The Dirty Onion in Lisburn

A fun spot to visit while in Dublin, weird inside/outside vibe but surprisingly not too cold once in there, but I did keep my coat on. Great atmosphere! Went on Wednesday night where there was a great chap singing, the Chap singing on Friday had some great songs but not sure about his voice/sound quality of his voice.

Fantastic atmosphere and the band playing some country music was fantastic. Really good age range and mixed demographics. Highly recommend

Attended the venue for a work event and a young man threw a glass of whiskey over the crowd, hitting many of my colleagues in the face. When a junior member of my team reported this to the bouncers he was told ‘don’t tell us how to do our job’ and proceeded to carry him out of the bar despite him not raising his voice or being aggressive. In contrast the young man who threw the drink was allowed to remain. Judging by other reviews, it appears this bar has issues with its in-house bouncers. We will not be returning for future conventions.

We ate here after seeing it recommended on Instagram and weee not disappointed. The place itself is quirky and was very busy (we got the last walk in table). The staff were friendly but not too much, the food was beaut and suited both of our pallets (one of us LOVES spice, the other not so much). Chips were like chippy chips but fries - Devine! Afterwards, we went downstairs and enjoyed the live music. Highly recommend visit!

We went in as local people from Belfast who were here on a night out and got rejected from the back bar for no reasons and one of our friends was in a head lock from one of your bald bouncers who is an awful person who needs to be fired. His authority has gone to his head. Like most bouncers in this establishment as per usual. I will not be back and will take my business elsewhere like the national. If you are a tourist go to the national or harp bar or the Duke of York over the dirty onion please. Fund your money to anyone else please

Disappointed with food & the “emptiness” of character in the upstairs restaurant. Views were amazing but the room had no ambience. Food was poor! My buttermilk chicken “batter” was mush. Chips were grey! Husband’s honey chilli chicken was on a bed of angel hair pasta that was impossible to eat or cut. I expected better food but our choices were more comparable to Wetherspoons & Brewers fayre. Bar downstairs had great ambience & we enjoyed a drink there.

A fantastic spot. We went in during the afternoon for a drink, and enjoyed the choice of drinks and the atmosphere. We returned later on in the evening and again enjoyed ourselves, thanks in no small part to the live music. Really seemed a fantastic spot at anytime of the day!

Still the best pub to be in for St Patrick’s day in Belfast. The yardbird still good for food as always. Just missing cocktails

The chicken may not have met my Asian flavor standards, but the vibrant atmosphere ensures a memorable visit, highlighting the beauty of culinary exploration.

Très bon endroit pour aller boire un verre à Belfast. Musique live et équipe très sympathique. À ne pas rater si vous passez par là !

Visited here during a stag weekend on a Saturday night. Absolutely packed and a chore to get to the bar and be served but the atmosphere was great. Lots of friendly people and staff. Good choice of drinks on offer. Well worth a visit but be prepared to stand.

Packed bar with an energetic and well fueled young crowd. Takes some jockeying to get to front of bar for drinks, but most are in good humor.

As a tourist in lovely Belfast for many a year, arrive at this establishment at 13:30 and to be told can’t let you in with a tracksuit on is laughable!!! Not as if I looked like I fell out an Armani catalogue but I’m wasn’t a tramp, your rules are very idiotic and need updated to 2023 in an afternoon…… not Friday at 9pm !!!

We found this place by accident and wern't sure what to expect, we made the trek upstairs and were delightfully suprised. Great vibe, friendly staff and the food was good. Stay far away, my sister got bought shots for her birthday from a group of lads and she got removed for stealing drinks’ although she was buying the lads drinks. 4 bouncers came over as though she was some kind of theif and told her to leave out the back door with her. Visited last week on a break to Belfast. What a fabulous place. Original beams and really old floors. Nothing at all fancy about it. Loved it. Lovely atmosphere. The food was lovely - they only serve chicken but with lovely side orders. The bar is downstairs is huge and with the same decor. Really relaxing space, with lovely old tables and tin chairs. Also dog friendly. Everywhere including toilets was spotless. There were Bodhran lessons going on with lovely irish music. Definitely my kind of place. Would highly recommend a visit here.

Downstairs is the bar, the Dirty Onion. Great little bar, slightly grungy but great atmosphere and good vibe to the place. The forecourt / courtyard had heaters but on warmer months would be fantastic. The live music was only enjoyed briefly but was great. Upstairs the Yardbird restaurant has a great but limited menu of ribs , corn, dry rubbed chicken , slaw and wings etc etc . Basic but fabulous. Chicken was cooked to perfection. Enjoyed the place.

Having a genuinely lovely night. 12:30 am so no one expected absolute silence. Myself and my friend started to sing Liverpool FC songs (nothing inappropriate) and the bar lady came out with very insulting language to tell us to ‘shut it’. I am pregnant and this same bar woman questioned this so called pregnancy. Claiming I was making it up. Completely insulted and disgusted at her arrogance. Fabulous place but very poor staff.

Push your way through a large open yard with a number of serving areas. At the very back find your way up to the Yard Bird. It seems a bit rough but it is. Chicken is served from open flame cooking. All tastes great with great selection of bear. If it's not in the restaurant then go down to the yard below, you're sure to find something you like.

We queued to get in the Dirty Onion. We were refused entry. I really don't know why, so we asked the security, who couldn't give us a reason. They just explained that they don't have to let anyone in that they dont want to. I explained that could come across as unfair in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 as there was no obvious reason for refusal. I asked the name of the security who actually refused to give us his details. As all SIA licence holders have a security licence this should not have proved a problem, however he refused to give us his details and passed us on to the 'Manager' who also had no ID. On talking to the 'Manager' other customers walked into the establishment smoking cannabis. The Management was not interested. Enough said.

This place is a must if you are in Belfast and want a drink. They have live music and the crowd it great. The crowd really is a mix of ages so anyone could fit in. It does get really busy so get there early.
