The Endeavour in Chelmsford

It was the first time of visiting the Endeavour and it was found, on a Monday evening, to be a quiet place to have an ale or two. There was a reasonable selection of locally produced real ales, plus an array of lagers, draught Guinness too. From the clientele that night it suggests it is a "local" pub, suitable mainly for those who walk to enjoy its offerings, there is no car park. Parking in one of the neighbouring roads might not be too easy either. There are a couple of areas which could possibly be used but they are definitely not intended for those seeking to enjoy the Endeavour. Advanced information indicated it has an outside area of seating but at 9 - 10pm on a late October night, the inclination to investigate it was not present. As I will be in the Endeavour's locality over the next few weeks it will definitely get further visits, their real ales were very reasonably priced. NB. I must clarify, the reason for not "marking" any stars against the establishments food is purely because of being there to sample their fine ales, the prospect of eating did not occur in my schedules of things to do.

Excellent choice of ales, very friendly staff , open fire and free juke box. What’s not to love. This is a friends new local . I will visit again when we are out out .

Super impressed! Super dog friendly. All dogs and customers were well behaved welcoming ahd friendly. The cleanest ladies toilets I've seen in a pub for a long time. Disappointed no Aspallls, however stunned they had the arguably better rarity Norfolk Adder. My partner said the beer was very good standard. Small beer garden, but the space was maximised to the highest standard possible and everywhere was clean, clean, clean. Such a lovely vibe about it.

Great pub. Like pubs should be and were. Full of charm and feels like you're in a cornish pub on a harbour! Fantastic selection of real and craft ales. Food is only a few days a week and mainly lunchtime but always good.

Nice local pub on the main road into town, nice staff and plenty of choice of drinks.

Have always passed this pub but never been in before. Stopped by for a quick bite to eat and a quick pint. Had a couple of sandwiches and a lovely golden ale. Terrific selection of beers and ciders Friendly staff and newly refurbed carpets throughout

It's such a wonderful pub. Naomi and her family are so welcoming. They always have good stout on tap, and the quality of their Ale is always excellent. The pub is always clean, including the toilets. Can't fault it in anyway...definitely our go-to x

Nice place to stop for a drink. The beer garden looked promising, but was packed full of people.

Have been coming to the Endeavour many years, such a little pub, but great atmosphere and the new owners have put so much effort into making it a fantastic little pub, big selection of beers and ciders, nothing is too much trouble and the landlady ensures you have a good experience. Haven't had food there ever.

A warm and friendly welcome for everyone from the staff and customers. A real home from home with top quality beer at good prices. No wonder it's Essex pub of the year. Fully deserved. A must to visit if you enjoy good company and great service.

A very clean and cosy pub with a nice selection of ales. Great for playing darts and there is a small beer garden out the back. It's a very friendly and welcoming pub so well worth the visit.

Nice local pub, had decent beer, friendly staff and a tasteful Jukebox. Sign outside said it won the CAMRA award for the area. Bit out of town but definitely worth a visit. Recommend.

What a fantastic little pub! Such a lovely atmosphere, really friendly staff, great range of beers on tap, even a taster available if your trying to make your mind up. Visited to catch up with mates, chose here on recommendation of one of the group who is a local and regular and we had a great afternoon and evening. Dog friendly too if that's a need for you. Totally enjoyed the visit and will for sure be back again.

A fabulous proper pub with an excellent selection of brilliantly kept, and continuously changing, real ale. So friendly, with cosy places to sit and a wonderful courtyard garden. Great pub grub, including home cooked specials, on Friday night, as well as Saturday/Sunday lunchtime.

Dropped in here for lunch with some work colleagues today, (first time in over 2 years) and great to see the place is as good as it was before. Understand the previous owners recently retired, new owners continue to keep the place nice. Great food, great beer and the fire was on. Needless to say, will definitely be back!

Lovely little pub, Lise and I spent an hour in there midday today (Sunday) and enjoyed a good couple of sauvignon blancs and a couple of pints, enjoying the sun streaming through the front window and watching the world go by. It's not big, it's not flash, it's not pretentious but it's nice and relaxing. Dog friendly too, which is lovely. Recommended.

Fantastic - Fabulous hosts, fabulous beers, unbelievably pretty courtyard. I’ve moved away and am going to miss the pub so much but anybody in the locality who hasn’t been there in the last few years - GET DOWN THERE you are missing a gem. What was once a dark and dingy pub run by a moody unwelcoming landlord has been transformed in the two odd years since its been taken over. This is a fairly small pub and theres not much that can be done about that but all can be forgiven if the landlord/lady and the prices are good and they are. A small range of pub food is served and seems popular. A darts board is present. Probably the best 'staff' in Chelmsford. Amazing what opening the curtains and letting a little light in a pub can do!

A friend was staying with us for a short break and we decided to eat at The Endeavour as it has a good reputation for food. We use the pub regularly but hadn't eaten there since the change of ownership. The food was excellent - freshly prepared, tasty, good portions and a nice range of choices on the menu. Highly recommended and we will be back for another meal soon - thankyou!

Went to this pub after searching for somewhere to eat while visiting the area. We read the previous reviews and thought we would give it a try. We were definitely not disappointed as we were made extremely welcome and the food was stunning, large portions and definitely value to money. Thank you so much for a really lovely meal in a great British pub.

We are so very lucky to call the Endeavour our local pub. It is an absolute gem. Fantastic food and a great pint. The Landlord and Landlady are wonderful and make everybody feel welcome. The locals are very friendly and will always chat. Well behaved dogs are welcome and that is a rarity in Chelmsford. I have lived in Chelmsford for a very long time and in my opinion the Endeavour is the best pub in Chelmsford and the surrounding area. Come and see for yourselves you will not be disappointed.

Lovely friendly atmosphere good ale and beer garden .

This isn't a lovely little pub where you get a very warm welcome from the staff. We only had a drink here which was reasonably priced but did have a quick look at the menu which seemed varied and very reasonable. It seems to attract all age ranges which is nice to see.

We live a short walk from the pub and are always met with a warm welcome for drinks or for food - the food is fresh and the service genuinely friendly . A great example of how to run a proper local pub .

Had Sunday Lunch here with my Family. The dining area is limited but we were comfortable with our Family of Five seated. (We had pre booked for a Sunday Table ). The portions were large, really well cooked, veg, meat and trimmings. The menu is limited because of the size of the Pub. It was well attended throughout the Bar areas, and a good variety of Beers available. The prices were good and service was prompt. If you want more space, more choice, and more to pay, and less quality, go elsewhere. All five of our Table were very happy with our lovely meal of Roast Beef and veg. and will not hesitate to return.

I don't often give a 5 star review but the food was excellent for the price. The service was friendly and the quantities were big. There was a very happy atmosphere in the pub. The curry was very good and my wife enjoyed the pie. All home made. No room for a sweet.The menu is limited but plenty of variety.Will be returning

This little pub is an absolute gem. The hosts Tina and Mike make you feel like you are walking into their home. The beer garden is amazing and cosy. The food is better then some of the restaurants in Chelmsford. Simple pub food but large portions and made with love. Luckily we can walk to this little gem but just wanted to say what a great little place and we are lucky to have these pubs still around!

Called in on Sunday around 14:30 and had an amazing pork & beef roast dinner. Well kept ales and a loverly sun trap patio garden out back. A bit of a hidden gem this. Landlord and landlady couldn't do enough for us... Great pub!

What a lovely, brilliant home cooked Sunday roast beef lunch we enjoyed today, followed with chilling in the pretty courtyard garden you both have created 😍 <br>Soo loved how cosy it is, and chatting with the locals, chuckling whilst overhearing Mike trying to organise this season's football team league.. 😆 ... I gather too that there are one or two Spurs supporters?? If so, I'll be to you to watch the games ⚽ 🏆😊 <br>

Mike and Tina Collins local publicans who have come out of retirement to transform this now gorgeous charming pub previousuly neglected with great care and immediately shown the locals hospitality not experienced before.A new small garden area created out of a back yard, a new approach to food and the whole pub cleaned to within an inch of its life. The Tina touch. A lot of real ales remain at the centre of its offerings.
