Excellent meal today, well presented and cooked as requested. Pleasant helpful staff. spacious modern bar restaurant area.

I came here with my family and friend. The food was amazing and so many choices to pick from on the menu including their own gluten free menu and vegan menu so that everyone is included in their freshly made produce. We had their freshly made garlic cheesy bread, a crispy chicken burger and their chocolate brownie. The portion sizes are very generous and definitely got our moneys worth. We cannot wait to come back in the summer to their relaxing pub. To experience their welcoming service and a pint in the garden.

We gathered for an evening meal, 6 in the party. All the staff couldn't do enough for, very attentive. The food was excellent. Everybody's needs were catered for. Thank you for making us so welcome .

We were a large group of 40+. The staff were excellent, very polite and friendly. We had preordered, but wanted to be fed as one group, food was served very quick, very hot and tasted lovely. No complaints from anyone, all will or have recommended to friends and family. Many were first time visitors but plan to return. Any last minute changes were made with no complaints from the pub. Very accommodating staff and owners.

I went in for a quick bit of lunch with my father. I had 3 of the vegan options. Sun dried tomato Mac n Cheese, Beer battered onion rings, and Garlic mushroom toast. The onion rings were super crisp and well seasoned and the mac n cheese was the best vegan mac n cheese I’ve had. Everything was piping hot and tasted amazing. Portions were good and everything was well priced.

Incredible, the food here is exceptional and good value. I had 3 courses and devoured them all! Set in a lovely inviting environment, made to feel really welcome. Great choice of drinks too

Last three visits to the Fighting Cocks have left me with a sense of bewilderment. What has happened here? What was once a decent place to eat is now no longer on my list of place to go (and in Gosport that doesn’t leave me much) Food is mostly deep fried and very salty and yet price remains high. Staff seemed disinterested in whether we liked what we were being served (it’s as if they already know that what this place now serves is below previous standards). The place really lacks any sense of direction and is disjointed (lots of “staff” operating behind the bar and have access to kitchen but I am not sure they all work there??) There are many other points I can make here but don’t want to name individuals or appear too harsh but this place has slipped under the current regime and I for one will not eat here again.

We visited yesterday for Sunday lunch, we were greeted by friendly and helpful staff and having had a drink first we were shown to our table. Ordering was quick and the food arrived quickly too. We ordered 2 roast pork, 1 lamb shank, one vegetarian meal and 1 pork and chorizo meatball tagliatelle. We all agree the food was gorgeous. The honeycomb cheesecake was divine. The staff were fantastic and the place has a great atmosphere.

An unprepossesing establishment from the outside. Warm and friendly indoors. Best fish and chips I've had in a long while. Can't recommend it enough.

Once again can't say enough about the food and service at The Fighting Cocks. The evening was enjoyable from start to finish, with the additional bonus of some Shanty singing. If you're looking for good food good service and good company you will not go wrong. Looking forward to new winter and Christmas menus.

Met a couple of old friends here on a recommendation for Sunday dinner. It did not disappoint at all. Made to feel welcome the moment we stepped in the door. We hadn’t booked ahead but were given a table in the restaurant area. The food was great. I had the topside beef. Everything cooked to perfection. My wife had the lamb and said it was great. We sat there for 5 hours drinking and eating. The staff were attentive and polite. I thought the bill was very reasonable and would recommend this place to everyone. Shane we are only visiting Gosport for a short time.

Cold roast dinner, poor quantities, over cooked veg, only two roast potatoes, lumpy gravy, very disappointed as had hear such good things about the food here but obviously things have changed. Will not go back again.

We went here yesterday to celebrate our granddaughter’s birthday. We have eaten here a few times before and always found the food and service good. However, this time we were left very disappointed. The food was clearly microwaved, the hunters chicken was very dry and chewy. The chicken wings were undercooked with slimy skin. There was no table service, no check backs on the food and no table clearing until we decided to do it ourselves! Found it to be a complete letdown, we spent a lot of money there and were left disappointed. We won’t be returning any time soon!

Taken by my children for fathers day I had slow cooked roast beef dinner the beef was chewy with big lumps of fat when I do slow cooked beef it falls apart this definitely did not the roast potatoes were greasy the carrots hard the table we sat at was sticky so had to put serviettes on it for nearly £14 would expect a lot better will not be returning

What a hidden jem this place is..from the moment we stepped in the door we were made welcomed .the food was terrific.the service was excellent.the landlord was just like his staff brilliant.we were a only staying in the area for 2 nights and of course we went back the following night . again the staff and landlord made us feel like locals.and the food was excellent.we have family live nearby so we will be back .

Brought my gluten free friend for a birthday lunch end of January. It's worth the 10 mile journey for her as she loves the fish and chips! I was spoiled with the special of haggis leftovers served with bacon and cheese in a huge baked potato. Absolutely delicious!

Haven't left many reviews lately but thought I had to mention The Fighting Cocks tonight. Baz and the team certainly pulled out all the stops to make it a night to remember. The food was delicious Sav Mat and the team in the kitchen done themselves proud. Bayley and Kat the front of house team made everyone welcome and made sure nobody was waiting for anything . This isn't the first time we've been here and know when ever we visit either on our own or with friends and family we are in for a good time.

I was looking for the best place in the Gosport area to have Sunday lunch. Although the Fighting Cocks looks like a small local pub it is surprisingly spacious inside. There was a good selection of Roasts available, Lamb shank, Pork, Beef and Gammon. We ordered the gammon. The service was excellent and despite it being busy the food arrived quickly and it was delicious, fantastic roast potatoes, lots of meat and a wide selection of very tasty veg. It was just a shame that it was slightly let down by not being hot enough.

First time of eating here and it with not be the last one. Such a welcome on entering the premises made feel welcome went straight to table, allowed to settle in menu’s given and drinks ordered and served quickly , so we could browse menu. Menu straight forward and catered for all included Gluten free menu. Had Prawns and Chorizo starter, followed by Pulled Brisket, mash etc. this is a menu not for faint hearted large portions and very tasty followed by Dessert of Blackcurrant Sorbet ( 3 scoops) wife had Goats cheese starter followed by Chilli Con Carne again large portions followed by Cheesecake Dessert. A very filling meal did not leave much room for anything else . Waiting staff even though they were not standing around as they had a function on, we were not left waiting they were polite, attentive and you felt looked after by one of them. Surprisingly the bill for the food and drink was modest price for the standard of the food , tasty , hot and prompt.

We had a wonderful family gathering at The Fighting Cocks in Gosport today. The food was very good with large portions. The attentive staff Tracy and Isla were amazing. They looked after us and made sure everything arrived at the same time which is important when in a group. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Popped into the Fighting cocks for lunch and was warmly greeted by the lovely Tracey. We were seated quickly at a nice table and shown all the options available for lunch. Food arrived quickly and we were really impressed by the potion size and how tasty it was for such a good price point, the food was really good quality. Tracey was so attentive to everyone in the pub and is a real asset to your business! Well done Fighting Cocks, we will defiantly be back.

My youngest treated me to lunch (Wed 16th) and I have to say we were welcomed like royalty; huge portions and food very tasty. It's a cosy pub and very friendly too. Although we didn't have any dogs with us, it was lovely to a young Spaniel running around keeping us all entertained.

We had a Chorizo Scotch Egg which was runny inside and gorgeous and the Goat's Cheese Croquettes followed by Chicken Jalfrezi and Brisket with Mustard mash. Absolutely divine! The chef's deserve this credit because we enjoyed every mouthful.

Came for a team lunch last Wednesday, first visit, but def won’t be the last. The whole place was spotless, full SD measures in place, food was excellent, beer (Wadworths 6X) was superb, and the service was faultless. Thank you very much, would recommend highly.

Visited post Lockdown and was a little apprehensive due to the current Covid situation. On arrival we had to leave our details and sanitise. Sat outside and had table service throughout our visit. The staff were very attentive and the owner was super hot on cleaning the tables and chairs before and after use. The food was lovely and came out hot and delicious. The attention to detail regarding cleaning and sanitising made it feel like a very safe place to be. Thank you to everyone for making it such a pleasant visit. Been to this restaurant many times the food is always of the same excellent Quality served reasonably quickly,for a pub diner the menu is really good and reasonably priced ,also great plaice for families,the children’s area is quite impressive

Visited just before Christmas food was Ok nothing special for the price. Staff were frightened to come out from behind the bar had to chase them up for extra drinks, condiments and the bill. We weren’t asked how meal was and were left with dirty plates in front of us for ages.

We cycled to The Fighting Cocks this afternoon in the hopes of finding a decent Sunday roast and we were very impressed.I ordered a standard pork roast and my husband ordered The Big One. Great portion sizes, tonnes of vegetables and roast potatoes.Wonderful service, smiley staff and very amenable (allowing us to chain our bikes in the large beer garden, rather than out on the street).

Love this place it’s awesome. Ate from the specials board last night. Prawn and chilli pasta in a tomato sauce. Arrived nice and hot band full of flavour. No room for pudding.

We visited the pub for an early evening meal. The service was excellent and the choice of meals was very good, especially vegetarian and vegan dishes. The food was absolutely delicious and thoroughly enjoyed by all. We would definitely recommend this pub and look forward to visiting them again.

Never judge a book by its cover - from the outside this appears to be nothing special.However, as soon as you walk through the door you enter a really friendly and welcoming place. Staff friendly, cheerful and helpful.Food was really good, with lots of choice and a range of prices. The liver and bacon was amazingly presented and very tasty, as were all the other dishes. Although I didnt have it the cinnamon doughnuts with ice cream was brilliant. Although cheese and biscuits were not on the menu I was presented with a fabulous choice of cheeses.Really please to have discovered this gem and will definately be back.

A nice relaxed pub with a warm welcome and excellent Sunday lunch with family. A good choice on a Sunday with 4 roasts and 2 veggie options plus some alternative dishes on the special menu. Large yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes with fresh vegetables. Good choice of bitters and vast range of other drinks. The friendly team and management make you feel part of the family with great smiles and humour. Resident dog just adds to the ambience like a rig in front of a fire. Our second visit and this will not be our last now we have found this great pub in Haslar area of Gosport.

Went with my Wife , Brother and Sister in law, yesterday afternoon, The food was great and plenty of it, nice friendly place, A New Forest gem, horses, Donkeys, cows wondering around outside, only thing was we weren't asked how our meal was, and left us to talk over dirty plates, which wasn't cleared, thus no tip,

We went last week for our wedding anniversary dinner and both chose chicken breasts stuffed with haggis and wrapped in bacon, mash, Savoy Cabbage and a red wine gravy. Absolutely incredible. Highly recommended.

First ever visit, booked initially for the large garden and children's play area, but kept the booking even though the anticipated child and child's parent's couldn't make it. So glad we did.

From the outside the pub is clean and tidy but we weren’t sure. Was it just going to be another local centric boozer that did a bit of re-heated food? We took our chances and gave it a go. So glad we did.

My wife mother in law and grandma visited this evening and it was absolutely fantastic, I had the rodeo burger which was cooked to perfection, my wife had the lasagne which was amazing too, mother and grandma had the lemon chicken and it says it all when all plates were clean ! Reading the reviews, it seems to vary a lot depending on the chef. All we can say is that we had a really enjoyable meal here today. We came quite a distance and pre-ordered as we were a large party. The food was delicious, from the onion bhajis/Scotch eggs (which I had a try of !!) to the minute steak which can often be quite a disappointment. All the food ordered disappeared fast off our plates so thank you to those working at lunchtime today. Very impressed and, if you can keep it consistently good like this, you really can't go wrong :-). Well done and thank you for surprising us in a positive way !!

Think we must of arrived too early as at 1230 the parsnips and cabbage that were served were severely under cooked, but roast beef tough as shoe leather. Dull flavorless less than average roast.

Credit where credit is due, this is not the first time that we have visited this pub. The other times (over 6 months ago), the quality of the food was outstanding, the vegan/vegetarian options were superb and the attentiveness and knowledge of the staff was excellent.

We discovered this pub 6 months ago. We have since been there around 10 times for meals as is walking distance for us. A really big attraction is that they give equal attention to vegetarian, meat and gluten free dishes. As a family of three with vegetarian and meat eaters we have had some lovely meals. A few more fish options would be good but generally the menu has a good variety of choices. Others have noted that vegetables with Sunday roasts are hard - from our experience it’s great to find a venue which doesn’t over cook the veg to mush, they seem to hit about the right mark for us. We have found the team to be welcoming and friendly even wrapping ham hock bones as a take home for the dog! So generally this has been a great experience, but nothing had ever gone wrong. Having a child free day yesterday we went to the pub As a couple looking forward to a nice relaxed early evening. The starter took a while to arrive and when it did the waitress advised she had written the order incorrectly and both starter and main had been cooked to come out together. As we didn’t want our main getting cold we asked not to have them at the same time. It felt as though we had given the wrong answer and disappointed the waitress . We had the starter (lovely) and then the main arrived.... the ham egg and chips was swimming in oil, the egg was rock hard and there was an absence of pineapple chutney although a strange arrival of coleslaw. The piri piri chicken was dry. It seemed likely that the food had been kept ‘warm’ and, as a result, dried/solidified. Our drinks had run out halfway through the main, previously staff had been quite attentive in checking for top ups. Not on this occasion. No one cleared our mains for us or asked if we wanted dessert and so eventually we went to the bar and paid and left. So... everyone has a bad day and occasionally things will go wrong we all know that. But it is how places deal with that which is important. So yes we would recommend this pub but, from our experience, do be prepared to be disappointed if something goes wrong.

3 of us had the Sunday roast beef lunch - these were not at all good. The food came out from the kitchen very quickly and it tasted like it had been standing pre-cooked for a while! The roast beef was very dry and chewy and didn’t have any pink whatsoever in the meat - on the menu it said the roast beef is cooked as rare! It was horrible. The roast potatoes were tasteless and some of them hard - the roast parsnip was very hit and miss - one piece almost raw and the other piece burnt. Hardly any gravy at all on the dinner... we asked if we could have some more but only 2 little jugs came out between the 4 of us. The Yorkshire puddings were cold. The food was Such a disappointment & a complete waste of hard earned money. I should imagine it would be nice to sit outside in the garden if the weather is nice and you have children. Also very dog friendly- there were quite a few dogs there on Sunday. We were very much looking forward to our Sunday roast so we were very disappointed indeed with our food.

We were a table of 6 celebrating a 70th birthday. The birthday boy didn't know it was going to happen. The staff were incredible and helped to make it a very special occasion. They placed us where we were not jostled, and where we could keep two little well behaved dogs under the table out of harms way. They were attentive at every point, and were extremely good humoured enjoying the fun with us and extremely efficient. The food was excellent . There was nothing we could fault in any way. Thank you Fighting Cocks, all of you. We will certainly be back again. (Next time in a taxi so we can enjoy more of that wonderful 6x.)

Great beers and good pub food - ideal for a drink and evening meal after visiting the Royal Navy Submarine Museum at Gosport . As well as a spacious dining area, there is a large garden. It was good to see how popular this pub was with both locals and visitors - it had a real buzz. We stayed at the Old Lodge Hotel and this pub was about half way between the hotel and museum (about 30 min walk between the two), so a great stop-off point.

From the outside you might think you could squeeze in a dozen people. Actually, there must be at least 60 covers plus a large garden! It has Victorian charm which hasn't been lost in the expansion. We dropped in by chance and it was excellent in every respect. Dog friendly for a start, good vegan menu, table service, home cooked food and everything we ordered was very good. Service was amazing, I think they should start up a sideline business training other pubs and restaurants how to do it.

This is certainly a hidden gem - not what you expect from the outside. Walking through the door you are greeted with friendly staff. The decor is fantastic, really cozy. The conservatory/dining area is great - really bright and spacious. The garden is wonderful - lots of seating and great to have a play area for the little ones. The staff are really friendly. The food is really good - you certainly know you are getting home cooked food. We have only been here twice now because didn't realize how good it was inside. We will definitely be going back lots :-)

Found this place by accident, having taken a wrong turn in the town. I was certainly glad I did. Super friendly owners, good menu...but not a cheap one...free car parking in the street and opposite the pub, free WiFi, reasonable selection of beers, lagers and cider.

We booked a table for 10 people and were greeted with a smile as soon as we walked in the door. When the table was booked, we were advised they only serve roast dinnners on Sundays which we were perfectly happy with. We were seated in the extension which was warm and comfortable. Food was brought out all at the same time piping hot with the most impressive Yorkshire puddings and extra gravy! The beef was so tender and the standard portion sizes were ample....if you consider the Big One, check out this photo. The bill was happily separated out by the manager to make paying easier.Most impressive and best roast dinner by a mile. Will definitely visit again.

This little pub is a great little local. the food is excellent and the team very friendly. Dogs are allowed. would thoroughly recommend.

First visit here and will be back. Party of 7 came on a recommendation for a roast, we all enjoyed our food. Place is lovely, staff are happy and food is excellent.

Went here today for a quiet family meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Good menu with plenty of variety and a lovely pub garden for our little one to enjoy and play in Will definitely return in the summer!
