Just returned from the perfect lunch experience. Charming old pub full of Kentish character. Hops on the ceiling, low beams, an open feeling yet cozy with nice table space. Wonderful Landlady who was a super host.Excellently stocked bar for every taste. We had a family meal for a memorial to our grandmother who lived next door, so a happy time and good food and service was what we hoped for and we got that in abundance.I had an incredible rump of lamb. Big portion and cooked perfectly how I asked for it, medium rare and crispy on the outside. It melted in the mouth. Clearly quality sourced meat which I found out was locally sourced.The staff were attentive and nice, coping very well with a full house. It looked the perfect place to prop up the lovely old bar as well as enjoy the best country pub food. We will return after this wonderful experience Thanks so much

Booked this at the last minute. Had the homemade Indian tasting menu. Great food and would definitely recommend. Sam was so friendly and made us feel very welcome.

Such a lovely pub, great food, great service and really lovely to visit. Taking all the COVID precautions you’d expect to see, felt safe and relaxed.

We had a great lunch and the service was very friendly. The food was plentiful, tasty and all freshly prepared. It is still one of our favourite pubs in the area and will definitely return.

Pub is attempting good things with keeping customers safe presently. It’s a place we frequented regularly over the years. However, food was disappointing this evening. Service even more so. Generally food prices seem to be £2 to £3 too high. We ordered second drinks, which never arrived. Home again within one and a half hours. Off our list now.

On holiday with my family and wanted to find a nice country pub for an evening meal came across this lovely pub and had a superb meal, good portion size and cooked to perfectionStaff really friendly and helpful.we had our dog with us and he was welcome too. Had a pint or two of Harvey's these guys know how to keep a good cellar one of the best pints I had in years.Would recommend if you fancy a good quality meal and beer.

What amazing good we loved everything fab staff cannot wait to go again my veg pie was delicious and my husband's lamb was gorgeous his words and my fruit crumble and my husband's cheese cake was soooooo good thank you

It is fantastic that this local pub is still open during these really difficult times. We had a take away curry on Saturday and the food was really well prepared and tasty. The spices were great and the quality superb, Our son who was caught in lockdown with us said the food was better than he had tasted in some Indian Restaurants. The portions were generous and the collection wa seasy. We also had some of their famous pies and were not dissapointed, they were tasty and substantial. Support this local pub so they can pick up after these issues resolve themselves. Stay safe.

Since it changed hands a few years ago, I feel the standard of catering has deteriorated. Last time, I had the smallest portion of green veg imaginable. They had obviously run short. My fellow diners had plenty. I was annoyed, as staff did not compensate me.The dishes sound good but actually what you get is not good value considering generally inexpensive ingredients. However, it is all home prepared. Portions not that large.The ambiance and decor is lovely and tasteful.

Had a brilliant sirloin steak here last week. Fantastic meat - cooked perfectly to my taste. Thanks to all the team.

Warm welcome on arrival at this lovely village Pub. What an English Pub should be. Great looking bar as you walk in and an attractive eating area too at the back. Staff were lovely and provided a separate Vegan menu for two of our party. Very helpful in checking dietary requirements with the Chef and when the food arrived everyone said how tasty it was. I'm not a Vegan so I had the seafood platter and pie of the day which were delicious. All meals on our table were beautifully cooked , very tasty and nicely presented. Service was great throughout and the bill was reasonable. Nice cosy ambience in the Pub . Highly recommended and so nice to find a venue with a dedicated and tasty Vegan menu. We will return.

Excellent food, varied children's meals at a great price and portion sizes were perfect for my hungry kids. Lovely ambiance with the open fire near by to our table. Boardgames also available so kept the kids entertained.

We often pop in for a few drinks and a bite to eat with friends. Always made to feel welcome. The staff are friendly and the landlady is equally as pleasant. On a few occasions she has gone above and beyond for us when we’ve ordered bar meals way past the cut off time. Even when busy she has made an effort to cook us what we’ve asked for. Simple things like that go along way and keep us coming back. Absolute 10/10 for Tessa and her great bunch of staff. Lovely country pub with open fires. Highly recommended to anyone in the area. Sadly, I’ve noticed a recent negative comment about the Ewe & Lamb and I can confirm that it is so far from the truth. Tessa is a wonderful landlady with Dan who is an extraordinary chef along with great bar staff.

This is our second visit in six months. The ale pies were tasty and the service friendly and efficient. The calamari starter tasted like fried bits of batter and was not worth 7.95. I guess we will be more careful to question the food choices in more detail

Popped in with friends for lunch, had passed a few times and thought the pub looked nice. It didn't seem very busy when we arrived which is never a good sign but we thought to give it a chance. Ordered our meals which took a while to arrive and when they did we found the food to be lukewarm and several of the plates were chipped. We also noticed that the pub was rather grubby. And don't get me started on the state of the toilets. When we complained to the waitress she just shrugged and didn't seem too surprised. A very disappointing visit. Poor food and surly staff. We definitely will not be back!

What a lovely restraint. we went for Sunday lunch having chosen the carvery we were not disappointed. the staff were very pleasant and professional. the portions were generous.

We went there on a Sunday afternoon to try the carvery after an overnight stay in nearby Cranbrook. As we eat out often I can honestly say that the food here was excellent and very reasonably priced. The staff were also very polite and welcoming and we will definitely return if we are in the area again.

We met friends for a Monday lunch.young lady behind the bar was very good ,charming and helpful.

Lovely friendly pub serving excellent food. Took my parents for lunch and they loved it, delicious home made pies the best soup my mum’s ever had!! I would highly recommend it and will definitely be back

We booked a table for 2 two weeks in advance as part of an anniversay celebration. As there were 2 sittings we booked for the earlier one at 12.30, on arrival we were seated by the front door which was left open making it too cold for us. We asked if we could move and were seated closer to the bar.We ordered drinks and starters.At the time we asked when we could go to the carvery and were told they would let us know in the meantime more and more people were coming into the pub,all of whom were sent to the carvery before us. By the time we were called there was very little left a few tail ends of beef and gammon. I asked them why and was told we were the last of this sitting and thats all they had left, although we were the first in the pub.

Friendly welcome good real ales & reasonable selection of wines. Delivery problems meant that all fresh fish dishes were not available on the night of our visit. Although good value for money and the service was good, the food served was at best average.

We have recently moved to the area and wanted to try out some pubs. Looked online and this one had a great reviews. We booked for the Friday night, pub is lovely as you walk in and staff very friendly. Food was brilliant and also catered very well for my little boy who has allergies, nothing was too much! The young lady who served us was brilliant. We enjoyed it so much, decided to head back for Sunday dinner with friends. Great welcome again and food lovely once again!!

Had a meal here last night. Both chose starter and mains from the speciials board. All four dishes excellent. Dan the chef is turning out some excellent food.

Rang late morning and booked for my wife and I as we hadn’t been to this pub for a few years.

We’d been to the Ewe and Lamb when it was under its previous management. But it seems much more vibrant and friendly now. Huge range of wines by the glass, good guest beers (and Harveys always seems to be on), plus hearty food and big warm fires in winter. The landlady is making a big effort with events too - they deserve local support and they seem to be getting it. The pub was fuller than I have ever seen it before... cheers

Choice of 3 meats, ample vegetables, all superb quality and cooked to perfection. They called us up table by table after a short wait. Very full and satisfied. Quaint kentish pub restaurant.

Decided too try one of the Ewe and lambs famous taster nights and I must say the food was brilliant bruschetta too start with then ravioli risotto arancini ball lasagne came away feeling pleasantly full Great company great food and great staff

I scored this pub Very Good on account of the food, which was just that. The chef's specialities are his pies an they are indeed very good - wonderfully light shortcrust pastry, and a welcome change to find a pie actually full of steak/lamb/chicken as billed on the Menu

Lovely meal thank you. I was unable to manage a pudding which was a great shame as I was looking forward to it. The starters and main filled me so much. the food was absolutely gorgeous and the staff simply couldn't do enough for us. Cant wait to go again.

Really enjoyed our evening at the Ewe and Lamb. A very friendly local with good food and Harvey's beer in excellent condition. Clearly a focal point in Rolvenden Layne, where local people meet and chat. Pity it's 25 minutes from Kilndown - a bit far to drive home after an evening out. But we'll certainly go back.

Treated mum and dad to the Japanese taster night for birthday/father's Day. They were a a bit apprehensive as they hadn't been in 20yrs and previous taster nights at other venues had been lots of money with little food!

Decided on the spur of the moment to stop in for lunch. We found the service friendly and attentive The menu and specials catered for all needs My Steak and Ale pie was particularly good with soft tasty meat, mash and gravy with perfectly cooked veggies

We were staying at a local Airb&b; and had a choice of different places to go for a meal but liked the look of this ones menu the most so went there and were not disappointed! The staff were lovely, very welcoming and the food was absolutely excellent, compliments to the chef! Such a good atmosphere would definitely recommend.

We visited here for lunch after Sissinghurst Gardens and it was perfect.

Just come home from eating at The Ewe and Lamb in Rolvenden which we normally do at least once a month. Never have we been disappointed with a meal or the service here, always first class food and always service with a smile and a sense of humour. The main menu never disappoints and the specials are always to die for! The chef often comes to the table to tell us what he recommends before we order and the staff are always smiling and cannot do enough to for us. Highly recommended, you will struggle to find a more pleasant atmosphere or delicious meal in the local area. Thank you all so much!!

Tess & Ben have now owned the E&L; for two years. Continues to offer excellent food in great surroundings. We visited on a Sunday evening and had their "build your own steaks" menu, where you can choose your preferred cut, sauces, and sides to accompany it - excellent meat and choice of options.

We went here on my husbands birthday after hearing good reviews about it.

But for TA, we would have happily travelled on to somewhere on the main road. However, over a hot chocolate in Tenterden we saw how well regarded was the Ewe and Lamb. So off we went. Good choice made all the better by a sunny evening enabling us to sit and eat outside. We had a variety of dishes from the Thai vegetable curry to the burger and from the mushroom linguine the the cooked in breadcrumb Brie. All delicious - and such friendly service!

Lovely old pub with real log fire. Lovely food more restaurant food than pub food. Great service too did not book just passed by walked in great choice of food too.

What a great little pub, with great beer and the food was superb. Weekday visit for us where service was spot on - weekends are much busier so consider booking ahead.

From the minute we walked in the door, the staff could not have been more polite, professional, friendly and welcoming. We went for the carvery which definitely surpassed our expectations. We had the lamb, which was gorgeous, along with the array of vegetables to choose from, it was a terrific Sunday lunch. Thank you to Tess and Ben for a fantastic meal. Well worth the drive and we will be back. Just one suggestion to make it even better.... we were so full and content could you please supply hammocks for a snooze after xx

Great old pub with open fire and well decorated. A good selection of wines, gins and whiskeys. Well worth a visit.

What a lovely little pub. Friendly and helpful staff. Food was absolutely amazing. All fresh and the tastiest thai curry I have ever had in my life. They catered for my allergy and nothing was too much trouble. Prices were really reasonable too.

Vegan, Indian and Thai taster nights have been fabulous. Menu's have been cleaverly put together and the food and service are a standard above the norm. Can't wait for the next one. Big thanks

On the recommendation of friends we paid a family visit to this reasonably local pub.

Lovely lunch out with hubby had the Sunday carvery of mixed meat ,Yorkshire puddings ,roast potato and numerous vegetables yummy heavy creme bridle for dessert

So glad we found this pub, just 8 min drive away from home. Cosy atmosphere, lovely food and the staff are so friendly. Will be using it regularly from now on 👍

We just had a wonderful Christmas Dinner and met some lovely people. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere very family oriented. It was like being with family. Great value and a really hearty meal. The staff here are very friendly and the clientelle as well. Well done to everybody for making it such a pleasant day.

My wife and I really fancied a proper home made meal. We often drive and explore new places and we come across the Ewe & Lamb.

A weekend away lead us to the Ewe and Lamb ( pre booked ) - what an amazing find, tucked away down Rolveden Layne nestled in between residential houses. Everything from the staff, service, atmosphere and the food was spot on. I am quite critical by nature but could not find fault from the gorgeous steak and kidney pie through to the cloud like sticky toffee pudding. As I write this I could easily drive back the 90 miles for the same again !

We’ve just had a lovely evening in this village pub having a vegan taster menu which was absolutely brilliant. Great atmosphere, nice staff, no time pressure, good prices. What a pleasure. Highly recommend for vegans as the selection and choices were very good and inventive, not at all the normal stuff restaurants turn out for vegans.

My wife and I took a short break in Rolveden Layne, using it a base for travelling around Tenterden and the local area. We visited the Ewe and Lamb on our first evening and enjoyed an excellent dinner. Service polite and prompt, food delicious, modest pricing. We enjoyed it so much, we went again for lunch the following day, after a vineyard experience at Chapel Down (separate review). Highly recommended, we would have no hesitation in recommending or visiting again.

Recently visited this pub on the way back from Camber Sands...wow what a find, a great Sunday lunch. Will be back again soon

Hadn’t been to this pub for a few years but heard via a friend it was worth a visit. It was a great recommendation; great food, excellent service, reasonable prices and an fantastic range of dishes. This place is well worth a trip.

What a fantastic evening . 8 of us tried the curry taster night and it was perfect. My wife and I are both vegetarians and we thought we would just eat the vegetarian part of the meal provided . The staff had already catered for this though and had very kindly made some extra vegetarian dishes for us which were amazing. The pub itself is such a relaxing place to eat and the staff couldn't be more attentive. Thanks for a really great Monday night .

A lovely feel to this pub in a small out-of-the-way village. It could have been a London gastropub, were it not so friendly and relaxed and lacking in pretentious vibe. The food was certainly of that standard, with an interesting menu to choose from. My partner pronounced the 'special' of saddle of lamb to be absolutely delicious. I chose the haloumi burger, the best I have ever had. The red pepper and spinach contents were lovely to look at and lovely to eat. Both the pesto and chips alongside were home-made. Service was exceptionally helpful and the Harveys beer went down a treat. We will certainly return.

Eight of us lunched here after a tour and wine-tasting at Chaple Down vineyard nearby. Despite most of us ordering different main dishes, it was all served within a reasonable time and all agreed that the food was excellent.

Amazing food, amazing service. Such a lovely little pub. We had the bread starter and garlic mushrooms, which were so nice. For main we both had the Nutroast carvery, everything was cooked perfectly. The best nut roast I’ve had in a long time. The staff couldn’t do enough for us, and even prepared a separate vegetarian gravy!

We decided to try the Ewe and Lamb on spec and were immediately impressed by the friendliness of the welcome. We were shown to our table where drinks were served while we perused the menu. The chef was very helpful in explaining some of the dishes we were interested in as well as explaining that almost all the dishes are home cooked and cooked to order. I ordered a main of slow cooked beef skirt which was amazing and my partner loved her chicken breast in tempura batter. This pub/restaurant is a hidden jewel and a real surprise. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening.

Ate at the Ewe and Lamb as we were staying in the village at the delightful Maytham Cottage B&B; which I can highly recommend. As it was a Thursday it was pretty quiet. Food prepared to order so we had a dish of olives as a pre-cursor. Lamb was melt in the mouth and we were too full to be able to eat a pud. I would certainly recommend this pub for its delicious food and surroundings.

This is a superb find with a fantastic landlady & great staff. Wine & champagne choices are superb. I can honestly say, I have never tasted such amazing Pork Belly - best ever & so reasonable. Am sold. Beautiful pub in lovely rural location with superb B&B; less than 5 min walk away. Everyone should come here!

On a ride out decided to revisit an old haunt. Years ago it was part of The Hooden group. Since then it has changed hands to what it is today.

We continue to visit the Ewe & Lamb since Tess & Ben became the new owners 12 months ago. Steve the new chef came on board in Feb/March and is turning out some excellent meals. The Sunday carvery continues to be one of most popular in the area. A great local Kentish pub and restaurant.

This has been my local for the last thirty five years. I have seen it metamorphose from a traditional pub with a public and saloon bar to a tex mex and then a succession of owners, tenants and managers to the present pub/restaurant.

Booked a table here very last minute table for an evening meal with my husband. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating. Very welcoming and friendly with excellent advice on the wine list. I ordered from the specials board and the meal was lovely. My husband ordered from the main menu and again his meal was great. A lovely place for a meal and will definitely be going back.

Sadly the food took one hour to arrive when the place was empty and all of it was overcooked and/or cold.

This lovely Sussex pub, with great bitter and very friendly staff, give a warm glow especially on a very Wet Friday night. The 3 of us had the specials and we thought the food novel, very satisfying and well cooked. The wine for a little pub was excellent and we could not fault it. We have been here before and this chef is better than the last. Book early.

Wonderful little pub that serves food all day. The staff was very nice, the service was excellent and the food delicious. I had a home-made beef burger with brie cheese which was gorgeous, juicy and flavoursome.

The place has been recently renovated and redecorated and is in style and in keeping with its setting. It is friendly, warm and inviting. The food was utterly delicious and I am definitely going back again and again. A little hidden gem. "Thank you for a great lunch." (And the 'great' means in ambience, welcome, warmth, and of course the food and wine!)! Thank you.

Very friendly service in a nice atmosphere.Prawns with chorizo /french onion soup with home-baked bread as starters .Steak and kidney pudding as mains with some decent veg.Finished with fruit crumble/sticky toffee pudd and custard. Overall very good food not badly priced .We don`t live local but will certainly return when in the area.

Nice place for a pub meal. Nothing too fancy. Food was ok,simple. To be honest I think there are nicer and better Inn’s in the surrounding area..

We visited the Ewe and Lamb on three occasions whilst staying nearby. The food was excellent especially the Steak and Ale pie,with the proper short crust pastry was exceptional.The real ale was kept to perfection,and the atmosphere of the place just superb.The pub is family run who along with their polite staff provide a first class service.

This as been our local for a couple of years now and since its come under the recent new ownership it has really come into its own. There is a wide range of food choices and this always includes various vegetarian options which is a bonus for my family. The pub has recently been re decorated and beams exposed which has brightened up the restaurant. We often come up to the pub for a Sunday Carvery and have never found fault. As said before, there is always vegetarian options and they go out of their way to make sure there is something for everyone. Would highly recommend this pub to anyone!

such a lovely family feel pub with wonderful atmosphere, beautiful food, and absolutley lovely staff. they couldnt do enough for us. the staff were attentive and accommodated even the most fussiest of our party to ensure that she too had a great evening. I had a beautiful meal and was also able to trial the steak and kidney pudding that will be new to the menu. it was so perfect, the meat just melted and the pudding tasted just like my nan used to make, proper traditional cooking or the modern twist. I can not recommend it highly enough. try it once, you wont be disappointed

We booked and chose the carvery option for Sunday lunch. Unfortunately it was very disappointing. The roast beef was almost raw, and there was very little pork left - not surprising. The cauliflower cheese tray was empty and we were told there wasn't any more. The Yorkshire puddings were ok but quite cold. In fact the whole meal was not hot enough. Exception to the meal was the cheese board which was excellent. Not good enough for us to consider another visit.

Came to the ewe and lamb tonight for a family meal couldn't fault the service or food. Made to feel very welcome. Will come again it's without a doubt the place to go I will travel again to come here. Many thanks.

I have visited the Ewe and Lamb several times since it was recently taken over. On all occasions I have found service to be fast and attentive and food to be well presented and tasty. Tess and Ben are trying fantastically hard to become a part of our local community by holding coffee mornings and providing outside bars for village events such as our local pre schools fun day on the Sunday just fine. The Ewe and Lamb is well worth a visit be it for a large family gathering or just a cup of coffee in pleasant, light surroundings.

We booked for the Carvery from a recommendation and have to say from the moment we walked in we were made very welcome. All the staff were pleasant and helpful and was always checking everything was ok. We went for the three course option and all where very well cooked and presented. The beef was cooked perfectly and the Yorkshire puddings are just perfect. A good selection of veg and lovely gravy. The home made cheese cake is a must ! We will be returning and have recommended to many others. Thanks again keep up the good work.

We Have been in the layne a long time and cant applaud them enough! I recently held a fun day and Tess and her family were great. They supplied the bar for my event and gave a raffle prize of a carvery for 2 . I have eaten there many times and have always been satisfied. They welcome families with a smile and lots for the children to do aswell. The staff are friendly and the prices are reasonable. Also they have revamped the pub with a new look and given it that warm feeling. Thankyou so much for always being so kind. Tess and her family are an asset to this village! The member of staff who served us denied they had any ice, then grudgingly provided it. She then refused to make tea on the ground they were serving their diners, and she did not have time. She then got our simple drinks order wrong. As non-locals we were made to feel unwelcome. There are far better pubs in the area.

Decoration and ambience much improved but our meal was very disappointing. Unfortunately this pub/restaurant has gone down hill under the new ownership and quality of the food was extremely poor. We will not be returning.
