obtained a replacement jug. I would not reccomend that anyone eats here

I just want to warn anyone thinking of booking a wake at this pub to think again,we booked my Dads wake here,when booking Rob the owner was lovely, he said we would have use of the whole restaurant this was very important to us,he said we would have no worries he would take care of everything, on arrival we found half of the restaurant being used by people having lunch they tried to hide them with a bit of green net,!

We hired The Fox for a wake. However, the section of the pub we had exclusively hired, was half full of people dining. No effort made to setup up or arrange any of the seating in the remaining areas. The result? 35 guests squeezed into a narrow space and our elderly guests not having anywhere to sit. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if you need to hire a venue for a wake do not hire this venue.

Very happy jolly atmosphere as we entered the dining area which we did not expect as we had booked it exclusively for my father's Wake. The dining area was partitioned by a Shere curtain leaving a small area by the entrance for all the family and friends to gather. The Restaurant manager shrugged his shoulders and seemed to think that a party going on at one end was acceptable for a wake, despite us booking the area exclusively. I WOULD NOT BOOK A WAKE AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT thinking you will have the area to yourselves. I can only guess you will only get exclusive use if no one else books for dinner. The Owner Rob could not be more apologetic and did offer a discount to our agreed price for the buffet. But that did not compensate for having to walk in to that atmosphere, it was very devastating and extremely upsetting for my mother who was expecting to sit and quietly reflect on her late husbands life with family friends. We had all sat with Rob a week before and was impressed with the spiel that they were experienced at organising wakes and that the exclusive area would be ours for at least 2 hours. And not to worry about extra numbers turning up or anything as we had enough to deal with with the Funeral. How very very wrong, we had to argue for the first 20mins to get more room for everyone to fit. Very very saddly disappointed Rob you and your restaurant manager let us all down.

We have visited this lovely pub for food a number of times both in the restaurant and outside in the summer. We have never had a bad meal here. The landlord and staff are always very welcoming and we love visiting.

Meeting friends halfway so chose from recommendations on this site - was not disappointed. Simple but tempting menu with some daily specials . The cheese soufflé was wonderful - almost don’t need a main course and could go straight to pud!

We popped in here after a visit to Winchester with the Kids. The pub has a lovely cosy atmosphere, there were quite a few diners for a Tuesday lunch time in the middle of February. Lots of great looking food on the menu and plenty of choice for the kids. They went for fish and chips. Chips were triple cooked, and fish was beautiful. Portion size was generous. We had the goats cheese with sesame and honey and the tempura haggis with whisky sauce for starters - both were great. For mains it was the pie special for my husband, which he loved and the mussels for me. Deserts were equally fantastic - especially the citrus pavlova which was most impressive. If I had the tiniest complaint it was that some of the mussels were a bit gritty - not really the restaurant's fault though. All in all a really great experience and we would go again if passing, in fact it would even be worth a bit of a detour.

We have been few times and always food and service were great, very nice rustic atmosphere, book before you go so to not gonna be disappointed. In bar area dogs are welcome and we love it, as we can bring dog with us.
