The Crown Liquor Saloon in Belfast

Super spot for a good pint, terrible spot for lunch! Probably one of the worst pub lunches I've had in Northern Ireland/Ireland. Very poor quality Fish and Chips £15! Don't waste your money. John Long's Fish & Chips is 2 minutes away, good quality fish and chips for £10. Wetherspooons Bridge House around the corner serve a better quality Fish and Chips, £10 including a pint.

Great service tonight by Rhiannon, Lili and Ellen. The food was fabulous and the Guinness was incredible. A great visit to Belfast.

This was something I hadn’t seen before ! These booths ( as I would call them /cubicles as they called them are where you have a private company in for drinking . A local explained it was an old tradition from 1800’s and a bell could be pushed if you needed a drink and a waitress would come to you . This no longer happens and some of the booths which would seat approx 8 and only had 2 people in them and you can’t enter as they are private !This was a bit of a pain for me as I couldn’t get a seat and can’t stand for long periods so we didn’t stay long . However, nice atmosphere .

Loved our experience so much! The old decor of the saloon is superb and frankly a gorgeous spot for a couple of drinks. We went upstairs to the restaurant where we were greeted by Rhiannon, who sat us quickly and kindly. She took our order nice and quick without rush and we were able to relax with our drinks until our food arrived. The other servers Lili and Ellen were excellent as well, all three were kind, efficient and every table had someone’s full attention. Stew was absolutely fantastic, definitely recommend coming to eat, drink and be served by these three lovely ladies!!

Went for dinner and enjoyed fantastic Irish stew and a few drinks. Rhiannon, Lili and Ellen serving were outstanding (good luck with your studies!). Friendly and attentive to us and everyone. Downstairs, the bar was atmospheric and busy after the NI footie match v Denmark. Overall, a fab night out!

Out of all the pubs we visited in Belfast, this was our favourite. Could be the history, beer, staff or food it just all worked. Really enjoyed everything and really recommend a visit. Recommended by a tour guide but will return. Thanks for everything

We had an enjoyable visit to the Crown six years ago on our last visit to Belfast, and we are delighted to see nothing has changed. A traditional Irish pub with a great atmosphere, and we then went upstairs to have the best Irish Stew we have ever tasted. A great night

We visited the Crown several times while in Belfast for a week. Food was excellent we thought. One friend said they had a mediocre meal but not us. The staff and drinks were top notch, very cozy and friendly. Highly recommend.

A group of us travelled to Belfast for our annual staff outing. We had just got off the bus at the station across the road and the crown was our first stop. We wanted to get some light bites. We had went into the bar and proceeded to order a round of drinks. Bearing in mind that this was 11.30 in the morning, we weren't just going to the optics just yet...when some of us had asked for a west coast cooler.,We were told with an attitude that it was not a party bar. We continued to order our drinks and were then told to move away from the bar. There was no effort to find us a table. We were told we could order food and menus were on the table or we could go upstairs. We went upstairs only to be sent back down as we weren't allowed drinks upstairs (staff downstairs failed to mention this) we went back down and were told again to move away from the bar. No effort to find us a table or accommodate us in any way. This really put a damper on the start of the day. We all work in the hospitality industry and have never witnessed more of a lack in customer service like it! It is just as well that this bar is in the city and does not rely on local custom as one barman in particular would send anyone straight out the door.

Took my daughter to this icon as she had never seen the highlights of Belfast. Had the best glass of Guinness ever….delicious. The atmosphere was good but not as busy on previous times I’ve visited. We had Irish Stew which was a small portion but full of flavour. The wheaten bread was the worst I’ve ever been given. Seriously it was so stale and inedible I don’t know why you would even put it on the plate! Firm like a brick. We fed the pigeons but I’m unsure if they would fly after eating it.

I was struck by the beautiful and elaborate tile facade of the bar. I even posed for a foto before my girlfriend and I entered. Inside was also beautiful, offering carved wooden booths or “snugs” with seating and lots of tile work on the walls and and floors. Looks are not everything. The pub was busy and we found a place at the bar. The barman ignored us for several minutes. When he finally turned his attention to me from his side work, I asked for a pint of a local beer. He brought a Belfast Lager which was a bit overpriced but OK. Before I took my first sip, the barman asked if I was going to order anything more. His tone was boarder line hostile. I hadn’t even been offered a menu. When I equivocated, I was immediately asked to pay. The brusk and unfriendly service saved me. I used the toilet a bit later and my girlfriend watched my beer. I was shocked to find there was no soap to wash my hands. This was no accident. My girlfriend told me she had the same experience when she visited the ladies. This was 3:30 in the afternoon. It seemed to me they care little about hygiene. Just think that the servers had no soap to wash their hands after doing their business in the toilet but before handling your food and drink. It turned my stomach. While i was in the gents, the barman tried to take my partially finished pint from my girlfriend. She was crowded away from the dirty, sticky bar by servers and other customers. The bar is beautiful and well worth looking in at. However, I recommend you check the lavatories to see if the staff are provided soap to wash with before considering eating or drinking anything in the place.

A beautiful spot for lunch, I was seated upstairs by Rhiannon, in a very comfortable corner, menu had good variety of choices, Rhiannon served me my meal, This girl was so good at her job, definitely an asset to The Crown bar/ restaurant. Friendly staff and a very comfortable place to eat. Love the decor, definitely will return, food was very good, reasonably priced too.

Great proper pub, nice pleasant staff loads of different ales, the tiles on the floor and wood work outstanding. Very busy so hard to get a seat but who cares quicker to get to the bar

This is a wonderful historical bar with a good story behind it - ask about the Crown on the entrance. The food is fine, good wine & beer selection - Rhiannon, Lauren & Ellyn provided great service.
