The Crown at Market Drayton in Shropshire

We had a beautiful meal at The Crown on Valentines night. It was freshly cooked and delicious. Great service too. Xxxx

Fabulous traditional pub. Welcoming atmosphere, warm welcoming landlord & team. We popped in to see a menu & glad we stayed. I had a Chicken shish kebab & hubster had Ham, egg & chips, both meals went down a treat. Spotlessly clean, we will definitely be back to tick off some more of your menu. Thankyou

One of the better pubs in town! Mark has done a great job since he's been there and has made the place what it should be, a traditional pub, with good food, a great array of pints and sports available on the TV. The dart boards are some of the best in town and the same story for the pool table.

We were there for a fund raising function. The place was jumping.Money being raised for a good cause.

We walked from the Shropshire Union Canal for a meal. The hospitality was fabulous from start to finish. Food was fresh, homemade and very delicious. Staff were very attentive and dog friendly also. Very good value for money. Well worth a visit!

Went here for lunch at the last minute due to lack of places serving food. I ordered the Hunters chicken, which tasted fine at the time. Whilst at home in the evening I began with a severe headache and feeling nauseous, which then progressed to being violently sick for the next 12 hours. It was the only thing I had eaten that day, so I undoubtedly had food poisoning from my meal there. It took me a week to feel well and eat normally again. I

First visit to The Crown 14/09/22 and was not disappointed, the meals were delicious and value for money, the locals were friendly and the landlord and staff couldn't help you enough even the 3 dogs we had between us were made welcome ......we will definitely be returning next time we are in market Drayton

Called in while travelling on the Shropshire Union canal and went back again on our return trip because it was so good. Best sausage ever . What can I say absolutely brilliant breakfast and the staff are really nice and great service I would recommend to everyone and a big bonus our dog was welcome as well

Visited the pet friendly pub on the way to Chester on the canal The staff were excellent and friendly and the food was delicious All In all a friendly clean pub. Toilets were very clean We visited on the Saturday and had to go back for more on the way back on the Thursday Just a 10 min walk from the canal Recommend the large full English

Today myself and family visited the crown pub looking for a Sunday lunch, as we entered the pub we could see the pub was very busy at the time we were approached by a member of staff possibly the manager. We explained we had left a pub as they didn’t have Sunday lunch on and came he the staff member was super accommodating even at such a busy time and told us not to worry he will squeeze us in, he then with another member of staff closed of the dart boards and brought a table in from outdoors! Then onto the meals they were amazing one of the best roast dinners I have had at a pub in a very longs time! Everything was fresh and hot! No soggy veg! Perfectly done! Of course once finished eating our boys wanted ice cream, again this was no problem at all they gave our boys ice cream on the house!! So we fed a family of 6 and had 6 drinks for under £50! Amazing we will most certainly be back again!! Please just be sure to book in to avoid disappointment.

We sampled all market Drayton has to offer in terms of pubs and this was by far the best . The lovely dark haired girl behind the bar is a credit to the establishment.

Me and my wife stumbled across The Crown when passing through Market Drayton on our boat. I have to say that the locals and staff including the owner are all very friendly and welcoming. We wasn’t going to have food but decided we would whilst there and I can highly recommend the ho Meade cottage pie and my wife highly recommends the cod and chops. This place is definitely worth the visit if you are in the area and I will be posting a similar recommendation on our boating pages so other fellow boaters can hopefully enjoy the place. Well done Mark, you have a cracking pub and we hope to see you again on our next travels through Market Drayton 👍👌

Initially we were unimpressed with the poor selection of Real Ale on offer. There was Doombar and Wainwrights, which are so common these days that ale drinkers are bored of them, why would a free house have so little imagination? However, we decided to have a pint of Wainwrights and it was utterly superb, possibly one of the best we had at several pubs that evening. I will go back and whilst hoping for a better choice, can be confident that the 'boring' beer will be top notch and very enjoyable. Really good cellarmanship.

Excellent food and friendly service and staff best customer service i have had in a pub the gentlemen behide bar so well spoken very welcoming and polite i only went in to ask to use toilet told yes told me where they was but then i come back said thankyou and ordered a drink said i didn't need to but thought it only polite to and seen how good food was stopped for luch highly recommended this place for food and service 100% wish all pubs was so welcoming and friendly

Lovely old building repurposed as a pub. Friendly staff with a good sense of humour. The beer was on excellent form, and very reasonably priced. Just off the main high street. Rooftop covered beer garden. Definitely be back.

On the exterior a nice old pup, on the interior very homely with a variety of sports on, as well as a few local and home ales and nationally popular lagers. Sat down for food, ordered at the bar, i had the cottage pie and my partner tried the stake and ale pie and they were to. Die. For. It sounds cliche but honestly was delicious and would find any excuse to come again. Cant recommend enough.

Nothing open on our one off trip on Sunday until the Crown. What a truely great historical place. four hundred plus years of customers including the then monarch. As far as a welcome, splendid. Roast Beef dinner to beat your Mothers. Cosy seating and pleasant toilets. Clientel young mainly and full of life, almost too full .

With 20 reviews on TripAdvisor - the majority giving an excellent rating, the historic Crown Inn situated at the very heart of Market Drayton appeared to be well worth a visit. Arriving late on Saturday for a light lunch our party was offered seating in two areas. Unfortunately, the close proximity of a large television in our first choice necessitated transferring to the second room. Already seated inside were two ladies taking lunch and a group of 7-8 men and women at another table. Once ensconced a slight delay ensued as we were not initially aware that diners had to place their orders directly at the bar. The menu itself proved to be somewhat disappointing being mainly due to the limited choice on offer, but eventually we settled on lasagne, chicken wings, steak on blue cheese and hand cut chips. Despite a delay of 30 minutes the food eventually arrived and all were in agreement the dishes were well prepared and tasty. However, what should have been a pleasant interlude was completely marred by the behaviour of the group at the next table. The deafening noise largely caused by raucous laughter and the repeated use of expletives made it impossible to enjoy the meal - let alone for us to hold a conversation. A total disregard for others which is today far too prevalent in some sections of UK society. To conclude, the toilets were also in need of attention not helped by one individual lurching about in a seemingly intoxicated state. Sadly, first impressions do count and our experience which should have been that of an enjoyable meal has meant that a return is very unlikely.

27 October 2021: Four of us decided to give The Crown a visit over lunchtime as they said okay if our friends little dog was sat quietly and discreetly in one of the inside seating area whilst we all had some lunch. From the minute we walked in, we were welcomed with a big smile and made to feel totally at home.... The staff were amazing and so attentive and the inside of this pub is very warm, cosy and comfortable...and looked spectacular with all the Halloween decorations. We've always wondered if The Crown was as good as it looks from the outside, so historical and a stunning building dating back to the 1650c or so...wow. The reason we've never been is because usually we don't go into "live sports" pubs but this one was an exception we decided. The ongoing sports on the TV was quiet and non intrusive...a pub with a pool table and two dart boards areas...proper good ol pub as it was and as it is! The selection of drinks, beers, ales and food was excellent. The prices were very reasonable and deserved as the menu was amazing and the food above all was outstanding and delicious!! The service was excellent and the food outstanding, we also met the owner/s and they were so friendly and warm that we'll definitely be back. Oh, and they do Sunday roast lunch too and what we were told about it sounds fantastic. What a great experience, what a great pub, what great friendly staff/owners and what fantastic food and drinks. A big thank you from us four and a big shout out to you all at The Crown, well done and10/10 full marks!! We highly recommend this pub, wow!

Very friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful location. Came on a barge trip (canal) with family and found this gem while exploring the town. Would definitely recommend.

We came in hoping for some dinner, the landlord politely explained that the kitchen was closed but was more than happy to recommend another establishment, on discovering that this pub also wasn’t serving food we returned to the Crown and asked if we could get fish and chips from next door and eat them here, he said yes without hesitation and even offered plates and cutlery. After our meal (which also happened to be excellent) the landlord offered to clear our table anyway, we stayed for a few More drinks and the service was excellent throughout. 10/10, would recommend. P.S. also a very pretty pub in a very pretty town.

Just stopped off for a drink, very friendly staff

We're from out of town but popped in on Saturday looking for somewhere to watch the football, we spoke to a chap behind the bar who I think was called Mark.He arranged to put it on for us without delay and was friendly and chatty when coming round collecting glasses.We had some snacks whilst watching the football and he came round twice to check that we were happy with the TV position and the quality of the food.There was a nice, friendly feel to the pub and if I lived in the area it would tick the boxes in what I'm looking for from a 'local'.

Rubbish service asked for white zinfandel they don't do. Gobby bar staff said alternative was sweet because she smelt it itwasdry. When I returned it to her she said great I will drink it. Menu very limited such a shame it's been taken over.

We called in today for lunch as we had been before unfortunately it has changed hands. The menu is very limited and not the usual fare. I requested white zinfandel which they don't have but was offered an alternative the gobby barmaid sniffed the bottle and said it's sweeter so I had it. It was dry so I returned to the barmaid and told she said don't you like it I said no she said that is OK then I will drink it and turned away. No apology no offer of an alternative so we walked out and will not return

This pub is lovely outside & inside-Tudor style. It has had a recent refurb & there is pleasant beer garden at the back.A very welcoming pub! The staff are attentive & chatty. The food is reasonably priced & good quality. They serve a range of cocktails, gins, shots etc. The only thing that they could improve on is to serve drinks like gin & vodka with a slice of lemon or lime.

Friday 2nd July 2021 myself and 4 friends came here for some coffee and tea we sat in the garden as it was pleasant weather the staff were lovely very helpful and friendly I had my dinner some lovely sandwiches which were reasonably price and very enjoyable we will be visiting again

Very pleasant staff who go out of their way to make you feel like nothing is too much trouble so go the extra mile.The food was better than expected. In my past experiences with these sorts of places before the food has not been so good.Soft play area was excellent, clean, safe and lots of different areas for all age groups. I will definitely be back & recommend to friends & family.

We calĺed in on a wednesday lunchtime.Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the meal,although very nice wasn't as hot as I expected.Maybe it sat for a while as my partners meal was being finished.We wouldn't hesitate to return and I would expect next time to find it a 5 star rating.Would recommend!

Today's specials were a gammon roast and a chicken roast dinner. Roast potatoes, Three fresh vegetables , yorkshire pudding and gravy. Simply excellent in every way. Tasty, hot and top value. The service is attentive, friendly and quick. We eat here regularly and we can highly recommend it for a pleasant experience. Previous specials included a fabulous chicken with herb pie and a chicken " supreme" in a tasty garlic mushroom sauce, again delicious. The regular meals are also top notch.

Food here is very reasonably priced and tasty to boot! Lots of different options including some vegetarian. Couldn't fault the service and warm welcome.

Lovely pub, very clean, if you just want simple homemade food at a reasonable price you can't go wrong. 2 meals £12. Staff very friendly and attentive. Ate in the hallway which is a kind of indoor/outdoor area lovely and cool on what has been one of the hottest days this year.

Called into the crown on Market Day, ordered rump steak, they can't do enough for you, both of our steaks were cooked to perfection , nothing was too much from the landlord, we have been before and will call in again when in the area. 2 out of 2 meals that I have reviewed were cooked beautifully, any thanks

Not a big fan of Marstons ales but must say a very nice pub in centre of town. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Food menu was typical pub grub but very nice and well priced. Would visit again when next in town. The BLT I had was huge and very nice. 👍

Brought back to life by new manager.

We visited here the Bank Holiday weekend. First impressions the lady who served us was very friendly. She was new to the job she told us but took our order and payment quickly enough. As our food arrived we though it looked nice but we were waiting around ten minutes between the first and last meal to arrive to our table. The last being cheese on toast with caramelized onion on top. Well all I can say is that the chutney was caramelized that much it was burnt. It was inedible. The waitress also brought the food out holding the plates with extremely dirty tea towels which was not a good start. The scampi my daughter had was the cheapest reformed scampi pieces and were just mush. Only when the plates were collected the waitress asked if everything was ok. After expressing our views and one plate of food not even touched she said she 'would have a word' but didn't return. As we left a guy behind the bar said goodbye but when we told him there were issues he was rude and did not think there was anything wrong with the food we were served. We were not even offer a refund on the meal untouched....which I think would have been the right thing to do. Food was priced quite cheaply but I'd say cheap for a reason........the other food was edible but nothing good enough to write a good review on. Very disappointing!

Visited the Crown for lunch with friends. We found the welcome and the atmosphere friendly and genuine. The menu was comprehensive and good value for money. The quality of the food was excellent and served by the owner with a smile. A good selection of beers and wines from the bar helped to make our visit an enjoyable experience. We shall certainly return when we can.

Called today for lunch. 2 adults, 2 kids and a dog. Absolutely lovely. Mark and Julie are excellent hosts, the food is amazing. £5 for a main course which was a good size and extremely tasty. Even a bowl of water brought over for the 4 legged visitor. Couldn’t fault at all. Will definitely be back. x
