What a fantastic place to get away from it all and have a brilliant meal, haven't been in a while but can't wait to go again the food is amazing

The chef, Terry, never fails to provide a wonderful three course meal. The textures and flavours for each dish are spot on, and make such a change from the ordinary fare one gets at so many other places. Really recommend people visit this restaurant, the best in the area in my opinion.

There were 4 of us. 3 different starters, 3 different mains and 3 different desserts. A small menu, with enough variety to allow the chef to get close to perfection. A look at recent reviews, also suggests consistency. We're looking forward to our next visit.

This is the 4th time we have been here. Always come when on holiday in Essex. Food is beautiful , and would highly recommend it. Care is taken with every dish. Landlady is very friendly too, but never intrusive. Will definitely come again

Totally unexpected experience in the Essex countryside. A fabulous meal of lamb rump, crushed potatoes, pureé of cauliflower, and prune jus. All cooled to perfection! The best meal I’ve had all year. Highly recommended.

We went here to celebrate my birthday and what an excellent choice it was! It's a very smart-casual restaurant with excellent service, atmosphere and food. The wine was perfect too. I started with a crab salad and my husband had a delicious liver pate. We then both had the sea bass which was grilled to perfection. Great ice cream desserts too! The chef really knows what he's doing and his wife, (Caroline?) made you feel welcome and was equally charming! I only regret we don't live closer so that we could return regularly!

We celebrated our 10th anniversary here and the food was absolutely fantastic. Terry veganised the set menu for me and it was delicious

High quality restaurant with a very good value 3 course lunch offering. Nice bright dining areas and a terrace for the better days. Vegetarians and pescatarians well-catered for in a compact but nicely balanced menu.

Wow, where do I start! We bought a holiday home close by a few years ago and stumbled across the Creek. We regularly attended as we simply have never experienced somewhere so consistent in quality, service, ambiance, value for money and taste. Every time we eat here we are served something outstanding. Terrence is such a good chef and always puts all his efforts in creating a well presented tasteful delight. Caroline is lovely and very professional looking after her guests and making them feel comfortable and delivers 100% service always as do all of the staff here. Thank you all at The Creek for yet another amazing visit!

I have been meaning to book this place for some time now since it changed hands I can remember it as the The Flag pub but since then it has been rejuvenated into a lovely restaurant retaining a lot of the old features.I'm not sure but I get the feeling this is a family run affair, everyone was friendly from when we arrived which is always a bonus.Both me and my partner decided to go for the 2 course menu with fresh vegetable soup to start then the carved beef sirloin for our main the food was so lovely we decided to add the 3 course “The Creek” split caramelised banana, salted caramel ice cream, roasted walnuts, crème Chantilly Mmmmmmmmm!!To sum up the experience it was a nice ambience and the food here was both a joy and a triumph I will certainly be returning!!

With the weather being so hot we were planning a nice little drive in the country and a good lunch.While i was enjoying my early morning cuppa and reading my iPad I chanced upon a newspaper article about Essex restaurants and reviews they had answered.I was intrigued by the creek and viewed their Facebook page because I’m nosey.The lovely pictures and interesting menus posted made me think it would be nice to visit for lunch,we are serious foodies and today would be a good opportunity.On arriving we were slightly early for opening time but a lovely waitress came out and took us to a nice table inside which viewed the garden.All the Covid protocols were in place but not over the top and didn’t spoil the ambience .The menu was so nice ,it’s not often I say this but I could have eaten any of the items on it.I chose a glass of Californian Zinfandel which was delicious ,hubby had a bottle of beer and we sat back and waited for the food to arrive.Service was really good and our starters came up quickly.I had the deep fried Camembert which was great and hubby had langoustine bisque,both starters were despatched in quick time and were very good.For mains I had the sea bass on prawn risotto which was great but I had serious food envy looking at bobs deep fried plaice with whitebait and fat chips. It looked amazing and he let me steal some chips and taste the whitebait.Again both dishes were beautifully presented and we cleared our plates .We would have loved the creek split for pud but sadly had no room and didn’t want to be too sleepy on the drive home. The bill was a delightful surprise not only was the food great it was also excellent value .Because we don’t live locally sadly we won’t be able to visit in a regular basis but if we lived nearer we definitely would.

They have a diverse but limited set menu here, although the staff were happy to adapt the menu for preferences and dietary needs. The restaurant was well spaced to adhere to social distancing measures. It was quite empty but the staff were attentive and helpful throughout. The food was full of flavour and great effort had been put in to developing the menu. Highly recommended.

I had the pleasure of enjoying an imaginative menu after a few days of sea side junk food. The salmon mouse starter on a crumpet was delicious, followed by beer battered cod and hand cooked crispy chips. The desert was a mango panna cotta with a texture and set that was spot on. All this at a very reasonable £34 including a Peroni. Located between Clacton and Colchester its worth a visit if you are fed up with pizza and the like and want to get out in the country.

Plenty of parking. Lovely cosy interior. This restaurant is pricey but worth it for a special occasion. Excellent food and great menu choice.

Went here for Dad’s birthday meal . We have always been here in the past for celebrations and events , were once again not disappointed by the service we got . Food was lovely and well made . Friendly restaurant manager and waitress . They helped make my Dad’s birthday very special and also organised with my sister living abroad to hand dad a voucher paid for by her to pay for all of your meals . Unplanned stop for Sunday lunch - what a find! Lovely setting, clean & contemporary inside. We had Roast Beef and Slow Roasted Pork Belly, followed by Peanut Butter Cheesecake and New York Sundae - all absolutely delicious. The rest of the menu looked fabulous too. Great, friendly service. Will make a return visit.

Just had a splendid lunch with my family. Menu was enticing, and it delivered 100% in terms of presentation and taste. Service was very friendly and responsive. Atmosphere comfortable. Have driven past on many occasions and should have stopped sooner! Lucky to have such a good restaurant so close to home. We will be back and can highly recommend it.

Passed this on so many occasions, but dropped in on the off-chance, it's worth a trip all of it's own. Staff are warm & friendly, great atmosphere and the food and drink selection excellent. Treat yourselves.

Situated on a bit of a back road you need to make the effort to eat here, but it is completely worth it. The ambience is pleasant and the staff are appropriately friendly, attentive and efficient. At a glance, the menu offers nothing exotic, just run of the mill choices- pork, chicken, steak, salmon seabass etc. Don't be fooled. What raises The Creek well above the ordinary is the care that goes into the selection and cooking of every element of each dish. The steak comes with onion rings, chips, tomato and mushrooms, each cooked to perfection and full of flavour, creating a course that is superb. We eat out frequently in the Colchester area and can't think of anywhere that is currently better. Highly recommend that if you can, you give The Creek a try.

This restaurant was right up there as one of my most enjoyable dining experiences. I had been wanting to visit for some time, so was full of anticipation.A warm and friendly welcome, and the menu offers a wide range of dishes that cater for everyone. There are also daily specials.Our starters were delicious. My friends chose a generous prawn cocktail and a brown crab rarebit (which was a great combination with mature cheese). My mushroom and chestnut soup was amazing. Our main course choice was delightful - slow roasted pork belly with root vegetables and I had to pick an extra tasty side - creamed leeks and cabbage which complemented hugely.The tempting range of desserts are hard to resist, but I chose a terrific cheese plate.Terry and Caroline Howard source their ingredients locally, so the produce if fresh and of an exceptionally high standard.Wine prices are reasonable, and are intriguing as they are wines you won’t find on supermarket shelves- so a unique selection.I highly recommend The Creek. I definitely hope to return in the future. Pre booked a table for 8 people and was told on ordering there were limitations on the food available. Seemed to have run out of a lot of food. Was told the list of what we couldn't have which was embarrassing as had bought work colleagues in after speaking highly of the restaurant having eaten there in the past. Disappointing as surely they good prep enough food for a lunchtime menu. Especially when the table is pre booked. Food lovely and service great. I will go back but I don't think I would choose for a group.

Read a lot of good things about this place so surprised at how few people were there on this sunny Saturday lunch However there was no compromise by staff or in menu choice and we had a lovely lunch with no pressure to leave .The starter menu was excellent .Very inventive and we all loved it so much by the Brown Crab Crumpet, the Fish Cocktail and the Meatballs All dishes were beautiful and so well presented. I also enjoyed a cocktail and 2 of us chose the.deconstducted cheesecake from the specials menu. Light delicious and a generous portion.
