The Crown in Richmond upon Thames

Great pie (with proper short crust pastry which was crispy!) and decent bottle of red which was reasonably priced shared with a friend. I like the atmosphere in The Crown, I feel it is a pub that I could enjoy a glass of wine on my own if I wanted too An enjoyable meal, thank you!

Lovely evening almost spoiled by 2 young thieves using the begging letter technique to steal mobile phones. Place full of easy targets and staff totally unaware what was happening as were all understandably busy. If you’re planning on going keep your phones off the table as they will be back. Have advised lady at the restaurant check in who will notify the team.

Such a lovely Mother’s Day dinner. Staff was super friendly and attentive to everyone and especially me as a coeliac, and very knowledgeable about what I could and couldn’t have. They even offered to amend certain dishes for me, (though I had loads of gf options!) and the gluten free bread they brought out was amazing. Everyone really enjoyed the food in our group and commented on the warm and beautiful atmosphere. We will definitely be back!

We go to the Crown with friends regularly. Good very good. Service was spot on with pleasant and attentive staff.

Fantastic service in a beautiful dining room. I've always liked The Crown but on this occasion the food was not up to the high standard of my previous visits (last visit roughly a year ago). Wild mushroom and truffle gnocchi was not very flavourful. Chicken Kiev not very garlicy. If you describe chips as triple cooked then they should be great but these were average at best. Those who had the sausage and mash said it was great though, in particular they raved about the gravy. Not bad food at all, just not like it had been in the past. I didn't get the servers names but they were very efficient and friendly. Food arrived in good time and all together.

We came here for a birthday lunch on a Friday, we were a large table of 16. We were seated very quickly, the table was all ready for us (we pre booked), a lovely atmosphere and building and the food came out in a really good time and came out all together - which was impressive for such a large party. Everyone was very happy with their food, the presentation was lovely and the portion size was good. We all only had main courses. There is parking onsite at the pub and is in a nice area of Twickenham All in all I would visit again the next time I'm in Twickenham.

We enjoyed our meal here and service was good, but the main dining room is so incredibly loud when it gets busy, we couldn’t hear each other across the table.. the room could do with some more soft furnishings/carpets etc to try and dampen some of the noise and echo! If we ate here again we would request to sit in the pub area and not in the dining room.

Went for a triple birthday celebration. Dreadful service. Wrong food served, and a main meal not served at all. Had to keep getting up to find staff as nobody came near. Really awful night and won't ever return. Ruined the whole evening.

Lovely staff and delicious food; very nicely done. Non-fussy menu and very accommodating of allergies / intolerances.

Excellent food. A favourite for us and it's definitely upped its game with the food and the service was great. Our steaks and steak and ale pie were all pronounced delicious and the lemon posset is definitely a personal favourite from now on!

Back to its pre-covid standards of excellence

The food was excellent but the service as very slow with us having to chase for drinks and food. The lighting in the restaurant was too bright and did not create a cosy dining atmosphere and it was after 7pm.

Regular visitor myself but also take friends and family, they always comment on the atmosphere and great food. In winter the inside is cozy and in summer the garden is great. The best pub for me.

We were regulars at The Crown before the sale to Young’s but have fallen out of love with it. This was a return to see how an event like a Burns Night might bring us back to greater use. It remains a work in progress. Perhaps it is no more than the fact that such a superb operation - as it was - can’t be replicated by a large chain more focussed on economies of scale. There was nothing wrong with evening but nothing special about it either.

I had requested a table by the fire, when booked on line first thing Saturday morning, but when we arrived, we were told the table wasn’t available and was booked by someone else a week before, firstly I find that hard to believe, secondly you could have emailed and let us know the request table wast available and save us a trip to the pub. So I’m very disappointed with the mismanagement of the crown.

The atmosphere here is spot on . Staff are very welcoming. Food is good though perhaps if I had to be picky …. Then I’d say please drain the onion rings and make sure there’s actually enough onion in the ring 🤭. We will be back as I’m not basing my experience on an onion ring . There are other just as tasty but healthier options 🙂 Do go you won’t be disappointed !

Old fashioned style decor, and was very nice. Chill atomoshere and waiters were very nice. Food was good and portions were big enough. Slightly pricey. Sardines in the starters was average. Recommended dishes: Haddock and chips

First time visit to the Crown. Very impressed with food and service. Would highly recommend this pub. Will definitely be revisiting.

Always a great place to eat. Really friendly and efficient staff.-they go above and beyond . It is an old pub with lots of atmosphere. Roasts are legendary. Good hearty food and excellent wine selection. You never feel rushed- relaxing and super dog friendly. One of my favourite places to go. Youngs at their best

Great as a local. Lovely lounge-like feel inside. Food was really good, but service was very slow, apparently due to a misunderstanding. The sharing 'day-boat' is recommended, the steak too went down well.

Super lunch in the private room - service was excellent and food really nice. Atmosphere great too and felt part of the pub as the doors to the room opened onto the pub.

This is a hidden gem! Great food and a wide drinks selection on the tap, too. Highly recommend this place if you’re visiting Marble Hill and Orleans House.

atmosphere was nill and though only half full in the back restaurant the noise was appalling. there is absolutely nothing to absorb the noise it was as though there was a microphone on every table staff were lovely though it might be an idea to tell them before they leave the room to look around and see if anyone needs anything

Overpriced and ver poor quality. Staff incompetent. Sprouts near raw, one carrot uncooked but scorched whole length, roast potatoes hard. Staff asked if everything thing ok with meals when children would only be served some minutes later. Noisy. Would have complained but no confidence that any attention would be taken. It would simply have added poor atmosphere to an already negative experience.

Visited the pub yesterday for lunch and although there were some good points, namely the staff who were excellent despite how busy it was and the Christmas atmosphere, but the food was a let-down.... The burrata starter was tiny and not slightly more runny in the middle as it should be so was more like a pure mozzarella. There was also more butternut squash than cheese. The parfait was again very small, accompanied by 2 small bits of poor quality bread. The roast lamb tasted ok but is so overpriced - £24 for 3 slices of meat, a few potatoes, 1 carrot, a cold yorkshire and a bit of red cabbage. I really don't understand how pubs charge this for a meal that a few thin slices of meat aside, is just cheap vegetables! Also ordered the seafood sharer for 2 at £30. My family were still hungry after eating it, even though they ordered it as a main as it was not clear if it was a starter or not. 2 prawns each, a lot of whitebait, a bit of mackerel pate, a couple of salmon slices and a little bread. For £30! Desserts were decent at least. So not a disaster but not good enough either for the prices charged.

Always lovely staff, gorgeous decor and atmosphere. Really helpful re: coeliac choices. Would love more vegan options and less meat/fish on menu and size of portion of fries and chips reduced by 30% hence 4 stars but rest is great, thank you.

We were disappointed once again from our local pub - The Crown in St Margarets. We popped in today for a quick bite and a drink.We ordered two portions Triple Cooked Chips with peppercorn dipping sauce and two portions of Truffled Cauliflower Cheese to go with the glass of wine. Once again the very delicious ( in the past) peppercorn dipping sauce was extremely watery , heavily diluted without a single peppercorn in there. This was not for the first time, we noticed the change of the quality of the peppercorn dipping sauce every time during our past few visits and even addressed it with the duty manager. I asked the waitress today for some sauce with a bit of peppercorns inside and she brought me the same watery sauce with some whole black pepper sprinkled on the top which was ridiculous. Does the chef know what exactly is the peppercorn dipping sauce ? The tasty cauliflower cheese in the past ( again) was unpleasant to eat today. It was uncooked and with some strange watery sauce which supposed to be a melted cheese. A few hours after we left The Crown we both got upset stomach with cramps. Sadly we won’t be visiting the pub we like anytime soon. Update with regards the manager’s response: Thank you for your lengthy reply. The fact that 26 other people (who had ordered the peppercorn sauce) and 30 people (who had the cauliflower cheese) does not mean that they were satisfied with the quality and the taste. They simply did not bother to leave any review. We could not pretend that what we were served was ok, it was dreadful , made us unwell by the late afternoon/evening and we thought you should know and make sure that The Crown does not lower the quality of any food including peppercorn sauce and the cauliflower cheese. We wish you a very Merry Christmas and improving the quality of the food you serve in our much loved local pub.

I had high hopes for this place as I had eaten lunch here in the summer but, unfortunately, the Sunday roast was disappointing. I had the roast lamb which was cold. The potatoes had obviously been cooked earlier then reheated so were chewy. The vegetables were cooked well though and were delicious. At £24, I wouldn't recommend.

Gone downhill from the good old days in the past. No atmosphere, average food and off hand staff. Half full on a Saturday night tells you everything.

A great choice a lunch. Very good food (including generous portion size) and good ambience and service at reasonable prices. Also dog friendly. A range of vegan choices for lunch and main dishes, although a few more always welcome.

Pretty reliable place to take friends and family to eat. Good for special occasions. It can be a bit noisy and difficult to find a quiet spot. Also, the bar will not let you open a tab even if you’re eating there. That’s very poor.

We had to wave to staff after waiting more than 30 mins waiting to take a food order and when we needed anything further we had to leave the table to find someone to serve us. The staff were friendly but it seemed they lacked training and/or experience and the restaurant may have been understaffed. No one seemed responsible to look after us.

Happened to be in the vicinity and went to The Crown for lunch. It was really busy which is always a good sign. Fab food and very friendly and helpful service.

Enjoyed our visit here last night - came here earlier in the year for the first time after a visit to Turner's House. Beer in excellent condition (Young's Winter Warmer and Surrey Hills Shere Drop). Reminds me of a smaller version of The Telegraph on Putney Heath 😁.

Had a beautiful Sunday roast, the garlic and rosemary marinated lamb was delicious.

As usual, the staff were friendly and helpful, and we were given a nice table in the comfortable dining room. We had the fish and chips and gnocchi, and both were delicious.

What a gem! I had the mushroom gnocchi - it was so delicious!! My partner had the fish and chips, which he praised, and we shared padron peppers and cheesy cauliflower. Everything was very tasty and with generous portions. Great staff and beautiful design on the inside. Highly recommend and will definitely come back soon.

A group of us meet here once every 4 months as it is the easiest place for us all to get together. As always, the staff were so friendly, helpful and attentive to our needs. Food was delicious - I had macaroni cheese and chips - which was very tasty. Food portions are a very good size. We are already planning our next visit! Highly recommend ❤️

We’ve become frequent customers of this wonderful gastro pub since moving to Twickenham in July. The food is always consistently excellent and the service so friendly. The outdoors is stunning on a summers day, the indoors cozy now Autumn has arrived. Always lots of lovely doggies who are looked after with water bowls and treats. Also I lost a very expensive hat there last night and it was safely put away ready for my collection today - it shows a rare quality of honesty and customer service excellent. Thank you.

Not sure what’s happened with the Crown. It’s all gone downhill. Poor food and service. This place was goldmine and Youngs took it over and it’s a shadow of its former self.

The service was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble (even with 2 small children and a dog!) Alex looked after us superbly. Thank you.

Fabulous 3 course Sunday lunch. Table manager was nice - smiley & very helpful. Food was delicious and there were no delays. A lovely glass of house red too. Not the cheapest Sunday lunch we’ve ever had but it was worth it. Staff polite & friendly. The pub itself is beautiful. The decor is quality and the place is well maintained and clean. Outside is a lovely beer garden too. Very dog friendly with bowls of water for thirsty pups. Definitely recommend. Like Arnie - I’ll be back

Excellent venue, food brilliant (especially the roast potatoes), good service and, despite being really busy, the staff still had time for us were friendly and always had a smile. This was an 80th birthday celebration with family and we all thoroughly enjoyed our visit - returning in December for Christmas lunch. Many thanks

Had a really fun time at The Crown this afternoon. Tricky start as we had a dog in tow and so couldn't be in the restaurant area (our fault) but the team did everything they could to make sure we got another table and even threw in a round of drinks for the delay. Really appreciated, especially Alex who couldn't have done more for us. Food was lovely and staff were all friendly and helpful throughout. Always buzzing on a Sunday - excellent atmosphere and a great time had by all.

The private room at The Crown was recommended to us for a family reunion and we were not disappointed... a lovely space, friendly service, great food brought in a timely manner and a wonderful atmosphere with which to celebrate a special event with 3 generations. Thanks so much for making our event so memorable.

I don't think I've ever said before that 5 stars doesn't seem enough, I had liver and mash, most places now undercook the liver, I don't mind that so long as it is hot but the chef at The Crown cooked it perfectly. Mashed potato at most places is either not seasoned properly or not seasoned at all, the chef at The Crown seasoned it perfectly, so much so that the salt and pepper pot never went anywhere near my meal. My wife's fish and chips looked wonderful, the drinks, neck oil and bira moretti were great and the service was friendly and excellent throughout. Still a wonderful experience, I can recommend the chicken Kiev too. Still a terrific experience even when crowded.

Great bear garden unfortunately the portions of the roast was a but on the slim slide especially for the price 😕 left feeling more hungry than when I arrived 😢 the service was great and the beer was great unfortunately the food was the only downside. Don't get me wrong it tasted great but was much there 4 bites and it was gone barely lasted 5mins

Went for lunch with three friends and had a great time. The new decor looks very good. The food and service were excellent, with lots of choices on the menu from ‘light bites’ to delicious bigger mains. Would definitely re commend, thank you.

The Crown is a great pub but the food has deteriorated. I was with a group of four. I had the calves liver and bacon. It was very dried out and had obviously been kept warm for ages. The fish and chips looked like the best bet. It looked really nice.

This place LITERALLY has it all. Youngs bitter on tap. Huge outdoor beer garden Cosy / traditional main bar The best restaurant in a London pub....bar none.

I was at the Crown tonight with friends. We had a great night, the staff were lovely but the food really needs some work. The four of us all had different main meals and I can’t talk for the other guys but my calves liver and bacon was really sad. I was reminded of a weekday dinner kept warm by my old mum for 30 minutes in a hot oven. I have to say, the cod and chips looked good. I only wish I’d ordered that instead. Come on Youngs - this pub was renowned for good food before you bought it a couple of years back. The Three Horseshoes in Laleham is still owned by the people you bought it off and it’s always booked solid and the food is great.

I arranged a family party for 19 in the private room. The venue was lovely ( although a little warm untill we opened the connecting door) the staff were friendly and professional, service was superb. The food was a highlight and we all thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon. Would recommend.
