Normally would give this pub a great review but unfortunately due to one member of staff running it on this occasion I was unable to even have a portion of chips. I was rudely told that if I hadn’t booked a table I couldn’t order any food. This pub is normally very accommodating even if you haven’t booked for side dishes or snacks outside. Unfortunately Sarah ( red hair) is incredibly unprofessional and unwelcoming, this is such a shame and something needs to be done about it as I’m not the only person who feels like this.

Met up with other members of my family on Sunday (24th). It was a year ago my older brother got married, so we chose to have dinner here Service at the bar was prompt, no issues there 👍 I had studied the menu on the pub's website, so I was pretty certain of what I was going to order The Scotch egg starter was very tasty, and quite substantial in itself. No issues there either 🙂👍 I went for the roast lamb dinner. The Yorkshire puddings were huge - nearly the size of the old cooling towers at Didcot Power Station! The lamb was both tender and succulent, and the veggies were perfectly cooked, Al dente, just how I like them! Full of flavour For afters, the blackberry & apple pie with ice cream was to absolutely die for. Definitely no issues with that either 😀👍 In actual fact, there was nothing at all to find fault with, and I will very happily eat here again 😋 Well done to all 😊👍

Total credit to all the staff last night that we working in very hot conditions but still pulled off amazing meals and service. There were five of us in our party and nothing was too much trouble even though it was clearly very busy. Fantastic menu, so much to choose from and all cooked beautifully. All of our party said how delicious the food was. A special thanks to Emilia our waitress who made sure that we had everything we wanted and needed. You are a credit to the team.

A family Birthday celebration, for which we chose The Fleur as had previously enjoyed visits over the years. However, the poor service, lack of communication and unappetising food spoilt this particular evening. Spoke with the Manager at the end of the evening whilst paying and was emphatically assured that the landlord would respond to our feedback the next day. We waited a week without any response so decided to email the landlord. Issues below. • Three inexperienced schoolgirls appeared to be running the floor, or trying to, without anyone more experienced to take control and oversee the restaurant. Manager seemed caught up with serving drinks at bar. • As soon as my elderly Mother and I walked through the door, we were pounced on and asked what we wanted to drink (we were still standing up with our coats/bags in our hands). I hadn't even said hello to the rest of my family let alone knew what I wanted to drink. Once we had ordered our drinks, the wait thereafter was very long. • Meals were ordered and after another extremely lengthy wait, one meal was put down in front a member of our party. She was just about to put condiments on her food when the plate was snatched away and the waitress said, "oh my God, I've given it to the wrong table" – I question whether this should this have been removed and given to another customer - infection control? Again, yet another wait ensued for the correct meals to be delivered. • The website menu had not been updated to reflect the current choice on offer, which was frustrating as my Mother wanted to take her time at home to choose her meal, although we accept slight variations are inevitable. • The cod dish (described on the menu as ‘Pan Fried Cod, New Potatoes and a White Wine and Pea Sauce) was overcooked and very dry (grey, limp skin), sat on what looked like a puddle of pea soup. I had three tiny halves of new potato in my plate (a serving?) – that’s it. I had to eat slowly so I didn’t finish the meal in three mouthfuls. Three of our party were unwell during the night (one who was vomiting that night – maybe her frozen scampi was not cooked sufficiently). • I did not voice my dissatisfaction as I did not wish to spoil the Birthday meal. When the waitress came and asked if everything was okay with the food, she looked directly at one person only and when he answered yes, scurried away without asking the rest of the table. I had my mouth open to ask for an actual serving of potatoes (rather than a tiny garnish) but she had gone. • We had finished our meals, then waited, and waited, and waited for the plates to be cleared. Eventually a waitress came and cleared the plates, sighing as she did so. • A Birthday cake was taken to staff at the bar area and I asked if the cake could be brought out with coffees as a surprise. I was told that this was fine. A waitress then came to the table asking "when shall I bring the cake out?" in front the guest who’s Birthday it was. Surprise ruined. • We ordered three coffees and ice-creams, neither of which came. The cake didn't come. We waited and waited . . . • As the child in our party was becoming tired and fractious (she was looking forward to her ice-cream), we cancelled the coffees, ice-cream and cake, paid and left. I understand the pub was extremely busy on that night. However, employing three schoolgirls to run the floor when, in fact, experienced, efficient and knowledgeable staff are needed says a lot. Money saving? We were assured by the Manager that the landlord would respond to our feedback the next day. No response was forthcoming, maybe they were hoping we’d just forget all about it. Had the landlord taken our comments on board, apologised and offered us a refund, then we would have continued to use The Fleur for gatherings as we have done for many years. We understand hiccups happen. However, given the lack of any response as promised, until we emailed, and a lack-lustre, defensive reply to our email, it was evident they weren’t really bothered, so we won’t be returning or recommending. They’ve lost loyal, local custom unnecessarily.

Originally bought tickets to see Dean Friedman in concert but decided to go in the early afternoon and have Sunday lunch. The pub was cozy friendly and despite being busy good service. We had the roast lunch one meat and two meat which were beef and lamb. Superb. Excellent Yorkshire and vegetables. In the evening we returned for the concert. It was a very pleasant close and personal evening with an excellent artist who I have admired for many years. All in all a great pub, warm and friendly.

Very disappointed which is unusual but the food was slow and when the main meal arrived for 5, 2 were returned. Fillet not cooked as requested and still rare and the other meal completely wrong. Mistakes happens but meant we were not all eating together and to make things worse the wrong meal and the replacement were both on the bill. No apology and reduction until we asked and questioned the bill. Customer service and attitude need attention .

I went a long walk in the freezing fog and got there just in time to order food. They were lovely people and the food was amazing. I was freezing and was very grateful to be seated by a radiator although the whole place was warm. Usually when there is such a large menu it has diluted the quality of the food but the food was just spectacular and the attention to detail was fantastic. I love it here and am very grateful for how well looked after I was. Thank you.

A lunch date booked for 12.30 midweek, we were warned that there'd be a large party attending, so the pub would be busy. It wasn't intrusively so, and service was excellent. There was a very extensive menu and a good choice of beers. My only complaint and one easily corrected; a friend and I both ordered fish and chips, coming with a choice of peas, 'mushy' or not. I couldn't say what species the fish was, other than 'white' but it was a generous portion, the batter was excellent and it was well cooked. The problem was, the fish was served on top of the chips, predictably, the heat from the fish made the chips soggy; losing their crispness. Whether the kitchen thinks this makes for a better presentation or disguises how few chips there were (an ample portion for me, so no complaints there) but the chips were ruined. Please Fleur de Lys, don't serve the fish on top of the chips. However, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend and would visit again, perhaps, I'll not be ordering fish and chips next time?

Took an age for our lunch order to arrive, especially considering it was mainly only baguettes, and we’d booked early at their insistence. Certainly not worth the wait. The starters were typical defrosted catering pub grub that can easily be cooked at home. My main was a smoked salmon baguette but when it finally arrived after an hour of waiting it didn’t look pink and fresh - an amateur attempt at scraping away the unappetising brown flesh and plonking the remaining mush in the bread was blatantly obvious. So it was returned to the kitchen - no apology for the extra wait nor the poor quality of the food - the replacement, I suspect, was out of the same packet. Waiting staff were charmless and preoccupied with a party table of 14 and obviously couldn’t cope - so why take on extra bookings? Overpriced pub grub at its worst, urgh!!

Four roast dinners & a child’s meal ordered. Food arrived in good time & looked lovely. However, one meal was returned as cold, they simply warmed it up & returned it,meat was fatty, roast potatoes hard, Yorkshire puddings burnt, minimal gravy. Child’s meal was inedible apart from the fries, pizza was a cheap microwave one which was rock solid around the outside & carrot sticks were obviously left over from 2-3 days ago as they were so bendy! Tables started to fill up so didn’t think it was appropriate to start saying what was wrong with the food but I did ask the waitress if the landlady was about but was told she was busy. Couldn’t wait to leave, didn’t want a dessert & didn’t finish our drinks. Phoned when I got home to ask to speak to the landlady, woman on end of phone very rude & just spoke over me, left my number. Landlady rang, wasn’t at all interested in our complaint & was very unhelpful, shame after this pub was recommended. Will not be visiting again, will not be recommending to anyone, wish we’d never gone

I picked this pub due to some of the positive reviews I read online, sadly my experience was not a good one. We were a party of 4 adults and 1 child and it started badly as I went to get a glass of water from the small free water dispenser on the bar (nice touch I thought…), but with the gentlest of touches the handle broke off in my hand, much to the displeasure of the lady behind the bar. If I would have been rough handed I wouldn’t have minded, but it broke so easily that I did not find the tone in which she spoke to me befitting, especially as I heard her say to a colleague “the handles broken off again”… if it keeps happening maybe throw it away and buy something of a decent standard. The food.1 children’s roast. Ok, chewy beef but reasonable size.2x Adult Sunday roasts. Chewy meat with poor array of vegetables, for the cost you can get far better at many of the carveries around Oxford.1x Cod. Looked nice and tasted ok, but the skin wasn’t crispy on top which is a faux pas you don’t expect from a professional kitchen.1x Heidi Pie. The filling was tasty, but the shortcrust pastry …. cor blimey I needed a strong set of teeth to bite through it, there is no doubt it had been overworked. Horrible. Small portion of food also which was disappointing. We didn’t stay for desert as the mains were not up to scratch.Layout. If you like sardines then your love this place, far too close together and if you are unfortunate like us to have a table of loud talkers right next to you then it makes it even worse.Maybe they just had an off day, but it was off enough for me to put the Fleur De Lys Didcot in the ‘Not Going Back’ box.

We decided to have two starters, whitebait and crispy calamari .. both beautifully cooked and presented. I telephoned in the morning to make a reservation for a table for 2 at midday, not a problem sir, we look forward to seeing you.It is a lovely old world pub, very clean, tidy and popular with families. My partner and I both ordered the roast beef, when our dinner was served it is possibly the best roast beef dinner I have ever had in an English pub.The cauliflower cheese was to die for, the slices of sirloin were cooked to perfection, the roast potatoes were the hottest I have ever tasted, perfectly roasted and a proper Yorkshire pudding. A large amount of vegetables as well and a separate gravy jug if you needed more gravy.Top compliments to Head Chef with his red head band and his team, they produced a superb meal. Being an ex restaurant manager I know what goes on in the kitchen of all hotels and restaurants, I 100% recommend the Flur de Lys.

The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. The food was nice and the portions generous. The pub also offered a great choice of draft beer. We visited the village as it featured in a 1970s story of Doctor Who featuring Tom Baker called The Android Invasion. We were impressed by the memorabilia inside the pub and the knowledge of the staff. One chap (The owner maybe - I should have asked his name) was extremely helpful and pointed us in the right direction of a couple of other nearby locations used in the filming. We were so pleased to have come to your pub and village, both so much more than a Doctor Who location. Thank you for your hospitality and we hope to see you again sometime soon.

(Steak was tough & tasteless/Fish was slimy & tasteless, think I give my cats a better type of fish, not even sure what fish it was). The reason we went here was to eat & so unfortunately for that reason can only score it a 2. As I previously said it was a lovely pub but our only reason for ever going to a pub is to eat as we don't drink alcohol, due to my husband saying that we wont go back I can't score this higher.

Great pub with lots of character. The menu is very extensive and even has a pie menu. The food was very tasty well cooked and very well presented. The staff are friendly and the place is full of locals. This with a good selection of beers makes this pub a great place to visit.

Always love coming here, there was a good selection of festive food on the menu, 3 of us had traditional Turkey with all of the trimmings and 1 of us had a steak meal which he said was the best steak he has had for a very long time, cooked to perfection. To start it was cray fish and smoked salmon with salad and one of us had the soup, all of which was delicious, for dessert the traditional Christmas pudding with cream was most enjoyable as was the Pavlova and finished off very nicely with minced pies and tea and coffee. Compliments to the chef and once again well done to Ruth, Darren, Lynn and all the staff who made it such a pleasant experience

Took family to the Fleur fo dinner. Hadn't been for a while and was a little dubious as the last time we went we had pies which came out burnt with not a lot of filling.I needn't have worried, staff was really friendly and the girl who served us was lovely and always had a smile on her face. The tell tale indication that things were going to be good was the fact it was packed, always a good sign! We ordered fillet steak and I asked for mine with mash instead of chips, not a problem. Next a rump steak with an addition to the order of a fried egg. Sausage and mash and lamb shank. All came out beautifully cooked and very well presented. The food was delicious. A nice selection of wines added to the lovely evening we had. The manager was away but the staff did them proud despite their absence and with the pub fully booked with people also standing at the bar, they did amazingly well. Our family who was visiting thoroughly enjoyed themselves so thank you for a lovely evening. We will be back to sample other tempting offers on the menu.

East Hagbourne is a beautiful village in South Oxfordshire, and we've been meaning to go to the Fleur de Lys for a while. My partner had a pie and I had scampi and chips. It did the job on a rainy day but was pretty average, particularly as you're paying Oxfordshire prices (around a tenner a meal). There are plenty of brilliant pubs in the area and this lacks in comparison, we won't be going again unfortunately.

In all the years that I having been to public houses I have never been offered parts of the beer pump in my pint.I appreciate that accidents do happen, but if I had drunk my pint containing a piece off the pump I might have come off worse. It was a dark beer so the black object was not seen until the object could be seen sitting in the bottom of the glass.Choking would have been a strong possibility and a trip to the local A and E needed.Anyway the bar staff were highly appreciative that the pump piece had been located and their worries were over, over but neither seemed concerned in the least or offered the slightest apology .I think perhaps a good idea would be to check out all the equipment in other areas might be a good idea.Or perhaps I should inform the Oxon Health and Safety people about the incident ?Having said all the above the pub is still probably the best in Didcot IMO and surrounding area for drinkers, and the and customers all very friendly and hopefully my experience will not put others off .

We visited after seeing several good reviews of Sunday lunch. The pub is considerably better than it used to be. Service is friendly enough and I always like a sociable pub dog or two. Our roasts were tasty enough, but sadly did not live up to the hype. The cheese in the cauliflower cheese had separated/curdled and left a bit of a sour taste. Red cabbage was a nice addition. I do like the fact the roast comes with Yorkshire pudding and stuffing as standard (irrespective of which meats). Ours were both very dry though, despite plenty of gravy. Overall it wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything to get excited about either.

Had a lovely meal here on Saturday night, we booked a table, but looks like there were a couple of spares. Good traditional menu, at reasonable prices. There had been a specials board on our last visit in the summer but this was not avail tonight, which was a shame. Friendly atmosphere and service,Moo Pies were delicious, but the onion gravy was a little lacking in flavour. Vine tomatoes came with a couple of dishes, but they were a tad undercooked so if you are going to serve them they need to be perfect. Nacho chili starter was a hit with the whole group. Good to see a roaring log fire, dogs and children welcome, along with a friendly welcome and quick service, will be back soon to try some of the other dishes on offer.

Went for dinner on the 18th December, the quality of the food was terrible. The main courses we ordered .... The ham egg and chips... overcooked eggs, they were rubber, they are meant to be runny! very few chips on the plate, and the ham was sparse. They, for some reason, want to put a bunch of cherry tomatoes on each plate, they are burn't. They really should stop this whole cherry tomatoes thing! It does not work! We also ordered the special game caserole....it was disgusting, no other word for it. We live in the village and go in to the flour de lys occasionally for food. We always hope they will improve the quality of food, but every time we are disappointed. In order to get the villagers back into the pub they need to sack the chef. It changed hands and we thought it would improve, the front of house service has, but the food is still terrible. There are so many better pubs in the local villages around, I would recommend to stay clear of eating here!

It was our first visit to the Fluer and we were left really disappointed. We ordered five meals of which three had to be returned because they were cold - one of them wasn't even properly cooked and was raw in the centre. There was a long delay to get our meals returned by which time the others in our party had finished theirs. We ordered dessert which took just under an hour to arrive and when they did one was missing. This took another ten minutes by which time the others had finished. It was such a shame, as the pub has a lovely atmosphere but our visit was let down by the quality of the food and service.

Warm welcome from staff, quick service and orders taken by the friendly, helpful barman. Team work works at this pub, staff helping each other out. We ordered a shared pate as one of the starters and this was produced with extra toasted cheesy bread which was a great accompaniment. Rib eye steaks, locally supplied by the butcher, all four cooked to our liking. One mouthful, that's all it took and wow, tastebuds tingling! Compliments to the chef, very succulent steaks. No room for puddings, wish we did as all looked good on the menu. Boys enjoyed their beer - bonus! So in conclusion, book to avoid disappointment and go and enjoy locally produced, tasty food!

I visited this pub for my birthday with my husband last Friday, we ordered our meal at 8.30pm and were waiting for our food for 1 hour and a half. That's unacceptable in my view, the pub was busy, however If the staff can't cope with that many guests then they shouldn't book so many tables. When the food finally arrived, it was poor quality, on menu it stated salad with my chicken burger but it was just ordinary lettuce from a bag, no tomatoes or cucumber, the chicken didn't taste fresh, and chips were ok only just about five of them. They haven't offered any discount, all in all very bad experience and I am not coming back, also will warn my friends, it's a shame that what used to be nice country pub with lovely food, has become just a pub with no care for the customers.

I visited this pub with my husband, daughter and grandaughter last weekend just for a lunch time sandwich and a drink. Its the only pub left in the village and as such I wonder if it doesnt feel good customer service is required. We ordered drinks (the beer is well kept) and both my husband and daughter a BLT sandwich. I asked if that instead of a BLT I could omit the lettuce and tomato but add an egg, which was fine. The sandwiches arrived, medium thick standard loaf bread (nothing special) at a cost of £6 each (no crisps or chips) and were actually really tasty and enjoyable. Paid the (unitemised) bill on leaving and thought it seemed just a bit more than id expected. Assumed maybe we had been wrongly overcharged for one of the drinks or charged for 4 instead of 3 or something so spent 2 mins emailing the pub just asking for the breakdown. It emerged that I had been charged a whopping £8.00 for my bacon and egg sandwich!! I emailed back that that was one very expensive £2 egg! The attitude of the owner was it was the managements decision that day and I should have been told id be charged £2 extra but that she was "happy to refund me £2!!! ..........I declined her very generous offer and simply wont return or recommend to anyone.

Really disappointed with the Fleur. Went there to have a pre ordered Christmas Menu. Did not get off to a good start as table was just decorated with crackers which did not even match. Could have made more of an effort as it was a pre-booked Christmas menu which would imply we were going there for a celebration! This could have been forgiven if the food was good but it quite simply was the worst meal I have ever been given eating out at a pub. The turkey roast dinner had soggy roast potatoes and the whole meal tasted liked a roast which had been warmed up in a microwave, no bread sauce and a small dessert spoon of cranberry sauce dumped on the turkey (you normally expect a separate dish of cranberry sauce that you help yourself too). There wasn't that much of it either. Then they served up something which was suppose to be Christmas pudding. It was a slice of something bread like with currants in with a bit of custard on it. Did not eat it as it was so disgusting and they did not even bother offering you cream or brandy butter with the Christmas pudding. Then there were the mince pies, not even warmed up and with the tiniest bit of mincemeat filling. The only thing which was ok was the coffee! Come on the Fleur you can do better than this! It felt like the whole meal was done on a shoestring yet you charged £20.00 for it! Really use to love the fact we had a nice little pub in the village that served nice food. The meal I was looking forward to ruined what should have been a lovely early Christmas lunch out as a treat. Please do something to improve. I cook a nicer meal. You really need a new chef if this is what they serve. Your competition in other nearby villagers are charging £24.95 for three courses of a superb Christmas menu. Please up your game! If gives the impression that you don't care that you serve such rubbish food or you don't bother decorating the table - just that you happily take money for rubbish food! Surely you must look at that dinner and Christmas pudding and be ashamed!

We held my Grandad's wake here as it was his local for many years, and had already paid them a substantial amount of money for beige food with little or no taste. My daughter (my granddads great granddaughter) who is 2 years old, joined us at this time and we asked the staff if they could rustle up a quick beans on toast for her...the chef was in at this point....so we could stay and remember my gramps a bit longer without the need to go home. They point blank refused. I can not understand how a pub that has taken a lot of money during a time which they wouldn't have taken any (it was before opening time), during a WAKE couldn't take 2 minutes of their time to make beans on toast. Utterly disgusted and will NEVER give them the time of day again. A soulless business, and I can safely say they made what was already a very sad day even worse through their ridiculous actions. I know plenty of pubs who would have happily done this for us under the circumstances and will use them in future for any other family functions. DO NOT use this place for anything of meaning as they will disappoint.

Seemed a great meeting point for a family get together at lunch time, had no idea what to expect as been many years since last visit. Was more than pleasantly surprised, the hospitality was welcoming, and helpful, (we had one guest in a wheelchair) Nothing a trouble, all drinks bought to the table, and they checked we were ok in a none obtrusive manner throughout. The meal was second to none, we largely had pies, fish and chips, and a curry, however there were specials on the board had we decided to be more adventurous, maybe next time! Good selection of guest ales kept perfectly, (so I'm assured by my uncle) Fantastic friendly, co-operative staff, beautiful layout, we were on an oval table, which was perfect for our table of 6. I went along to this cosy little pub with high hopes and a deep hunger. I was not completely disappointed. But and its a small but. There was a something just slightly off. The steak was excellent, the Moo pie was good not perfect, a little more seasoning in the gravy would have just about given the pie dish a 4 star rating. The service was fairly efficient and quick. But, Here it comes, But. They were good, quick, but weren't as well trained as could be. They dallied behind the bar a bit. Didn't know their own menu or Beer selection. But that's the only down point to an otherwise very good dinning experience.
