Arrived around 19.00 and was seated very promptly by a waitress. Ordered chicken curry and a pint of juice. The food and drink arrived pretty quickly,Two tourists besides me asked for directions to the bogside and to book a table for 20.00. A few minutes later a sign was slammed on my table without any explanation, telling me I had to leave as the table was pre-booked for 20.00.This is in no way good service and I will ensure the tourists on my tours will not darken the door off this establishment.

My mother, brother and I chose to have dinner here on our first night in Derry as it was close to where we were staying and very convenient. This turned out to be a great decision that resulted in a return visit the next evening. Not only did the establishment provide a welcoming atmosphere, but so too did the staff. Particularly Michael, Bridgeen, Frank and Pierce who went out of their way to ensure everything was to our satisfaction. Our meals consisted of garlic & cheese bread for a starter, as well as chilli chicken pasta, rump steak, fish and chips, a chilli chicken pitta, a beef and bacon burger and chicken burger. Each of these were served in minimal time and were tasty and very filling.

Went to this location numerous times before it changed hands. Decided to see what it was like now. Went up last friday lunch time (7/7/17) ordered fish chips and a pint of orchard thieves. Cost £13:50, was a bit surprised at this but just thought the beer i choose was more that i thought it would be. Didn't get a reciept but that isn't usual for a lot of food/drink outlets. Went to my table and looked at the menu - cod £7.95 with free side (ie chips) and pint of orchard thieves £3.30. It should have £11.25 - just must have mistakenly charged for the free side (cost for extra sides £2.25). Said to the guy that delivered food and he side to speak to the manager. Spoke to manager and he asked me what till and person took the order. He looked at the order and found that i was only charged "£11.25" so £2.25 wasn't accounted for. Nothing could be done about it - didn't make a scene but vowed never to go this chain again. Food is okay but even if you don't pay £13.50 this meal would have previously cost you around £8.00 on a friday with the old provider. Eat here if you want but check the menu before you order and always ask for a receipt.

The last time I was here, this was a Wetherspoon's bar. Now it isn't. Apparently it has reopened. I'm not exactly sure what they have done to the place, because it looks exactly (and I do mean exactly) the same to me. However, we decided to stay and eat. We were up on a daytrip from Belfast. The first thing that struck me was the abysmally depressing music. A selection of covers and acoustic versions of some of the most uninspiring music that I have heard for a long time. The place was pretty much empty as well so that didn't help with the atmosphere. The menu is now pared-down, to be polite. I went for the chicken curry option which looked to be a good choice. I went to the bar to order for us and the barman was miserable and disinterested but he took the order so I suppose that is all that mattered. The food took a while to come and, when it did arrive, it pushed all the buttons that I need to be irked by it before I'd even tasted it. I don't know whether it is me (and I am not going to allow this bit to colour my review) but it drives me mad when food comes on a plate but not on a plate. You know what I mean, every component is in a different recepticle - a mock chip pan with the chips in , a bowl for rice, a wooden chopping board for a steak, a stone slab for the salad - that kind of thing. Use the plate! That is what it was made for!So, here it was, the curry in a mocked up balti dish, the rice in a ceramic bowl, the chips in another bowl and the naan bread the only thing on the actual plate. Utterly ridiculous.I proceeded to decant all the components onto the plate so that I could actually eat it! The chips were fabulous, thich and home made tasting. Really good. The rice was fine and the naan bread was warm and fairly fresh. So far so good. The curry, of course, was the main act and was very disappointing. Plenty of it, plenty of chicken. It was the sauce that was the problem: more a very mildly spiced, watery gravy really. Not what I would call a curry. The chicken was cooked OK but the distinct lack of taste the main reason for my dismay. There are no dessert options here now, so I can't really comment there. We left and walked out into an afternoon as grey and depressing as the Diamond. Lunch isn't meant to be like this.

We chose this place to eat because it was lieterally a 2 minute walk from where we were staying and we fancied some pub grub.Firstly the people who rate this place lowly are probably going in expecting Michelin star food. The place won't win any fancy awards for the food but for what it was (a wetherspoons pub) the food was so reasonably priced and was really enjoyable comfort type food. For the 3 of us getting meal, 2 hugs of cocktails and a soft drink it only cost £30. When it came to deserts there was good choice. They were approximately £3.50 each or 4 for £10 so we got greedy and chose the 4. The staff were very helpful, courteous and pleasant. Having browsed the multi choice menu for some minutes, I approached the bar to place my order, when I noticed a card displaying the special of the day. Could not believe what I was reading, a 14oz rump steak, with trimmings for just £6.99, value or what? Having apprised my wife of the special, I subsequently ordered two servings. The meal arrived timely and was well presented, see photo, my wife was well chuffed. To compliment the meal, I had a pint of Guinness and my wife a large Pinot Grigio. The meal was second to none the steak cooked as we had requested, absolutely delicious. In sum, excellent food, great value, total cost £20.47, served in very pleasant and friendly surroundings. Highly recommended.PGH

The staff are what makes this a very pleasant place to visit, in all the years we have been coming here never ever met an unpleasant staff member, the management take a very active part in the running of this pub and it pays off.We may not be here for weeks at a time but the sane friendly reception when we do finally arrive back.

To go into a pub/restaurant and be served an excellent meal in under 20 minutes is a wonderful experience and not one I have often enjoyed. The staff were so friendly and efficient, nothing was too much trouble. The food was well cooked, fresh and very tasty.I have had poor experiences in Wetherspoon pubs in England but this restored my faith in pub grub

Like a lot of other bars this place could do with money spent on it However the staff are very attentive & friendly. The place is kept as clean as possible, given the age of the fixtures & fittings and the food is very good as are the bar prices.

I have eaten here on numerous occasions, and have enjoyed many nice meals, HOWEVER, i have never received a full portion of chips or veg. I have also eaten in many other Weatherspoons and can say categorically that this problem is peculiar to only this pub. Recently the Craft beer fad has taken hold also, this meant that unfortunately most the ales have also gone up in price, Abbots ale from £1.50 to £2.15 in one go, which is a ridiculous price hike which ever way you look at it. The prices are generally very good for the drinks, BUT the meager portions of all items that are not provided in pre-made portions to the kitchen undermines both the the good value and customer goodwill. I had fish and chips and there were 11 chips once! So to summarize, don't go in the evening if you like to sit in a calm family atmosphere as the cheap drink very often attracts the wrong sort of business, and it can get really rough!! the drinks selection is very good, the food also, but there needs to be more vegetarian and gluten free stuff. great value but it's undermined by stingy management in this particular bar. good service and fast. In Stroke city yesterday, for the 3rd Saturday in a row, and I finally got to The Diamond, having used Austins as a good excuse for leaving the Foyleside Centre.I am warming more and more to the London/Derry people of recent btw.Anyway despite the inevitable pub smell, spacious and a most welcoming feel, unfortunately we were unable to get a desirable snug seat opposite the bar, but that merely gives me an excuse to return.I switched my food order to the "special" Cod and Chips 'n mushy peas at £2.99, SM had her usual Ham 'n Eggs, Mum merely had a slice of carrot cake. The Cod appeared to be fresh prepared in the kitchen, i.e I could not see how it was a frozen "pre-prep" due to the sheer quality of both the fish and the fresh batter.Ham 'n Eggs excellent as always. The only let down was the somewhat undersized piece of carrot cake, and the "bog standard" tea, still no Earl Gray, sigh, though I was amused to observe Wetherspoon's management had paid heed to a previous review of mine and had a sign up stating "you now get more chips"My good cheer was perhaps a little influenced by the 2 perfect pints of Ale, a Forty Niner apertif, then a Twisted Hop by Hildens to wash down the Cod.Simply2 of the best pints of beer I have ever enjoyed. With exactly the right amount of good simple food.Man needs no more.PSVery friendly helpful staff.PPSMy mother reckons "they" must have moved Austins store, since she last visited Derry (she is now in her eighties mind!)Marcus

We have been coming here for years and have got to know most of the staff, this restaurant is very well managed and as a result is always consistent in its quality.Usually it is only tea and toast for us but we sometimes take advantage of the two meals deal on offer, food is always good here give it a go you will not be disappointed.

Had lunch here when on a recent holiday and it happened to be a Thursday which is Curry Day. Meal was delicious and economical. The bar was really busy and service good. Located right in the heart of the City with 2 floors. Sat upstairs getting great view which added to the ambience. Spent a good hour or so relaxing and enjoying the vibe. Would definitely recommend .

We visited Derry for Halloween and ate here twice. Dinner and drinks on the Friday night was very reasonable and the food was tasty. The man who served us was friendly and helpful. We went back on Sunday morning for breakfast and again the food was good and service was fast and friendly. Only gripe was smell of stale beer and dirty table but will definitely visit again.

Wanting somewhere in town and reasonable, where else but the good old standby - JDWs. Being at the top of Bishops Street opposite the Diamond memorial is easy for people to meet up. We all had different choices and a few beers so a good night was had by all. Better decor than many other JDWs and will use again when in Derry.

Food is not the best (2/10), but 10/10 for being open on a Tuesday night. Large spacious venue if you're a big group...two floors so plenty of tables.

Went for Sunday lunch whilst attending a car show and was bowled over by the value and portion sizes. Four Sunday lunches (2 adults & 2 kids) including drinks was only 21 pounds which I thought was excellent. The food was good and we had a lovely view of the Diamond and the city from the first floor eating area.

Call into The Diamond which belongs to jd wetherspoons Londonderry. It was our first visit as we were out on Bank holiday Monday. It was Mexican Monday. The price of the drinks being unbelievable and it far cheaper buying a bottle if wine or doubles if you are drinking spirits. The decor is very good along with the seating and they have an extensive menu if you don't want the Mexican. It is only £5.99 with an alcoholic drink or £4.99 with a soft drink. You order your order for food at the bar after giving your table number. It come in no time at all and is well presented and hot. The staff are very friendly as I have discovered in all JD'S. I would have no hesitation in recommending this bar to anyone

We had their 8 oz sirloin steak dinner and beer. It was nicely cooked (rare to medium rare) and quite tasty. The atmosphere left a bit to be desired. e had to clean our own table and go to the bar to order and pay in advance. However, the food was good and they delivered it to the table. The price was good. Not a bad pub.
