Ordered nibbles followed by mains. Chorizo snacks weren’t available and olives never did arrive. Hardly surprising as we had 4 different girls tending our table. Weren’t told that certain dishes were unavailable when menus handed to us. So, I ordered the fish pie and was told there was none left. Such a ‘no no’ in any good restaurant. Admittedly, the food was very good. However, we weren’t asked, at any point, if we were enjoying/enjoyed our meal. We wouldn’t pay the 12.5% service charge but left a 10% cash tip for the service that was only just acceptable. Because of this, I expected to see the manager but, as we left, there was no sign of him/her.

We went to this pub to try the daily inclusive menu advertised on the Web. When we ordered we were told it was only a la carte today! No mention of this on the Web although the waitress said there was. The food was mediocre, my flat steak was pretty tasteless. The chips were good! The chairs very stained and we were very disappointed overall. We will not be returning

We were visiting the lodges next door for the weekend and arrived early, so headed here for some drinks. Lovely welcome, great selection of drinks and our two dogs were more than welcomed in too! The menu looked great so we booked a table for Sunday lunch. With me as a vegan and my other half not it was good to see different options for both of us. The whipped mushroom parfait was absolutely delightful as a starter! I had the veggie Wellington, made vegan. It was fine and I’ve certainly had worse. My only issue was there was an overwhelming taste of lemon from the Wellington and for £18.50….49p less than the full lamb roast, I felt my portion size was slightly unreasonable as a comparison in cost. Chuck some more veg on etc and I’d have been much happier paying that price for a roast that costs you much less to make with no meat or Yorkshire pudding etc. Overall a really nice little pub with nice food. Great kid’s play area in the garden and dogs welcome.

Disappointed. The roast 2 had was poor but the rest was good. If you serve bad food and someone complains, to charge the full price and offer a coffee as an apology isn't on. That's bad. Also - a coffee that probably cost you 20p is a farce.

We’ve visited the Duke on many occasions over the past 9 years while staying regularly at the lodge retreat nearby.. the staff are lovely and always very welcoming and friendly. The locally brewed beer is superb and the pub/garden is very well kept, clean and inviting. Unfortunately the standard of the food has dropped considerably during the last few years.. the high prices do not reflect the quality and quantity of the food served… it really seems to be hit and miss here when dining unfortunately… some days we all enjoy our meals and other days we leave disappointed. Hopefully things will improve as the location is beautiful and the staff are great!

Food was OK, quite expensive for what it was. No mention of chefs specials, although I read about them in other reviews? Pub felt a bit musty, maybe need to deep clean carpets and the water marked/stained and ripped chairs, table was also a bit sticky. We booked a table for 4:15, arrived at about 4, told that was fine. We were seated near the loos inside, so we asked to move over to a booth table on the other side, but couldn't because it was “fully booked”. We were there for approx 1.5 hours, no one arrived to take that seat or many others which sat empty in the same area, so we didn't understand why we couldn't have that table. We weren't sure if table service or self order at bar as no one told us.. waited a little while and then went to make our own order at the bar.

The garden was almost empty and we ordered drinks and lunch. The chicken flatbread and chips had an amazing description on the menu but was basically some cold slimy chicken thigh with a salad of cucumber, spring onion, chilli and mayo on a hard cold flatbread. There was none of the mentioned onions, pomegranate etc. Frozen mass produced chips. The staff were pleasant and the DJ very good and was trying his best to create an atmosphere. This is a Grosvenor Pub and we have been to others in the chain that were excellent. Drinks seemed overpriced too. We won’t be returning. Such a shame it is in an area that you would expect better.

Pretty bad experience. Kids chicken burger was inedible - dry cooked bit (very small strip) of tough chicken resembling Gandhi’s flip flop and a bland mush of Mac n cheese. Our meals were average+ in terms of quality but overpriced. Wine terrible. Ordered an extra peppercorn sauce that never turned up - asked for it to be removed from our bill. It was a shambles. Staff doing their best but a room full of dissatisfied customers. Nice kids playground but not as good as it looks on the website. Won’t be back

Gone downhill. Our first visit for a couple of years but probably our last. Things have gone downhill regarding food in that time - this used to be a great place to eat and for just shy of £100 for 2 x 2 courses and a couple of drinks I'd expect it to still be that way. A first course of flatbreads was more like cold pizza. The nduja topping had very little taste and certainly no kick to it that I would expect. The burger was no better - the bun and salad etc was fine but the burger itself was straight out of MacDonalds. The only saving grace were the triple cooked chips but there were too few of them to save the dish.

First of all I must say that the staff were delightful and really helpful. The location is lovely although just off the road it rural. And if you have kids there is a nice playground set back behind the car park. But I totally agree with the other reviewer, the chicken Caesar Salad is awful. Literally a whole Romaine lettuce cut in half horizontally with sauce and cheese etc on top and chicken on the side. Who wants to battle with half a large lettuce, aside of the top heart leaves it is nothing but plain lettuce underneath. Even a rabbit would struggle. As The Duke of Cambridge appears to be part of the Red Mist Leisure group pubs, I checked out the menu at group pub, The Stag in Eashing and seems they have a very similar Caesar Salad on the menu. So presumably its not the chef's brainchild but the management trying to be ultra clever with "de-constructed" food across the group menus This simply doesn't work with a Caesar salad and I hope they have a re-think. We sent ours back as unacceptable. There was no quibbling whatsoever. What a waste. We chose instead the Nduja chicken which was sourdough with heritage tomato Bocconcini (like mini mozzarellas) tomato mascarpone sauce. It was more acceptable but the sourdough was extremely soggy and the whole thing lacked taste. White wine spritzer with tonic £10!!! Unlikely we will re-visit.

Had the Blue Cheese tart starter which was ok not very cheesy. For the main being Sunday thought I’d have the sirloin Sunday roast quite expensive at £21.95 and being honest it was disappointing two slices of sirloin beef which were fine, roast potatoes never easy to do on an all day opening I know, were not very good. Veg of roasted whole carrots and cabbage which wasn’t much veg and a Yorkshire pudding and gravy which I as always asked for more as my plate was dry. Dessert was nice coconut brûlée. Have eaten here before and was good and I know it has a good reputation, but last Sunday was disappointing and expensive for what it was.

As the title summarises, my mum usually eats a meal in a pub, seems reasonably happy and then, on the way home tells you all the things she didn’t like. But not this time! And with good reason- the food was excellent, really good quality, hot, came at the same time, realistic portion size (neither tiny nor massive). My partner was thrilled to have a variety of gluten free options - even the puds! Not just the usual boring chocolate brownies! The chef has obviously sussed you can make gluten free stuff everyone can eat.Staff were very friendly and helpful. Very tastefully decorated and warm atmosphere.Only moan; if you read the key on the menu you see there’s GF in grey, which means it’s GF, but if it’s in red it means it’s adaptable - but if you don’t study the key you could order something with gluten by accident. I’d suggest changing it to ‘A’ for adaptable.

Went to the pub for lunch as we'd seen ok reviews. Staff were nice, greeting was friendly but the burger was average (at best) and the my partner said the pie was poor (and left more than half).Couple of bits I didn't like.. There was an unleashed dog in the pub next to us and trying to eat while hearing the owners asking the dog to come back was annoying and the continual 'shlop' of hearing the dog drink wasn't relaxing.ISome might be ok with very animal friendly pubs but I am less so and I am not sure this relaxed atmosphere to roaming dogs is particularly clear for you to be able to make the choice (i.e. If we'd have known, we'd not have gone)It was also a touch off putting that the staff stroked the dog and then you saw them handling plates etc (I am not saying they didn't wash their hands but I don't know they did either so, as someone seeing a dog being stroked and your food brought over with their fingers on the plates, it sets you on edge). Not worth the £40+ for 2 meals and 2 drinksWon't be returning

Had a meal here this week with my father; he enjoyed the duck special and I devoured the half chicken and chips. Only letdown was the obvious forgotten dessert order - my brownie arrived about 10 minutes too late and my father's crumble looked like it had been prepared by Aunt Bessie (if you know what I mean...). I've since heard on the grapevine that said desserts were more than likely prepared by a newbie 'chef' (I use this term very loosely) - my advice? If they can't get a microwave brownie right, then maybe they shouldn't be in the kitchen ... oh and the ice cream was the wrong flavour too. Oops. Also at a hefty £7.50 each, should there really be any room allowed for error...? Waiting staff were great though.

Main downside was our desserts (ice cream) took about 40mins to arrive despite waiting staff coming over numerous times and when it finally arrived was half melted. Bit if a sour end to an otherwise decent lunch and to be fair they did comp the ice cream but would rather pay for it and not have the bad experience really.

I was initially attracted to the pub because of its outdoor seating areas so we booked for an outside lunch and last minute due to this brilliantly bad summer we are experiencing decided to request an indoor table but mostly because we had a 6 month old baby in tow which I informed the guy on the phone about when making the change. We were shown to a super little room with plenty of space for the pram and all that goes with babies. My husband is a coeliac but he was able to choose ANYTHING on the menu. This is very rare still for some reason. Why can't all restaurants provide such clear menus and Gluten Free adapted food in the same way and to such a high standard? We will be booking again.......soon.

Really impressed! Lovely outdoor seating area. Good choice of food and specials. I had the halloumi chips to start and in my view if you don't choose these you'll have food envy of anyone who does! The rest of the table shared a mezze platter which was very good and easily enough for 3.Mains were 2x steaks (very good), chicken supreme and the flame-grilled smoked bacon loin - like the poshest 'ham, egg 'n chips you've ever had'... so, so good - but so filling I couldn't possibly manage a dessert... which was a shame as I'm assured the pavlova and brownie were delicious!Topped off by excellent service & banter from Joe our waiter!Great food, lovely setting and reasonable prices... would definitely come back next time we're in the area!

We were able to sit under the covered area, a perfect table. Our server was really helpful and the specials menu looked very inviting. We were all famished and the fish platter, Asian fishcakes and trio of roasts were so plentiful we had a job to eat it all. Clearly the new Head Chef knew exactly what to feature on the menu. I'd definitely recommend this lovely country pub and look forward to eating there again soon. Always book a table and arrive in good time, it's very popular and gets busy.

We booked a table for 12pm for 7 of us to celebrate a birthday. Our waiter was very friendly, the restaurant was lovely and the food came out in good time. We didn't have to wait long even though it was a Saturday afternoon. The food was really lovely, we ordered from the main menu but It's so lovely that there is an option of bar/grill service in the seperate garden area. Theres also a lovely play park for the children to play on too. We can't wait to come back again.

Incredibly attentive staff on what was a very busy day, which was appreciated. There are a couple of vegan options which we had both and they were equally delicious. It’s very easy for vegan meals to be an oversight but you could see that a lot of time and effort had gone into choosing these, we’ll be back!

Terrific location, COVID measures in place, along with friendly and helpful staff, although I think that there may have been some specials that were not mentioned.I was surprised when our ‘while you wait’ orders arrived with our starters but all were hot and tasty.7 out of 9 from our party very much enjoyed their main courses but unfortunately my wife and I had ordered fillet steaks. When they arrived they both looked rather anaemic with no crust or colour to them yet somehow they were both overcooked. We sent them back and wisely my wife changed her order and had a very nice burger instead. However I stuck with the steak only for the second steak to arrive again looking a little anaemic and slightly less overcooked but not as expected. At this point I gave up trying and my wife and I ate our mains, including a rather watery peppercorn sauce with the steak, whilst the rest of the table had already finished their mains.I did mention my disappointment to the waitress and the manager came over immediately and kindly offered to remove my steak from the bill. All of the servers managed my concerns in a polite and professional manner. As a group we still very much enjoyed our visit.Would we go back? Absolutely yes but I don’t think that I would be ordering steak.Sent from my iPad

Family of four plus a dog - a great venue. We had drinks in the garden bar while the kids played in the playground. Then transferred to the terrace for a two course meal with coffees. The staff looked after us well, bringing water for the dog unprompted. We were offered more drinks in good time - something that seems to happen less and less at the moment. The food was excellent, with a good range of options. Very much recommended.

We go to Red Mist pubs for lunch regularly and the Duke of Cambridge is probably our favourite but sadly it didn't quite meet expectations on this visit. The samphire accompanying my salmon was tough and stringy and I couldn't eat it - pur server said she would mention it to the chef but we didn't get any further feedback. We also realised after we had got ourselves and our dog settled that the table we had been allocated should have had a glass top and the remaining surface was springy making it rather alarming balancing our glasses - I was glad I hadn't ordered my usual large top-heavy glass of red wine. Sorry DofC - we will be back though as this was only one poor experience out of probably getting on for fifty visits to Red Mist pubs so not typical at all.

The waitress was extremely accommodating and very polite. The food however was very mediocre! We ordered the platter. White bait was under cooked ( not crispy). The salmon looked and tasted as if had been sitting in a fridge for several days ( not fresh). The chicken terrine was greasy and fortunately a very thin sliver hidden under some old lettuce leaves. I always think the ladies toilets are a good sign of a well looked after establishment, these were disappointing. Very old carpet in a toilet is not hygienic and old toilets make them smelly. They need refurbishing! Sorry but we won’t be going again.

We were staying at the Tilford lodges just a stones throw away from the Duke of Cambridge. We booked a table for 19:00 on Sunday 18th July and we were greeted warmly on arrival. Although our table wasn’t quite ready it was great to be told of this immediately instead of having to stand around waiting for someone to acknowledge us. Food was of excellent quality and the service / waiting staff were very attentive and friendly. The restaurant was also very busy which is also a good sign and we weren’t disappointed. There is also a very good little play park for kids to enjoy on the premises as well.

We have visited and eaten at The Duke of Cambridge many times including a New Years Eve event a couple of years ago.. Which has always been most enjoyable - I visited as a guest of my niece last evening (and unfortunately on my recommendation) for supper and really did not enjoy the experience at all I think the staff might benefit from some customer service and menu training and the food was disappointingly poor. We do visit other pubs in the Red Mist Leisure Group from time to time and you can normally guarantee a great experience but sadly not on occasion

First trip to The Duke of Cambridge for me but not the boyfriend, whose birthday we had lunch for and glad I finally stopped by! The service was lovely and the food was excellent. The halloumi fries were a great portion size and cooked very well, not obnoxiously chewy like they can be at some places. The summer platter was delicious, I actually couldn’t finish it because it was deceptively filling! My boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed the battered prawns which were juicy and huge. He also enjoyed the duck for his main which was also cooked perfectly. If I could have drunk a gallon of the elderflower fizz, I would have but I do have a sweet tooth! Would definitely recommend stopping in if you’re in the area. There’s an abundance of parking and the atmosphere was very relaxed. Would be very happy to visit again.

This was our second visit. This time because of the worsening covid situation we opted to sit outside in the covered area. Again, as happened on our last visit a few weeks ago, the staff didn't seem to be expecting us, and my husband had to stand around for several minutes before being given any attention. The gentleman then went off to see where we were supposed to be sitting even though we said we had booked for an outside covered area. We were then seated by the open doors on what was quite a chilly July evening. About an hour later, when a neighbouring table had asked for some heating to be put on, we were asked if we would like some heat too. The service was quite slow, although the restaurant didn't appear too busy. We ordered our 4 drinks, but several minutes later the waiter re-appeared and asked us to repeat the order as he had forgotten one of the drinks. Why didn't he write it down? The food order was quite long in coming too, but was very nice. We had no salt on the table, as on our last visit, but when we asked for some the waiter brought a salt pot, whereas before we were given sachets of salt and pepper - much safer in a covid environment. When we came to pay, we had hoped to use a Red Mist voucher that I ha earned by signing up to the website. However, we were unsure how to use it, and just had a reference number on my husband's phone. We showed it to the waitress, she seemed unsure too, and asked if she could take my husband's phone to show her manager. Again not in a covid situation, and not safe in any situation to give a stranger your phone! The manager came and he didn't seem to know how the vouchers worked either, so I said to leave it, and we would sort it out next time. I think we have now worked out how the vouchers can be redeemed. However, before we paid, the sides of the covered area were pulled down, which meant we no longer sitting in a covered area, but in effect indoors. My husband was quite concerned, but as we were almost ready to go, we decided to let it go.Last time we came, in June, we felt much more covid secure, but this time we din't feel that the stafff were making such an effort. The sign said that everyone should scan the NHS trace QR scan, but only my husband did so, and there was no reaction from the staff.Overall, although the food was good, we were quite disappointed.

Prices are on the high side, ie £15 to £20 per adult main, but the food is nowhere near that level. Picture Gordon Ramsey (Kitchen Nightmares or similar) telling whoever the head chef currently is being told he's out of a job for being pretentious and not very good.Nice location. M’eh food. Stupid prices.Oh, and as far as the kids menu is concerned, it gets worse. Two of mine were given a plate that consisted of this, having ordered “Char-grilled chicken breast taco”:chipsa wrap (as opposed to a taco), which had:fried / microwaved and unseasoned aka tasteless chicken bitsa slice of tomatosome lettuceSeven quid. For that garbage. I’m all in favour of profit but the cost price of that is sub one quid.My kids refused to eat it and I didn’t blame them. Of the adults, three out of five didn’t eat their food either. Reasons being inedible, greasy, tasteless, etc.Never been before, would never go back. Not least because of the £120 bill for 5 adults and 2 kids, who had a main course and a drink each. The drinks are served cold. Well done for that. Service took forever. Waiter was friendly.

Nice location and pub is lovely. The staff are very helpful and friendly (Kate our server was brilliant and the supervisor who helped me choose my wine!) However the food was average. It didn't taste freshly made in-house, the burger and lamb koftas in particular. And the salad that came with the koftas seemed to have spearmint (or similar) in it so it tasted like toothpaste! As this was a birthday meal I was a little dissappointed but the food didn't ruin my evening, it was still a lovely evening just pretty average food.

Visited here for first time. Pleasant surroundings. Unfortunately staff explained they could not produce any of the cooked menu and took a very long time to produce cool hot drinks. I can understand that they were young and stressed, but they mixed up my coffee serving me with milk instead of a non milk alternative. Luckily I am non IGE allergic, so no anaphylaxis, just illness, but if otherwise it could be a very serious outcome. Sorry I'm having to post this, but I wouldn't like someone to suffer a life threatening scenario.

Brasserie Blanclocation-icon5 Castle StreetOther cuisines

This is an elegy for a good restaurant that is no more, Brasserie Blanc having ceased here on 3rd February 2019. I have dined here before, but not with such relief as was the case last time! For reasons I won't go into here, I dashed into the restaurant in a state of near panic. All was calm and organised, and I was told we (six of us) could be accommodated in about an hour and a half if we wanted to sit downstairs, or in 10 minutes if we'd give them time to lay up a table upstairs. Et voilà! we had a private room, with a charming waitress for whom nothing was too much trouble. The meal was delicious, and quite up to the standard one would expect from a similar establishment in France. It is a shame that they've now closed, but there r now even better reasons for going down to Winchester, or Gun Wharf Quays in Portsmouth….
