The Fish Shack in Shepway

O.M.G!!!!! This was the BEST lunch I've had in ages!! And I travel the world, hanging out in fancy hotels, cos that's my job :) Went here with a friend and 3 kids, 1 on a strict medical keto diet which the staff also helped me cater for!! I had scallops, scallops, more scallops, a couple of cheeky oysters on the side, and a bit of slaw and salad to balance it out. Super fresh, all of it, and the staff are so cheery and friendly.

Our 3rd visit, and not our last! As ever, it was busy but there again, it was Easter Monday. The shack is on the main road through Dungeness, just past Prospect Cottage and on the way to the power station. Plenty of parking on the road and with a small car park just ahead. The fish is fresh that day, served with delicious fried potatoes. It is excellent, and quite the eating experience to sit there in such an unusual environment. Plenty of walks along the shore or down to the miniature railway station. Finish off with an ice cream and don’t forget there is plenty of fresh fish also available to take home.

We came here for lunch after getting the train from Hythe and we were thrilled with the quality of the food. Really good, fresh fish and crispy fried potatoes! Able to cater to gluten-free too (though not coeliac), and very friendly and helpful staff!

Great local fish fished off Dungerness could not be more local or sustainable! Love the addition of the fish shop next door if you want to buy from the local fisherman and cut out the middle man in the supply chain this is the place to go! Food is also great I had the fisherman’s roll which was delicious along with a side of potatoes that were amazing!

We happened to visit Dungeness on a gorgeous sunny day. Sitting outside at the Snack Shack with a lobster roll and fish and fried potatoes - simple but special. Will remember this day for a long time because of the excellent food, great weather and unique setting.

This place is a diamond find, a fish shack that delivered more than expected. Rustic but perfect, the food was amazing, from the lobster roll, scallop flat bread, fried potatoes and service. I would recommend dropping in, we will definitely be back. Simply amazing.

We loved our visit to the snack shack the lobster flat bread was amazing along with the fish and mini roast potatoes with scallops was to actually die for. The young staff were ever so helpful and friendly. It’s a shame we left it so long and will definitely be back. Good job guys and girls.

A Great place for a pit stop walking between Romney Sands Station and Dungeness Station. Fresh seafood , snacks and drinks even local icecream. Terrific service with a smile. Benches on the stones.

A cafe in a shipping container with tables in front of it and Dungerness as a backdrop is a pretty unusual setting and not to everyone’s taste. The food here though appeals to many people and is worth the drive. When we visited, the crab, oysters and rolls had disappointingly run out but we still enjoyed fish of the day - plaice, really tasty on home made flatbread with salad. Shelled prawns were incredible, large, firm and tasty. Everything is cooked to order so obviously there’s a wait and the wind is pretty constant so coats are needed, Really worth a visit though.

I’ve visited several times and always had a good meal. Nice to see that the seating area has expanded recently too. The scallops were in season and were incredible and the crab taco always hits the spot, a bit more crab would be great! The potatoes and tomatoes as always were excellent, always worth getting done to share.I can’t wait to see what they have on the menu next visit.If I had one suggestion - please update Facebook more often with when you are open and the days menu, I suspect I’d be there even more often!

There aren't many places to eat in Dungeness, but the Snack Shack seems to be well liked. It's a nice place to grab a bite. I found the Snack Shack by smell. There's a bit of a wait, but it's worth it. Great food on the beach.

Kelly and her crew have a little gem tucked away in Dungeness, it's the best kept secret on the south coast, fresh fish served on your plate direct from the sea, try the Crab Flatbread or the 1st class scallops that will blow you away, sitting on the beach with a glass of chilled vino - I guaranteed you will not be disappointed

If you like to know where the food you are eating has come from then look no further. Enjoyed a delicious Fisherman’s roll here after it was recommended by friends. The homemade tartare sauce to go with it is very creamy and yummy. Check their opening times and also they may not be open if bad weather. We got a take away then drove to the RHDR railway car park by Dungeness to be able to open our car doors and chat to friends. Many people park nearby and eat in their cars . Looking forward to when we move into tier 2/1 so we can sit on their tables by the shack on the beach. Wear warm clothes for this time of year and if you are not familiar with this part of Kent let me tell you the wind can blow hard here! Friendly staff who all work very hard to deliver high quality food. Be prepared to wait during busy times but be patient, it is worth it.

Went today at half term from the railway. Three children and my wife soaked to the absolute skin . Standing in the pouring rain completely ignored by the surly staff who didn’t even look up to tell us the lobster was out of season. Walked away. Never ever be back.

Hangry hubby enjoyed his fish roll and I loved my fried potatoes (which were definitely not chips!) It had just come out fine so we were able to enjoy our lunch at one of the picnic tables outside. Great place for lunch or a snack

We were lucky enough to enjoy the Fish Hut having waited several days for the weather to improve. Unfortunately they are unable to open during the ‘wild’ wet and windy conditions which can occur in Dungeness. I enjoyed fresh crab with coleslaw, avocado and chillies served on a wrap together with delicious deep fried mini potatoes in their skins with sea salt. This is an exceptional fish ‘restaurant’ in a truly unique place.

What a gem of a find! We had just walked along Dungeness beach and were heading back to the car when we noticed this little beach hut with tables and people queuing. We decided to stop for a hot drink but as soon as we saw the menu, we wanted to try the food! I had the fisherman's roll and my partner had the fish fillet and fried potatoes. Service was friendly and quick. Food was amazing and so much more fun eaten outdoors like a picnic but with hot food cooked well by someone else! It was delicious and the atmosphere added to the great experience so much that I am definitely visiting again!

A local taxi driver told us to visit, so one Sunday we took a fold up table and chairs and headed here for lunch. Whilst the lobster taco was not cheap it was amazing and the fresh fish roll and potatoes great. We don’t often visit as we are not locals but we will be back again as it really was amazing food.

There's not much more I can say about this place that hasn't already been said. This is the place I head to for brunch when I'm staying on Dungeness. My meal of choice is always the catch of the day tacos. You never know what kind of fish is going to be on it until you order which adds to the fun. They taste so damn good, the nicest tacos I've ever had. Mexican delight on a Dungeness beach.

Some friends and I were at Dungeness and nearly drove past!! Fortunately the picnic tables gave it away ... What a find! Fabulous fish of the day fillets with fried potatoes was our choice. A strange shipping container in tye middle of no where selling tresh local fish and great street food from the snack shack. I had the fishermans roll with fried potatoes. Absolutely delicious!

We visited only the fresh fish side of the shack, despite Covid and being indoors the girl serving didn't wear a mask. She boasted how if someone asks for dressed crab, she googles how to do that, and generally didn't instill any confidence. So we bought whole fish that didn't need her to prepare, freshly caught by their boats, really great prices, £14 for a whole lobster, £5 for a huge pot of full sized crab claws, really was the best fish, and worth the trip.

Delicious fresh fish - the catch of the day - 2 filets of plaice with salad for a fiver - bargain. Quirky venue and very popular. Despite stickers showing cards accepted was repeatedly told that “i prefer cash” in that case don’t advertise you take cards. The card was eventually accepted. Wonder why cash is preferred????

This is the second time we have visited and it did not disappoint. The staff are so friendly. The food is beyond awesome. We had the Fisherman’s Rolls, Crab Taco, Fish Tacos. All cooked to perfect. Great selection of ice cream and drinks. Can’t wait to return again. Great value too.

We visited here today, we had no plans to but it just happened. From the outside it is a converted container, but this place is perfect. Located on the shingle beach and you can’t beat it on a fine day. My partner had crab taco I had grilled fish with fried potatoes, both of our meals were freshly cooked and absolutely superb, additionally great value for money.

Wonderful lobster taco with potatoes. All the staff are very friendly and despite masses of people today none of them got flustered. Take your own chairs or picnic blanket as it does get very crowded. Looking forward to going back next week. The added bonus is that there is a wet fish shop as well.

Menu does say ‘limited’ due to staff numbers but there was plenty to choose from IMO!Totally authentic experience sitting on pub style benches on the shingle in the unique and rather eerie Dungeness with its new/ old fishing boats, sea kale and lighthouses. Excellent value and so pleased we googled in advance. Cabin next to this fish shack where they are preparing freshly caught fish made our lunch only more authentic.

As soon as we moved to Rye for the summer, we were told that this was the best place to get fresh seafood; they were right!On our first visit, we arrived after lunchtime, but the delightful Kelly made 3 amazing fresh crab sandwiches, so fresh you could smell and taste the ocean. We have been back a number of times to get the most delicious fish and crab in the country! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

We visited on a blustery March day and were warmly greeted by the cheery friendly staff. Although it was quite busy we didn’t have to wait long and were soon tucking into delicious fish flatbreads, the best lunch I’ve had in a long time! You MUST visit if you’re in Dungeness.

By the time we arrived here from our journey we were starving, the four of us plus dog enjoyed delicious fish of the day and fresh salad. This place seemed to be always full with a constant flow of people coming and looking for seating. There’s nothing more pleasing than eating fishy lunch outside and we could walk the dog while waiting. Everything is freshly cooked and there’s plenty of seating. Look forward to coming here again to have lunch.

Visited on a Thursday lunchtime in September - packed to the rafters! Clearly very popular. Food was delicious, fresh off the boat. Good facilities for washing hands (individual towels, etc). On the pricier side for food but completely worth it.

Dungeness is weirdly beautiful - a large, scrubby expanse in the shadow of a disused power station. For a stranger to the area you drive down a long road before turning towards the beach. Another road stretch towards the lighthouse and you wonder if you’ll find the place. Don’t worry. Look for the cluster of cars parked alongside what looks like an old fishing container. The day we went was in the summer holidays and beautifully sunny. There must have been about 20 cars.You place your order and get your number and then when it’s your turn you can sit at the picnic tables or take away and tuck into the fantastic food they prepare right there. We had lobster sandwiches and chips. Delicious!I’d definitely go again - for the food, the views, the vibe.
