The Dell Cafe in Isle of Wight

Service was particularly bad today. A new eaitrose with pink hair was oblivious to guests waiting to be served. It was clear Management was not present. Also the menu has changed again. Preferred the winter menu

Very underwhelmed by the welcome - chap writing out the specials board as we entered didn’t even acknowledge us - so we went and sat down at a vacant table. After waiting nearly 10 mins we were asked if we’d like to order - at which stage we hadn’t even been offered a menu! Chap flung a drinks menu at us and we resorted to going to look in the cabinet to find out what cakes were on offer. Order finally given and another 10 mins passed before the coffee & cake x 4 arrived. Our order was placed on a tray on the counter, right under the noses of customers waiting to pay, where it stayed for a good three/four minutes - before being brought to us. Unhygienic?? Wont be going back.

A really great location on the beach, with helpful staff, however, food pricing was found to be at the top end of the market i.e. for fairly average food quality / quantity (Full English Breakfast). Since my visit, I have.checked out nearby competition (x2) and found their pricing to be much more competitive / realistic (35% less) Sadly, this will be my first and last visit to the Dell Cafe for now :-( Foot Note: The Dell Cake's website has not been updated since 2020 and the prices shown are some 40% lower than current actual charges, also, the single male/female customer toilet facility is very tiny and could do with some TLC...

Almost missed this little gem. A friend told us about a great cafe on puckpool beach and after dropping into a near by cafe and not being inspired we decided to stroll along the beach and that’s when we found the Dell tucked away at the end of the bay with great views of the Solent. Very impressed by the menu, Original and imaginative with a couple of vegan options for me and vegitarian options for my partner, which were obviously as well thought out as there other item and not just some baught in afterthought and I greatly appreciate it! I had a mushroom and cashew cheese Ruben which was delicious and my partner had the halloumi and mushroom burger with chips which she thoroughly enjoyed. Service was fast coffee and good. I noticed they also have a licence for a small bar. Also dog friendly and considering there location is a no brainer. My only very minor gripe would be the music was slightly to loud. And if I brought my parents here they may find it an issue but all in all we’ll definitely be back. Went way above what you’d expect from a small seaside cafe

You have to wait to be seated and is the worst part of the experience, getting an acknowledgement that staff know you are waiting is almost impossible even when they are quiet, food is good and service is friendly but so laid back it's almost horizontal. I know the Island is stuck in the 50s but sometimes I feel like shouting 'am I invisible ' when at this place.

Lovely little gem with peaceful views. Great cakes and super friendly staff. Sat outside with our dogs who were also welcome. A very enjoyable experience.

We ended up here after having walked the length of the prom. We really only wanted a drink as it was too early for lunch but I spotted that they served crab sandwiches and really fancied one. I was told that was on the lunch menu which hadn't started yet but the lovely waiter went and asked the chef who very kindly did one for me. It was delicious and gluten free too. Thank you.

Stopped off for lunch as we live in Ryde and our first choice was closed unfortunately. Wasn't overly keen as found the service lacking in the past, but my partner and son both like it here and to be fair the breakfast's are good. Whilst my partner was in conversation with our waiter the owners interrupted her to bark orders at the waiter. Didn't say 'excuse me' or any kind of apology for cutting her off. I would of walked them but my partner didn't want to make a fuss so we took the table on offer, which was still dirty from the previous customers by the way, My partner had the moules which looked fabulous and she said they were delicious and my son had a chicken burger which he said was decent. I tried a dish from the daily specials which think was supposed to be a courgette and sweetcorn type of rosti or fritter. Mine was lukewarm and underdone in my opinion. Didn't finish it and none of the staff bothered to ask if there was anything wrong with the dish. When we came to pay the owner stood over my partner and told her service wasn't included and gave his thoughts on how much she should tip! Unbelievable. Then to top it off started to clear the table whilst my son was still eating. Noticed that his attitude is very different to regular customers whom he fawns over and obviously thought we were tourists who wouldn't be return customers. Well he did get that right at least! Would avoid if you want to be treated with any sense of civility.

On arrival at the café we had to wait to be seated, then we were asked if we were "only having a coffee,in a presumptive way,we actually wanted lunch. We were then told lunch was not available until 12.00, it was five to. We were then grudgingly shown to a table, food arrived quite quickly, and was quite good,but with such a poor welcome I would give it a miss.

We visited Dell's Cafe through this summer as it is such a special place. The location is amazing, the staff are friendly and endlessly helpful and the food (coffee, rock cakes, breakfast, brunch, supper) is always delicious. It does get busy in the summer but just need to sit back, relax and enjoy the view!

Went here with some friends for a drink and brush. Having been given a table, we asked where to order and they said it's table service. Drinks were ordered but took well over 15 minutes to come out which is a while for two coffee and a tea. Ordered food, I ordered poached eggs on toast. Again took some time to come out. The eggs were stone cold, the toast was cold and rock solid. Clearly had been sat waiting to be taken out. A little later after finishing we asked for the bill. Again took several minutes to come out. Overall the service was very slow, and my food was stone cold. Only awarding a 3 as my friends said their food was nice.

Walked up to the dell from Appley park. They obviously didn’t like the look of us and instantly reserved all the tables and even refused us a take away coffee because they were suddenly “too busy” Shocking!

When I visit my Daughter and Granddaughters, I love to go to the Dell Cafe, (the last time I spent £94.00 - 12 April 23). However, we have always received short tempered, very poor, troubled, unfriendly service by what seem like unhappy staff. Every time we come here. I complained yesterday about the lack of service and being totally ignored, so unacceptable that after wasting 30 minutes we got up from our table. The staff were not at all interested in us, looking away, 'rushed off their feet' - when they were not, so I left, devestated, screaming "I couldn't get served". We know it is best to book so we rang the Cafe yesterday at 11.30 but were told 'fully booked'. We had our meal elsewhere. Later we walked from Ryde to the cafe hoping we could have a table to just have drinks and the girls could have their favourite 'luxury milk shakes'. Oh dear, everything seemed too much trouble - there were plenty of unreserved empty tables available! We thought 'forget it', but we sat being totally ignored by every member of staff while we played trying to avoid being stung by wasps, as we continued watching the staff rushing around with 'I hate doing this job' look on their faces. Why is this happening? I plan to revisit The Dell Cafe tomorrow and I know 'how busy they get' and that 'it's best to book in advance' but I want to see some improvement here. To the customer they could do better and give us a super experience. Look where we are! The staff, I certainly feel they should do much better!!

Fortunately our local friends had booked this (we were five in total, plus dogs), it was really busy and we can understand why, what a stunning location overlooking the water. As it was busy the service wasn't speedy but that was fine with us, we enjoyed some rose and chose from main and specials menu, my fish from the latter was stunning. There was no full dessert menu but we saw the local ice creams and had to dive it, oh yes, delicious
