The Fludyers Arms in Suffolk Coastal

I stayed in The Fludyers last week and really don't understand the 2* rating... the hotel is beautiful, the food fantastic and the staff very helpful.

Rooms are spacious, clean and with a modern design. The balcony rooms overlooking the sea are brilliant. Such a lovely experience to wake up to the sound of the crashing waves and the sun rising over the horizon. The reception is at the bar, so there is competing service between you and the punters wanting pints, which can leave you waiting awkwardly. At peak times it might be a while before phone calls to reception are answered. The restaurant room is separate from the bar, simply arranged and with tasty interpretations of British dishes with some international cuisine mixed in. Notable mains include the fish and chips, the pork belly and rosti, the Thai yellow curry, and when it returns to the menu, the featherblade of beef. The menu changes regularly, so expect new and interesting courses each time you enter. We wait expectantly for April’s… Overall, this is a delightful place to stay when visiting Felixstowe for work or pleasure. It’s got 120 years of history but with a modern spec. Definitely make this your base if you get an opportunity.

Called in for some food. Thought I would have cheesey chips. Have not had those for years. Poor old chips with a dollop of cheese . Won’t be back for more!

I recently stayed at the Fludyers as part of birthday celebrations (party also held in their Simpson rooms). I could not fault any aspect of the weekend. From start to finish the staff and service was impeccable. The room I had (no 7) was stunning and spotlessly clean. It came with all the tea and coffee making amenities - much appreciated by someone who drinks endless tea. The room has a lovely balcony and you could see the see from one side - lovely to sit out on and wind down in the evening with your cuppa while listening to the waves of the sea 😁. While there, I had plenty of drinks and particularly liked the French Martinis which were well made. The food is very fairly priced for the high quality and generous portions. I got breakfast included as part of my stay, which given the quality of the room made it seem like I got a real bargain. There was ample and free parking just outside the hotel and it is ideally located for a lovely stroll along the beach front or for a meandering walk into town. This boutique hotel, is everything you want to have a relaxing break away.

Why is this hotel only classed as 2*. It is definitely 4* for sure. We had a lovely stay. We were greeted by friendly staff who even let us go to our room 3 hours early as it was ready. The room was large, tidy and clean with a cafetiere and a great selection of refreshments. Comfortable large bed. Tv. A nice touch were the chairs in the window. I loved the views from our room looking out to sea. There was a huge bathroom, again very clean and tidy. Downstairs, the bar was full of people and had a friendly atmosphere and all our meals were superb. The following morning (today), we were greeted by different staff but equally as friendly. The full English breakfast was very generous and tasty. The decor of the hotel is calming but my only very small criticism is that the hotel were a little more adventurous with the decor and used some funkier seating and bolder paint colours. Other than this I cannot fault anything about this hotel, lovely ambience, lovely staff, spacious rooms and excellent food. 👌

Went for breakfast. On initial walk-in, no one spoke to us. No one said hello. They just looked at us and carried on the till or bar. We were standing at the bar for quite some time. When we did ask about breakfast, they found us a table, and the waitress & young waiter who served us were REALLY good. The food was good. Kids loved the waffles, and it was reasonably price, just very unwelcoming to begin with. The dining room lacks atmosphere, but the service in the end was very good. They were good with the kids too. Went for dinner, set menu very good value, high restaurant quality food, large portions and well presented.

Only popped in for a drink and to meet up with friends.

Dirty glass had to asc for replacement. But I understand how owners pay minimum wage and probably don't care .

Our first meal at The Fludyers. Food was very tasty, well presented and piping hot. The service was excellent. We took advantage of the set menu offer and really enjoyed our evening out, thank you. Hoping you will consider doing similar deals.

This is the best hotel where to stay in Felixstowe! It's the perfect location not only for sleeping but also for dinner. It's a very historical hotel but perfectly renovated with rooms very comfortable, clean, quiet. It's located just in front of the seaside with a walking distance to the center of Felixstowe and at 5 minutes from the golf course. Perfect place also where to drink something.

Me and mum went here for dinner after a lovely afternoon shopping in town. Is a lovely bar and restaurant over looking the sea. Coffee was really good and piping hot. We ordered fish and chips and were very impressed. Best fish and chips have had in ages. Very nice portion size too. The bar staff and waitresses were very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend.

Went for lunch on new-year day. They were well staffed and pleasant. Food was lovely and it came very quickly considering how busy they were. Definitely will go again. Also dog friendly.

We had a fabulous full English breakfast on Christmas eve morning. The breakfast was delicious and the service excellent.

This hotel has a great bar and restaurant. Fantastic table service inside or sitting watching the sea. Lovely beers wines an spirits, and very nice hot chocolate. Very popular so you would be wise to book a table if you want food.

We only wanted two cups of black americano coffee nothing difficult or to hard to make so we waited over half an hour and nothing arrives I did chase a couple of times was told yes it’s now being made and it’s on the way but nothing , well in that half hour wait we were bought over two bowls of soup which the waiter did get annoyed when told not ours and the coffee did turn up but it was not ours , so I went inside to ask for a refund , which I got no problem I did get a bit of attitude from the coffee making person.

Popped into the Fludyers for breakfast with friends and had a lovely time. The food was tasty and the service to be commended. I enjoyed the well presented toast, made from a tasty brown bread plus the generous jam and butter. This was a really nice experience – thank you.

I had heard how good the food was at Fludyers Hotel but was not prepared for the outstanding meal we had in the amazing restaurant overlooking the sea front at Felixstowe. I ordered fish pie expecting something bland but it was fantastic. The specials menu was limited but we started with cauliflower soup which was delicious and my brother had lambs liver and bacon which he thoroughly enjoyed. The service was perfect as well. I doubt there is anywhere better locally and at a very reasonable price. Loved it!!

We really enjoyed our weekend at Fludyers Hotel with all the family, celebrating a milestone birthday. The staff were great, really going the extra mile, the rooms were lovely, very well equipped and comfortable, and the food was delicious. Sunday lunch was particularly good, both the roast beef and the vegetarian roast, and the desserts were excellent.

Ordered fish and chips and a coronation chicken sandwich, with a pjntbof Ghost Ship and a small Aspall cider. 1. The Ghost Ship was obviously the one left in the pipes overnight, so had to ask for another one - not a great start! The tops of the granary bread sandwiches were dry and almost crispy - obviously the first slice from a not very fresh loaf - I had to ask for a new top slice, which was a little better! The fish was OK, but not much flavour. Overall, for a special day out, this was not the start that we had hoped for. Would I return? No. My wife had an upset stomach about 30 minutes after we left - coincidence maybe? You decide...

We visit a couple of times a year and went for dinner last evening. The food was excellent as always but the service was extremely poor. The staff are the focal part of the hospitality trade and the staff last evening appeared to require training. They appeared to be very inexperienced and lacking in basic knowledge. This is a lovely hotel and restaurant so please train the staff so they don’t let the side down.

We come here every 3/4 months. The food has always been nothing but excellent! The fish especially so. Staff is very helpful and very friendly. We simply love going back :)

We went to our local last night with some friends who had come to stay with us We arrive at 7.00 for our booked table at 7.15 We had a long wait at the door with no acknowledgment at all from the staff We eventually got seated and placed our orders choosing to have the special advertised on the board only to be told no special left at 7.20 Having to make. Second choice and being somewhat disappointed we received our meals which were ok. But the service was appalling we were not offered further drinks or dessert and eventually went to the bar to pay I appreciate Staff shortages at present but if they are not trained and can’t do the job don’t take the bookings it was just hectic and staff were running around like headless chickens This lead us to being very embarrassed in front of our friends and will certainly vote with our feet

Stopped in after a walk. Lovely meal and bar has good choice of beer. Staff very friendly and bonus was that Sid the staffy was allowed in bar area.

Lovely location for the hotel on the seafront of Felixstowe. Couldn’t get any closer to the sea. Rooms were lovely and spacious and clean. Cleaned each day by staff. Food was amazing. Had tea one night and breakfast both mornings. Both really nice and a good selection of veggie options. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. Would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Felixstowe. It couldn’t be beaten.

Unfortunately no staff being responsive or even welcoming even though there were so many of them. Queue at the bar - one person serving and one just washing glasses - thought therefore she wasn’t old enough to serve - went back for another drink and she was then serving Sandwiches used to be served on doorstep bread - mine was medium slice loaf at best - sausages within the sandwich not great either £6.45 a pint of Blue Moon - rather shocking too

Sadly not worth the money, food was good but the service was terrible. We went for Sunday lunch and we have been several times with service each time just a bit worse each time. We went and ordered at the bar an were told there would be a 45 minute wait for food. I ordered some olives and bread to keep us going until food arrived, I was told this would come out straight away....fast foward 45 minutes later and we received olives, bread, starters and mains all at once. When we asked why we recived it all at once we were told that's the way we ordered it. On paying I queried why we received our food all at once, the response was sorry....a lot of food was wasted and therefore not worth the money. Shame could be really good.

Thoroughly enjoyed lunch at this perfectly positioned restaurant. Food and service was excellent. Given it’s situation and the quality of the food served I felt this restaurant offered excellent value for money. Would definitely return.

Finally got to enjoy afternoon tea with the family. A warm friendly welcome when we arrived. This was followed by one of the best afternoon teas we have had. Lovely fresh sandwiches but the highlight was the scones. After we did manage a cake or two but admitted defeat and packed the rest to take home. Amazing food. Look forward to going back soon.

Good CV19 precautions in place including cutlery delivered in plastic bags. The menu choices are from the bar or a la carte. We decided on a main course and dessert. The quality wasnt as good as previous but probably getting used to the changes imposed on the hospitality trade. We had our table from 7.15 pm until we were reminded of last orders and the early closing time. The server was very friendly and polite. We were checked on at good intervals, we were able to have a rest before the desserts and then coffees. They had run out of my choice of pudding and chose the Eton mess. My mark down is because of my disappointment, it was more of a mousse with little meringue or fruit pieces. Otherwise I recommend people book here and try it, support the restaurant trade if you can.

Yesterday my wife and I had another good lunch at The Fludyers in Felixstowe. We both chose fish and chips. The cod was fresh and readily flaked into creamy chunks. It was not at all fishy but tasted of the sea, as it should. The batter coating was golden and really light and crispy. Service was excellent in spite of the restaurant being busy. As it was sunny we ate outside and watched the lapping waves just across the road from our table.The Fludyers is an interesting Edwardian building constructed in brick and displaying unusual Flemish gables. Although the building has been recently renovated and extended it has been done so sensitively. People are beginning value Felixstowes late Victorian/Edwardian architecture. Architects like Cotman were not afraid of balconies, turrets and a certain amount of decoration. The area around The Fludyers is worth exploring.Felixstowe is restoring and rejuvenating itself. The Fludyers is part of that process.If I lived nearby I would lunch at The Fludyers every week.

Sollten Sie einmal nach Feixstowe kommen, kann ich den Besuch im Fludyers Restaurant nur empfehlen. Mein Mann und ich haben unseren Jahrestag mit einem ausgezeichneten Abendessen gefeiert. Das Essen hat uns von der Vorspeise, ueber das Hauptgericht bis zum Nachtisch sehr gut geschmeckt. Das Steak war so zubereitet, wie mein Mann es gewuenscht hat und ich war mit meinem Haehnchen Gericht mehr als zufrieden. Mit einem leckeren Glas Pinot Grigio und einem frisch gezapften Bier wurde das ganze noch aufgerundet. Vom Restaurant aus hat man eine schoene Aussicht auf's Meer, welche von der Terasse aus natuerlich noch besser ist.Die Service Kraefte waren die ganze Zeit ausgesprochen aufmerksam und in dieser besonderen Zeit wurde mit Umsicht auf die Hygiene - und Abstandsregeln geachtet. Both morning and evening meals were simply delicious. Staff were very accommodating to my coeliac (gluten free) requirements and despite being very busy, the food was served prompt and , more importantly, with a smile.

My husband took me to this restaurant to celebrate my 60th birthday. We were expecting a lovely evening and meal. Service was terrible, had my meal slammed down in front of me, waitress didn't ask if we needed anything or came back to check on us. Plate was cold, with a hot main meal, steak luke warm, peppercorn sauce too spicy. Wasn't offered any further drinks. We left before dessert, didn't want to risk it. My husband spoke to the duty manager as we left who wasn't really interested.

After walking for 1 hour with my partially disabled mum were arrived and were shown to bar stools which could not be used for my mother. A rude eastern European waiter said we could not borrow a chair from a neighbouring 6 person table where only 2 were seated the opposite end because of the governmentand covid. We showed him that we were not moving anywhere nearer because thespace was unoccupied. He told us to blame the government. He was standoffish andnot prepared to discus his risk assessment. he then offered to reseat us and left my elderly mother standing, when a table became available he didn't offer it to us but a new couple that arrived. this service was disgusting, discriminating and quite frankly the worst example of coronavirus panic I have ever seen. I was shocked. Do not go here...clearly issues that neednto be resolved and no hope this review contributes.

Top Quality food and plenty of it. We had Sunday Beef Roast and it brought back memories of how roast meals used to taste.. Well done Chef.! The young man who served us was very polite, pleasant and efficient. Staff cleaned the tables thoroughly before every customer sat down and all staff were wearing face masks. Felt very safe in this environment.We visited again Tuesday for Bar Meals. I had the Line caught fish which was delicious and my wife said the same about her Cod Goujons. Young Grandson loved the Sausage & Chips !
