The Devonshire Arms in North East Derbyshire

Food amazing! A large group of us were booked in for Sunday lunch. We had starters, mains and pudding, everything came out quickly and hot. My partner had the mushrooms starter and I had the duck spring rolls. Mains we had the meat platter for 2, the best beef I've ever tasted! Melted in your mouth, and was very surprised how tender the chunky gammon was with a lovely honey taste. Portions plentiful, not the cheapest but worth every penny. Cant wait to go back

First visit to the Devonshire Arms last night, absolutely blown away. The service was brilliant, such friendly and attentive staff, Danielle and Chloe were particularly helpful. The food was amazing, melt in the mouth beef in both the curry and pie, piping hot food and lovey atmosphere. Heard about this place for a while and so pleased we made the trip as it’s only 10 mins from Halfway, new local!

A great Sunday lunch, not the cheapest but probably one of the best. Jute by Salt on draft too, my lucky day.

Visited here for the first time for my 30th birthday, the place was very highly recommended, the serving staff were amazing and very polite the restaurant was clean and modern , the starters were fabulous and very tasty… then the mains come and it just went downhill from there, the meat was cold, sirloin steak was supposed to be medium-rare and came out well done, we sent one plate back and the others didn’t want there food re heating. £14 each for a salad with some hard and dry chicken/salmon, we got both mixed grills knocked off the price but at over £200 for 6 of us with the mixed grills knocked off I personally wouldn’t pay that again for a meal especially when you can get food of same standard from nearby food chains. Such a shame as I’d always been highly recommended the place by several people. Hopefully it’s just an off day. Unfortunately it wasn’t a great experience for my 30th birthday surprise meal. Thank you to the serving staff though they were amazing and truly deserve the praise.

Me and my partner decided to spend lunch together at this restaurant, a first for us, during the bank holiday weekend 2024 and were very glad we did. We were first met by Charley, one of the waitresses who showed us to our table and took our order. After a relaxing drink we were then supported with the help from another waitress, Cat, and throughout the whole service were left feeling very well looked after. The two ladies were very friendly and professional and besides a slight hick up on the order which was very quickly rectified, we were very satisfied with both the service and the food we received. The food was provided by an open kitchen in full view of all the diners and was produced very efficiently. As for the food, the quality and taste were excellent the chefs did themselves proud! The premises were very pleasant and warming and epitomized a very lovely, country pub and restaurant which was very clean and it was clearly well maintained and looked after. By the way, I am disabled with mobility issues and if that wasn't enough, I'm also vegetarian but that did not matter as we were accommodated and looked after in all areas. The only thing I would say is that the prices were not the cheapest. We would love to return on a regular basis as we really enjoyed it however we can only consider this for more of 'the odd or special occasion' rather than regularly which is a shame. Nevertheless, I would certainly recommend the restaurant as I believe it to one of those 'Special' places to go. Thanks everyone at the Devonshire Arms ... we will see you again! J & L.

A return visit for what is now becoming a venue of choice and reference for an informal business catch up with one of my suppliers. From the minute we walked in you are made to feel welcome, drinks order followed by breakfast order placed and everything delivered with a smile. Breakfasts were divine cooked to perfection and the quality of the produce evident in every bite. Regular but not pushy checks were made to ensure we had everything we needed or required more drinks. We moved to the bar area to carry on our meeting and were shown plug sockets of we required them for laptops and offered water etc. Every time I visit the staff known to me or otherwise always make myself and my guests feel as though you are the most important customer that has ever walked through the door and that is appreciated and priceless

Everything about the Devonshire Arms exudes quality - quality food, quality staff and quality ambiance! Great selection on the menu and always beautifully presented and cooked. The waiting staff strike just the right balance of being nicely attentive and friendly. You pay a little more but it’s worth every penny. We’ve never had a bad experience at the Devonshire Arms and would highly recommend it!

Had a fabulous Sunday roast here, celebrating my special birthday with all my family, had a private room could select our own music. Staff were absolutely great, friendly flexible and professional, could not have been better thank you all at the Devonshire Arms xx

Was bought a voucher for Christmas and finally got round to using it. Atmosphere is lovely. Typical upmarket village gastro pub. Had olives and pork crackling to start and both were delicious a d fair priced. I had an Indian burger for main. Was big. I actually had to use a knife and fork to eat it (oh the humanity!) but the flavours were so well balanced. My wife had the vegan burger (with extra bacon and cheese... Im not even lying, she doesn't eat beef) and said it was one of the tastiest burgers she'd ever had. The deserts were a sticky toffee pudding and a cornflake tart with pink custard. Both were out of this world indulgent. Kids meal was great too. Will absolutely return

Enjoyed lunch with my husband, little boy and baby. Staff very welcoming. Very family friendly with colouring and great little play area just outside. Great choice of wine and beers. Food arrived promptly and was absolute delicious. We had picante pizza with salt and chilli chips, Greek hanging kebab and children’s sausages and chips. My little boy was over the moon with his ice cream. It’s was our 1st visit but won’t be our last!

Simple and very well cooked pub food, excellent service throught with a large group of friends one Saturday lunchtime afterwhich we stayed the night. The pub had a good selection of real ale beers all produced locally.

Excellent stay at the Devonshire Arms including dinner & breakfast Room was spacious (Whitley Neil Room) with high standard of furnishings, exceptionally clean and nice little touches too many to mention. Felt like a really good premium room. Dinner was excellent, one of the best burgers i've had (weekly special-with Brisket). Good choice of drinks and exceptional friendly 'family style' service. Breakfast was also fab, not rushed, again very good service. Would we go back? Most definitely.

Wow from start to finish. Arrived for a lovely Valentine’s meal. Chose from the Valentine’s specials menu. Have eaten from the standard menu on previous visits and have always been pleased with the selection and quality. We wanted to go for something interesting, a break from the norm. The sharing platters for starters and main were so good! The South America sharing board, chimmichurri steak kebab, chorizo empanadas and prawn arepas. The seafood sharing platter, lobster croquette, prawn pil pil, roast scallops with pata negra. They were absolutely delicious! Every bite was an explosion of flavour. The steak was melt in the mouth! The scallops were to die for. Served with focaccia to mop up all those delicious sauces. All perfectly proportioned to allow room for the desserts. Obviously had to try both the chocolate churros and the strawberry and champagne panna cotta. This place is a hidden gem. We return time after time for a culinary treat. Never disappoints! Thank you for tastebud tingling experience! We will be back!

No room at the inn !! No problem We arrived for our daughters 21st thinking we had booked a table for 6. Sorry sir we don’t have you reserved. Confused I became and realised our own fault we had reserved for a different restaurant with the same name ! The staff could t have been any friendly and more sympathetic and although the welcoming and lovely looking pub was full the wonderful staff raised to the occasion and not only managed to find us a table they found us a table in private dining room which made the occasion even more special The food was excellent and matched the staff friendliness and attention to detail. Called in for the first time today and was shown into the Stag restaurant. We both had a full English breakfast. "the full montey". Very well presented ample and reasonably priced.. They make the BEST halloumi burger! And even give you the option to order an extra halloumi which of course I did! Double halloumi burger! 🙌 Fries were very nicely seasoned and crispy. 10/10! We visited on Thursday 14th December. Delicious food, lovely decor, we did have an extremely long wait for our drinks to arrive (over half an hour) so we thought we'd have just as long if not more for our food but we were pleasantly surprised. I had chips and fish, the fish was absolutely delicious, we'll try it again, I'm hoping the drinks will be faster next time.

Decided to try the Breakfast for a treat. Ordered a belly buster breakfast and we had a veggie breakfast to.. The meat was excellent as we're the poached eggs however I ordered extra toast and the white bread used was very under whelming especially for a £1 a slice.. Beans were not very warm but that could of been me leaving them to the end.. The veggie meal was a similar price to a meat breakfast and they forgot the egg on the main plate at first... however the menu stated 2 eggs but we didn't realise until we had left.. Very good venue and great service.. We did however over hear a bit of conversational blue language from the kitchen whilst eating, not a problem for us but maybe others.. So very good food with the 2 breakfasts costing £30.50 including drinks..Our opinion was it was a tadge pricey for what you get but cooked to perfection...

Stayed overnight Friday 15th Dec . Can't praise the place enough. Staff in the restaurant (booked for the festive menu) and bar were on the ball. Live entertainment in the bar was great and got everyone in a real Christmas party mood. Our room was Masons (every room is named for a brand of gin )The room was immaculate with every need catered for. Being at the front, we had beautiful views over open countryside. Breakfast was tasty and very filling. Set us up for the day. Will definitely be back. Thanks for a thoroughly enjoyable stay, Devonshire Arms.

Second year we have visited for the Christmas lunch. Absolutely great. Loads of turkey, fresh vegetables and all the usual trimmings. For dessert, my husband had the Christmas pudding with brandy sauce which he said ‘was delicious!’ I had the Amaretto Chocolate tart which was also delicious.

Had an excellent meal and overnight stay here . The food was beautifully cooked- not your usual mass produced pub fare. The place was filled to the rafters as there was a band playing, but the service was second to none. We were never left waiting between courses, and drinks were brought to the table. The rooms were furnished to high spec with a mini fridge and tea/ coffee making facilities. Lovely extra touches and even a room Alexa and wireless charger. Will definitely be back

We had our 6th over night stay at The Devonshire Arms and it was as fantastic as all the others. We continue coming back because of the relaxed, fun atmosphere, fantastic food, service and the beautifully decorated and clean bedrooms. We simply cannot fault it! The food again was wonderful and I must admit, despite how busy it was, did not impact on the attentiveness of staff. Thankyou again for a great stay! We will be back next year.

Sadly I feel this place has gone a little downhill since the last time I came. Came with my friend for a Sunday roast and the service was quite slow - felt asif the larger parties around us were getting looked after more. We sat and waited for our plates to be cleared for ages after we had finished. The food was pretty average. Dry chicken and fatty pork with the tiniest bit of stuffing. Hardly any cheese on the cauliflower cheese. I came here a year ago with my family and the food and service was so much better :(

Only went to the restaurant for a Sunday roast. The food was nice but the portions were a little small. What ruined it was the service. We had booked a table for 8 people but was given a table that would only just fit 6 people on it. There were a few spare tables so we asked if one could be added to ours or if there was a bigger table somewhere else and was told quite rudely that we aren't allowed to add a table or even another chair to our table. Once we had ordered food no one then came and checked on us for drinks and we had to go up and ask for the bill ourselves

Had a really lovely meal here with friends. Good options for children and fabulous quite food. I can highly recommend the Mixed Grill. Dogs welcomed in the bar area too.

A 5* rating well deserved and worth a 6 even. A 2 night break on full board. The pub being mainly a restaurant but with a nice bar a seating for both. Staying with friends who had been there 4times before and adored it. Well the service from ALL staff was impeccable. That went from cleaners to breakfast ladies, bar staff and restaurant staff... interestingly, they all looked happy which made our stay even more as special. The food was excellent quality, and menu to cater for all. Great local beers, we stopped at 13. Our room was as good as any 5* hotel room we've been in and cleaned to an inch of it's life. Special thanks to Kirsty for going above and beyond with her helpfulness also to Alison who also helped us. It's very popular and now we understand why. Locally there's tons to do to get that appetite ready for the meals. Booking again for next spring. Fab
