Lovely to sit outside the Cricketers in a marquee have lunch. Service was keen and friendly. Caesar salad main was good if also rather mean portion. Goats cheese mousse starter disappointing as it wasn’t mouse, just chunks of cheese. Dessert was a disaster: chocolate brownie out of the deep freeze.

The best pub ever. Staff are amazing and the owner is so friendly, chatty and accommodating. Such a friendly place to be and a family atmosphere. You could be a complete stranger and still feel completely at home. Food is always good and, even though there was reduced menu during COVID, it is still a good menu. I cannot fault the place, the staff, the owner, the food and they also allow dogs in which is a definitely plus. All in all this is one of my favourite places to be and I can happily come in here on my own or with lots of people in tow.

Wow - incredible food!Had lunch here with my sister today and it was just fabulous. We shared a chicken ciabatta and French onion soup, and I can honestly say it was the best bowl of soup I’ve ever eaten. Velvety, tasted truffly, with delicious crispy onion garnishes and herby oil. Amazing! And attentive friendly staff. We will be back. Oh and good covid planning here too.

We called in here after exploring the lovely countryside. Dogs are welcome so we did a circular walk and then had a lovely meal with our dog, who was welcome in the bar. The food was lovely and just the ticket after a long walk. Great rural location. Very friendly staff and customers who made us feel welcome.

Went for a meal at this lovely pub as it has a good vegan menu. Unfortunately we were sat next to a member of staff who’s job was to put cutlery in an ice bucket of boiling water, dry it and then through it into a cutlery draw. This went on through the whole of our meal. Suffice to say we were out of there in 45 minutes with a headache!! I did mention to our waiter it may be a good idea to not have a table next to such an unpleasant noise. Such a shame as the food is good but made this an unpleasant experience

You always seem to get a fantastic service at the Cricketers, the menu has been reduced due to Covid but what does it matter you get an excellent meal, excellent service and excellent company, especially as the new boss has removed some of the less desirables. Can’t wait to go back, in fact we have decided to do so once a week. This is a place to drink, moderately as one needs to drive or cycle, eat and relax in a truly pleasant atmosphere. I only wish I lived in walking distance, the locals are so lucky.Thank you to all of the staff, see you next week, and the week after!

The website says it shuts at 11.30, so my friends and I arrived at 8.45 for a drink. He rudely told us that “we were a bit late” as the pub shuts at 9 - however this has not been publicised anywhere. Furthermore as we asked for a drinks menu he made a loud comment to the member of staff serving us saying he would need to see ID although none of us expressed any interest in drinking any alcohol. As a local, I always have loved this pub when coming with my family however the attitude towards me when I was with two of my friends was completely different.

Fantastic local pub which I’ve been going to for many years. Always friendly with a lively bar area (dogs welcome) and a more formal restaurant nextdoor. Unfortunately due to the current Coronavirus the pub is closed but the kitchen remains open and they have a good takeaway/local delivery menu daily from 12. You just ring up and order and state collection or delivery. The fish and chips was superb and I will be going back this weekend. Hopefully open again soon so can enjoy a beer on the sunny terrace out front

My wife, daughter and her boyfriend visited last Sunday for lunch. Despite the fact that the pub was extremely busy, the food was excellent and the service very good. The beef was of exceptional quality and properly cooked. I would thoroughly recommend - as long as you book beforehand. The only minor criticism would be that the food wasn't as hot as we would have liked, but given how busy they were, we can slightly forgive them.

Been here twice in the last 4 weeks on a Saturday afternoon. The surroundings are very nice and the refurb (not sure when it was done) has been done very well. It's a nice menu with the right amount of choice so should be something for everyone. Food on both occasions was OK but the main problem was the time it took to get our orders. On Saturday, 4 of us arrived at 1.25pm, we skipped starters, ordered 4 mains, and at 2.35pm we followed up at the bar to be told they were just 'plating up' and they arrived about 5 to 10 mins later. My burger was a bit dry and partners pie had a' soggy bottom', I did wonder if they had had a problem cooking the other 2 orders of fish and chips and our courses had been sat around?. When the food came out the waiter was very apologetic. We then ordered desserts, unfortuantely this also took an age to arrive and we had to approach the bar again to find out where they were. Again, we were told they were being plated up. Again they were just fine, we orderd 2 pecan tarts but they weren't tarts, they were slightly dry sponge cakes containing pecans. When I followed up on the desserts I took the opportunity to pay as I didn't want to be hanging around for the bill after we had finished. All in all we were there over 3hrs for 2 courses. On the previous occasion the food was better and we were there about 1hr 45min for one course. The staff are friendly enough and I don't know if we were just unlucky both times or whether they were just a bit short staffed when we arrived. I think we will return as I get the feeling that when they are 'on their day' it's a great place to go but I will leave it awhile.

A group of friends and I had a fabulous time at The Cricketers Greek night. It is such a wonderful thing that the pub bothers to put on events like this, bringing everyone in the community together. I don't think I have seen so many happy smiling faces in a long time! The entertainment was provided by traditional greek musicians (that I understand the previous landlady used to hire) and plenty of people enjoyed dancing.

The cricketers is a borderline quality pub portraying itself as a high quality establishment. The food is average and they have bizarre rules (you're allowed to have a medium or a rare steak, but not a medium rare steak?) Any failings could be forgiven if it wasn't the case that the manager is trying to ruin The Viper; by far and away the best pub in the area. If the manager here has any sense he will reconsider his position.

We'd booked late Sunday lunch (because, in the run-up to Christmas, no 12.30-2.30 tables were available) but had not anticipated the snow which made the drive along the country lanes from the A12 rather 'interesting'. We arrived to a warm welcome but the 'restaurant side'...

Eight of us for a family Sunday lunch we all thoroughly enjoyed our food. The beef and chicken roasts were cooked to perfection. The service just right very attentive but not rushed. The dessert to die for was the white chocolate and apricot bread and butter pudding. Complements to the chef and staff. An enjoyable afternoon .

....and that's just 'off the bat' (That will be my first & last cricket reference, because, unlike The Cricketers pub, I know when to stop pushing a theme!)I visited here for the first time at the beginning of the month. There was a group of 8 of us. Ignoring the 'in your face' over stated reference to cricket - for goodness sake, we get it! - we sat down at our booked table to be confronted with two photocopied pieces of paper stapled together.I had already looked up the menu online, as I don't like fancy food and was happy to see they did ordinary items like ham & chips. This, however, did not appear on our 'high class' menu pages. Photocopies? Seriously?I asked the waitress what happened to all their proper food, she said, "oh, we decided to cut back for Sundays" Okay, well, it would have been nice to know that, there was certainly no mention on line & I'm not sure how difficult it is to place a piece of ham on a plate, but I'm no chef.My Brother-in-Law ordered the Sunday roast beef which was so rare that a good vet could have got it back on it's feet. My Husband had the chicken breast which was dry. He looked at his plate and said "where are the carbs?" There were 2 pieces of roast potato and that was it. My B-in-Law had asked for extra potatoes instead of veg and the waitress said she would have to ask as the kitchen were very strict on their food count. Going by the prices, I have to say this astounded me. He actually got 3 pieces of roast potatoes. All the meals came with a panache of vegetables. I am familiar with the word but, not in this context so, out of interest, I looked it up. It means vegetables displayed in a flamboyant manner. There was nothing flamboyant about the display on our plates. We did get a variety of coloured carrots between us, so I guess that was a bit exciting. With my original choice taken away from me by this limited menu I chose the pie of the day which was beef & stout. This turned out to be appallingly sweet. So much so, that I couldn't eat it. I had asked for chips instead of the mash and to cancel the veg. I don't like vegetables with chips. My plate came with the veg still on it and I can only assume that was to make it look a bit more full as there were only half a dozen chips. When the waitress came to clear the plates I commented on the pie's sweetness and she said "I was going to ask if you wanted dessert, but that would be sweeter still". There isn't really anything you can say to that, is there? As most of the desserts had also disappeared from the reduced menu I opted for the children's menu of Chocolate Brownie Sunday (yes, that's how it was spelt - They also appear to be selling 'Carves' Liver - a little proof reading goes a long way, chaps) which was ok but the brownie pieces should have been cut in half which would have made for better eating. The website says that a discretionary 10% tip is added in the case of tables of 10 or more, but, apparently, they can't count because it was also added to our table of 8.We divided the menu equally and our portion came to £45. A lot, considering we were left hungry at the end of it. Would I go again? That's an emphatic no.

We had been for a morning walk, lovely area, and was pleased to find the pub open before 12 (previously we had to wait). 8 of us had a drink and 4 stayed to eat. I had the mushroom risotto. It was very creamy and lacked taste. I actually put some mint sauce on to try to brighten it up. The vegetables in the risotto were the same as those with the roast. (Lack of imagination or lazy?) Parmesan shavings would have been nice! I left half of it.Beef roast was ‘OK’ meat too rare for my friend, enormous Yorkshire, too much gravy (no gravy boat) and not many vegetables. My husband had the lamb which was thickly sliced, tough and he also disliked the gravy being put on the plate and lack of variety of vegetables. My friend who had the pie said it was nice, but she never complains. Overall disappointing and due to the rather high price we’ll not be returning nor recommending it to other walkers. Much nicer meal for less money available elsewhere. As we hadn’t booked we ate in the small bar area, 4 dogs in there, doesn’t bother me but might others.

I was personally v impressed with the service and the food. From the friendly welcoming voice on the phone to the warm welcome on arrival our visit got off to a good start. The four of us chose three different dishes which were served in a distinctive house style. The chips that came with the fish for example looked like sliced jackets. The chilli was perfect and the house curry delightful. Would def recommend.

We've enjoyed coming here every Sunday for the past couple of weeks. With two small children under 5, we were well looked after each time - kids were kept busy with the lovely activity packs they were given. They also LOVED the sausage and mash, and chocolate brownie dessert. The menu caters for gluten free which is always nice to see. The place has been recently refurbished and looking very smart. The owner is just lovely. Made us feel very welcome. We're really looking forward to joining the bonfire night with hog roast and fireworks. Thanks James and team for fabulous customer service, delicious food and a great environment.
