The Duke of Wellington in Tonbridge and Malling

I was leading a walk and we stopped for lunch here. When I made the arrangements they could not have been more accommodating. On the day there were 17 eating, the pub contacted me in the morning so I could preorder our food: I said we would arrive at 12.15 and would like to eat at 12.30. This worked perfectly as the pub is so efficient. All the food arrived together, there were a range of orders and everyone really enjoyed what they had. We could not fault it and will certainly visit again. This was quite exceptional service with delicious food. Thank you so much for making us so welcome and looking after us well. Can’t wait to visit again.

First time coming here for a proper dinner and I was very impressed. The staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly. The meal was delivered in good time and all members of my family thoroughly enjoyed what they had. The veggie Mushroom Wellington was probably the nicest I've had in a pub or restaurant. I can't review the desserts though as the meal was so filling I couldn't eat any more. Nice pint of Harvey's ale with the meal.

Just had a wonderful Christmas lunch. All three courses were delicious and we all thoroughly enjoyed them. Would like to thank the two lovely ladies who served us, and also the chef who at very short notice provided me with a “take out” Christmas dinner for a member of my family. We have been here a few times for work lunches and will definitely be returning. Absolutely recommend.

We live local and love this pub, haven’t been in a while and took my parents here for lunch, sat in the pub side (which I love how cozy it is) and had the nicest lunch, some great veggie options, I normally go for mushroom chilli nachos but the vegetable lasagne was calling my name, and I’m glad I went with it, because it was lovely. Sometimes when you get given garlic bread with lasagne it can be very dry but you could tell it had been prepared in the kitchen and hadn’t skimped on the garlic butter! Thank you for a lovely lunch

Nice place and atmosphere, but they save money by serving consistently shy pints. We bought four. But estimated that we actually got about three and half.

Have been before and always had a great experience. Unfortunately tonight wasn’t one of them. Food was ok but service awful. Served by young lad who had no conversation at all. Didn’t appear to know what he meant to be doing He came to take our drinks order but never turned up for the food order so my husband had to go to the bar to order food which took ages. Wine was Luke warm so had to go to the bar again and to get ice cubes. Waited ages to pay and the man who eventually took payment was rude and aggressive. Garden needed attention, weeding etc and was v untidy Shame but won’t be going back

Lovely food, the service was good but we were rushed to get off of our table as the other party who reserved arrived! We cancelled any further drinks and a dessert, our table was originally reserved on the patio, yet, upon arrival we were ushered inside as the party before us wanted our table outside, I also requested a high chair for my child and this wasn’t added so he had to remain sat in his pram, the table we were on was jammed into a corner with little space, everything seemed rather rushed and we felt un-eased to relax and enjoy our lunch. Unsure on a return visit

Our second visit since COVID. It was for a lunch stop for a ramble, a circular walk from West Malling station. Foolishly I hadn't checked about table availability before my friend and I surveyed the walk the week before. Fortunately there was a beer festival being held both days that weekend so no bookings required. This was very well organised, with designated areas for beer and cider, and separately for food. Advance tickets were available too. 1 small moan - there was a great live band playing when we first arrived just before 1pm. However they went off after a few minutes and never returned while we were there. Never mind - the recorded music was good too. Food, drink and staff friendliness all great.

A monthly Thursday visit with a meal. Always good value and last night especially - chicken, gammon and leek pie (my partner had the sea bass option) followed by mixed fruit crumble and cream. Plus ale and wine.

We recently visited the Duke of Wellington for lunch on a Sunday. The pub was quite busy but we found the service to be slow and not everything we ordered was served which was annoying. The food was fine if a bit bland and we wouldn't go out of our way to return.

This is a great place for a Sunday Lunch, Always good service never have to wait more than 30 min for our meal. Lovely staff Always friendy and attentive. Nice choices on the menu, good quality food and always something for me as I don't eat meat, usually a veggie Wellington or similar.

Went Mother’s Day had the roast beef and starters chicken pate both excellent well worth the money starter and main came quick will visit again

We had a wonderful 3 course meal at the Duke of Wellington for my friends birthday (group of 31) Food came out quickly but had time to eat in between courses, nothing felt rushed. The food was amazing, cooked to perfection. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The Duke is very cosy with open fires. Great for birthday functions too, many personal touches to make the day special. If you want a lovely village pub, excellent food, great service then the Duke of Wellington is the place to go in Ryarsh.

We went just after Christmas as a large family group. It was our first time. I thought every dish that came out was excellent, and there are some fussy members in our group. The atmosphere is cosy and relaxed, it is in a beautiful little village and it is a venue best enjoyed at leisure. The service was superb and friendly but the food did take some time to come out; not an issue for us, but might be for those in a hurry. Book well in advance and enjoy.

After a lovely walk we ended up here for a couple of drinks. The owners are lovely and staff friendly. I was a bit confused when approaching the bar as I didn’t know where to stand and a couple of times I had to move out of the way of people coming back from the toilets but other than that it was a lovely afternoon.

I can’t remember having such huge portions of great quality food! It was really tasty, but can I complain about it being too much?Here’s the thing... I’m sure the management know what they’re doing, but surely if the main course portions were a bit smaller, they’d sell more deserts? We really wanted deserts, but were too stuffed! Yes, I know, we didn’t have to eat it all (and we didn’t, but our dog loved the leftovers).Even the kids’ sausage and mash was huge!Anyway, give this place a try, but maybe Tapas is the way forward!

We had been recommended to try this restaurant and we were really looking forward to it but left us a bit disappointed. Only two front of house staff working on a Saturday evening, juggling running the bar and restaurant, both very pleasant people. We ordered a couple of tapas dishes to start with and the calamari was ok but pretty sure just heated from frozen, definitely did not taste home made or fresh. For mains we had fish and chips and the roast veg tart. Fish and chips were ok. The veg tart was tasty but served with a mountain of skinny fries and underdressed salad. A shame as the fries , to me, didn’t compliment the dish, again ok . Bread and butter pudding for dessert, the menu described as sherry soaked raising, with brioche bread baked in baileys infused custard. We asked for ice cream, it came flooded with cream, no big deal but the pudding had no taste of sherry or baileys. It appeared as a slice of white toasted bread in cream and that’s all we could taste, no taste of spices etc. Again nothing extremely bad, but looking at all the reviews, maybe the chef was off that evening? Based on our experience, I doubt we shall return, a shame.

Located in a little village this pub is ancient, charming, and is one of my favourite restaurants which we use frequently and often take guests. Local competition is hot and the Duke is one of the best.Parking can be a bit tight due to its popularity. There is a petanque piste and pleasant garden. Summer eating is enjoyable as there is a sheltered area at the rear but not at the front.The menu varies daily and a la carte interesting and seasonal. Portion sizes are very generous but doggy-bags are not a problem.Make allowances for service time because all the food is freshly prepared. The vegetables are done to a turn and never overcooked.The staff are attentive and helpful and all seem happy in their work.

We like to try a new place to eat every few weeks and were not disappointed. Upon entering we decided to dine in the bar area . For tall people like myself rember to duck as you go through the door . My partner had the mussels and I had the prawns as a starter and the chicken breast as a main . Mussels lovely and hot served in a garlic sauce still in the shell accompanied with skinny fries and crusty bread . I though I had ordered the wrong thing when that came out but my chicken was to die for . Well cooked but still lovely and moist crunchy vegetables and baby new potatoes with a lovely rich gravy . We will be back again even if it's just for me to have the mussels . And one final note the staff were so attentive . Food stopped at 2pm but the chef waited around until we finished to check if we wanted dessert .

Had a really enjoyable return visit for a meal here with my wife. I had the 10oz Ribeye Steak, perfectly cooked, with Chunky chips and large field mushroom. My wife had a selection from the delicious Tapas Menu (Garlic Mushrooms, Meatballs, Chorizo) and we shared the baked Camembert. Very good beer too (Twickenham Naked Ladies). We were able to take our dog as well, as this is a traditional English pub, and had a lovely evening.Recommended!

Have eaten at this pub several times in the last 6 months with no complaints, good servive, food and friendly staff. Visited last Saturday 1/2/2020 prior to our table been booked three weeks in advance it was a terrible experience! We were placed near the door I ordered tomatoe soup it arrived straight from the microwave burning my mouth, I said to the waitress this is not tomatoe soup she passed on the complaint and a seniour member came over. she got hold of my spoon and swirled my soup around and found a tomatoe pip and said this is tomatoe soup! followed by i would like you to leave there is no charge and off we went, no customer service that night!!

Have eaten here on many occasions, always received a warm welcome. The menu is wholesome and varied. I personnally love the nachos with chilli. There liver and Bacon is to die for...There are excellent walks that start and finish at the Duke so go on give it a try. You wont be disappointed.

Dont bother with Jon the owner he is an absolute waster. We sent him 5 emails over the course of two weeks and even telephoned on 2 occasions. All we required was a voucher to by food in HIS PUB!! God I must be such an idiot that I expected some good old fashion customer service!!!

Came here for a family lunch with cousins. The food was all very nice but the desserts took a very long time to arrive. The desserts were all cold so no excuses with preparation time and the pub wasn't busy either. Overall a nice pub with good food. Would go again . We had lamb rump and colc chocolate fudge cake

Visited this little gem of a place to meet up with some old friends .. where do I begin ... PERFECT. Friendly service and excellent food. Although they serve good food they have also kept the old pub atmosphere so can still call in for drinks at the bar. Numerous flavoured gins... was in my element Will definitely be visiting again.

This has become a regular pub for us since our move to West Malling earlier in the year. Lovely atmosphere, polite, friendly staff, good beer (I recommend the 'Twickenham Naked Ladies') and a really nice garden area with a beer barrel of water for dogs.

We went on both the Saturday and Sunday to the beer festival with friends, they had a great selection of food including vegan options and a huge range of ales beers and ciders. It was busy and full but there was plenty of staff so no hanging around. All afternoon and evening they had different live music to suit the time of day and it made for a very relaxing weekend. It will be on the calendar for next year. Thankyou to all of you at the Duke.

Haven’t been to this pub for a while, and I’d forgotten how nice it was , I had lunch there, sat outside in a beautiful pub garden , in a idyllic village, service and food was fantastic, had Welsh rarebit, haven’t seen that on a menu for years , and can recommend the Elton mess as well ......and all very reasonably priced,..

I am a bit bemused by all the positive reviews for this place, indeed one look at my bio and you'll see that I more often than not review positively and constructively, not here though.

Had a lovely meal here tonight, but the only thing that put us off was a loud local who was shouting loudly about politics and playing tones on his phone constantly whilst we were trying to talk and enjoy our meal. He wasn’t just disturbing our meal the table beside us mentioned it also. In fact we didn’t stay for dessert because of it!

Went with partner and parents, good beer and a number of gins to choose from. But the food was very disappointing on a saturday evening, no flavour and felt like it had all been put in the microwave, sad as is a nice pub

We have just had a lovely afternoon tea here. Catering for 13, we had fantastic food, service and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend.

Four of us ate there midweek and really enjoyed the food, couldn't fault anything and the staff were good.

Amazingly friendly and attentive staff and delicious food highlight the afternoon tea at this beautiful village restaurant. We had a choice of teas, sandwiches, scones, cake and a strawberry posset.... all delicious and accompanied by Prosecco! I warmly recommend The Duke of Wellington.

Our walking group pre-booked their lunch and when we walked in we were told it would be ready as soon as we had settled in. The meals was tastyt, with a large choice and enjoyed by all. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

We had a great time at the Easter Egg hunt. Amazing treasure hunt and walk around the village searching for clues, so much fun!! Well done Luisa for organising this, as well as the prizes, activities and food!!!

We came to this pub after a long walk from a campsite with lots of small children. It was our saving grace! The food was perfect, the garden area was lovely and the hospitality was amazing.

Went here for the annual Easter egg hunt and had a fantastic time. Fabulous food and lovely relaxed atmosphere. Great place - will definitely be revisiting.

We'd driven past this pub a number of times but only booked a meal there recently. It was mentioned by one of the library borrowers who I deliver books to, as their son manages it. We really enjoyed the ambience. I had moules, frites and bread. Huge portions. My husband had to help me out as he had finished his dinner - curried monkfish - well before me. We will definitely be going again.....probably before our next anniversary

We had such a fabulous time at the Easter Egg Hunt. A beautiful walk around the village on a treasure hunt which the children and adults loved! The kids were entertained, surrounded by their friends, decorating eggs and so much chocolate!

Pleasant friendly pub with lovely staff serving. Great atmosphere. Nice decor. Visited with friends. Food was excellent. I had roast lamb, generous with meat and portions. Fab roast spuds, just like you have at home. My husband had chicken and ham pie and he said it was really tasty. That’s my meal sorted on next visit. A friend had burger, all home made and looked delicious. Good selection of beers and gin!

This pub was recommended to us and I must say, what a fantastic village pub with friendly locals and great bar staff.

We went to the Duke for an Easter egg hunt on Saturday 20th April. Assuming it would be an egg hunt in the garden we were very pleasantly surprised to hear it was actually an organised walk with clues around the village! We came back to a buffet and an Easter egg for each of the children!! Fun!!

Wonderful roast, good quality food. Friendly efficient staff, managed by nice couple who can't do enough to make you feel welcome. Lovely pub with pretty garden.

We visited the Duke of Wellington for the Easter Egg treasure hunt on Saturday. It was such a fun family day out exploring around the village and then relaxing at the pub. The kids absolutely loved all the questions in the hunt, the eggs and activities that kept them entertained.

On Saturday we attended the Easter Egg Hunt. Fabulous event, well organised and plenty of activities for the kids including arts and crafts, colouring and the Easter egg treasure hunt around the village. Food was lovely and lots of fab prizes in the raffle. Good family day out!

This place is everything you imagine of when thinking of a British pub. With a pedigree going back to 1516 the Duke of Wellington is well wortha visit

Having visited this pub/restaurant before I know the food is good. My daughter asked for a family meal so I gave her a selection of places to go locally, where the food is good. She picked here as she’s quite fussy but liked various items from the menu.

Went for dinner with an elderly relative on a Thursday when the resident live band was playing. We made sure we dined early enough to watch the bank too. Ordered the tapas as a starter then main courses and it was all AMAZING. One of the best meals out I have had for a long time and excellent value. Drinks are reasonably priced and the staff made suggestions which were accepted.

Fantastic atmosphere friendly staff and wonderful food. Would happily recommend the Mediterranean vegetable lasagne.
