Amazing Sunday lunch, really impressed with the vegan options - not often you find a vegan roast!! The staff were soo absolutely kind and attentive, they didn’t have problems when asked for the history of the pub and about their gluten free options. Will definitely be back!

Excellent food and fantastic service, incredibly nice staff, especially the lovely young lady who didn’t bat an eyelid when the birthday boy asked for a packet of pork scratchings for dessert! We had such a lovely afternoon and after lunch sat in the Beer Garden - a perfect day and we’ll be back

We walked in hoping we would get a table for 6, we was seated down straight away and asked for our drink order. Staff seemed busy but they was all still very attentive and polite. The roasts was lovely, could’ve done with some extra gravy served on the side but we all walked out very happy and very full. The chocolates we received with our bill was a special touch! We will definitely be returning, thank you again for fitting us in such short notice!!

We booked a table of 9 several days prior to our visit as it was a special occasion saying goodbye to members of our family returning to Australia after their holiday with us. Once seated we all ordered drinks and were given the menus. After some time the waitress approached and told us that there were problems in the kitchen which meant that items had been removed from the menus. When we were given a menu with almost everything crossed out we couldn’t stay and decided to leave. Totally unacceptable. No real reason or explanation given and was left to the young embarrassed staff to deal with us. No money off our drinks to compensate us- nothing just embarrassment. We hurriedly booked a table at the Black Lion in Lynsted who accommodated us all at short notice. We will never return here, Lynsted you have our heart and our custom from here on in.

We booked a table at the Dover Castle to celebrate my Mum’s 60th birthday, as she’d visited previously and liked their food. We came away disappointed. The service was crazily slow throughout our visit, which was ridiculous considering we were the only table on the place for half of our visit - our roast dinners eventually came out; our beef was grey and tough with a lot of hard fat, but the other elements of the roast were nice and it was a big portion. Portions sizes were a little inconsistent, as 2 of us had beef pie and mash and their portions were much smaller than the roasts. They were both men and could have eaten it twice. We then waited a long time for them to clear the plates and bring the dessert menu - they eventually came and took our order. We ordered some banoffee pie, Eton mess and cheesecake - we were later told the cheesecake was sold out, and that there was no whipped cream for the banoffee pie (we assumed this meant that there was no cream to have on the side of the banoffee pie). We opted for clotted cream instead of whipped cream - when it came out, the “banoffee pie” was a lump of biscuit base, with some caramel, banana and a blob of clotted cream on top - so what they originally meant is that the banoffee pie was not even complete. They served my 81 year old Nan an Eton mess with no cream, and a lump of ice cream on top instead. This was difficult for her to eat, so they swapped it into a bowl and added some clotted cream and some luminous red syrup on top. As the desserts left a lot to be desired, a member of staff did come over and confirmed that they’d be removing the cost of the desserts from our bill which was kind of them. We then had to get up twice to remind them to come and collect our dessert plates, and then again to bring us our bill. When we received our bill, they’d added on a chicken burger meal to our bill which none of us had? So then the waitress had to go off again for another 10 minutes or so to remove that. When she came back over, the waitress said “oh are you all paying separately? That will be fun” - a bit sarcastic given our visit there was hardly fun. The service needs a lot of improvement - maybe somebody a bit older with a bit more experience. The waitresses were just chatting amongst themselves at the bar, and were just so unaware. They needed to be far more attentive and proactive, we were having to micromanage them on how to actually do their job to get through service. Overall it was just a disappointing visit, especially for my mum’s special birthday celebration. I was embarrassed that we’d chosen to celebrate with her there and had such a bad experience.

We have been coming here as a family for a lot of years and we were so disappointed by the menu change and food today ..shame

Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. Staff were friendly with a great attitude, despite being busy on a Monday evening. Chicken burger's went down a treat on our table. We will definitely be returning soon!

Came to the Dover castle for drinks and asked for an espresso martini and a beer. Staff seemed annoyed at the request of a cocktail. They also apparently had never made one before. The first cocktail was very nice but when asking for the second it was only filled half full and I was made to feel like I shouldn’t have asked for it to be full. Overall nice drinks just shame about customer service.

Don’t waste your time the food has changed and isn’t nowhere near what it was over priced for what is on offer ok to have a drink but food is a let down which is a shame limited menu and just nothing to go wow about cheaper places out there the place used to be hard to get in and always full turned up and it was dead which says it all

A few years ago my whole family were regular visitors to The Dover Castle Inn, but - as I’m sure other locals would agree - it has been up and down the past few years as the pub has changed hands, then changed hands again, and again (I think, anyway!) After a particularly terrible Sunday lunch a couple of years ago we didn’t return, and this meal out was our first visit in quite a long time. Service was very attentive and friendly, and the food was excellent. Very tasty with a varied menu. Pleasantly surprised to see some Asian-inspired options available - the bang bang cauliflower was great! The only feedback I’d give is that the regular menu could do with some more Vegetarian/Vegan options, although the specials had plenty. Overall a brilliant experience and we’ll definitely be visiting again. It did seem quiet for dinner time on a weekend when we visited, so if anyone is hesitant due to the relatively checkered recent history, I’d encourage you to go!

We went for a family Sunday roast and I’ve got to say very we were very disappointed in the food. The roast beef was tough and at least two of the meals were only luke warm. We did tell the staff and they were apologetic and gave us two more roasts, but the meat still wasn’t great. The staff did take the cost of the deserts off of our bill as an apology but overall a disappointing meal. I will say the waiters and waitresses were very helpful and polite.

We were greeted very warmly on arrival and seated in the restaurant very quickly. We asked to move to a more cosy table for 5 of us, and it wasn't a problem. The menu isn't huge, and very limited if you're vegetarian, but what we had was great. The fish on the fish & chips was huge, covering the length of the plate, batter was crispy and the chips were fluffy inside. The ribs were also a generous size, but I expected that for the price. The ravioli looked a bit small next to the other large plates, but it was tasty and filling. Sticky pudding and custard was also good. Service was great, Christian and our waiter were very friendly and attentive. Will definitely return when the menu is expanded. My only negative is that the lights on the slope between the car parks weren't on, which made it a bit difficult to negotiate our way out on a dark, rainy evening.

My friends and I visited for Sunday lunch, the pub was nice & cosy and the staff were friendly. I had the plant based roast, it consisted of 1 x plant fillet, 4 small potatoes, cabbage, swede & carrot mash and a few green beans. It was nicely presented but the portion was tiny. My friends all had much larger meals and were full and content, unfortunately I left a little disappointed.

My friends and I really enjoyed ourselves at the pub. The customer service was amazing, they were very friendly and caring. The food was tasteful and enjoyable, however they could add more choices, to suit other people's dietary requirements. Our server was Amiee.

A really lovely meal and friendly efficient service. After being ripped off in a different local pub (I expect to pay a bit more while more staff are needed to serve and pubs are trying to recoup losses) I came to The Dover Castle after recommendation from friends who had been post lock down. I had fish and chips and it was excellent fresh soft fish in a crisp batter plenty of big fat chips and a side of peas with a lovely tartare sauce. We shared a side of onion rings which where also lovely not oily and again a great portion size. My friend had the crispy chicken burger and said it was delicious. Service was friendly attentive, the staff where all lovely. The puddings looked amazing but I was too stuffed. Will definitely return everything was clean and organised.

This country pub in Teynham was actually the last place we visited for a meal out back in November 2020 and it has basically been shut since then, for one lockdown or another, so it was nice to be able to go back and enjoy the food once again. Outdoor seating only, so a bit of a risk given the changeable weather in Kent, but we decided to take a risk and go for it.The welcome was friendly and we got a nice sheltered table and beers arriving shortly after we sat down. Food choice here is always good and so, on this occasion, I opted for a cheesy garlic flatbread, followed by a cheeseburger. The bread was lovely and the burger was fantastic – plump and fresh with lovely extras. The cone of chips was a nice touch on the side. Come the end of the meal I opted to go for the banoffee pie for pudding – wouldn’t normally but the puddings here are so good. This one was no exception, a huge piece of creamy, homemade, banoffee pie with cream and strawberries on top. So good!Will be back here in a few weeks hopefully, when we can go indoors again, for a family meal and then, hopefully, many times more over the summer! Definitely worth a visit.

Booked a table for four at this pub in Teynham on what turned out to be the final day of trading before an enforced period of lockdown – since this is Kent, the pub hasn’t reopened as yet since that day. Booking was smooth and we were shown to our table promptly on arriving – the place was very busy with people enjoying a last opportunity to eat excellent food with their family and friends. Had actually been here two or three times previously in the previous few months and always find this place to be a nice experience – the food is really wholesome and the portions are a good size. The service is friendly and there is a really good choice of different food on the menu. My partner and I ordered the sharing platter to start – this is like a mini-feast comprising breaded mushrooms, filo prawns, chicken wings, mozzarella sticks and mini stuffed potato skins – all of this was lovely and came with a nice trio of dips – the blue cheese was particularly good! One member of our party ordered the nachos as a vegan option (so no cheese or sour cream) – I thought it was a nice touch that the cheese and sour cream still came to table, but in separate bowls so the other members of the party could use them instead – I’m never going to turn down a bowl of melty cheese to dip things in! Opted for the fish and chips as a main – the fish was beautiful cooked and the batter was crisp. Also the portion of chips was really generous – beautiful main. My partner had the chicken salad – there must have been a least a couple of chicken breasts included in that – not one for salad myself, but even I thought that looked fantastic! Pudding was a revelation – figured since it would be our last meal out for a while I’d throw caution to the wind and go for the brownie sundae. This was absolutely gorgeous – a huge potion of ice cream with brownie pieces, topped by a massive whip of cream. May have been slightly bigger than normal due to closure the next day but was really generous. Will definitely be coming back here – indeed, would have gone back the next week if I’d been able to

Really not sure what the fuss is all about to be frank. Was recommended here by friends, so decided to check it out. Ordered an open sausage sandwich, which was one slice of bread, not two.... just the one piece with sausages, onions and a heap of peashoots and salad with a sprinkle of crisps. Literally about 10. Desserts were great in fairness, nicely presented and tasted good. But the service was horrendous. The girl looked very vacant, uninterested at every point weather it be clearing plates, taking payment or just any general opportunity to interact with customers. Everything seemed an inconvenience to her. I didn’t catch her name, but she had sword and knifes tattooed on her arm? Another young girl with glasses seemed more attentive and bubbly. But our server just looked like she couldn’t be bothered. I would of mentioned something at the time, but she was so rude and unapproachable, plus we had waited 20minutes to have our payments taken, and we all had to go back to our own restaurants to work!

Back once again to the Dover Castle for a meal – I’ve been trying to get a table here for some time but always seem to miss out, which just goes to show how popular this place has been recently! Anyhow, having successfully booked we thought we’d try something special on this occasion and opted for the sharing platter to start our meal – this is a lovely slate board packed with different flavours – tempura prawns, mozzarella sticks, breadsticks, breaded mushrooms, BBQ chicken wings and mini potato skins filled with cheese and bacon – all accompanied by a trio of dips. I must admit, I was a bit worried this would be too much for two of us but the portioning was spot on and all of the food tasted excellent – the creamy dip (possibly blue cheese) was particularly good!For a main this time, I opted for the ham, egg and chips – a classic and rightly so. The ham was thick and plentiful, whilst the eggs were runny with golden yolks. A beautiful meal. My partner opted for the chicken salad, which he has described as one of the best in town and had on multiple occasions – this I will take his word on, for I do not eat salad…No pudding this time, but service was excellent and beers and other drinks were delivered in good time, along with the food. Atmosphere in the restaurant was good, with a number of parties dining out that evening and clearly enjoying their meals. As always, a recommended visit if in the area.

As always a great atmosphere, great staff and as usual the food was beautiful! Pate starter followed by the steak and ale suet pudding, was delicious, one of our favourite places to dine so will definitely be back very soon!

6 Of us went here as a family treat to celebrate one of our daughters results. The food was great and the staff very good. Even in these times of Covid they had everything covered. Well done Dover Castle we will be back.
