We called in here on the last day of our holiday - such a shame we hadn't found it earlier in our stay. My sister and myself had the tomato and basil soup which was delicious. My husband had the open toasted steak and mushroom sandwich - excellent! We were served by a lovely girl called Finlay - she couldn't have been more helpful. Well worth a visit.

Visited the Fisherman's Arms for dinner as a group of six during a weekend trip with some friends. The evening as whole was, as the title suggests, was a mixture of ups and downs. As we entered the pub, it looked busy and exactly as you'd picture the village local. We were seated promptly and given menus. Our waitress asked us for our drinks order, however, when questioned on what ales and beers were on tap she didn't know and had to find out. That was ok, but unfortunately it was a sign of things to come. She returned without a wine list, as requested by other members of our group and informed us that there was only 3 beers on tap, which was a bit disappointing. Nonetheless, wine and house ales were ordered as well as our food. After roughly 10 minutes, our waitress returned to inform those of us who ordered the ale that it wasn't ready and we had to choose something else. This was really disappointing as an already small list of beers and ales had just gotten smaller, with the other two not being overly appealing. Anyway, with the drinks orders finally out of the way, we waited for our food. The wait wasn't too long and what came to the table looked really good. However, once again there was a problem, one of the side orders had been forgotten and we had to eventually ask for the waitress to bring it out. Once we began to eat a silence came over the table, which was an indication of the quality of food. I had ordered the fish and chips, which were delicious. The fish was beautifully battered and fell apart when you cut into it. The only down side were the mushy peas that accompanied the dish. It was more like a pea soup, as the peas were extremely runny and not at all mushy. Everyone else seemed more than satisfied with their food and the consensus all round was to give it the thumbs up. It's a shame to give this place 3/5 as it could have been much better and I suspect we turned up when they were having an off day, but the little things add up and unfortunately it didn't make for a great evening.

Thankfully, when I say consistent, I mean consistently good. Not pretentious, not glamorous, but really good local ingredients, lovingly prepared, and delivered in good time. We have been here several times, and have never had a bad experience. It has always been a go to place when friends visit from England. I put visited in November 2017, but it was earlier than that. TA won't let me date it before that. If you want good food, good value, and a cosy environment, give yourself a treat and pop in.

We were staying at a nearby Airbnb and this place was recommended by our landlord. We prebooked which was almost a necessity, were well received and had a delightful meal. So good in fact we went back. A huge hit for me was the turnip honey soup, which I had only because I had never heard of such a combination before and it was delicious. That alone did it for me in giving this place top marks. I know we also had fish and chips on one occasion at this place, and the fish hung off each end of the plate. Our second visit we were greeted like known friends and although I cannot remember what we ate the food again was first class. The servers were especially attentive and friendly.

I had lamb rump - very tasty indeed, beautifully cooked and served. We had a choice of vegetables, also cooked to perfection and nicely presented.. As a special occasion we wanted to be sure of quality and service and knowing Scott and Lyndsey from the Border Hotel we knew exactly what to expect from the Fisherman's Arms. Needless to say we were not disappointed. I had the smoked salmon trio starter which was delicious. Salmon with beetroot, capers and stuffed olives and ice cream, yes Ice cream! Scott knows a thing or two about flavour combinations and it was spot on. My wife had the mushroom and filo pastry starter which she loved. We both had steak mains, done to perfection. Presentation is top notch and attention paid to every detail, as it is with the great service from well trained knowledgeable staff in Carrie Ann and Tommy. We popped in for a family meal after driving eight hours from Hereford. The food and staff were brilliant. It was quite busy, so the sweet potato fries, chutney, olives and jalapeño peppers were a nice touch while waiting, our 12 year old daughter had to pop to the toilet to make sure she hadn't turned red after trying her first jalapeño!The food was stunning, I had the haggis starter as a main that was more than filling enough, and the children's meals were huge. Plus it is obvious that everything is cooked from scratch. We paid just over £50 for all four of us to eat and drink, which we feel was very cheap considering the quality of the food.

The salmon and cheese starters were also nicely laid out and the verdict was that they lived up to that in taste too.Mains of Lamb and 2 vegetarian options were also well received with good quantities again well presented. Desserts for those who could manage them were up to the same standard. The service was pitched perfectly being attentive and friendly, also catering for some variations such as sharing a starter and dessert with ease. This pub / restaurant is a little gem and the new management seem to have created one of the best places to eat around this part of the Borders at good value prices. Ok its a little expensive but you get what you pay for these days. We have learned that after the festivities it will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. No custom....no Pub..be warned.

Average meal, visited earlier in the year and was not as good this visit. Service was efficient. Although there is a nice fire in the bar area the restaurant area was very cold, on both my visits.

Disappointing. Menu was limited and can be best described as expensive pub grub. Would not visit again. If you liked chips with everything, you may be okay. Having looked at reviews, I was expecting so much more. I went for a Caeser salad, chicken goujons and croutons, which was alright but very overpriced. If you are looking for something more than pub grub, look elsewhere.

We were on a last minute break to Coldstream and came across what turned out to be an absolutely brilliant find! The service first and foremost was courteous, welcoming and with a friendly sense of humour.... The food was fantastic, incredible value for money and the wine was perfectly suited. 3 courses, the best wine, 2 gins, beer and whisky all for £66. We felt like we'd robbed them! Thanks for such a great night x

It's a community run pub which means the staffing is light and therefore the service is slower than you may expect but as long as you accept this and support them with this then this is a great place to eat. The food was really tasty - a decent enough menu and good beer on tap. We passed through while cycling so were in no rush but thankfully our landlady (a few doors along) booked ahead for us to ensure a table (again based on the fact that they are light on staff). The staff were very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommended.

The staff here are very friendly and welcoming. The food is exceptional. The only niggle we had was that the menu didn't change on the two nights we went for a meal. It was only things on the specials board and it hadn't changed. We also had a sunday roast on this was fabulous.

Only downside was only one person running the bar and waitressing , poor lass was rushed off her feet, although she done a brilliant job ,They could do with someone else helping behind bar and taking food orders , the pub is a very nice and cosy place and the food was well worth the wait , best steak ive had for a while we were both very happy with our food it was spot on. Will defo be back

Local to us, we love having the Fishermans Arms so close, a great place to eat, lovely staff and a nice atmosphere. Imaginative menu, well executed. I would highly recommend for a treat, or just a casual meal out.

Recently taken here by friends for Sunday dinner. Great welcome and attentive staff. The food was really delicious and well presented and beats many a city restaurant. The vegetables were cooked to perfection and served separately, piping hot, as was the main course. A very good dinner in an excellent location.

Whilst on holiday we were out and about exploring, on our way back to our cottage in St Abbs we wanted a decent meal.We stumbled on this pub and were glad we did, I had the fish and chips, really lovely. Husband had a ploughman's which was great value for money and very tasty and plentiful.Drinks were fairly priced compared to other places we had been to, the pub was quiet and service was good.We would certainly visit again if/when in the area

The Fisherman's Arms in Birgham, looks like a normal run of the mill pub on the outside however the atmosphere and food on the inside was astonishing. When we arrived and walked in we found a pub with modern decor and a well stocked bar with a wide range of wines to choose from. The Lady who greeted us was very friendly and jovial and pointed out the various specials that were available. The menu items ranged from seafood which the pub specializes in to more standard fayre like burgers. I opted for chicken breasted stuffed with Chorizio, which had a creamy sauce and was accompanied by potatoes and steamed vegetables all cooked to perfection. My daughter opted for the burger with chips and also came with 2 large onion rings which she said was brilliant, the people we were with ordered the chicken marinated with soy sauce accompanied with rice which they enjoyed and said the chose it was a heathly option. All the food obviously prepared to order on site was extremely well presented and delicious. I couldn't believe that a pub in such a rural location has such a daring menu and a chef who was turning out top quality food. If you are ever in this part of Scotland give it a try, you will be delighted and surprised. Puts most restaurants with Michelin stars to shame and was very reasonably priced.

After a visit to Berwick upon Tweed for the weekend, myself and friends were looking for a lovely Sunday lunch on our way home and we certainly got it here. We just spotted it and thought we would give it a try. It is the best Sunday lunch I have had for a long long time. Its a lovely pub, and very clean. We went in (Sunday 26th June 2016) we didn't get the name of the young girl who served us and seemed to be running the place but she was absolutely lovely, so efficient, helpful and so nice. She was a credit to the pub The homemade vegetable broth was fantastic and definitely home made. I had the roast lamb as did my husband, my friend had the roast beef. The meat was cooked to perfection all served with roast potatoes, a huge bowl of various veg and a jug of extra gravy. All was gorgeous. The other starters etc were also lovely. I was absolutely stuffed but just had to try the homemade rice pudding with blueberries which was absolutely gorgeous. Credit to the chef as nothing could be faulted with our meal .I would imagine the food here is always great but oh my gosh if you do want a proper Sunday lunch this is definitely the place to go. We will certainly go back next time we are in the area. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Late lunch in midweek and delighted to find the Fishermans Arms. Car park for off street parking, a warm welcome, lovely and clean premises, nicely laid out and with dining area seperate to the bar. Beer garden is a great place too if weather permits with a couple of different seating areas to enjoy either on lawn or the terrace at he rear of the pub.Decent menu plus specials board with some really tempting choices, but also serve just sandwiches (with soup or add chips too..) and omlettes too with a good choice of fillings if not wanting a full meal. The service was spot on, starter presented fresh and tasty and the mains - excellent! So flavoursome and beautifully flavoured, nothing to fault. Dessert - superb too.Do visit when in the Borders. Decent choice of beers, great cooking, very good value for money and as the pub is community owned, it's adding to the facilites in the village to stop in and enjoy the place.

Just back from a lovely meal in The Fishermans Arms. If you are driving through Birgham in the beautiful Scottish Borders then stop and go in, you will not be disappointed. The food is fantastic and the staff great. Compliments to the chef. I am a fussy eater and he did exactly as I requested and cooked to my satisfaction, not many can do that. We were served by "Heather", lovely girl always smiling and stopped for a chat. The menu is extensive but after having me in I guess the chef would aim to please, no matter what. They also have a childrens menu. You can sit in and enjoy the restaurant with soft easy to listen to music in the background or you can sit outside in the garden. We will certainly be back again....and again.....and again....

We stayed a couple of nights in the area and found this place on line . It doesn't look particularly special from the outside but please continue in! The service was lovely and the food we ordered exceptional for starters we ordered haggis Bon Bon which was amazing I had a Salmon filo pastry starter lovely for main course I chose peppered tuna steak and Asked for it to be 'seared' rather than cooked .. It was served to perfection exactly how I like it raw in the middle my partner had a rare flat iron steak cooked equally as well and for pudding a chocolate cheesecake mmmm... if you're in the area it's not to be missed !
