Lovely atmosphere, staff very attentive and helpful. Table service drinks very fast. But, wow, the food was awesome! Our group had a good range of the menu, and everyone was extremely happy. I had the seafood tagliatelle, one of my favourites but I have to say this was the best I’ve ever had! Excellent portions, food quality and flavour just brilliant. Fully recommend eating here..

We were here to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. The Dukes Head is our go to for all celebration meals. Sunday roast is a great meal to have. We love the pork and the roast beef. The fish and chips are great too. The wait staff are always friendly and kind. The atmosphere is nice as everyone is so friendly. We will be back soon.

We booked a table for two on Mother’s Day , the 12 o’clock sitting. This pub had been recommended by friends, so although it’s a fair distance for us to travel, we thought we’d give it a go. We were very pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the joint managers who made us feel very welcome. We ordered the roast dinner and the fish pie. I have to say that they were both delicious. The fish pie was packed with a very generous amount of filling and was very tasty. It’s probably the nicest fish pie I’ve had either in a restaurant or in a pub. My husband was very pleased with his roast dinner too… very filling. The service was excellent. The young waiting staff were friendly, solicitous and very attentive. All in all a very pleasant pub meal experience… other pubs and restaurants could take note! We have every intention of returning as many times as our budget allows even though it’s not local to us.

There were 5 of us and we asked if an extra place could be laid on a table for four to enable us all to sit together. The manager was most unhelpful, rude and overbearing and only grudgingly, and with bad grace, agreed to add a fifth seat.The restaurant was no where near full and his lame excuse that he now had one table only able to sit three, was risible. The dining experience was quite spoilt for all of us by this appalling behaviour.

Wow, decor amazing, all the staff were very attentive and as for the food , starters were delicious, my main which was a roast was absolutely perfect, varied vegetables all cooked to perfection! I chose the lamb , which was cooked just right! And as for the wide selection of puddings ….. go see for yourself 😋

I came here with my family, boyfriend and friends for a Sunday roast and it was honestly the best roast that I have had whilst eating out. It’s very difficult to come across a good roast dinner at a restaurant these days but I could not fault anything that we had eaten and the roast pork belly is amazing! Good portions, brilliant service and the atmosphere is really homely (even with how busy it was). The starters and desserts were just as delicious and we all had a brilliant time. Thank you to all at the Dukes - we will definitely be back very soon!

Taste sooooo nice 👍 Dinner was served as just cooked. Very hot and really beautiful taste. Even though we were so full, we couldnlt refuse to have a desert, which made us finished all and nearly lick the plate. Perfect dinner. ⭐⭐⭐ Also, need to say, the atmosphere, staff are great, too!

This pub is nice however there was no childrens menu and £11.95 for a tuna sandwich for a child is ridiculous, we asked the waitress if she could give us a childs version but no was the answer. This place is not child friendly and after spending £250 on lunch for 7 adults and 4 children, i think they need to have a rethink.

Arrived at 7.45 pm on Wednesday 8 February, and was told kitchen was closing at 8 pm, so we quickly ordered a main meal with drinks. We'd just finished eating when the last orders bell was rung at 8.45!! I asked if this was a mistake but the bar lady said it wasn't and they were closing as they were quiet! I've never heard of a pub doing this before, I won't be going back in case it happens regularly!

We had booked a table for Sunday lunch and were warmly welcomed and shown to our table. Our drinks order was taken and served speedily then we chose from the Menu. We both chose Roasts- 1 the Roast Lamb and the other the Nut Roast. Our food arrived quickly and the plates were piled high with great food including a good variety of tasty and freshly steamed vegetables. Both of us were defeated by several roast potatoes although they were lovely ! After a short break we found room to share a fruit crumble and custard, the crumble was well filled with a good amount of recognisable fruit and the crumble topping was crunchy and delicious. The staff were well trained, exceptionally hard working, efficient and friendly and the whole place had a wonderful atmosphere on a windy Wintry Sunday. It’s definitely worth booking in advance as the Duke’s Head was busy and having enjoyed our meal there we know why !

Came here with another couple on a Saturday evening in January. On arrival we were surprised to see it so empty. The man who I assume to be the manager or landlord made for a very unpleasant evening. Disappointing as we’d previously had a nice meal here which is why I suggested to our friends that we head there. It’s not exactly close for us & they travelled 1hr+ to get there. Our reservation was at 19:30 & at around 21:00 the manager (tall, larger, grumpy looking man) started repairs to a bar stool. I wondered what all the loud banging was & there he was , sat up at the bar behind us whacking a bar stool. This went on for 10mins or so. Our friend then thought she’d heard the bell ring once but I hadn’t heard it & assumed as it was around 21:30 she must have been mistaken. 10mins after this the banging started up again. It was then we realised it wasn’t a repair, but an attempt to make us feel uncomfortable enough to leave. We ignored him & carried on finishing up our drinks & conversation. At 22:00 he rang the bell for us to leave. The table next to us looked equally bemused by his ignorant behaviour. It’s no wonder it’s dead on a Saturday evening if thats the way you’re going to carry on. As we left there was no goodbye from him. He was just sat there playing with his calculator, making it obvious we’d outstayed our welcome. Truth be told, we weren’t made welcome from the start!! Food was average, certainly not worth the trek.

Just got home from a wonderful Sunday roast dinner with my son. A friendly hello given as soon as we entered (via back door) The food was exceptional quality and portion size big. Had a share antipasti starter plate followed by turkey and sirloin of beef roast dinners. Dessert was a Baileys brioche bread and butter pudding with rum and raisin ice cream. The beef was cooked to perfection (still pink in middle) and succulent, the horse raddish condiment had a great heat but not overpowering and complimented the beef perfectly. My son said the turkey was moist and full of flavour. Both roast dinners came with a huge Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, stuffing, fresh vegetables and gravy. We both agreed that there was one too many potatoes on our plate. The stuffing was lovely but not to our taste, purely a personal taste thing, by no means a problem with the chefs recipie or quality of the food. The Baileys brioche bread and butter pudding with rum and raisin ice cream was a good size portion (enough for two) we accepted the offer of a side plate to share. Lovely Baileys flavour came through but did not overpower the whole dessert. With our antipasti starter platter, we chose the prawns and smoked salmon option. The prawns were big and flavoursome. The smoked salmon also had good flavour. The flat bread was lovely and warm with a lovely houmous and selection of olives. Wasn't sure about the Brie and pickled onion served with the antipasti but it did work and we polished it off nicely. The staff/owners clearly know what they are doing without being overbearing or intrusive. It was very busy yet everything ran like clockwork. Every guest welcomed, no major waiting to be served, tables cleared and cleaned immediately, guests checked upon in a friendly manner throughout their stay with no rushing or harassing. People turning up without a booking were told when availability could be possible. Such a joy to use establishments like this. You feel genuinely valued and are able to relax. Can't imagine how hard the kitchen staff are working behind the scenes today. Thank you for your fabulous food. We will be back. *Booking strongly advised if you want Sunday lunch.

We popped in for a family dinner and were blown away by the standard of food and service. My biggest compliments to the new head chef his Ham hock special was absolutely incredible. It was the best meal we have ever had at a pub!...

We are regulars at the Dukes Head and eat there often. It’s always consistent good quality food, but they have made things even better thanks to a new Chef. My partner had delicious gluten free fish and chips, and there were some fantastic specials. The ham hock with Scotch egg and chunky chips that were delicious. The house burger was quality as always and I can only say ‘go hungry’ as the portions are extremely generous. We saved space for the puddings that have also had some new additions by the chef. Popcorn, toasted marshmallow crème brûlée, salted caramel brownies ( both Gluten free) were delicious and menu favourite ‘sticky toffee pudding’. There were also some new cocktails and warm drinks on offer, but we were just too full! Along with the friendly service, the usual fare of pub drinks I cannot recommend it highly enough. We shall be back.

Wow! My husband and I have just returned from a truly magical night at the Dukes Head. Firstly the friendly warm welcome from Ellie and her team set the tone for our evening. The service was fantastic from start to finish! As for the food...what a game changer! I am not sure if they have a new chef however the food tonight was a whole new level. We had the pumpkin risotto with sea-bass followed by the popcorn creme brûlée. I am not usually a dessert person but this was incredible and the homemade marshmallow was delicious. I couldn't recommend this place more!!!

Compliments to the chef on the duck meal we had yesterday from the special menu which was so well presented and absolutely delicious. To add to this the service and attention we received from Ellie and Katie was outstanding not forgetting the friendliness of the manager Karl. Whilst we were there the owners Wendy and Jean were discussing their plan for a Fizz Night. For November on a Tuesday night they are going the have two hours whereby you can have endless fizz and a platter of charcuterie, cheeses and fruit which we saw and looked delicious. How inventive to do something different as a warm up to Christmas. This is such a special pub and it is definitely a gastropub because the food is outstanding and of a top restaurant standard so be sure to book in advance because it is popular.

Dined here for the first time this evening . We arrived at 6.00pm and got shown to our table straightaway.The pub is just beautiful. Really cosy, welcoming, with a really good vibe. Contemporary, nice decor and lovely touch with the candles and lit trees. Just so welcoming.The menu has something for everyone, good choices of food and vegetarian options. Has a really nice cocktail menu too and i can recommend the lychee martini….Ordered our food. Good selection. What I also liked is that they are really accommodating….want to swap something out, yep, no problem. Small, but decent wine choices and very reasonably priced.Food arrived and was piping hot and so incredibly tasty. Good quality, quantity and delicious. A proper gastro pub. The chef should be recognised for the food, which was really v tasty and well cooked and presented. No one on our table was disappointed with their food.Desserts were lovely too.Cannot really fault this place. Highly recommend it. Oh and last but not least, the service was amazing. Thankyou Carl (manager, hope I remembered your name correctly) and team. The service was first class. We had a really good evening and we will definitely be back.

Most outstanding were the ladies(management I guess?)who served us.Service truly beyond compare.Charming,friendly and accommodating.We were fitted in at the last minute and encouraged to take our time to order our food and enjoy our drinks.Nothing was too much trouble.I had the king prawn linguine(really large portion and full of sea food,delicious!)and my guest had the salmon,who also said it was delicious.We ordered garlic bread as a side which was slightly too crispy but when we gave feedback after the meal,the cost of the garlic bread was taken off without request.So a lovely afternoon,in truly comfortable surroundings,we will definitely be back.Thank you ladies!

The service was very good. Warm welcome, prompt and attentive too.Broad range of choice on the menu and plenty to ponder over.Our food was served in good time and was delicious...esp the chips!Pudding wasn't as good as the main and felt like a bit of an afterthought but that's the only minor issue from a very pleasant evening.

The Sunday roast here is delicious! The food really does taste amazing and comes out hot. The only things I would change would be to make the plate bigger so it’s easier to cut the food and my lemonade tasted a little flat. I’m not sure if it’s just what lemonade normally tastes like but it just didn’t taste as bubbly and sharp as other drinks I have had. Apart from this the meal is literally 10/10. The staff are also friendly and welcoming.

Had a great meal, as always, Main course of salmon, with accompaniments was excellent and could easily be mistaken for a serving at a Michelin starred restaurant. Staff were ,and always are, very pleasant and would particularly mention Katie who was one of our servers.

I am fairly new to the area and I had to choose a local pub for 4 mates and myself to have a good meal and catch up at. I had previously tried to book the Dukes Head on a number of occasions but due to the COVID restrictions being in place, I could never seem to get a table so this time I made sure I booked way in advance and managed to get a Sunday afternoon reservation. On arriving at the pub, we were met by very friendly staff who lead us to our table and highlighted the COVID restrictions that the pub had put in place. The menu was extensive and offered a good range of appetisers, mains, roasts and desserts and all the food was surprisingly good and was delivered piping HOT to the table; being served lukewarm food is a particular pet hate of mine. The seafood linguini was particularly good, full of flavour, seafood and plentiful. I highly recommend the Dukes Head to anyone wanting to try it and will definitely be returning.

On entering The Duke's Head pub, we were met immediately by hosts who showed us to our table outside, with a reminder of the rules in place for Covid 'one way system.A hot and sunny day which reflected on the garden bench table, no cushions or blankets to sit on to prevent my children's legs getting burnt. My husband had to get a picnic blanket from the car.The garden area is compact and seating was available in a temporary Gazebo tent with pub style bench tables, covered in astroturf.We didn't wait too long for our lunch to arrive. The presentation was very good, though we had to ask on two occasions for some condiments.My son, halfway through his meal left to use the bathroom and was told by a staff member that he wasn't allowed to just wonder around and not wearing g a mask. We only learned of this, when he returned to the table, very quiet and my husband had a word with a staff member. On the whole, no complaints as far as the food goes, but felt for our son, sensitive as he is just finished his exams and we were celebrating.

We meet each month for lunch and this is one of our venues, so we're here maybe twice a year. Been a while since we were last here due to CV-19.Pleased to report that the standard is as good as ever. Excellent menu, well prepared food, good selection of beers, service really good. All four had very good meals, with the burger and Catys beer going down well with colleague.Always good and really worth five stars. we all will return.James

We booked a table for the 1st night of opening with groups allowed indoors.All the Covid rules are being followed without being obtrusive so our group felt safe, the service was excellent from start to finish, with all drinks being delivered to the table with a smile and some humour.The food was top class as always, the famous pie was described by one of the group as the best he had ever tasted and everyone was very pleased with their meal.So thank you Wendy, Carl and your team for a warm welcome and a real feeling that before too long life will be back to normal.

Lovely atmosphere - felt safe and that all COVID rules being followed. But did not loose the personal touch. The food was delicious - all four of us had no complaints - very tasty and good portions. Toilets clean. We will be returning.

Just enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Dukes Head. Highly recommend the steak and mushroom pie and fish and chips. Generous portion sizes. If you are lucky grab a seat at the back of the gazeebo. Very covid compliant and super pleasant and accommodating staff.

Been to the Dukes Head quite a few times and always happy with the service and always leave very full! Super staff and owners...
