I cannot thank you Tom and your staff enough. You arranged everything and it was perfect. Staff had to take orders from guests who were inside, under the covered area and scattered across the lovely pub garden. Their patience was amazing and nothing was too much trouble when it came to finding guests who had given their orders for drinks and food and then scattered around the pub and grounds. Tom, your staff are a credit to you and they could have not been more helpful and friendly. The food was great and the setting was perfect. It could not have been better.

We made a reservation here for dinner for my partner's birthday. The food was delicious, with speedy service.We had the camembert bites for starter. My partner had the steak, and I had a chicken breast burger. Both were delicious... The pudding stole the show which was a homemade cheesecake with a brownie base! With the covid situation, there were plenty of tables with some of these under shelter with heaters.Would highly recommend.

Have had many meals at The Four Horseshoes over the years and have never been disappointed! Always top quality food and generous portion sizes. And the staff are always so welcoming and friendly. Highly recommended!!

I don’t usually do reviews but I’ve shared this one twice. Hands down the best meal I’ve ever had from a pub. Absolutely delicious, so friendly and generous portions too! We will be back!

Me and my Girlfriend very much enjoy a meal from the shoes, never a complaint! Definitely recommend the burgers!! Looking forward to having a meal in the restaurant when we’re allowed! Thanks to all who work at the shoes for yet another great meal!!

We would like to thank the staff of the Horseshoes for their efficient, personal and quality service yesterday. Our takeaway meal was delicious - it was tasty and kept hot whilst I took it home. We look forward to the next one.

Had another fabulous meal from the Horseshoes, beef burger, chips & not forgetting the giant onion rings... Lemon crunch pudding just as good in the restaurant! Can't wait for our next meal!

Stayed here for a couple of nights while house hunting in the area. On the face of it, the menu looks fairly standard fare but it is all so well cooked and flavoured that the result takes is way above the average. Some of the best whitebait I have ever had in generous but not silly quantities and an excellent breakfast. Waiting staff were delightful throughout. Really enjoyed our stay and hope to return one day. I think they could be a little more adventurous with their wine list. It is adequate but the food deserves better.

We have visited this restaurant before and had an absolutely wonderful meal with excellent food and friendly service. The last visit was sadly a different experience.Why is there a problem?We returned for a Birthday dinner with the family. 5 persons in total including my two daughters aged 23 and 21. When ordering alcoholic drinks at the table to accompany the starters for our meal, the waitress asked for ID from my youngest daughter. Since she was not driving or paying she had not brought anything with her, not expecting to need anything. Now I accept that maybe not bringing ID was an oversight, but we were eating. The waitress pointed out a sign that was behind the bar that said If you look under 25 then we will ask for ID. Now I accept that in normal times when young people may be walking up to the bar and ID is required - quite right. I did discuss this with the waitress, as my daughter was distressed. However we were eating and I did ask if it was OK, but the there was no change to the reply.I accept that people that are under 18 yrs can look older so appreciate the rules - At the bar!The law is quite specific, It is not illegal:For someone over 18 to buy a child over 16 beer, wine or cider if they are eating a table meal together in licensed premises.For a child aged five to 16 to drink alcohol at home or on other private premises. Therefore on this occasion the age limit would be 16 in our company. To be under 16 and therefore illegal my daughter would have to be 15 yrs old. With no stretch of the imagination could she have been 15yrs old.I fully respect the law but this was very poor interpretation of a company rule, and misguided by referring to 18 yrs old. As a result my daughter did not want to eat initially. It completely ruined the atmosphere of a celebration. The meal cost almost £150 and I feel we had a very poor night out. I would ask the management to instruct their staff to use some common sense, and ensure that they know the age is 16 yrs for someone eating in the company of adults.

What a wonderful experience this evening, we had an incredible turkey roast dinner and I cannot recommend the Four Horseshoes highly enough. We were waited on superbly throughout and the team went out of their way to make us feel welcome with engaging conversation and genuine interest in the customer. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Lovely evening meal, we sat in the bar area with our dog, everything was served to us at the table, menu was very good and what we chose was very tasty, lovely whitebait and poachers chicken was good. All staff were very friendly. Would recommend.

We popped in for a lunch on a lovely sunny afternoon, we had two big dogs so decided to sit out side. The very helpful staff said we could sit inside but as it was sunny we wanted to enjoy being outside. The service was excellent and the food was great, we had the steak, ale and mushroom pie with mash and veg and the pepper chicken with chips and peas of the specials menu. Both were very tasty and cooked perfectly, when we are in the area next year we will be back.

We have just returned from a 2 night break at the Four Horseshoes. Have to say that the service and food were both excellent! The young ladies serving were cheery and attentive, and the food delicious - we had steaks the first night (cooked to perfection and with the best onion rings!) and pies the 2nd night. The cooked breakfasts were also lovely and fresh, and certainly set you up for the day. The room was comfortable and spotless; the only slight critiscm would be that the doors are a bit fiddly to lock, as you have to do it from the inside before you come out. Felt very 'covid safe' with lots of hand sanitiser around, and everyone wearing masks and keeping their distance.We would certainly stay here again if we ever come back to Suffolk!

Happy smiley people and a warm welcome awaits. Huge portion sizes and great food. Tall people , well anyone over 5.6 to be honest mind your heads, quirky low ceilings with wood beams and water well within the bar.

Lovely lunch with my two children; very child friendly. Great food; the pie was super. Children shared a sausage, chips and beans. Guiness tasted lovely too. Have been here a number of times and it seems to have improved post lockdown. Well done. We will be back.

After a number of recommendations from friends i tried a take-away meal. It was not a good experience. I was told to arrive 30 mins later and call to let them know I was there and the food would be brought out 5 mins later. I arrived at 8pm and called. At 8:20 I went in to ask what had happened. My two meals arrived 5 mins later. One of the meals was Chinese Chicken Curry. It was dreadful. It was actually a mushroom curry with bits of breaded chicken (perhaps chicken nuggets or similar cut up) in the mix. The meal didn't taste very Chinese and certainly not of curry. Not sure what it was but i didn't eat it. Had it not been late and raining i would have taken it back. Fortunately, my wife had ordered burger and chips so I shared her chips. On the up side, the front of house staff were polite and attentive as I was waiting. I think maybe the chef had an off night but I won't be trying any more take-aways from there.

Food and Service was excellent.Visited this fabulous place while on holiday in Suffolk with the family.Service was excellent from start to finish. All staff were wearing visors and tables sad left apartWe had the burger and Chicken&a bacon salad. Burger was excellent quality with local meat. Salad was really generous portion.Desserts were excellent too.Shame we do not live close by as we would visit all the time but would definitely visit again when in this area and would recommend to anyone.

Great from start to finish, lovely staff very obliging great Sunday lunch my dinner did not come with Yorkshire pudding but no trouble to get me one throughly enjoyed ourselves

Food was delicious and plenty of it. Friendly staff, cosy pub and lovely outside seating area to enjoy a drink after the meal. Had one issue with one of the meals but this was dealt with very efficiently and professionally. Was still a lovely evening. Will definitely be back and would highly recommend.

After a very expensive, sleepless night in the cottage at The Park Hotel in Diss we called The Four Horseshoes as we realised that they did actually have rooms that allowed dogs and we spoke to a lovely lady called Karen who booked us in immediately for the following two nights.What a truly charming pub this is with staff who actually genuinely care about their customers. The room was lovely and extreemly clean and the food was honest and very reasonably priced. The breakfast was superb. It is so rare these days to find a pub like this - we should know as we are publicans ourselves! We honestly can't recommend this place highly enough - go see for yourselves, you won't be disappointed.

Good pub grub very good value on the eat out to help out scheme, very good white bait and scampi and desserts look good too. Lovely friendly staff. Will be back soon!

We were so impressed by this pub, while on holiday, we went twice. The food was delicious (in particular the steak pie), the service was really friendly and all the Covid measures were adhered to which made us feel confident. Would definitely recommend!

Came here last night on our bikes as we are staying at a local campsite. Very friendly staff and lovely pub grub, the camembert bites (starters) were amazing!

We visited for an evening meal and were very impressed by the measures taken to make the place COVID safe. Even the Perspex screens at the bar were tastefully etched with the pubs logo. Staff (wearing protectors) couldn’t have been friendlier and as usual lovely food and proper beer.

we have stayed in lots of b&bs over the years,but we have never experienced the welcome,the warmth,the total commitment from manager down to make a wonderful weekend break something really memorable..i have told all my friends and family in essex about the four horseshoes and really hope they take my tip and give it a look "".we will return again and again ,we have found our haven

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome, staff were very attentive and every member of Tom's team made us feel like this was our home for the weekend. Food was top rate, draft ale a delight and the room was quirky and the view spectacular. Cannot wait to book again, we will not stay at another now that we've found this gem in the heart of the countryside. We are shielding and thanks to the staff of The Four Horseshoes and family for collecting/delivering we are still able to enjoy the excellent food, via takeaways, during these very trying times.

I would like to thank the staff for everything they are doing during this pandemic.We just had some food from their takeaway menu and I will say it was excellent.Service was perfect and when I collected it the food was piping hot and very high quality! We will be using regularly for are take away food.Thank you from the lockwood House hold.

We have eaten here many a time before lockdown and ordered a take away for the first time tonight and we were not disappointed! Had the beef burger & chicken burger plus a dessert each....so delicious, and it was still really hot after driving 10mins home. Will be ordering again.

Ordered our takeaway treat for Friday night, was not disappointed. We've eaten here many times before the lockdown and were so pleased to find that the quality of the food (& service!) is still top notch. Had a beautiful bit of cod loin, so meaty in their lovely beer batter, can't wait for our next takeaway. Thank you The Four Horseshoes, such an amazing job you're doing in a tough time.

The service and ordering from The Four Horseshoes was excellent. All social distancing and hygiene was observed and the staff were really friendly. So you can imagine my disappointment when i got the food home.The portions were pathetic for all 3 meals, i mean really poor (see pic, sauce packet for scale). I ordered fish and chips at £9.00. Its a 'Pub takeaway' fish and chips, i know you can't compare to a chippy but even so... I have been supporting all the local pubs doing takeaways and this is by far the worst i've had unfortunately.

C-19 Takeaway service; having been here many times before the virus, this was the first time we tried the takeaway option. Food was fantastic, we had Fish & Chips, Hamburgers, a Seafood box and some puddings, all delicious, ordering, payment and collection were great. We even got to order a pint and a bag of flour!!!

We have eaten here several times before covid with friends and really rated it, and guess what!they are now doing great takeaways which is fantastic food with locals helping to support the local pub and the local pub supporting the locals. They have got it right, well done.Peter L.

Had another great weekend at the Four horseshoes , Great birthday party & meal on Saturday evening, superb Sunday lunch a lovely room for my two nights B&B; , The food and staff were brilliant as always, If you haven’t been there I would suggest that you give it a go ,You won’t be disappointed.

We decided to give the pub another go after having been back a while ago and had a bad experience. Had another bad experience and wont be returning now.

Lovely lunch out with friends. Comprehensive menu with plenty of choice for the fussiest eaters, in a quaint atmosphere. Good service, attentive without being too intrusive. Only one small niggle, please find a better way of serving condiments like ketchup and mayonnaise at the table. Picking up a small cardboard pot which almost bends in half as soon as it's touched and resembles something you find on the pills trolley in hospital is not ideal. Maybe a very small ramekin would do the job instead.

We really enjoyed our carvery in this gorgeous pub. First class food and service. We will definitely be back!

Firstly I should make clear that I’m reviewing the accommodation and not the restaurant.

Lovely old place with decor to match, not been modernised as would lose character. Thought we had wrong place as when looking for somewhere to eat it said it was the Three Horseshoes but having seen picture new it was the right one. Food very good and was nice to see Turkey instead of just chicken on menu. Would go again tradional and not so tradional food served

When discussing where to meet up this month, it was a unanimous decision. A firm favourite of ours, and this time we left room for dessert and so glad we did!! The lemon cheesecake was gorgeous! Really can't fault the four horseshoes, food is excellent pub grub, the atmosphere is always relaxed and comfortable, and the waitresses are always attentive and friendly. It won't be long before we're back again!!

First of all our party consisted of one vegan, two vegitarians and two meat eaters, and everyone was very impressed by the service provided considering they were very buisy and the quality of the main meal ( I had the steak and mushroom pie which I would recomend personally and the sticky toffee puding). There is only one problem for me I can't wait to go again to visit this exceptionally nice old pub.

We had a great meal in the pub in the evening, enjoyed staying in the big bedroom complete with creaky floors, beams everywhere and a comfy bed. Breakfast in the morning was also good with a very friendly lady serving us.

This really is a romantic step into the past with the comforts of the present day

Had Sunday carvery...had to book and glad we had an early booking as very busy! A mountain of food for the carvery all well cooked and tasty! Service from the young waitresses was great, lovely atmosphere and can't really fault anything!

Was invited along with my husband to a Sunday Lunch at The Four Horseshoes. Well I am so glad we went. This is such a lovely place. The food was also excellent too. We all had the Sunday carvery which was very good and yummy. The desserts were good too. I am so pleased we have been introduced to this lovely pub. We shall be returning again soon I hope!

We went there twice during our stay in the area....and enjoyed every minute of it.

I took my family for Christmas Day lunch today, and from the minute we arrived everyone made it so special for us,

Awful. Dried up meat, reheated potatoes, service non existent, with young waitresses standing around at the bar talking.

Mum and I found ourselves on a coach day trip for a mystery lunch, quite unexpectedly. The coach driver said he’d never had a party stay so long for lunch but the inn was so lovely; the staff were friendly and cheerful but very professional, too and the meal was delicious. The roast beef was beautifully cooked (nicely pink in the middle but there was a well done option, too for people that way inclined); the veg was plentiful and fresh; the Yorkshire puddings were on a par with my mother in law’s (none better!) and, finally, the roast potatoes...fill your plate with as many as you can without shaming yourself...seriously the best. This was followed by the nicest (homemade) Christmas pudding I’ve ever had with a pool of fine custard and a good coffee. This pretty place is highly recommended and we will be back next year. ♥️

Spent 2 nights here, beautiful building, delicious food & lovely staff. Everything is spotless & the rooms have everything you need-hairdryer, iron, bottled water, biscuits, shower gel. We had dinner in the restaurant both evening & had breakfast both mornings. They serve generous portions and it was beautifully presented & was really tasty. All staff were professional, friendly & helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Dads birthday treat, decided to try this for a Sunday carvery for 6 of us and our 1 year old daughter. We had booked a table in advanced ‘good job’, we were seated near the carvery, on first impressions I thought it was going to be very dark and small, it was very spacious and cosy. The carvery was really excellent, no words can explain how fresh and succulent it was really was. They accommodated my daughter extremely well by letting us have extra veg. The deserts were... incredible, you can tell they were homemade, the lemon crunch cheesecake and the Eton mess were amazing! If your thinking of booking for any type of occasion lunch/dinner I would highly recommend, food, service, waitresses just wow! The waitresses were so friendly, polite and just so lovely, they do the four horseshoes extremely Proud! So thankyou for such an amazing time. We will be back!

We were welcomed with a big smile and had very good service all throughout our visit.our food was perfectly cooked and served well.as a vegetarian I would have liked a bigger choice.

We are regular visitors to the Four Horseshoes as it was my husbands 70th birthday we couldn’t think of anywhere that we would prefer to celebrate it and we wasn’t disappointed there were 21of us in total, family and friends in the Henniker room which is quite private so we wasn’t to concerned about how noisy we were, the food and service was exceptional and could not be faulted everyone had a fantastic time. A huge thank you to Tom, Sarah and all the staff at The Four Horseshoes for making it a very special day.

Came in last night and can honestly say we all had such an amazing time, the food was wonderful (as always!) and the team really all made our night. The atmosphere was wonderful, proper fire roaring away in the bar, and the young girl who served us was so friendly and helpful, the shoes is now a firm favourite with our little group, thank you Four Horseshoes xxx

The food here is amazing! I had a Carvery on Sunday with pork and all the veg, the stuffing was particularly good! I will definitely be back again. I had the brownie for dessert and it was the most amazing thing I've ever eaten. COMPLIMENTS TO THE CHEF! The decor on the interior of the pub was amazing! The bar is very beautiful and the front of house staff were all very friendly and welcoming :)

Looking for 1 nights accommodation in the area for a family of 3, we booked a one nights stay at The Four Horseshoes. What a find!! Every single member of staff was genuinely friendly and attentive and made us feel very welcome. A wonderful pub with a great atmosphere and food. Our room was great - and nice and spacious for a family of three. And the cooked breakfast in the morning was amazing!! We will definitely come back. Thank you to all the staff for making us feel so welcome.

Tried to book a table only to be told earliest Available was 2.30, so after a nice long walk round Thornham we returned for a great carvery, lovely choice of meats, wide selection of veg and all the trimmings, all freshly cooked. Dog friendly too, Gus joined in with a chorus of happy birthday

Been looking forward to eating here as heard such good things about the carvery. Being vegetarian I ordered the nut roast but a little unsure with it being a Moroccan nut roast. To be honest it was really quite unpleasent as a vegetarian option. Spicy flavours and no sign of any nuts, really didn't go with roast pots, Yorkshire puds and all the veg. Tasted and looked more like a risotto, don't think I would bother going again unless they coukd offer something more suitable for a vegetarian roast.

Great ambience, low ceilings (you have been warned!) traditional thatched pub. Good range of beers and gins. Food excellent. Try the roasts, superb and the home made steak and ale pie. Lots of parking across the lane and of course....dog friendly. They do accommodation as well but not used it. Thoroughly recommended.

We often meet family here as it halfway between our homes. The menu is consistently excellent. We usually choose from the specials menu and have never been disappointed. Service is spot on.

Dropped into the Four Horseshoes for a bit of dinner. Local to us and has an amazing character. 400 + years old, beams, thatched roof, nooks and crannies. We ordered from the Specials. A seafood risotto, which came with salad and garlic bread, very tasty. The two alpha males chose the extra cheesey burger. 2 x 4oz local butchers beefburger, served in a bun with cheddar, brie, Camembert bites, homemade beer battered onion ring stabbed with a steak knife (which was impressive) with cheesey chips and a silly little paper cup (like McDonalds) filled with coleslaw. This is a quality pub with rooms and they serve the coleslaw and extra sauces in these cheap paper (non recyclable) pots. The other local hostelry uses small pottery ramekins for all their sauces, so why doesn't the Four Horseshoes do the same. It was a good quality, very filling, tasty and at £15, I

Visited here with my wife and dog for lunch, it was really very good. Had a very warm welcome when we arrived and service continued to be excellent throughout. Food was nice pub fare. Overall good value for money. Would recommend to others.

Went with a group of walkers for a midweek lunch. Ordered our food before commencing our walk, on our return and after a leisurely drink, our food arrived exactly as ordered, and without exception was enjoyed by everyone. The staff were very friendly and professional.

We took our friends there for Sunday lunch carvery,the choice of meat and quality was excellent + you get good portions,service/food and real ale (mauldons) Christies Golden.

It's a lovely room, I'll give it that: low beams + a hearth. And you can't beat tables outside. Shameful, then, to see such appalling service.

A considerable improvement in the food quality since my last visit which was admittedly a few years ago. There is a varied menu with lots of options to suit all tastes and a specials menu. The prices are fair for the quality and the portion size, which is generous. The summer chicken was very popular in our group - I had a burger with mozzarella,tomato & pesto which was also very good.

Staying overnight and have just had the most amazing meal. Fillet steak was absolutely divine and the lamb shank was the best my husband had ever had. Lovely setting, lovely ambience and lovely staff too.

A nice old country pub that has a restaurant but still has a decent bar space. We had a drink a a nice lunch from their extensive menu. Even though it was a Monday it was amazingly busy. Good service, good beer and good food.

Came here one evening for food, did have one of my pet hates which is when you walk in and don’t no what to do, do you go to the bar or just find a seat yourself for food? never the less (you go to the bar to be seated) the service was really good, we were served by a young girl who was extremely polite and helpful, food was good with large portions. I would recommend and would return to this restaurant.

Had a birthday meal here, after the kids booked it (and paid for it btw) The pub is very cosy and the food very nice. We had starters and also drinks to start, and they were all tasty. Main was piggy pie, locally made and very very tasty, well cooked and well presented. The only problem I had was it should have been served with gravy ( i should have asked really) because it was quite dry.

I had a family meal here to celebrate my parents birthdays. The staff could not have been more helpful, offering to help my mum with her carvery, adding more candles to those i brought for their birthday cake, and checking everything was ok without being over bearing. nothing was too much trouble..

We can't believe that we have never been here before and we will most definitely be going back again. The pub/building is absolutely stunning, the service was fantastic and the staff were very attentive. As for the food, it was amazing. We would definitely recommend the fillet steak, it was cooked to perfection and my husband was delighted that the surf and turf came with a fresh Cromer crab (his favourite). If you haven't been, then you are missing out. Well done The Four Horseshoes.

On driving past to get to another area as we were visiting someone we came across this pub and as it looked really old and cosy thought we would stop off for a coffee on the way back home but when we entered we were surprised how lovely it looked so decided to have lunch, it had a lovely ambience and the staff were very good and told us about the real well inside with water in and a pail with money in so you drop a coin in and make a wish then at the end of the month the owners empty it and send it all to a charity.

Dined here with my family on a friday night. the restaurant itself is lovely inside and it was quiet busy and buzzing. The food was nice, I've had better, but I have certainly had worse lol. Most of the staff were pleasent and friendly however one girl at the bar was quite rude.... she certainly didnt want to be there!!! Due to her behaviour I would not go back.

Been to this Pub a few times now and have never been disappointed ...... mostly been to their weekend Carvery.... Scrummy roast dinner....plenty of parking spaces too....will definitely go back from time to time.

Was looking for somewhere different to get our Sunday lunch, and fancied a carvery. Ordered our drinks and enquired about the carvery, said we were going to be sitting outside. Asked to pay for our drinks (was not allowed to create a tab) and then asked to come back and order food. Drinks were reasonably priced.

We visited here recently for a family birthday celebration and wanted to thank the lovely staff for making a fuss of our Dad. We were in a room on our own, a card was on the table for him on our arrival and the service was excellent. Food is pretty good to.

Since moving into the area we have eaten at the Four Horseshoes three times.

My brother and sister-in-law came to visit from the states. We had to take them here. The food is delicious and the building itself is unbelievable! Well done!

Are here while we stayed in the guest rooms. Food is amazing a great menu and cooked perfectly. Great value too and a good range of beers. Try one of the pies they are amazing.

Popped in with a few friends on the off chance of a table, and we were not disappointed! Yet another lovely lunch, I had the Maple Ham special, with poached egg, and it was gorgeous! Even had room for dessert (homemade sticky toffee pudding!) which finished our lunch of perfectly. Always recommend!!!

We decided to make a visit to our local pub after avoiding it for years because of a previous bad experience. Safe to say we wont be returning in a hurry. Our server (an older lady, I believe front of house) was patronising and not in the least bit friendly. The younger girls on the team were very welcoming and attentive. We each had a burger which was underwhelming to say the least, a meal and a few drinks came to £20 a head which isn’t bad but considering my veggie burger was flavourless and soggy with a measly scattering of warm chips very overpriced.

Booked a table for 6 for Sunday Roast and were told we had to leave by 2pm as they had another sitting but felt it was unneccecary to leave a note on the table to be finished eating and out !!! We all therefore declined desert to accommodate.

The service was OK. I had sausage and mash. The mash was OK but a few lumps. The sausages were overcooked and hard on the outside. The green beans were uncooked almost raw! I was a guest at this meal so didn't make a fuss. If I had been paying for this meal I would have complained bitterly, and not attempted to eat any of it. I did mention to the waitress that the sausages were overcooked, for which she apologised, but nothing further! I won't be returning.

We had been here for a meal when staying in the area & decided to have lunch en route to Hunstanton. The food was freshly cooked my husband had the steak ale & mushroom pie & said the meat was so tender it melted in your mouth with nice pastry, I had the horseshoe chicken which again was really nice. We also planned our return journey to have lunch again both had fish & chips, nice white fish & hot! The staff very friendly & welcoming would never miss an opportunity to eat here.
