The Epworth Tap in North Lincolnshire

Travelled down from Leeds to meet up with friends at their favourite spot. This was the best dining experience for years. Great hosts, marvellous fresh beautifully cooked food with a really friendly atmosphere. Nearly decided not to post in case it gets too crowded. I’ll be back!!

THE best restaurant/wine bar in the area so far as I'm concerned. Fabulous food fabulous wine and fabulous staff! Love this place.

The ambiance of the wine bar and bistro us second to none. Friendly staff and we enjoyed our meal. Alas, ONE inferior white wine by the glass only - a variety of red wines though - , a medium glass was charged at the price of a bottle ( Tesco, Morison).

Booked for the Valentine’s Day set menu (£35pp) and absolutely loved it! We had breaded Camembert with chilli jam and garlic bread to start, boyfriend had the belly pork for mains and I had the chicken dish, then finished with chocolate covered strawberries and shortbread biscuits with chantilly cream to share. The food was absolutely beautiful and all homemade, perfectly cooked and hot, neither of us could fault it. The atmosphere was lovely and cosy, and they even left a rose on the table for the Valentine’s Day vibes! Staff were so lovely and attentive without being too pushy. 10/10 service, food and atmosphere!

We have been eating here for almost 30 years, and seen various owners. But the current owners are by far the best ever. The food is just on the side of adventurous, but not your minimalist eats. Jack and Steve always make you feel the most welcome people in the place, and the Chef, Sarah, deserves a medal for her dishes.

Visited on Sunday for cheese and wine and it was delicious, staff were so attentive and service was perfect. Perfect evening.

I’ve lived in the isle 40 years and never been before. But it definitely won’t be the last visit! My brother and his wife took me for the tapas night. It was delightful. Food was delicious, alcohol flowing and staff charming. Well done team.

Excellent meal, the pate starter must rank as one of the best I have ever had, the cheese board dessert was exceptional and would highly recommend the walnut cheese. The sirloin steak unfortunately was rather gristly but I would most certainly eat here again.

We visited the Epworth Tap on a busy Saturday evening and managed to get the last table available. Yet again, the food and service were perfect. The menu had changed from our last visit, which was great to see - the only issue was that I wanted about 3 things on the menu! I ordered the belly pork and my partner had the fillet steak which was cooked perfectly. For the quality of the food service and surroundings the bill was very reasonable. We will definitely be back and cant wait to try out the different options on the menu.

Three of us had dinner last night at The Epworth Tap and we could not fault a thing. The food.........the food was absolutely amazing. Make sure you leave room for pudding and make sure you choose the apple pie, THE best I have ever tasted. Top job, well done!

One of our favourite restaurants to visit and last night was no exception - Cheese and wine evening has always been a firm favourite for us! We have never had a bad meal or unenjoyable experience - the menu is always so hard to choose from as every dish sounds delicious and the staff are always to welcoming!It was only the second time we’ve been out for a meal since lockdown and we felt very safe, Perspex screens are fitted between booths and around the bar area to offer social distancing yet don’t detract from the lovely atmosphere inside. There were also multiple hand sanitiser stations throughout the restaurant. I can’t recommend the Epworth Tap highly enough!Thank you Sarah, Steve & Team!

We decided on a proper date night this weekend and managed to get a table for 2 here with just a few days notice. The evening turned out to be just perfect. As other diners have mentioned, the screens and the other Covid measures at The Tap have not changed the lovely ambience and the welcome that you always get. Staff were all great. On first taste of the bottle of First Fleet Shiraz we were both very impressed. What a lovely wine. Food was just brilliant. Starters of Crab Cakes for me and the Red Pesto topped Goats Cheese for my wife were absolutely delicious. Mains of Calf’s Liver for her and Tuna for me - again - just perfect - I’ve never had Tuna so well cooked (I.e not over cooked). We shared a cheeseboard and we like being able to choose your 3 cheeses. It comes with crispy fresh celery, grapes and nice variety of biscuits. Well done Steve and team. Keep up the excellent standards. Can’t fault you.

Ate at the epworth Tap for the first time in years after returning to Epworth to visit friends and it was fantastic in every way. Even with great social distancing measures in place it still felt cosy, inviting and homely. The owner Steve showed you to your table quickly to ensure the bar area was ready for the next group to arrive. We all had starters and mains with wine and drinks and everything was amazing. The pate was the best I have ever tasted. The chef manages to make the food look visually impressive yet wholesome and more than filling at the same time! We didn't have deserts due to a strict babysitting curfew to get home to but the ones that passed our table looked amazing!! The bill at £75 a couple for 2 course, wine and drinks was more than reasonable for the quality of service and good revived. Our only negative is we wish we had more time in this wonderful hidden gem of a restaurant.

We visited The Epworth Tap for our first evening meal out since lockdown, and it did not disappoint. For a relatively small venue, the social distancing/ health and safety measures that are in place are great and made us feel at ease straightaway. The staff were advising customers to take a picture of the menu and take their seat straight away in order to avoid customers being too close to each other.Steve could not do enough for us and was very attentive throughout the evening - as were all of the staff. The food was fantastic - I could not fault a thing! I had tuna steak, which can be disastrous if not cooked properly but it was perfect.The only downside was that we couldn’t stay longer .We will definitely be back very very soon! Thankyou for a great night!

First evening meal since lockdown but felt very reassured and safe. Restaurant and toilets were spotlessly clean, staff in visors. You have to photo the menu board then everything is brought to you.Lots of fish and sea food on the menu and a selection of really interesting vegetarian options too. Was quite a difficult decision. Scallops, crevettes and tuna steak were fresh and delicious! Hospitality was outstanding- we felt so welcome and we will be back! Thanks everyone!

Lovely 'quirky' place, loads to choose from on the menu, something for everyone! Our only 'niggle' was being charged £1.95 per person for vegetables on top of what was already a pricey menu. I think the vegetables should of been included in the price of the main course, as that added cost left a 'sour' taste and made us 'tip' less than we would of done because the service was really good!

We have been, over time, disappointed with the tardy state of quality food in town, sadly mostly `pub chain` standard - however to find somewhere where quality comes first has been an absolute delight. Not only was the food 1st class (having had the priveledge of dining at the highest level on the Queen Mary 2 we have been able to experiance the best) and the service was fantastic too! We will without doubt eat here again and will book very soon indeed. very informal with Steve and Sarah (backed by an excellent staff) gave us a fantastic night. Really human people caring for what they do with passion and IT REALLY SHOWS. I wish them every success as it is well deserved! The food btw was fantastic ;)

Cracking little bistro, menu constantly changing as food comes into season, good wine selection and excellent host. Service is attentive, friendly and consumate, prices are reasonable and the quality is unimpeachable.

Small, cosy, homely place, in an old building with pew seating it has character but may not be easily accessible for someone with limited mobile. Friendly staff but they need to be better informed. We went Saturday lunch and asked if hot meals were available at lunch time and told no. Luckily Steve caught us as we were leaving and said yes, a limited selection. We had drinks, mains, duck, pork, salmon served with a selection of veg and potatoes then puds, creme brûlée, lemon posset and fruit crumble. We all really enjoyed our meal. The Tap isn't cheap but we felt represented value for money. We look forward to dining there again in future. There is plenty parking in the nearby car parks and on the street.

A perfect evening with some friends. Some came to visit from abroad so it was important for me to facilitate the best possible experience.the Epworth tap provides a cosy ambience and Steve and his staff team's interaction further promote an escape from day to day demands. The food was sublime. One of my friends stated that she does not mind paying a little more. We will be back!

Went last night for the first time and booked twice more already! The staff and owner are all excellent, the quality of the food is excellent, the setting are unique all in all we had a great night! Can't stress enough how good this was

Just moved to the area about a year ago so we thought that we would try epworth tap for something to eat and we was not disappointed my partner had the belly pork and it was amazing I had the lamb shank also very nice service was great the owner came over and chatted to us which I thought was really nice of him . A little hidden gem definitely will returning thank you

The Epworth Tap is one of the best restaurants in the north of England. It is only small but serves food of the highest quality but at sensible prices. The menu changes regularly giving a wide variety of choices. Nothing is too much trouble when you come here for a meal

A rare 'date night' for my husband and I, a friend had recommended the Tap so we thought we would give it a try - so so glad we did! What a wonderful place! Fell in love with it the minute we came through the door. It's tiny, so cosy, and you are warmly welcomed when you arrive. The food was absolutely amazing, and the sauce for my duck was changed from orange to blackberry with no problem. My scallops were the best I have ever eaten - and considering where I have eaten scallops in the past this was unexpected!

Visited the tap on the 29th with a party of 8, visiting Epworth properly for the first time to see family. They took us here and were raving about it how good it was the whole day. Couldn’t have been more right! Everybody’s food was incredible (I know because I tried every dish) and I had no food envy as my dish was the BEST. Delicious Pork belly recommend by the owner. Unfortunately you won’t see this on my photos as, as soon as it arrived in front of me I couldn’t wait to take a photo. The service was super and really friendly, you could tell that everything was cooked fresh to order. Sometimes it’s difficult with timings for a table of 8 but all of our food arrived together, after about 40 mins and was piping hot!! The menu was cool as was written on a blackboard, I was told this was because the menu changes so often which is exciting. I definitely want to give this little place another try, as I couldn’t fault!

This was only our 2nd visit & it was for Christmas dinner on the day ! ,we could not have had better service from all staff & the food / menu was EXCELLENT ..... the belly pork was amazing along with everything else , I don't eat fish & was offered an alternative .Highly recommended ,thank you so much H & J Potts ( table of 6 with the Johnson family )

Went to epworth tap for the 1st time on Saturday 20th October with family of 5, from the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome, the overall service was very good and the food was cooked to a very high standard, was nice to go to a restaurant and not to have the same menu. All starts and mains we on a board and changes from day to day. Will defiantly becoming back again.

First visit to the Epworth Tap and I absolutely love it. The owners work hard to ensure their patrons have a first class experience, their staff are also very friendly and welcoming. We had booked a table for a family Saturday evening meal for 4 and they were also able to accomodate my grandson with a high chair which was an added bonus. The place is compact, which I think adds to the overall atmosphere. The menu provides a good selection of meals, so there should be something to satisfy all taste requirements. The food we ordered was cooked to perfection and very tasty, and the portion sizes were good. I had read a few comments regarding the prices charged, however I tend to find you get what you pay for, and for the quality of food we had, the prices were acceptable. I live in a city and often eat out, and I can say that I have been charged a lot more for lesser quality food, just wish the Tap was local to me. If you are looking for a place that has atmosphere and offers excellent food with a friendy service, then you need to try the Tap, I will certainly be back when next in the area.

We have been visiting this restaurant for a number of years. Gave it a break after our last meal there was disappointing. First time back tonight. The starters were fab. My husband's main was good- he had chicken. However, my halibut meal was really disappointing. It was a very small piece of halibut and it was placed on a plateful of pea puree which made it a bit wishy washy. For the price it was really disappointing. I've had better locally for half the price.

A must if your in the area, food is excellent and great service. We have visited this restaurant a few times and on every occasion it has never failed to impress. The choice is fantastic and often very different to your run of the mill options.

Came to celebrate a friends birthday and I was chuffed it was here as I’ve wanted to come to ‘the Tap’ for years but live too far away.

A little place with a big hearted owner, we had Sunday lunch, roast with trimmings and chicken with more trimmings. Steve did us proud with excellent service from the girls throughout our meal. The tap has some extreme tight spaces with tables squeezed in yet there was still plenty room to manoeuvre a full electric wheelchair for Chas. You did us proud, see you next time we come to visit.

Lovely restaurant in a great location. Very friendly owners and staff and great food. Never feel rushed to eat up and move on when I eat here. Always feel as though the owners value your visit and are pleased that we chose to eat there. The place looks small from the outside but this is deceiving. Lots of tables upstairs and down. Well worth a visit.

First visit tonight, but will not be the last. Great service and staff, german beer on tap. We had multiple starters and all were very good. Superb fillet steak! Nice atmosphere and cosy.

Slightly nervous relatives took us to the Tap for their first visit. It is small and if several people arrive at once it might become slightly frustrating if you were in that state of mind. The slightly quirky nature of the venue (scrubbed Woden tables and 'church' pews) adds to its charm but make sure you have your memory switched on as the only menu is on the board above the fireplace. We had an excellent meal with robust portions. My selection of sea bass (which I miss in NZ) came as 2 large excellently cooked fillets and my fellow diners all enjoyed their choices of meal. Oh and how can treacle tart served with a light creme anglais on a cold April night be anything other than a delight.

Had superb Sunday lunch with wonderful friends. Steve and his team provided excellent service without being over zealous in a very welcoming environment , trouble was time passed so quickly had to zoom off home to walk the dog ! Food was a delight with my wife being totally besotted with Treacle Sponge and Custard - a real heart warmer - and a special cheese and biscuits. Thank you it was a delight.

There is a old saying that you pay for what you get and that's relevant here.it's not cheap but its well worth the money.These days service in restaurants seems to have become a forgotten art,with disinterested staff but not here..You are always welcomed warmly by Steve who is friendly while maintaining professionalism at all times.Once seated the serving staff attend you with skill that obviously has been trained into the standard on what the owner expects...

We booked an early evening meal here on Saturday. After ordering from the menu Sarah came out to have a word as two of our party are vegetarian and she was concerned that we would still be hungry with what we had ordered. She offered to make a special off menu dish and it was delicious.

We spent a fabulous evening with a large group of friends at the Epworth Tap. There were 11 of us, we all very much enjoyed the warm welcome and personal attention we were given by the owner, and the food and wine were excellent. We had the small back room to ourselves, and everyone loved the cosy atmosphere. It feels intimate and a bit special, and I was treated to a cocktail on the house, as it was my birthday. Everyone commented on the quality of the food ; the belly pork I had was excellent, and I also tried the toad in the hole & the portions were generous. We had a great meal, and the Tap is clearly still one of Epworth 's treasures.

Lovely restaurant, we came here for Valentine’s Day and the food was gorgeous and the main course was huge ! Value for money for beautiful food! The only thing I could comment on was the long wait in between courses but I understand with it being valentines the whole restaurant was full up so a long wait is expected. The staff were very friendly and polite ! 10/10

Booked the upstairs room for 18 adult private party. Sarah and Steve were extremely accommodating and we were very pleased with the 3 course menu which was offered. Food was excellent and the bakewell tart was to die for. Only down side was two separate tables but I think our fellas were pleased to have their own table. Thanks we will return

We decided to eat out this Christmas Day and booked a few months in advance. The 5 course meal was perfectly timed, perfectly balanced and sized and we are the lot! We spent a wonderfully festive 4 hours in the Tap and enjoyed every minute and every mouthful. The staff were attentive and friendly, Sarah and Steve were wonderful hosts as always and we came away feeling full, merry and very happy that we chose the Tap for our Christmas dinner! Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful family lunch while Father Christmas delivered presents for the children. The food was delicious and the service great.

Decided to return to The Epworth Tap hoping that our visit would be as good as the last we were not disappointed. Although the restaurant was busy the cosy atmosphere was not affected. Understandably we had a little wait however we tempered this with great pre dinner drinks. When my starter of pigeon breast arrived I soon realised that the wait was well worthwhile. My main course of a reasonably priced cod cooked in a wine and tomatoe source was exceptional as good as I have tasted. Our host was very attentive throughout the evening and the young waiting staff were a credit to the proprietor. We will return. My thanks for a very enjoyable evening.
