The Exchange in Derry

we had dinner here as we were in Derry on a 2 day break we chose the 5pm -7pm menus which was great good variety it was very busy so had a drink as we had to wait for a table lovely food and great service it was a Wednesday night and we were surprised how busy it was Lovely meal and would go back again

We went here to celebrate a family gathering. The place itself is very comfortable and decor was good. It was a little busy. We got our food but my starter was seafood chowder. It was a bowl of cream with very little fish in it. Not nice at all. The service was fine . We found it very expensive indeed. Don't believe a meal should be that overpriced, we only had one meal not a weeks supply. Sorry.

They need to sort out a better system when it comes to advertising an Early Bird menu and not taking bookings. The early bird menu is advertised until 7pm Monday-Thursday. We arrived at 6.30pm on Thursday and told it was a 1hr wait for a table which we were willing to do. We assumed because our name was down from 6.30pm & we had no control over the waiting time that we would still get from the early bird menu. When we were seated around 7.20pm we were given the evening menu(which is ridiculously priced for Derry). When we asked for the early bird menu as we had been in from 6.30pm we were told it is based on what time you are seated. The girl said if we are seated at 7.20pm and someone comes in at 7.20pm &is; given a different menu it is unfair but this makes no sense as you don't expect to get a menu which finishes at 7pm if you arrive at 7.20pm but you do if you arrive at 6.30pm! They need to allow bookings up until the time the early bird ends or allow the early bird to be given to anyone who has their name down for a table before it ends as people don't know how long the wait will be before they arrive. Food was nice when arrived but still Derry standard and definitely not worth the higher prices.

Very tasty and reasonably priced food and drinks. Stopped on a Tuesday night and ordered from the Early Evening menu (available to 7pm). Food and service were excellent.

Great atmosphere, went for lunch with 2 friends food was good quality at a reasonable price, what's not to like 👍

He estado en el Exchange muchas veces a lo largo de los años, siempre bueno, buen servicio, buena comida, no importa la espera siempre ocupada, y entiendo que les gusta un cambio rápido, pero en esta ocasión estábamos en 5. 45 obtuvieron una mesa de inmediato, estábamos esperando que llegara otra persona, nos preguntaron varias veces si estábamos listos para ordenar, les explicamos que estábamos esperando el uno al otro, el gerente de piso Paddy, preguntó la última vez y dijo tenían gente haciendo cola para las mesas y la persona a la que estábamos esperando sería larga, no lo que yo o los demás esperábamos que les hablaran así, muy decepcionados,

The Staff are so friendly and helpful. The food is consistently of excellent quality and is great value for money. Would definitely recommend a visit!

Went with 12 others and although it was ok, just, I wouldn’t be rushing back , I had roast beef dinner , beef was a bit tough , sprouts were so undercooked they were inedible, I had one in my mouth for five minutes trying to chew it , very basic meal for what we paid , I had cheesecake for after and it was lovely

Al principio, estaba un poco desanimado por la atmósfera, un poco ruidoso para mi gusto y mucho espacio abierto con poco para protegerte de tus vecinos. Pero entonces llegó la comida. Y fue sobresaliente, al igual que el servicio. Esté preparado para marcar un servidor que pasa si necesita algo, ya que no hacen un seguimiento agresivo como lo hacen en los estados. Pero la buena noticia es que cualquiera / todos están felices y pueden ayudarlo con cualquier cosa. Tuvimos 4 personas diferentes que tomaron nuestro pedido, trajeron nuestra comida, trajeron nuestras bebidas y tomaron nuestro cheque. En general, una de las mejores comidas que disfrutamos en el país. ¡Bien hecho, Exchange!

Went out for a meal had Stacked Fillet .. 5 stars very tasty cant wait to go back again.. great atmosphere

Although you can’t book a table, food is excellent, atmosphere is great as people are always waiting, staff are excellent. Very busy weekend nights so be prepared to wait. Staff are excellent and it’s warm and comfortable.

The exchange has a great reputation for great food and with my son's 20th birthday in mind we opted for the The Exchange. The food was excellent and the staff are always friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I had the lamb and it was superb and plenty of it. the Exchange is always busy (sign of great food perhaps) so be prepared to wait 30 mins or so - always a great excuse to have a drink and catch up with family or friends before a real culinary treat. Highly recommended.

Arriviamo in questo ristorante su consiglio della proprietaria del nostro b&b; perché l'unico ancora aperto alle 21:30. L'ambiente è curato, il cibo discreto, con qualche caduta (chicken carbonara, una sorta di carbonara con pezzi di pollo! Ma non avevamo capito bene cosa fosse). Rapporto qualità-prezzo accettabile.

The Exchange is always great. Food scrumptious,big portions. Staff very helpful and accommodating. Mixed menu. Could perhaps be more vegetarian choice but I have always got something delicious to eat.

Had a great meal here the first night in Derry. Enjoyed it so much we came back the following night. Always busy, arrive when it opens for dinner so you are not disappointed. Very reasonable prices for the quality.

Have been to the exchange many times and it never disappoints. Food is excellent and there is a car park nearby. Staff are friendly and helpful and restaurant situated close to the famous peace bridge and city hall so enjoy the sights as well

I love pubs. But the problem with most of the pubs in Ireland is that they serve lots of drinks, and a smattering of snacks, but not that many offer a full menu for a meal. So because we wanted to eat more than drink, we passed pub after pub that only served drinks. Finally came to the Exchange Restaurant. Very nice and lively atmosphere with a friendly hustle and bustle about it. Delicious food. We had Blackened Salmon and Grilled Sea Bass. Excellent!

I had the cauliflower steak and it was very tasty. Generous serving. Can’t speak for the rest of the food as didn’t try it! Seemed like a good place for groups as we had 8 at our table. Service was good.

Free WiFi and a place to plug my laptop into. Had the red curry lentil dish and it was very good. Servers are friendly.

We were recommended to go to The Exchange and had high expectations but not to be. It is very busy & very crowded which gives the impression but must be good. We gave our name as they don't take bookings & returned 45 minutes later for our table. Staff are polite but very busy so there is no time to chat to customers & make the occasion feel personal. I had chicken which was fine but the salad that accompanied it was only suitable to give a rabbit. Dry, brown on the edges, limp & completely inedible. We did pass this on and they apologised but that was it. I would not recommend The Exchange, it felt like a busy club restaurant & the food was nothing special.

Family from England came to visit so went to Exchange on their last evening. Needless to say the place was buzzing for a Wednesday evening. Waited 25 mins or thereabouts for a table. Food as always very tasty, hot and service excellent so well worth the wait whice gave us time to enjoy a delicious cocktail or two. Exchange never disappoints would highly recommend.

As a leading local primary school, we were delighted to use the City Hotels meeting rooms again for interviewing Perfect location for people travelling from out of time, easy to find with local parking. The service that the City Hotel offers is excellent, all staff so pleasant and welcoming. Chris who assisted us in the meeting room was very attentive and looked after all our needs. Was recommended this steakhouse by a recepionist at the Maldron hotel, Derry. Glad she did. They didnt take bookings so went to try it. Waited only 15 mins. Well worth the wait. Had the mini bang bang chicken skewers for starters, very tasty. Had the fillet stack, with mash, tobacco onions and pepper sauce. Added the garlic fries and honey roasted veg, Asolutely beautiful, Nicest steak ive ever had. For dessert i had profiteroles and ice cream, Beautiful feed. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Was suprised how little the bill was in the end. Lookn forward to gettn back. Id recommend this place to anyone who likes good food.

Fantastic steak and rib plate. Best that I have had anywhere in years. Service was excellent. Our waitress had a good sense of humour which was a pleasure to see. Make sure that you have plenty of room in your tummy as the portion size was enormous not to mind the large dish of excellently cooked chips.

Came into the Exchange this week because it was recommended by one of our Tour Guides and Bus Driver. The recommendation was spot on.

We ate here while staying in Derry two times, we chose to come back after having the first dinner. The food was delicious and they worked with my partner's garlic allergy. Drinks were tasty and the place felt casual classy.

Weekday lunch at the Exchange was nice. I had the Louisiana Chicken with Tobacco Onions absolutely gorgeous. My husband was disappointed as he had asked for his steak to be Medium rare but was well done, he never sends food back in case he’s not sent back out a good dish. Son had chicken escalope with cream potatoes and gravy, chicken was very dry my son could t eat did eat some of the potatoes and gravy. Was glad we had a voucher to use

I wrote to the management to report that I had been over charged on a round of drinks. I asked for a receipt and which was only produced after I had already paid. The difference was only a few pounds. The barman said it was a mistake. I wrote to the management but initially got no reply. It was only later when I said I would be making a comment on Trip Advisor that I got a reply to say they would look into the issue but despite a reminder I have heard nothing since. I advise anyone buying drinks at the bar to get a receipt to ensure that they are not being overcharged and that the sale is actually rung up on the till.

I visited The Exchange with a few friends. I have been there before and had the same main course; goujons of lemon sole. On this occasion I was disappointed in the quality and size of the portion. Another friend who also ordered them felt the same. The dessert; pavlova was delicious but too large a portion for me. The staff were lovely and attentive especially since the restaurant was very busy.

Very busy restaurant, located in downtown Derry, Northern Ireland, among many, many shops, all within walking distance. Wait staff were polite and accommodating. Large portions and tasty. Vegetarian options! Full bar. Silverware wasn't clean and although I ordered the vegetarian entree, mine was the last to arrive, long after the others were half way through eating their meat platters. Poor serving management.

I've been coming to The Exchange for years. 9/10 times it is excellent. It is popular with locals, and is very busy almost every night. The menu never changes, but that's not a problem for me as I really like the menu. It is very reasonably priced. You are pretty much guaranteed to receive a good meal in The Exchange.

6 of us went to The Exchange for a family meal. We all had something different and all enjoyed our meals. The portions were generous. I had fish, chips, peas and tartare sauce. It was excellent. The staff were attentive and the service was efficient

Fuimos aquí por un cumpleaños, siete de nosotros. Tres de nosotros comimos el pollo panko, dos comimos la hamburguesa y dos comimos el pescado del día. Teníamos ajos, papas fritas, arroz y puré que todos compartimos. Todas las comidas eran encantadoras. Algunos tenían merengue para el desierto y otros tenían tarta de queso, seguidos de té y café. El personal era encantador, nada demasiado para ellos. Bonito día, sin duda volveremos.

Modern interior in a central location near the guild hall. Friendly efficient helpful staff. Great choice of dishes.

Buzzing little place with very friendly staff. Food is good and very reasonably priced, although my colleague found the sauce with her duck rather salty. All in all, though, well worth a visit.

We ate here on Thursday evening and ate from the Earlybird menu. Great value, lots of choice of mains and sides, good service. Over all a very good dining experience, would recommend to anyone.

Gran valor para el dinero. Las porciones eran enormes, tal vez demasiado grande! Compartimos pan de ajo con queso para comenzar, ¡que era para morirse! Tuve el salteado mientras mi marido tenía el pato, ambos absolutamente hermosos. El servicio fue muy rápido y todas nuestras necesidades fueron satisfechas con una sonrisa. ¡Definitivamente regresaremos en el futuro cercano! : -)

Went for lunch on Friday before checking into hotel. Food was really lovely and great size portions. Staff couldn’t do enough for us. Always try to visit The Exchange when in Derry and never have I had a bad meal! Keep up the good work.

Nunca te vas de aquí sintiendo hambre! El personal es muy amable y servicial. Definitivamente vale la pena una visita si visita Derry! ¡Se me hace agua la boca solo de pensar en los pinchos bang bang y las papas españolas!

Used to be favorite spot for us but recently it has gone down hill a lot. Tables are very very close together, so much so that the couple on the table next to us were able to hear everything we quietly talked about (and make comments). A side order was left out of the order, starter selection was limited, mains were average. On the upside the staff are friendly. Couldn't wait to get out, which is disappointing because it was a past regular favorite but won't be any hurry to go back.

My wife and I with our 8 and 5 year olds visited the exchange on a Saturday evening (530pm). The service was excellent, fast but friendly and efficient. The food is delicious and my only complaint (minor) is the portions ate too big. The exchange is a busy and popular restaurant which caters for all ages, couples, party's and family's. It is not expensive nor inexpensive. There is an extensive menu catering for all tastes.

Sister invited us up for the evening and we went here. It was very busy and we had to wait on the stools at the front for about 35 mins but we had some drinks and we got our table eventually. Food came out relatively quickly and was quite nice. Felt quite dark inside with no natural light and felt it could do with a little updating. But a lovely meal nonetheless

We loved this place so much we went both nights we visited Derry ! Excellent food great service and exceptional value for money on the early bird menu ! Plus it’s packs at 530 when the doors open but it’s first come first served !

Called into The Exchange on a Saturday evening , always a good sign when a restaurant is very busy at 6pm, loads of people waiting for a table ( can’t pre book) so it’s just turn up and hope for the best, we waited twenty minutes which wasn’t long , food was exceptional, service very efficient and friendly , I had the monkfish dish and my husband had the hake , really , really tasty and filling , monkfish fish was really big , flavours were out of this world , can’t wait to get back !

Very friendly service, lovely food, no booking though, go early to avoid disappointment, first come first serve (bit of a pain). We ordered fish and it was amazing. The interior is so pretty and it's reasonably priced. It rarely varies from it's original menu so it is consistently good quality. Would highly recommend :)

Nice welcome told table would be a 10min wait so i could wait at the bar are, no pressure to get a drink got table in 5mis .they ave 2 menus early evening from 5.30-7pm and alcarte i choose off early menu i had rump of lamb with green veg and carrots cauliflower puree with side order of mushrooms and baby pots a for sweet banoffee pie oh and not forgetting my diet coke ha ha service was 1st class

We visited the exchange on 31 January and as always the staff, food and atmosphere were excellent. While the table we were seated at was in a draughty position that’s the only thing we’ll be careful about on our next visit. Overall it’s a great place.

Our friends walked across the Peace Bridge and the handiest restaurant was the Exchange. It isn’t possible to book unless you have a group of 8 apparently BUT it was worth the 8 minute wait. We sat in a comfortable booth and a waiter approached immediately to take our order. A lovely menu at a reasonable price and the food was terrific. It will be on any future visitors trail.

I've dined in the Exchange over the years. While I have little negative to say, the menu and venue haven't changed much in the last 15 years and an update is greatly needed. Competition in Derry has increased hugely over this time and I think they have to up their game. Notwithstanding this, the staff are perfectly pleasant and the food is of a good quality.

We were looking for a place to eat on a Tuesday evening in Derry. The Exchange was recommended by our friendly taxi driver as he thought the one we’d selected was a bit of a miss. So glad we took the advice. The exchange was busy and lively for a Tuesday early evening meal. No bookings means there could have been a queue! Excellent value and lots to choose on the early evening menu. Good beers too.

I went here with a large group of my team that I work with, we all got our food, no one had any complaints. Everyone loved what they got and the staff were great as well.

Another visit for lunch and it was just as tasty as ever.The steak sanwich was just amazing ,really succulent and just enough chilli to make it hot but not overpowering

Was staying locally, and had been recommended to try here, Wednesday night 6.30 is normally a quiet time, especially in January, but it was rammed in here, we had to wait on a table, as you can’t book,but it was well worth it. Food, drinks and overall service was excellent!! Will definitely return on next visit!!

You cannot book a table here, so be prepared for a wait if you arrive and it’s busy. Still it’s worth the wait. Although it’s not mentioned on the menu, they have GF options for all but 1 or 2 of their meals, including GF batter and breadcrumbs. I had tobacco onions for the first time in years. Service was prompt and friendly, plenty of room on and between the tables.although it was quiet when we went in at around 18.30 it packed up fairly quick after that. They do make it clear on the menu that you can stay as long as you want after your meal, but would like you to leave the table and sit by the bar, allowing them to re-use the table. This place is worth a visit and a wait if needs be for a table.

Fabulous location, wonderful food, recommend the surf n turf, it was 1st class, had to wait for a table, as it was very busy, it was well worth the wait, the staff were lovely, great atmosphere. Best place for evening meal in Derry .

Ate here over the bank holiday weekend.. Attentive friendly staff . We didn't have booking and got a table round 7pm. Seemed to fill up after 8. Great food choice the hock ham and monachero cheese croqette was fab .. the cheese and bread and cold meat platter was above and beyond... plenty of fab Spanish wines.. a must .. steaks and chicken dishes also on menu with specials if the day. We will definitely be back.

Recommended by B&B; we walked to the river for early bird dinner. Hubby had a filet and I had tuna. Both were beautifully presented and more food esp with the sides than we needed. Restaurant was crowded with mostly yound people but service was excellent. Enjoyed it so much we returned the following day for lunch.

Thoroughly enjoyed food in this contemporary restaurant last weekend in Derry. The menu offered a variety of dishes to suit all tastes. Very central to the city and quality reflected price. Best fillet of steak I've had in a very long time, amazing!

Nos sentimos tentados por el interesante y amplio menú. Los platos que elegimos (atún y pato) fueron cocinados perfectamente y bien presentados, y el ambiente animado y el personal muy amable y servicial lo convirtieron en una muy buena experiencia gastronómica. Nos hubiéramos comido aquí de nuevo si nos hubiéramos quedado más tiempo en Derry.

The Exchange is an up-scaled restaurant near the river. The food and service were excellent. Very busy place.

Un bel week-end al Nord dell'Irlanda e facendo tappa a Londonderry ci hanno consigliato questo ristorante, devo dire che è stata una bella e piacevole serata.

Lamento tener que comentar desfavorablemente sobre mi reciente comida aquí. Pedí el Chicken Bang Bang, que cuando se retiró del pincho consistía en 6 piezas de pollo, muy bien condimentadas y algunas piezas de pimientos asados. La cama de ensalada consta de 2 hojas de lechuga, un poco de repollo rojo rallado y unas rodajas de pimientos. Había un plato para cada una de las 3 salsas, todas encajadas en mi plato, que no eran mucho más grandes que una placa lateral. Mi pedido de papas pequeñas de ajo en cubos fue bastante sustancial. Tomé menos de 10 minutos para comer esta comida. Apenas toqué los saltos porque no tenía nada que sumergirme en ellos. Comí la mayor parte de mi pedido lateral, ya que todavía tenía hambre, pero una vez más, me hubiera gustado tener suficiente plato principal para "mezclar" los dos. Cuando la camarera me preguntó cómo era mi comida, mencioné muy bien lo decepcionada que estaba con la ensalada y el tamaño de la porción, ya que no valía la pena pagar 16. 55 para. Explicó que era 'filete de pollo'. . . . . ¡Yo esperaria! ! De todos modos, no volveré al intercambio. , muy caro sin ningún esfuerzo real de proporcionar un plato principal adecuado. Los precios generalmente han subido en el último momento, pero los estándares han caído.

Sabíamos por el anuncio que esto era comida "irlandesa moderna". Estaba lloviendo ya menos de una cuadra del City Hotel, así que decidimos probarlo. Nos quedamos encantados con la comida! El servicio fue rápido, los precios correctos, y el ambiente fresco y moderno. Definitivamente no es comida de pub.

We went to the early dinner and weren't disappointed. The service was excellent and the food very good with lots of variety. My husband had the tandoori chicken and I had the chicken fajitas with a Cesear salad. We both enjoyed our meals and with the price of the early dinner menu, it was a bargain.

Visited for lunch after a walking tour. Excellent food and service. I'm a big eater and the wife and I split a sandwich and added a bowl of soup. Very filling.

I was with a large tour group. The place was busy when we got there, really busy. It had a good vibe and that must be the attraction. We had a set menu, the food was pretty good. I'm sure the regular menu was spectacular.

Our hostess at our B&B; recommended The Exchange for the early bird dinner. We followed her recommendation and boy, were we glad we did.

In city for 2 nights, hotel staff recommended the exchange to us. Our first visit, we had been warned that it could be a wait before eating as its a busy place but we were lucky and only had 10min wait. I ordered pan fried salmon on a pea & prawn chowder,honey roasted veg and it was all lovely so tasty one of the nicest meals I have had. Friendly and attentive staff will definitely return and recommend to others.

6 of us went for lunch today and i was very impressed. My first ever time there and will be back. Service bit slow at first but everything else was very good. Lovely pleasant staff, food delicious and very affordable. Will be recommending. Thank you all.

We arrived for lunch yesterday, there was 4 mums each with prams. Although we where told we had to wait 20 mins the staff where very efficient & friendly accommodated us & rearranged tables to suit the high chairs. Food was excellent & very tasty. Very reasonably priced.

Nous sommes resté deux jours à Derry. Première tentative un vendredi, il fallait attendre au moins 1heure et nous avons renoncé. Nous y sommes retournés le samedi à 17h40... Il faut s'adapter, pas d'attente cette fois.

Vero e proprio ristorante, raffinato ed piuttosto elegantino. La clientela era per di più locale e ben vestita rispetto a noi turisti in giacca antivento e scarpe da ginnastica. Nonostante l'apparenza sofisticata l'accoglienza è stata cordiale e calorosa. Il menù è ampio, con scelte sia di carne che di pesce a prezzi giusti per il tipo di locale; le nostre portate erano gustose e ben presentate.

Great atmosphere and excellent food. Short wait, but worth it. Definitely recommend you eat here, it is just a three minute walk from the City Hotel.

Ate here quite a few times food excellent no complaints the last time I was in for lunch in July with my sister when she got home and checked her receipt she had been charged for a large glass of wine which we didn't get but we put it down to a one off error but low and behold went today for lunch and yes again charged £3.75 for wine we didn't get well that's just not good enough.

We went for a drink and dinner.My mohito was fantastic. We order monkfish and it was just heaven 😊 one thing maybe half portion will be enough. Very nice staff we will come back

I ate here in August with my partner. We both ordered separate meals and shared our sides. Unfortunately my husband got sick as soon as we left the restaurant and I was sick that night. I emailed the restaurant and their reply is attached. Very dismissive, unconcerned and unwilling to ensure this did not happen to anyone else.
