Ham, Duck Eggs & Chips ... very simple, beautifully executed and the ham was the best we've eaten in West Sussex for a long time. We always feel this meal is a perfect indication of a restaurant's quality ... and at the Crate & Apple it was faultless.

We’ve eaten here a few times in the past, but it’s been a while since I left feedback. On the first of our two recent visits my girlfriend & I came here for a light lunch & chose a couple of the sandwich options which we were going to share alongside some chunky triple cooked chips – fish goujon & BLT were the choices. Excellent sandwiches & amazing chips. Our second visit was with family for Sunday lunch, 5 of our party opting for the Roast Lamb (two of us did want the Roast Duck special option but the last one was ordered just prior to us sitting down – so ducks off!) & the other two choosing the Roast Hake option. The roast lamb was beautifully tender & the accompanying trimmings were all very tasty including the gravy – those that had the Hake thought was fish was very well cooked & the overall dish was delicious. Both dishes were very generous portion wise. Staff as always very friendly & knowledgeable. It’s one of the only independents & one of the best eateries in Chichester without a doubt.

Really enjoyed the meal I had here. Reserved a table for 10 with absolutely no problems and enjoyed a pint in the garden before we ate. The staff were very friendly, really approachable and happy to help.

We chose this lovely pub after having left a horrible one in West Wittering. The Crate & Apple's landlord was welcoming and friendly, as was the girl behind the bar. The interior decor was modern and lovely and there is a neat, enclosed garden with plenty of gorgeous greenery. A fabulous gin menu was on offer , alongside a good selection of wines. I didn't notice the beer selection, as neither of us had beers. We ate here too, not having starters, but my husband had the fish and chips, which he said was delicious. I had the pan fried hake, wrapped in pancetta, served with a spring onion potato cake served with a samphire creamy sauce...... absolutely gorgeous, beautiful white fish, cooked perfectly and the sauce was to die for! Too full for dessert unfortunately, but we hope to return on our next visit to beautiful Sussex. A lovely pub with great food, drinks selection and friendly staff. The perfect combination and a really enjoyable end to a relaxing day spent on the beach in nearby West Wittering.

The Sir Roger Tichborne

04/12/2018: In a word, brilliant. They managed to somehow find room for me as the restaurant was packed. Having eaten the food I can understand why. The ham hock terrine starter was vast, the pork belly main exactly the same and all of them were exceptional. The portions are huge so go hungry, you won't be disappointed.
10/12/2018: I have previously reviewed Sir Roger Tichborne in its capacity as an excellent English pub serving great food and excellent beer with a very friendly team led by George.

Riviera Restaurant

22/10/2018: Recommended to us by a local and we all enjoyed our meals. Good size portions which make it very good value. Vegan options available - my daughter tried the cashew paella which she enjoyed and gets the added bonus of the salad bar followed by the frangipane tart. My husband was very happy with his steak & kidney pie and opted for the roast potatoes and vegetables from the carvery roast. People who chose the carvery option were piling their plates high! And I enjoyed a fresh crab salad again with option of adding anything extra from the salad bar. We also had drinks and coffees and the bill was £50 for all 3 of us.
06/11/2018: We go to the Riviera Restaurant at least once a month, sometimes much more. The food standard never drops. They put new dishes on, now and again, and there is always the special board. The staff work really hard, and are always so friendly. We had to wait outside the other week, as they were so busy, but only for a short while. It is a bit hectic when busy, so not a romantic place to take your lady, but if you did,she would like her meal.
