Came here for the first time, with quite high expectations having read the TA reviews. All started well with Lisa, the restaurant manager being very helpful at the booking stage, making allowances for my 90 yr old mother.

We booked for Saturday lunch having been turned away on a previous occasion when most tables were taken up by a large party. It’s a relatively short menu complemented by a small table blackboard announcing the soup of the day and a plate of locally sourced charcuterie (choices listed on the reverse) with cheese salad, cornichons and focaccia, a sort of variant upon a ploughman’s lunch explained the waitress. Rather looking for a sharing plate of charcuterie to start I ordered instead a game terrine which was served with toast and a dollop of chutney on top. This came at the same time as my daughter’s fish and chips and peas from the bespoke children’s menu. And a very superior fish and chips it was too both the crunchy batter on the fish and the chips perfectly cooked. So impressive was it my wife was pleased in advance she had ordered an adult portion as her main which came with a sophisticated swirl of mushy peas. The piece de resistance, however, was probably my chunky fillet of hale wrapped in pancetta on a potato cake swimming in a creamy sauce with sundried tomato and samphire. A truly classy dish. A 175ml glass of Pinot Grigio competitively priced at £4.75 complimented this nicely. Double espressos came with crunchy Italian biscotti.

The Gribble Inn

23/02/2019: This is a rare find, a lovely old pub that has a proper selection of dishes for vegetarians. Normally we are offered just one vegetarian dish, but this pub offers quite a few dishes and all of ours were delicious. Pretty old pub, and lovely friendly staff. And my husband loved the beer from their own brewery. We will be back.
09/03/2019: Took our 2 mothers there for an evening meal end of feb as an early mothers day treat.

The Sir Roger Tichborne

04/12/2018: In a word, brilliant. They managed to somehow find room for me as the restaurant was packed. Having eaten the food I can understand why. The ham hock terrine starter was vast, the pork belly main exactly the same and all of them were exceptional. The portions are huge so go hungry, you won't be disappointed.
10/12/2018: I have previously reviewed Sir Roger Tichborne in its capacity as an excellent English pub serving great food and excellent beer with a very friendly team led by George.
