Poor service unfriendly management. At late hours during the York Rise stret party on September 8th the management was unaccomandating. I will in future be taking my business elsewhere. The Robin in Crouch Hill has a superb manager Nick with a very friendly environment. Yours Sincerely Simon Grosvenor

The ambiance and decor is lovely and food is delicious albeit not a huge choice. Disappointing the vegetarian options : only 2 dishes in the whole menu. In the evening we visited the choice was a pumpkin soup for a starter and a butternut squash stew for a main course… if you don’t like pumpkins you could only eat the polenta fries. A pity they don’t seem to care for vegetarians: an easy simple and unpretentious plant burger with fries would have been a good option to offer, a staple of most pubs these days, I don’t understand why this pub is so reluctant to put it on the menu!

Was served by a brilliant and extremely attentive employee called Iain. Upon arrival we explained my mother was visually impaired to which they immediately put us on a table that made acssess to toilets and the bar extremely easy and accessible. The service was outstanding with constant check backs and extreme attention to the care shown towards us. Could not have wished for better service and care from a restaurant. Ian the manager was amazing with us helped explain the menu made sure we had enough drinks and the food was simply to die for wether your in the area or just in London for the day it should be at the top of your bucket list. Once again thank you to Ian and the rest of the staff couldn’t have asked for a better afternoon. Beyond satisfied and happy.

Spent nice afternoon in the pub and had 2 bottles of wine. Was delicious. Once finished we asked for the bill. The bill the barperson gave us was for just 1 bottle of wine. We immediately informed them they were wrong. Her response was not grateful, she went away and came back with the correct bill but not a word of thanks for the honesty. We then said we'd split it 3 ways by card. She asked how much that was each. We didn't use a calculator but guessed at a round figure. She didn't check that and just charged us that amount each. We got up to leave and she came back to say we hadn't paid enough.... wait for it..."You're 10p short". Yes, 10p. At this point i stressed would it not be decent to perhaps let us off the 10p as we'd been honest and saved them a £25+ error. She said no. I had a 10p coin in my pocket so handed that to her. She said they cannot take cash. So i had to do an additional 10p card payment. Not a thank you, not a sorry. Just attitude. This is bad. Any half decent business would have discounted the 2nd bottle price at the very least, in return for our honesty. Nice looking pub in a good location. SHAME.

Lots of seating both inside and outside. Food here is really something you shouldn’t miss out on. The chefs offer a very interesting Scandinavian twist on some classics. Also give the dining menu a chance - great dishes most of which you probably wouldn’t expect at a pub.

We visited for lunch on Election Day. There were two family groups with babies in the large back room, so we chose a quiet table in the room near to the road. It was a pleasant enough place for a light lunch. I ordered one of the few serious dishes on offer, Linguini with Clams (£12.95). This was very tasty with a good number of clams and an interesting sauce. My wife and son were happy with their Chicken Sandwich (£7.50) and chips, and a dish based on a large Yorkshire pudding (£7.00). My 'guest ale' was the real stuff (£4 a pint) and served at the correct temperature.

A welcome bottle of tap water and glases were brought to our table as we were about to sit down, so there was no need to ask for some. For the meal I chose the veg shepherd's pie - absolutely delicious and I'm still raving about it. My friends had the fish and both said it was lovely. Empty plates proved that. Overall a lovely atmosphere, friendly, helpful staff. We we sat chatting sometime after our meal and without needing to ask, our bottled water was removed and replaced with a new one. The nut loaf veggie option was liked by my wife who can be very fussy....The Eton mess was well....a mess but the 3 berry tart was excellent...maybe homemade but unlikely...it was that good. Pretty empty at 2pm on Sunday so may be the bad reviews are taking its toll but hey it's Forest Hill so cut it some slack.4 people x 2 courses plus coffees and beers for 78 pounds so excellent value for money.Oh and service was with a smile and faultless:-)

Went to The Dartmouth Arms recently for a birthday meal and the experience was terrible. We had booked a large table in person earlier in the week and were told there would be a new menu for the bank holiday weekend. When we arrived for our 8pm booking we found our reserved table had been given to another party and were told to sit somewhere else. We were then told the kitchen would close at 9pm which was news to us, and when we explained we had a large party with some people joining later this was met with a shrug. However, we ordered the food, mostly choosing the pie option as it was previously a good choice. Not any more - tasted like reheated cheap supermarket pie with chewy pastry. Two friends who ordered at 8.30 and 8.50 were then told they would not get any food. Outrageous! The bar staff then told us the chef was not prepared to make anything else so our friends would go hungry and there would be no pudding for the party. I asked to speak to the manager and was told they were not there - for a busy bank holiday Saturday with a new menu this was not impressive. In the end (and after I almost had to beg) the bar staff went to the kitchen and rustled up some OK nachos and chips for our friends, and gave us a 50% discount on the meal. We appreciated this but the poor service and attitude of the staff had really affected the evening and we left swiftly - it wasn't even 10pm. Generally the pub seems to have become very complacent and short-sighted, presenting itself as a gastro option without the tasty food or good service to back it up (but still with hefty prices). We will never go back. Avoid!

Just has a 'that'll do' attitude now.I also object to the music...I don't want to hear coldplay or massive attack..... dated and naff. My girlfriend and I have visited the Dartmouth Arms twice in the last month. The first time was for a Sunday Roast, which was pricey (around £12) considering the below average quality of the food (soggy, chewy crackling… ugh). The second time was for dinner on a Monday evening - the restaurant was half empty yet from ordering our main meals to service took around 45 minutes. There were two couples that were seated after us yet received their main meals before us with no apology or explanation offered. The food wasn't much better than the service - I had a Chorizo risotto that was definitely the wrong side of the bland/subtle line, however the grilled halloumi skewers were nice and saved the place from a 1/5 review.I think the Dartmouth Arms is trying hard to be a Gastropub but it’s falling well short. If the menu were a bit cheaper and the service better I'd be inclined to be a little more forgiving but if they're charging £12+ for a main course, I'd expect the quality of the food to be better than the Wetherspoons up the road.

The staff didn't even come and check if everything was okay with the food, and collected our plates a good two hours after we had eaten, by which time I couldn't be bothered to raise the issue of the horror roast. I think it depends where you regularly eat but this is one of the best pubs in that part of south east London for both food and atmosphere. Service has always been good and the beer is well kept. The food is cheap and you can certainly get 2 courses for 2 and a bottle of wine for less than £50.Generally they have several slightly different bar snacks - dipping breads and various cheeses and meats on a platter for less than £10. Free wi-fi is always a plus and as several people have said its less than 1 min walk from the tube station. Jump the tube, go to The Hob (large pub opposite the train station) for comedy nights and then to the Dartmouth for food/drinks.Note most days it becomes a creche for the local toddler group??!? who tend not to look after the kids whilst they drink water and natter. Stick to going in the evening.

I first discovered this place about a year ago and had several good meals, however went back recently and it was awful! The lamb shank (at £12+) came with frozen mixed veg and gravy that was obviously bisto or similar. "Spring onion mash" was normal big standard mash with a few slices of onion on the top, and the Eton mess had about 3 strawberries in the whole thing, just a massive bowl of cream really. The staff seemed unconcerned and the service was pretty shoddy. None of the food was completely inedible, but for the prices it was all disappointing. We used to go here quite a bit and for some reason left a long hiatus before going back, so I was really looking forward to the great standard I remember. I'm not sure if this has been taken over by someone new or has just grown a bit stale, but I was not impressed. The dining room at the back of the pub is light and airy, but does have an odd feel about it. I didn't feel that we were really far enough away from other diners and the tables are arranged a little strangely. The really irritating thing about the place is that the windows above the smoking terrace let the second hand cigarette smoke waft in and permeate the dining room. Not the most pleasant smell to accompany lunch! We went on a Sunday, and the only option is a roast with either pork, beef, chicken or nut roast. This was fine, we were in the mood for a roast (luckily!) and it's usually a good sign that a menu is limited. The format was the same whatever you ordered - a yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots and cabbage with gravy. It was not brilliant - in fact it was a little tired. I enjoyed the parsnip, but the pork was not a brilliant piece of meat, not a generous portion and grey. The yorkshire pudding wasn't too bad, but the roast potatoes weren't crispy and overall it was disappointing. I decided to have a cup of coffee afterwards and asked hopefully for skimmed milk. They didn't have any (which is not so unusual), but they didn't have any semi skimmed either. They only serve whole milk, even though the waiter admitted that most customers asked for at least semi skimmed. He suggested an off licence just up the road may sell skimmed milk, so I left the table in a surreal move and went to try and buy some drinkable milk for my coffee. The off licence was closed and I declined the whole milk (and the whole coffee).

The service was fine, friendly and helpful, the venue is also fine. The problem was the food...we went for the Sunday roasts. My friends slow cooked lamb was grey, it may have been slow cooked, but it hadn't been anywhere near any herbs, garlic or wine etc. I had the roast chicken, this may have been fine, before it had been reheated in the microwave, but by the time it came to me it was hard as stone and burnt. The Yorkshire puddings were flat, more an omelette or pancake, really inexcusable. The tiny teaspoon of cabbage was boiled to grey, the carrots were boiled and possibly frozen, the roast parsnips were soggy and the potatoes pale and soggy too.Apple crumble (apple from a tin i suspect) and tinned custard was like the one you had at school. My friends ha sticky toffee pudding, which tasted like a pre packaged frozen desert.I really wanted to like this place as it looks nice from outside and is a local, but it was not even as good as school dinners.

DO NOT DO THE BOTTOMLESS BRUNCH! If I could give this place no stars I would. The service, attitude of the staff and the food and drink were diabolical. We booked a bottomless brunch for a hen do, to which half of the food menu was not available at 12pm! We didn’t have a first full round of drinks until an hour in to our two hour session. We were told there was no cranberry juice, which is the base of most cocktails, to which we ask what can they do and they went to the shop and bought some. Out of the three non alcoholic cocktails they could only make one even though they were on the menu. To top the whole lot off one of the chicken burgers was EXTREMELY RAW and this was given to a pregnant woman. We were told by the person behind the bar that this was not the first time this has happened either. We highly recommend that they do not serve bottomless brunch anymore as the service cannot be provided.

AVOID AVOID AVOID. This is an absolute scam. Myself and my friends paid £40 for our tickets, rocked up only to see the shutters down along with an eviction notice attached to the front door. If you buy a ticket and turn up you won’t be enjoying brunch, it literally doesn’t even exist.
