We booked a table for Sunday lunch and decided on a carry out option instead. I wish now I had taken a photo, the Yorkshire puddings were burnt and there was minimal veg in the box when I opened to serve, 2 carrots 2 leaves of cabbage and 1 roast potato, no gravy no horseradish. £27 for something I could have done better myself! I sent an e mail to complain but heard nothing back. Guess what? We won’t be back!

Came here for lunch and so glad we did. Good service and good food. Staff attentive and very good at cleaning and keeping the place Covid safe. We had the Camembert with rosemary bread to start which was great followed by the steak and fish and chips. Steak cooked perfectly and the fish was so light and demolish and great home made chips. Well worth a visit and we will be back.

My husband and I chose to celebrate his 40th birthday at The Cross Inn with our 2 young children. My only criticism is that everything on the menu sounded delicious so it was hard to pick! I had the scallop and Stornoway black pudding starter which was the ideal balance of flavours and cooked to perfection. My main course was incredible; Roast pork loin steak on a sweet potato and blue cheese mousse with bacon fat biscuit - one of the best meals I've eaten in a restaurant. We were all very happy with our choices and everything was fresh and incredibly tasty. It's my 40th next month and I have no hesitation in booking The Cross Inn again, knowing that we'll all be delighted with our dining experience. Thank you to Dan, Sean, Tracy and Cara for superb service!

My husband and I had a meal ( I use the word loosely) here last week and although the food was tasty there simply wasn’t enough of it . My husbands scallop and black pudding starter was about 3 bites in total and my main course risotto was so small I thought they’d given me a starter portion by mistake . At £17.50 I would have expected to feel like I had eaten, but was left disappointed and hungry. £21.50 for a nothing special bottle of Rioja wine ( no price list offered ) was way over the top too. We have eaten here a few times before but feel like we were well and truly ripped off at this visit . Staff as lovely as ever mind you, hence the 2 stars .

A cosy pub restaurant that is dog friendly in the scenic village of Paxton. We had a delicious meal in this warm and friendly bar restaurant. Dogs are accepted in the bar and the staff couldn’t do enough to make our visit enjoyable. The villagers themselves are very friendly which was an added bonus to our overall experience. The menu was varied, each meal slightly different from the usual set meal which was a really nice change. Visited with my sister and husband on Saturday night. The restaurant was full but there was a table in the bar area with comfortable seating. We ordered drinks and made choices from the menu, all food was tempting with specials on the board. There was a range of food to suit most tastes with some meals a little different from the usual pub fare which is a welcome change. A table became free in the restaurant where we moved to for our meals. The deco is very tasteful with as much attention to detail as there is with the food. We all had different meals and were very pleased with the quality of food. Finished off with a Doddington Cheese board which was ample for 3 and included home baked pancakes. Visited with friends for lunch last Wednesday. Didn’t think there was a lot of choice on the menu so chose what I considered a safe choice- haddock , chips and peas. I have never eaten fish and chips in a restaurant or pub but decided that if they could cook a basic well that everything else should be great. I was very disappointed with my choice. The fish had no taste and was very watery and could have been any type of fish- I was not convinced that it was haddock due to the colour and lack of taste. The chips were ok but nothing to write home about- there were 6 fat chips -a bit on the soggy side and a portion of peas. The portion size was small-maybe to encourage people to have a dessert as well.)

We had really been looking forward to eating at this pub having seen the great reviews. However we were left a little disappointed with our experience. I would describe the mains as average. The haddock was watery and tasteless. The burger was ok but I would have like more than 6 chips I was given!!!! And it was expensive. Onion rings good though. My other guests seemed happy with their food. Beer was excellent. We ordered 2 sweets that were the high point of the meal. Personally I thought the food was expensive for what it was. The ‘haddock’ was described as not as good as that bought At Aldi. Service good and they accommodate dogs which was a real bonus. Seating comfortable. This was a special treat but it wasn’t memorable and I know we we will not return when next in the area. See my other reviews to see what I rate as excellent. There must be better in the area.

We stopped to ask if we could be fitted in for lunch and were told we could if we were prepared to sit at a small table in the bar which we did. After a few minutes one of the bar staff came over to replace my husbands stool with a more comfortable chair. It appeared after about 20 minutes that they had forgotten our order. Our waitress had gone to chase it up and couldn't have been more apologetic. We were given a free round of drinks to make up for it. Worth waiting for I had the very reasonably priced roast beef which was so tender. Absolutely lovely. My husband had macaroni cheese which he said was divine. Finished off with a huge slab of white chocolate cheesecake and he had salted caramel roulade. Not to be eaten if you are on a diet. Both delicious It was such a lovely little pub and so friendly. I would definitely eat there again.

Arrived without having booked for Sunday lunch but were seated in the dog friendly bar area and looked after by very friendly staff. Food was top quality - mostly roasts being a Sunday - with generous portions. Puddings included a really good pear and almond frangipan tart which is highly recommended.

The chicken curry was very tasty with rice, chips and naan bread. Didn’t have a starter or dessert but the menu choice was good. Service was prompt and friendly.

We were recommended this establishment by the owner of the house we were renting for a few days locally, and what a good recommendation it was. Very welcoming, good beers, lovely wine (my wife's opinion) and the meal we had was without fault from us. I had a lovely steak and my wife had a 'special' which was a chicken dish, and she loved it. The sweet was top class too.

Visited as a walk-in when stuck for a dinner on the way back to our accommodation near Berwick from Lindisfarne ((once the tide had gone out - couple of pubs but nowhere decent to eat on the island in the evening). Tricky to find (roadside) parking but otherwise an excellent experience. Very good meal - especially the starters. Very accommodating service even though they had a big group in and wew were just a walk-in.

The Cross Inn was recommended to us by Georgina, the lady who's cottage we stayed in. She was spot on when she said it was a lovely place to eat. Staff friendly and efficient, surroundings cosy and clean, menu uncomplicated and food brilliant. What more can I say. If you find yourself in the area go there....you won't be disappointed. Thank you to all the staff...foh and kitchen for a very pleasant evening. It's dog friendly too! My partner, who's vegetarian was very pleased with the choices on offer....he loved his burger which, if it wasn't hand made was excellent quality.
