Go here for a drink in a beautiful setting but don't expect any food. We were advised that no food had been prepared or served inside the place for 200 years. You can get snacks in bags and you might find a barbecue outside on a summer evening but best to enjoy the Cresselly Arms for its position on the river (tidal), unchanged interior and repartee among the locals. A true gem of a "real" pub.

Visited a few years ago in the summer and had a drink over looking the quay. Visited again a few days ago and it was cold and dark (as you’d expect for the time of year) The building looks tired, bar full of locals (they keep it going through the winter) but a huge sign saying NO CHILDREN NO DOGS. Such a shame because it use to be such a lovely welcoming olde world pub. Stayed for a couple drink, sat outside, and left. Such a shame!

Right on the water and the perfect place to sit and watch the sun go down with a beer / cider / wine in hand. Gets busy but service is swift and food is cooked/served outside (don't think it's every night but a good selection of crisps and nuts as a back-up!!). Live music some night - great atmosphere and highly recommended.

A cracking old skool pub with a decent array of well kept beers. Sitting out, by the Quay, and having a few beers on a summer evening was amazing (although you have to be careful of parking anywhere near where the tables across the road are because it can flood at high tide).

This isn't a restaurant, it's a pub. Why am I leaving a review? Well, the landlord was welcoming and friendly. He keeps EXCELLENT beer and to buy a pint, sit outside on a warm sunny evening and watch the tide come and go was possible the highlight of a recent break in Pembrokeshire. There is nothing to do except enjoy the view (which is brilliant) and the beer, and of course your friends company. No 4G/3G or wifi so you'll have to talk to each other. It was so relaxing, we did it three evenings running! Pick a decent weather day and I promise you'll love it.

This is just a DRINKING PUB all be it in a very nice location.I called in evening of Thurs 22/6/17 whilst on a cottage holiday in Cresswell Quay and received a friendly welcome. It is pretty old fashioned in lay out.I was informed that on' certain 'occasions they do set up barbecues .I think if it was to do food there would have to be some large alterations to to premises which would destroy the quirkiness of the place. This week the weather has been superb and the pub was well frequented. It was nice to have a drink in what are becoming few and far between premises.I was told that they make enough without resorting to the food side.Nice beer.

Well, I have lived in Pembrokeshire all my life and and can say that I would be utterly ashamed if visitors and tourists thought that the sort of attitude and service in this lousy pub was typical of our area. Cringingly rude and unchivalrous landlord. A far cry from the jovial welcome that you used to get from Maurice Cole (The previous gentlemanly landlord).A beautiful old-fashioned friendly pub has been completely ruined by the massive ego of the new landlord. If you're not local- and you have visited this unfriendly pub- please don't think this is typical of what Pembrokeshire has to offer- it most definitely isn't.

Welcoming, cosy (especially in winter with 2 fires roaring). What makes it special is its location, the locals and the fact that is doesn't allow dogs. By the way, all those reviews that eulogise about the food are talking about the wrong Cresselly Arms - in the 45 years I've known this pub, it has never offered more than a bag of scratchings, crisps or nuts (although you can buy the freshest eggs ever if you time it right). In the summer this is magical - sit on the old pier with a point of Quay ale and watch the tide come in, transforming the landscape into a photo opportunity. A special place indeed.

Called in for a drink, having found the pub 35+years ago and decided to revisit whilst in the area again. (will be another 35 years before revisiting again). My wife who has never drunk went in with our son's partner and she, wanting to get settled asked for "a pot of tea". She was promptly told "THIS IS A PUB YOU KNOW", tea eventually came, but the beers ordered were quickly downed and as we were leaving another couple arrived and asked for coffee, and were slapped down even quicker than us. This place has a serious issue with lack of customer service.

One of the most beautiful locations I've ever come across for a pub - outdoor tables overlook a tidal river set in rolling countryside, with stepping stones across the river visible at low tide. We came here twice during a holiday based a few miles away and fell in love with this place - the first time, with children on a sunny afternoon, it was buzzing with people enjoying the view of the river (and kids exploring the muddy tidal river bank and stepping stones) a friendly local regular showed me around the pub and gave me some history including its recent incarnation as a filming location! The second time, we went on a busy Friday night at sunset and loved seeing the mist roll in along the river..beautiful. Friendly service, good range of drinks available - cash only. We'll be back.

I first went to the Cresselly, 15 years ago. That was when Maurice was still running the place. He remembered me every time I came back (I lived near Bristol at the time) but it was always worth it. Great beer and the Ham rolls with home-made chutney were great (Saturday only). Great people too. No people with phones jammed to their ears! Went over earlier this year and John and Colin were great. Place has changed a bit, one of the rooms is a lot smarter than it used to be. BUT it is still a local place. So rare now. People moaning about spritzers, kids and dogs should remember how a pub used to be. Dogs tied up outside and never a kid in sight and as for wine it was red or white and that was that.Keep it up lads.

Reading reviews from others I thought a pub with no grub, and not really suitable for kids or dogs would not be for me, however I was missing the point about this place. Its purpose seems to be to give the local community a focal point to meet up and relax, and it’s not really about townie tourists like me. But if you get an outside table on a nice sunny afternoon looking out over the water at high tide, there are few places to beat it. I’m no beer expert, but the Quay Ale is well worth a sampling, or two. Since its not a Restaurant, the stars from me are based on it being just a good pub.

Possibly one of the best pubs ever. The Quay Ale is brilliant and brewed locally. It is a proper pub, with very welcoming staff and clientele. It is a proper local and everybody from richest to poorest is equally welcome. Apart from crisps, nuts etc., no food is served. There is a large sign saying no children or dogs indoors, but if it is cold outside the youngsters are welcome if well behaved. In this part of the world dogs are not as cosseted as in some places but you can happily tie up the dog outside for a while.Apart from a great selection of real ales, there is a range of wines and spirits. However I suspect that anybody ordering a banana daiquiri should expect to a) have the mickey taken and b) be disappointed. The setting is perfect and relaxing. there is also a bus stop outside so anybody who can't walk to the pub can get a bus. I believe that many locals have already embraced this form of travel. We have visited this pub three times and hope to go many times more, even though it is a 240 mile drive.

We were lucky enough to hear about a BBQ and party at this pub on the quay to mark an exceptional high tide. It was great. Loads of boats moored up, there was obviously so kind of fancy dress thing going on, a BBQ and live music from a Samba percussion group. Really fun event. It did take ages to get a burger and food was basic but fine, and ages to get a drink; we used the shed bar which I assume opens as an extra bar for events. Anyway, overall a fun night. We did consider going back another night but noticed a "no kids or dogs" sign at the main bar entrance. A shame but from what I hear it is a great pub for local ales, so fair enough, as it focuses on something different. Unlike some reviewers I don't believe a place must be family friendly and would actually rather them be clear rather than it being awkward inside.

The Cresselly Arms Inn at Cresswell Quay is worth a visit. It serves its own named ale brewed specially for the pub. The ale is very moreish so ensure that you have a dry driver who is prepared to drive the narrow windy roads/lanes to get there. It sits in a valley alongside the Pembroke estuary and provides seating on which you could while away a few pleasant hours. You can also purchase a Cresselly Arms gift pack if you wish to continue enjoying the ale after your visit. The pub is packed with years of memorabilia that is interesting to look at. The cresselly arms is actually located in Creswell Quay not Cresselly for those of you reading this that are not local to Pembrokeshire. It is a tradition olde fashioned public house. It serves a few lagers Carling, Stella, and Coors, Stowford Press cider. But is renown locally for its cask ales particularly one called fire water. It is situated on the Quay with the river right there. There are a few small walks available around the area. There are stepping a stones at low tide one can cross the river. It has a welcome atmosphere and the land lord was friendly enough. A lovely visit in a lovely area I highly recommend a visit on a lovely day if you fancy a cheeky one.

We stopped by one day with the children. It's just one old-fashioned bar. We didn't notice the sign on the door which said no children and went in as it was cold outside. The greeting was very friendly anyway and the children were welcomed and provided with drinks and snacks and were tolerated and even teased by the Landlord and regulars - which was extremely good of them as we didn't see the sign until we were leaving! The real fire warmed us up on a cold day. It's an attractive spot and the cask ales are a big attraction I hear but as we're cider drinking philistines we didn't get to experience those. A large group of fellas getting into a waiting bus as we arrived looked as though they had sampled and enjoyed more than their fair share tho'! :) We'll pop in again.

Some of the reviews miss the point of the Cresselly Arms: it is a pub, not a poncey wine bar. Been coming to this part of Wales for best part of 20 years and no trip is complete without a trip to the Cresselly Arms. Beer from the barrel by jug, no food (except BBQ at weekend) and no music (except a morris troupe if you are lucky).Go on a sunny evening and there is no-where else in the world to rival it. This is a wonderful location, and a great pub. Excellent real ales and a very traditional setting. The two landlords are great guys and it I a wonderful place to meet the locals. If you know the tide times, try to get there for high spring evening tide and there may be boats tied up to the quay. Don't park on the quay if it is a high spring as it goes under water, as does part of the road.

Inside its pretty down beat but has everything you might need. Its not posh but then its not trying to be - the location is why you go there and btw the doom beer just slips down. Whether you get a pack of scratchings or not seems to depend on whether they have been to the cash and carry. Only thing missing for me is some pickled eggs!Sit outside overlooking the stepping stones - not many better places to be early evening and attracts a good eclectic crowd. If you've got kids, crabbing off the quay is a must when the tide is in or on the turn - you'll catch hunderds and all with a beer in hand (not the kids obviously). If you're looking for cocktails, keep moving this isn't the place for you. But personally i like its spit and sawdust, down to earth feel and good beer.

Lovely location but shocking service when calling by for a drink today. Ordered a white wine spritzer and soda water poured from a nearly empty 2 litre bottle of cheap soda and clearly flat. Bar staff disinterested when politely querying this, making no attempt to check and being rudely dismissive in response. On tasting the drink outside, suspicion confirmed: water and wine and no fizz evident at all. Other glasses were covered in lipstick. On returning to the bar, barman refused point blank to open fresh bottle of soda and replace the drink and slammed returned money down on the bar.Altogether very rude and offensive in response to pleasant and polite customers who merely wanted the drink requested. I believe under new management since September but would strongly recommend avoidance until appropriate customer service established!

Two visits in August both appalling.landlords not interested in customer service.our guest wanted white wine spritzet..soda offered from nearly empty bottle..queried whether or not it was flat..given take it or leave attitude..did take it it was flat then refused to open new bottle!!! Just had money thrust at me and then they walked off!!!...my glass had 'lipstick' on it ..didnt bother with mentioning that!!!!...& beer choice down to one barrel. Was nearly as bad at previous visit when local bike & classic car club met there...only offering limit beer/lager and ONE choice of soft drink...bearing in mind no. Of drivers present not very good move. So sad this pub changed hands last year .wont be taking anyone else there that is for sure...very embarressing!

Excellent friendly and informed service at this pub, we stopped for some drinks recently and it's a unique place saturated in history. Stop here for some local beer too, it's amazing.

Love to visit this pub in the summer and sit outside overlooking the stepping stones and the quay. Hubby has a pint from the jug pulled from the kegs on the bar and I have a rather nice cafetier of coffee. No dogs or children are allowed in the bar hence we only visit in the summer. On our last visit we watched Mullet swimming around as the tide turned. This is more about the experience of an old fashioned pub.

What a delight to find this pub whilst out cycling. The pub is fabulous, just the way pubs used to be. Great old fashioned decor, a proper bar with a smiling, helpful, staff member, who explained the history of the pub etc. the locals are friendly and welcoming and the new owners were delightful, telling me to look all over the pub, even upstairs to their private rooms. A welcome change to have such warm, friendly service. We cannot wait to return.

This is a fantastic pub, a proper pub where good beer, friendly service and welcoming locals make it something very special. Saw the new year in here, with friends, what a great start to 2014. I wish it was my local - but then my liver is probably grateful it isn't!!Try it, you will not be disappointed - unless you are looking for a plastic or gastro pub - in which case avoid it like the plague!!

This pub is thankfully caught in a time warp. It is still a proper boozer where you get served good beer without the gastro bit, long may it last.

We love 'the quay' as we locals call it ! It's the best place to be on a sunny evening in Pembrokeshire ! We go whenever we can, the winter is good as they have a lovely fire going in the bar ! But the summer evenings are best , sitting outside & meeting up with friends. They don't do food, but they don't need to ! When the tide in & the boats pull up its fab ! We've been the last two evenings, as the weather has been lovely ,and its been busy !

If you're in West Wales you must find this little nugget of a pub. It's like stepping back in time at this pub. Decent beer poured from a barrel into a jug and then into your glass. Then take it outside and drink while enjoying the view across the quay. Some fine characters gather at this pub. We always take friends and visitors to this pub and they enjoy the experience. No food served, only crisps nuts etc but they often have a hog roast in the summer..
