This is a nice friendly village type pub with friendly customers and friendly helpful staff. They have a home made food menu serving starters, burgers, wraps etc. and pizzas with a choice of topping which are very good. I had the beef stew in a Yorkshire pudding which was very good, the meat was very tender and I recommend this dish. The other dishes I saw being served also looked good. I understand that they also do a takeaway and delivery service for their food.

No roast today instead a Pizza and Pint at the Keys. Quick service, pizza was tasty and washed it down with a pint of Doombar, what else is there to do on a Sunday afternoon.

I have recently visited a Wonderful Little Drinking Establishment situated at The Top of The Hill on Green Lane Ockbrook..Midweek lunchtime I entered to be welcomed The Effervescent Mr Darlington..Also the warm glow on a brisk March day of a beautiful log burning stove. There was a steady compliment of people in the cosy bar and an array of hand pulled ales and ciders but as I was working I decided to have a soft drink and a bite to eat .I was tempted by a hand made pizza and all I can say is WOW..Amazing, tasty and a really thin crust..Fabulous Mr Darlington...I'll Be Back..❤❤❤

I'm not sure which establishment a previous reviewer was talking about, as apart for a short closure for an excellent refurbishment, a couple of years ago, the Cross Keys, Ockbrook, is alive and kicking. As a small village pub it treads a fine balancing act between all sorts of clientele, but does so extremely well, and is welcoming to locals and strangers alike - as well as their dogs and children ( the latter within reasonable hours). The menu is limited, but excellent, with the made-to-order pizzas a particular standout. Cheese and biscuits on the bar, every Friday, and although a Sunday dinner is not provided, the roast meat and potatoes, on Sundays are of excellent quality. (But you have to get there by mid afternoon, as they go quickly!) A wood burning stove and low beams make the place a cozy place to be in winter, and the doors opening on to the beer garden, makes it bright and cheerful in summer. Yes, it does have large screens, showing sports channels, but they are not loud or obtrusive. Located on the edge of the picturesque Ockbrook Settlement, I would recommend this friendly little pub to anyone.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

Having just moved to Ockbrook I feel blessed to have this fantastic pub a short walk away. At 63 I remember when most villages or small towns had a pub like this, quirky, small, very friendly and packed, it is worth remembering that pubs were just the size of a normal house so a handful of people is all that's needed to create atmosphere, modern relaxed licensing laws helps that nowadays pubs can stay open till midnight and are family and dog friendly is great, simple homemade food BUT best of all a proper pizza oven is the English version of a tapas bar at just £4.50 a pizza amazing value. In tapas style all sorts of tasty nibbles and pies on the bar encourage people to drink and socialise without getting drunk as if on an empty stomach, most old pubs in Somerset, Dorset, Devon put snacks on the bar on Sunday lunch this was because Sunday licensing meant only noon till 2pm something was needed to attract as many drinkers as possible. Sadly, thousands of pubs like this closed because of the smoking ban a dozen or so years ago, just goes to show how addictive tobacco is because at the time overnight the "pub" atmosphere had gone, those that could diversify into restaurants did, but they aren't the same as the old English pub, now that people have got used to smoke free they miss the old local pub hence "micro pubs" are springing up which really is like turning the clock back a century or more. Well this pub is perfect, I think what makes it is people from this area are far friendlier than most places, regular entertainment is another customer magnet Bravo the Cross Keys your the tops.

This is a really friendly village pub with a great atmosphere and an interesting range of real ales. Its dog friendly and people friendly, and walkers are welcome. The lovely landlord serves great, freshly prepared pub food for drinkers (the hot roast cobs with roast potatoes on Sunday afternoons are fab). However, it is not, and doesn't want to be, a restaurant (hurrah!). So if you want a well-kept drink in a friendly place, with maybe a hot or cold dish to go with it this is for you,

Lovely small county pub serving a good range of ales/beers with excellent service from the staff. However, my one small gripe is the Tv screens which to my mind spoil this pub and take away from its charm.

Mmmmmm yum yum xx

He estado aquí para conocer amigos tres veces.

So, two visits for Sunday lunch within June with young family. Made very welcome by all the staff. For me, choice of cask ales excellent. Food choice is limited but very good. Sunday's is roast (choice of two) either with roasties or in a cob/bap. Pizzas are excellent, well made and well presented. Great family atmosphere in a traditional pub. Will return of course.

Cant sing the praises of this village pub enough. Lovely atmosphere great staff and a perfect pint, recognised by this year being in the CAMRA good beer guide. This is not a pub to venture to expecting a full menu. It has a small bar menu with GREAT pizzas at GREAT prices. Just go, have a few beers, banter with the staff and locals and enjoy a good beer in front of the log burner. Also shows all sport and has a buy karaoke night on a Saturday.

While staying nearby we were recommended to pay a visit to this gastro pub as it has excellent local support. We called early evening and managed to secure a table for 7.45pm What we didn't realise was that it was Pizza night which means all pizzas are half price. The menu looked great but we decided that since the pizza offer was too good to miss we would choose from the selection. We were not disappointed, very nice thin and crispy base with very tasty toppings - glad we made that decision. Before leaving that night we booked to return the next night and again we had a lovely meal from the regular menu and specials board - we would definitely return. Beer was excellent according to my other half and the wine selection did not break the bank. Staff were friendly and helpful.
