The Creel Fish & Chips in Gwynedd

We visited on a Sunday evening and it was busy but I’m afraid even though the fish was good I didn’t like the batter . I found it too much and greasy . I would prefer lightly battered, I’m not sure if this can be requested . All great portion sizes though

Joined a large queue on a saturday night it was worth the wait. Amazing chippy and didn't sit on your stomach afterwards which so many do nowadays. Tasty haddock (not mushy like some chippies) and good chip portions. My only bit of feedback is one member of staff needs training in how to speak to customer's. There was no sign saying 'Food collected here' in the tiny hatch in the middle I happened to rest my elbow on the counter and got told to move it. Don't let the lady with very short brown hair put you off. Chippy clearly loved by locals and tourists like me.

The best chip shop we have ever tasted. Fresh chips, not greasy at all and a very friendly service. Fish cooked to perfection and prices reasonable.

Very fresh fish and chips, all served with a smile 😊 We had the cod and scampi, both delicious. The homemade tartar sauce was also wonderful. You can collect it and walk down to eat on Abersoch beach before it gets cold too! Would definitely recommend

On a wet, windy and miserable day in Porthmadog, I needed comfort food! The place where I was staying had recommended the Creel so I was confident I would get a good meal. Absolutely spot on! Small battered haddock, chips and mushy peas for £5.50, bargain. I still had to leave some chips but it was all excellent. Clean place and lovely friendly staff.

We’re staying just up the road, so this place caught our eye straight away. We gave it a go and we can honestly say it’s some of the best fish and chips we’ve ever had! Would definitely recommend! Cheap as chips too 😉

We tried this again after having had a poor meal in 2021. Unfortunately, it was a long queue but not worth the wait. The fish - very thin and dry - covered with very thick batter. Chips not good either. It just needs a bit of care in the cooking as it's in a prime spot in Abersoch. We now go to the chip shop in Pwllheli which is further to drive but worth it.

Don’t waste your money (£34.80 - 2x Cod, 1x large chips, 1x small chips, curry sauce, gravy, 1x scampi). The cod, one portion was flat and thin, essentially just a batter fat sponge. The was a thicker piece of cod but completely different batter, thick and uncooked. The chips were okay, but £4.10 for a portion of large chips, typically considered small where I live. Small portion - probably around 20 chips. Gravy was watery and tasteless. Curry sauce was okay. Scampi was like shop bought stuff. You could ask why I didn’t take the food back, it was a 10 minute drive away and you just chalk it up as a place you wouldn’t revisit. On this occasion I had to leave review. The fist negative review I’ve ever done. Shame really.

After reading some of the reviews about this fish and chip we fail to see how it has some good postings. We would call our take away on Friday evening o.k to edible. If our two fish and chip shops were home like this, we wouldn't bother. Thankfully they are 10 times better. The fish and chips from here was typically one for passing trade and not having to rely on local customers. Small sized fish, batter very thick and chips not up to much.Had worse, but certainly had a whole lot better.

Excellent traditional takeaway-only chippy, brought into the digital age! Fairly quick service (your "fob" bleeps when it's ready), chips and cod freshly fried. Recommended.

It was bank holiday weekend and my friends and I were caught in heavy rain looking for somewhere to eat. When we got there the seating area was closed, I asked if we could all sit because of the rain and they said they were understaffed unfortunately and couldn’t open the area up. I have lost count of the amount of times that I have visited The Creel for fish and chips and I have finally got round to writing a review. Every visit was as good as the one before with enormous pieces of soft flaky fish in a crunchy batter and perfectly cooked chips. There is always a queue out of the door and up the road which is now made safe by a great use of pagers to call you back into the shop when your order is ready, meaning everyone is staying socially distanced and safe. Well done Creel!

We went as a last minute treat at the end of our New Year stay in Abersoch. We were warned it was laughably expensive, we weren't disappointed! The comment from the staff when we questioned the bill? 'Welcome to Abersoch!' The staff are also far from friendly, given there is a sign behind the bar saying 'be nice or leave', I'd suggest they take their own advice!

Dinner for 7 which we all enjoyed. The home made tartare sauce for the scampi was really good.We're from Lancashire and the mushy peas were good if a bit pricey at £1.70....but we're on our holidays so it doesn't matter.Large mixed order ready in 10 minutes.Recommended. Thank you

Twenty quid for two fish and chips and one pie so you would expect something good. But the fish batter was soggy, soaked in oil and in parts over-cooked to a crisp. We suspect it may have been refried. Chips nothing to write home about. The fish itself was okay as was the pie. This place is the only fish and chip shop left in Abersoch so they have the market cornered but for the amount we paid we were disappointed to say the least.

Creels are a good value fish and chip shop coveniently located in the Abersoch town centre. My only criticism is that the food can be a little on the oily side occasionally. They are a godsend though because there are only a couple of takeaway places in Abersoch.

Forgot my pie but I went back, they provided it to me no questions asked and even offered additional chips how I had enough food but the offer was decent of them. Overall however they're amazing and I e been coming here every year for the last 10 years.

Visited The Creel in Abersoch today for a lunchtime meal of fish & chips. Have to say, was pretty disappointing! The owner was really quite unfriendly & rude & if you like battered fish which is 70% batter 30% fish then you'll be happy! For many years we have holidayed in Abersoch as a family, The Creel is a firm favourite and we love our fish and chip night. Never disappoints, always fresh and delicious and good humour from the staff.

Had takeaway fish and chips whilst visiting Abersoch and must say that they were some of the best we have ever tasted. The fish was cooked fresh to order and the batter was done to perfection. The chips were also really nice. Would definitely recommend. It is closed on a Tuesday and Wednesday.

We had a few drinks in Abersoch so called here before we headed back to Mynytho. Very tasting and still nice and hot by the time we arrived back to Mynytho. I have also realised whilst in the que that there is no welsh word for Chinese curry Sauce lol ! We will be back at the end of May.

Wanted something quick for tea, The Creel did not disappoint. The fish was lovely and I can also recommend the steak and ale pie. The service was excellent and the food fresh and hot when we got home. We will return.

Had fish and chips on our last night on holiday. I thought the quality was average and priced for tourists. I can get better quality cod and chips in several places near home and a lot cheaper. I was charged £18.50 for 2 x large and 1 x half fish, 2 x portions of chips and 2 x small peas - the fish was cod fillet which is a cheaper cut than loin. I asked the woman who was taking the orders (and money) if she could split one portion of chips with the half fish and when finally served by another employee, the woman complained that I'd been given nearly an extra portion of chips. Not sure if this is a local chip shop for local people but don't expect service with a smile and bring plenty of cash.

Great fish & chip takeaway. Fish so fresh it fell away from the batter & great chips. - crispy on the outside, soft & fluffy inside. We were lucky first out of the fryer but high turnover as so busy. Doubt food stands for long. Highly recommend.

We visit the Creel every time we visit Abersoch. It is always busy with queues out the door (its is tiny). Staff are obviously always stressed due to the mad rush at tea time so don’t expect a friendly service. A little expensive but everything in Abersoch is expensive. Two fish chips and gravy’s with a can of drink cost £20 but when you’re on holiday you can’t not go for a chippy and the creel is delicious. They also do gluten free options for the mother in law which is great.

We have been here several times as we frequent Abersoch regularly - we have always found the food to be good, the service to be good and the prices on the fair side (Abersoch can be a more pricey than other towns in the area).

Very good, standard fish and chips. Served quickly despite being very busy. Good location in central Abersoch.

We joined the cue outside and expected to wait for half an hour but they got through the people in front of us quickly. We ordered and stood to one side and awaited our order and it all took about 5 minuets from ordering. Food was hot and the fish was perfectly cooked with crispy batter and soft flaky fish, the chips came hot and perfectly cooked ( not greasy). Would definitely use again.

We got several things to share and the cod was the best. The plaice was breaded and not battered but still ok. The scampi was very salty. The chips were good. Everything was very average but still tasty. We were looking for a quick bite before heading to the beach and this worked just fine for us. If we had set out for a chippy tea we would have been slightly disappointed, but as a quick lunch it was ok.

A great traditional fish and chip shop , great value for money . We had small fish chip and peas all for £4 . Very fresh we ate insideT no extra cost., and did not feel rushed . Staff very friendly.
