The Fat Gherkin in Lisburn

My wife, daughter, and I had a late breakfast here today; the food and coffee were first class, as was the service. The Brioche French Toast (apparently not listed in the recommendations options) was spectacular. We would certainly go back.

It was so yummy and delish would defo go again played good music downside no gerkhins

Had a lovely sandwich followed by a slice of cake, the orange and pistachio loaf cake was excellent. Have visited many times, food never disappoints.

There was a reasonable queue when I arrived but the wait wasn't long. The service was friendly and speedy and the food was really good and very reasonably priced I felt. Will definitely go back.

Best sausage roll in the country

I visited the Fat Gherkin for the first time with a friends a few weeks ago. Really love the place, great food and good atmosphere. We both got soup and a sandwich and really enjoyed it. Staff were really down to earth, friendly and attentive. Would defiantly recommend this place.

Just had a take away Caesar salad as a healthy option but far too much sauce drowned it resulting in a soggy salad and tough chicken to go with it.

I recently visited The Fat Gherkin in Moira, Northern Ireland, and I must say that I was thoroughly impressed with the overall experience. Lovely vibrant family atmosphere Food is excellent with a brilliant menu and choice..the preperatiom of the meals are presented excellently..the staff are very helpful and pleasant as is the owner Alwynn.i always enjoy my visit. I most definitely highly recommend..well done for a pleasant experience every time.

Very small portion, not good place when you hungry

Had breakfast here, quickly seated , order taken immediately, very quickly received drinks & food came quickly. Pleasant staff , would eat here again!!

The place is so cosy, food is unreal, staff members so relaxed, friendly.. Worth to visit. Has a little, nice back garden aswell to sit outside on the nice day. Will definitely visit again. My eggs Benny was amazing! 😍👌 Thank you.

Food was good and plenty of it! We had to wait about 10 mins to be served while the staff stood about talking about their night before antics.

My wife and I called without a reservation and we were quickly shown a seat Next a menu and drinks (soft) We both had a lovely lunch and it was served by extremely amicable staff And all at great prices Definitely highly recommended

You have to wait to be seated in this cafe. The food was mediocre but presented nice. Coffee was good. Staff were friendly had a a giggle with the waitress about the size of the sausage 😆

The food was great along with the service could have been a little more on the plate for breakfast the fat sausage made it up a bit may beans and toast with the soda stack

Lacking atmosphere and staff not welcoming and friendly…. Coffee was ok, not much choice of sweet treats to accompany the coffee which was disappointing.

Great upscale twists on classic dishes. Eggs Benedict loaded with great chunks of ham and eggs poached to perfection. Good coffee too. Worth the half an hour wait for a table.

Just hadsone tea, which was not nice. The music was good, but atmosphere cold.

It never disappoints, you may have to wait a few minutes for a table but don't let that put you off, food is amazing, hence so many people going and that's why you may have to wait for a table

Fat Gherkin always delivers on a delicious soda stack; think I’ve visited four times. I had the full stack and a flat white and it was so tasty. My only qualm is I’m used to asking a café can I swap out items for similar items and it’s never been an issue. The Fat Gherkin waiter assured me I could make the items swap and it was my assumption no additional charges would be added. Surprised to see my £10 soda stack was increased to £13.20; I had asked for three items removed and two added. Messaged the café with my concern 7 days ago but no reply. Oh well.

Nice food although smallish portions for the price

Had a lovely breakfast this morning staff friendly. Was given a clean table promptly. Coffee lovely.

Family breakfast. Five meals some were good others poor. Only because the order wasn’t delivered correctly. Ie missing egg , bacon and wrong beverage delivered. Was the staff under pressure?? Has been very good in past but disappointment to out Sunday breakfast.

I ordered the "egg avo" which I expected to be the standard smashed avocado on toast with 2 poached eggs. I got that but I also got mushrooms, tomato, another slice of toast with butter and watercress with French dressing. It was all a bit much and just didn't work for me. The food itself was lovely but my eggs were slightly undercooked and I felt a bit sick afterwards. All the traybakes and scones look lovely and it seems like a really popular place. But the menu just wasn't for me - I think it needs to be a bit simplified and smaller portions.

Ten minutes from Belfast Airport. Fantastic food and extremely friendly staff. Able to offer vegetarian and vegan options. Very family friendly and a fantastic atmosphere. Thank you for the great food and service!

On a recent excursion to Belfast airport we stopped off here for breakfast and boy are we glad we did. The staff pleasant and welcoming, the place was spotless & the service was quick and efficient. But the reason for being there was to eat and as for that, it was simply amazing. In fact I'd go as far as to say it was emotional with the final bite. Will highly reccomend and will definitely call again if we're in the area. 5⭐

We've been before and was "just" ok, but we were hungry so decided to give it another chance. I wish we hadn't. Place was utterly freezing inside and we had to keep our coats on. For some reason the menu was limited we were told. Had to wait ages for food and had to ask how much longer it would be. The place wasn't very busy! I went for tomato soup with sourdough. The soup was literally vile. It tasted like they had run out of soup, so decided to add 5 ltrs of water to the pot to get more servings out of it. Just tasted of bland, warm water. Only the colour made me think it was tomato soup. My sourdough wasn't even toasted either. My friend went for the veg burger which she said was nice, it came with a tiny portion of leaves and a soggy, cold and overcooked pitiful amount of chips served with it was a bit of a joke. Very overpriced for what we had. When we paid, the server clearly saw I'd left all of the soup yet she said nothing. There was no "was everything ok" comment. I know I should have complained but didn't want to make a fuss with my friend there. We were getting up to leave and another older lady came over to us and said I'll just get your bill...... We said we've already paid and all she said was OK.... no apology. Don't waste your money. There are far nicer, more friendly and pleasant places to visit nearby. We will certainly not be back.

First time calling in, even though covid restrictions in place (we had to stand outside) only take away available. We ordered 2 flat whites with scones to take away. The coffee was very good, and the scones were packed in a box, and we had a separate paper bag with plastic cutlery and napkins in it. Very well presented - Thank You ***** I will definitely be back when I am next in town !!!!

Was meeting friends for lunch and discovered it is only takeaway service or sit outside. It was very cold sitting outside even though they had an overhead heater, the tables and seats were not comfortable. Couldnt believe they had no soup left at 12.30pm when lunch had barely started, really needed the soup on a cold day. The sandwich was nice but personally I didn't think it was worth the price. I dont think I would have ordered from this cafe if I had known beforehand you couldn't sit in, there were no soup left and if I wasn't with others......

Visited recently for breakfast after our friend had raved about it so much. The French toast & coffee were both delicious! The waitress was lovely and allowed us the choice of inside or out to eat. We did have to chase up on paying the bill but overall a great visit.

We just love to pop in here when in the area. There is such a fantastic range of food on offer and the staff are wonderful - always helpful and always smiling!!!

We were recommended by a friend we were staying with to visit for a breakfast. The decor was so lovely and the staff were very welcoming with nothing being a problem. We are from New Zealand and this was the closest coffee so far to NZ coffee. The full Irish was presented lovely and cooked perfectly.

Such a selection. Good food all freshly prepared. Staff very friendly. The surrounding are unexpectedly different. Will have a return visit.

We called here while house hunting in lovely Moira and had the friendliest of welcomes. Great coffee and a good selection of cakes. Highly recommended!

We called in here for breakfast on the way to our holiday destination. It was superb. The staff were warm and friendly. We had the Soda Stack (cooked breakfast) and it was outstanding. All of the ingredients were delicious and the sausage was of particular note. The cakes and scones were homemade and delicious.We will be detouring to here on our way back!

Always stop here when up here with work. Lovely people and great food. I've never bothered trying anywhere else in Moira.

Lovely little place, in a wee town with a few very good eating options.The FG holds its own very well, I had Avocados and eggs with chill jam and chorizo, lovely, it looked so tasty I couldn’t wait to take a picture!Definitely come again

Visited here for the first time last weekend. We ordered the eggs benedict and two french toast. The eggs benedict was amazing would highly recommend! French toasts were also great! We will definitely be back.

Just stopped here for breakfast and a coffee while having a quick meeting with colleagues. Lots to choose from on the menu I had avacado egg which was lovely nicely presented and tasted so good. Only downside was my coffee it wasnt the worst I've ever had but not just for me I found it very bitter. The staff were very friendly food was good and it had a very relaxed atmosphere. Would def stop again if I was in the area.

Been to the Fat Gherkin a few times for Sunday breakfast. Good food and great staff. Full Irish breakfast was very good and not greasy.

Had a brunch date with a friend last week. I love the layout of this place and the atmosphere. The variety of foods available mean I’ve never had the same brunch twice so it’s always great going here because you can’t really get too bored with the menu.

Great selection. Haven't been in a while but I hope the potato and bacon cakes will be making a return. Nothing too much trouble, good selection of wholesome salad choices. Yummy

Great place for breakfast the avocado on sourdough with crispy bacon is fantastic. The chilli jam makes it. Would highly recommend it. Service is always warm and friendly .

I like this little cafe, love the broccoli, hazelnut and feta cheese salad. The food is really good overall and handy if you would like fresh food, freshly prepared food. I feel whole and healthy after eating here.

Friendly efficient and accommodating staff. A limited menu but adequate for a light lunch. The Soda Stack (mini fry) was good and the breads tasty but not particularly exciting.

Called with my wife on our way to an appointment but when had to leave early before order was ready the girls went out of their way to prepare our food and teas in takeaway boxes for us to bring with us. Excellent staff and very helpful - the food was lovely too!

Stopped in Moira for breakfast en route to Fermanagh. Absolutely the best. Super coffee. Delicious food. Very helpful, friendly staff. The place is spotlessly clean and staff are efficient and smartly attired.

I had lunch with a friend, I think it was some affair with poached egg on avocado-smash toast and a mushroom. The food was okay, but a bit bland all-in-all. I also thought the prices were most definitely on the high side for what was being offered.

I went for breakfast today and it was delicious, but not only that the staff were so friendly! We fussed with our order and they just laughed along patiently and got us what we wanted.

Went for breakfast with friend this. morning, as the previous cafe produced a co,d breakfast, unable to eat it. I ordered scrambled egg and our dough toast, with coffee. The coffee was lovely, the scrambled egg was hot, the sourdough was quite thin for breakfast, would have eclectic something a bit thicker, overall it was quite enjoyable. The waitress came to our table and enquired if everything was ok. Would return tu not too soon.

Normally I don't review the coffee but on this occasion I will. Top marks. These guys know how to make coffee. The staff were welcoming as a solo despite being super full (Sunday noon time). Nice weekend shop inside. Well worth a visit.

Met my sister,who lives locally, in the fat gherkin for lunch. Never been before, but I had the best sandwich ever with a cup of soup. Chicken, stuffing and cranberry on lovely fresh granary bread, a sandwich packed full of flavour! I would have given fives stars, but the utilitarian chairs were not comfortable and let the cafe down.

My boyfriend and I visited the fat gherkin today for breakfast and it was fantastic! We sat in a lovely part of the restaurant at table 4 and both had French toast which was amazing and the service was great too! Loved it!

The Fat Gherkin has always been my go to and remember being a complete cupcake fanatic when it first opened!!! It's the best café in Moira for everything café based from coffees to scones but the highlight for me has to be their Eggs Ben!!! The Fat Gherkin epitomizes how a café should be run with friendly staff, a personal experience and amazing food!!!

My favourite coffee stop after a long Friday walk. Love the latte and raspberry and white choc scones. Catriona and Jenny always on the ball and know our order without asking1🤣👍

I haven’t been to the FG for a while. Went for breakfast. Staff are great. Food is never ready very quickly but it is fresh and tasty.

I've been into the Fat Gherkin twice in the past 2 months for lunch and I've a more positive experience than negative, but there are a few detractions from the overall delivery and presentation.

The moment you walk through the door your greeted with a warm and welcoming smile, hugged and lead to your area of dining.

Heard this place was amazing so decided to try lunch on a Sunday. On arrival very busy and the staff were, how can I say, meh!!! Lacklustre and couldn’t be bothered! When we sat down we were given a breakfast menu so all that was for offer was a standard fry or homemade pancakes! My kids ended up ordering a sausage roll and a croissant, I had a coffee and my partner had a fry. The bill came to £30 which I thought was extortion and ruined my Sunday brunch experience and my time!! It was extremely busy but I think that’s because nothing else in the town was opened!!

Love this place! We pop in for lunch when we are in Moira. The scones are second to none! Staff are fantastic! Highly recommended.

Went here mid morning. Lovely place with very friendly staff. I had the Soda stack which is cooked breakfast on a soda bread. My wife had Eggs Benedict. The food was excellent. Very reasonable prices and definitely recommend this place if your in or around Moira.

Normally when I go with my daughter who is gluten free, there is usually something that she can have but unfortunately on this occasion there was nothing. We had to leave and go somewhere else.

A great cafe for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. I get the warm salad almost every visit - it's healthy, delicious and the freshest produce is used. Sometimes I get the daily special. I've never had a bad lunch. Hot food stops early though -at 2 or 2.30 (can't remember which) and that's a real shame. Moira is usually heavily congested with traffic so give yourself extra time if you want to visit for lunch so you don't miss out.

Can't compliment The Fat Gherkin enough! From the moment we walked in we were made to feel so at home. The menu was varied & lots of choice - was hard to decide what to have for breakfast!
