Okay, so this place is really, really beautifully decorated. I went into the bit at the side that is smaller and it really was a lovely setting. The food was actually surprisingly nice. I had a vegetarian sandwich that was really tasty. I hate that they have now got rid of table service; it needs it. Also, the service is incredibly slow, which is fine if you are taking your tIme, but definitely don't come here if you are in a rush. The menu choices are more limited now too. There are a lot of cafes that this place is competing with and it needs to up its game. I'd suggest getting really good quality, seasonal produce and making a big deal about it and getting the table service back up and running.

I haven't been in this coffee shop for over a year. It was one of my favorite places at one time, where you had to wait for a table, but things have slipped. A year ago i went and scones were not ready for the 'coffee rush' at 10.30 am and when they did come out they were spongy and burnt. Fast forward a year and i decided to give it another go. On entering i was surprised that only 3 tables were occupied. I know that there has been a revamp and is self-service now (they maybe should have stayed with the original concept that seemed to be working). I ordered a cappuccino, filter coffee and a scone. We had no problems with the coffees, but as the young waiter was bringing over my scone and was about to sat it down he noticed (as did i) that it was blue molded, he apologised and brought the scone down to the other room, where i assume was management, for advice, they seemed to be having a management meeting as i saw them when entering the coffee shop. The waiter asked if i wanted anything in replace and i asked for a sausage roll. The sausage roll, I'm afraid, fared no better as it was heated in a microwave, meaning that it was not crisp pastry as one would except, but soggy pastry. it also tasted sour, so i had to unfortunately leave that also. So no lunch so to speak. I was surprised that the management who were undoubtedly having a meeting didn't rise to the occasion and come over to apologise. This was there opportunity to rectify the situation instead of leaving it to a young waiter, who was clearly embarrassed by the whole situation. The servers were lovely young people, but unfortunately this has done it for me, i won't be back.

Last week we stopped here for coffee, we waited for 20 minutes for it to arrive. Thinking that was a one off we went back today and ordered a light lunch. We waited for a about 20 minutes for the lunch to be served and then another 10 minutes for the coffee. In fairness to the lad who served us, he was on his own over the lunchtime period and was expected to wait tables, make coffees, prepare sausage rolls, pies etc and serve ice creams. There was no way he could cope with the volume of work. We were in no rush so it didn't affect us but for anyone in a hurry, it's not the best place to go.

5 regular and 1kids cone apparently means a half scoop for a child and 2 half scoops for a regular. £10 for 5.5 tablespoons of ice cream? Ridiculous. I even asked at one point why the regular ice cream cone had less than the kid's cone. At which point the server shrugged.

First visit since they reopened under a new name. Really disappointed, very poor service and tasteless food. Went for lunch, I had quiche which was just stodgy egg with no filling I could find and a dried up bit of lettuce, my friend had a salad which was just horrible. We them had coffees and the coffee was practically undrinkable. Two staff on who stood chatting behind counter and we had to go up to them three separate times. It is beautifully decorated but they just can’t seem to get it right. Disappointed.

Really really disappointed with breakfast at what is now called The Parlour. Had some lovely visits here when it was The courtyard but breakfast on Sunday was horrible. They now make you order and pay at the counter (probably to avoid people refusing to pay after being served such horrible food!) The toast tasted stale, the soda bread was cold and the poached eggs undercooked. Won't be returning here again.

The Courtyard is a nice place. Eating there was a pleasant experience, staff pleasant but service is minimalist. Staff are nice but don't do not go the extra mile for the customer. Service is minimalist, but in fairness it is a cafe not a restaurant and when I was there staff were all very young so probably don't have the maturity to be alert to customer expectations.

As a former resident of Bangor and a first time visitor I arrived with a somewhat apprehensive attitude. Immediately my mind had been made up as the lady who met us was hesitant in finding us a table when there were clearly spaces. We sat down and were simply ignored for 15/20 minutes so we left. Within this time several members of staff walked past us with no clue. During this period an older professionally dressed couple arrived and were sat down and served all within 5 minutes. We will not be back.

We decided to try this place as it looked very inviting. Coffee was ordered with a slice of cake with cream. They both arrived eventually. The cream in the cake had already started to go off. I'm a baker by trade and knew it had been sitting for a while. We decided to give it another chance the following week. The service was slower and the girl who served us was a nail technician from their beauty salon. We decided on tea for 2 this time with no cake. The almost white teapot arrived with tea stains on the outside and stains on the spout. Sorry to say I will not be back. Bad service, hygiene and a head waiter who was quicker giving out orders to staff instead of checking orders going out and customer satisfaction.

Why does this place still have customers? Terrible sloooooooowwwwwwww service. Staff couldn't care less. Took over an hour (AN HOUR!) to get our meal and twenty minutes to be served at all even for drinks (they forgot my daughters drink). The couple next to us ordered tea and bagels, they got their tea twenty minutes after ordering it but no bagels came. They asked the waitress who said I will go check but she never returned. The couple left without their bagels in disgust. The waitress was probably off dealing with something else I expect which is what most of the staff do, milling around aimlessly like demented crane flies. There were five staff looking after 12 tables but none of them could do anything right. I saw a further three people at three different tables complaining. One didn't get their coffee after their meal for a very long time, another didn't get their bill and yet another was up at the till complaining about some other issue that could probably have been avoided. The place is grubby and the food is average to say the least. My lasagna was obviously dinged in a microwave and my wife's goujons were very obviously out of a packet. In summary

Coffee and scones which were lovely. Then last week ... one girl trying to manage all the customers. She was very pleasant but totally far too much work to do. We ordered two coffees and two scones. The scones came separately and some time later one coffee arrived. Waited for the second one to arrive and it never did. Had to get up and go to the counter to be told it had not been ordered. A couple beside us never got their order taken and got up and walked out.It is nicely decorated and as potential but unless the owner/manager starts realizing that customers are priority and there is a need for more trained staff the cafes around about will continue to pick up the trade,

This place is sometimes recommended for a relaxing coffee and chat in the evening, closing at 10pm. We arrived at 9.20pm, to be told by the server that we could only have drinks as traybakes were no longer being served - we could see some sweet goods covered in cling film in a cabinet. Last orders were sought at 9.30pm. By 9.35pm, the cool evening air surrounded us as the staff had the double doors open while they brought in the outside furniture. On a positive note, the cappuccino was quite delicious. This was not a pleasant experience! We took my daughter for lunch here last week when she was home for a visit. She ordered a bottle of coke and an avacado sandwich. Coke arrived in a bottle and was luke warm so she asked if there was a chilled one. There wasn't, so she asked for ice. No ice either. Sandwich came and the avacado was rock hard and inedible so when the waitress stopped by to ask if we were enjoying our meal, we showed her the pile of avocado sitting on her plate and she went off to ask the chef if there was no ripe avacado......again, none. We were not offered an alternative sandwich and when we brought it up again when paying, received no offer of a discount for an inedible meal. Shame on the chef for knowingly sending a revolting sandwich out to a customer, and for serving staff not trying to rectify the matter. Two many other places to eat to risk that again.

We went here for lunch with our toddler today. The service was slow and pretty disinterested, and I had to request a cloth to clean the dirty high chair we were given. Never a great start. We weren't told until we tried to order that they weren't offering lunch today, even though it was on the menu we were given. By the time the "2 mins" to relook at the menus had become closer to 10 mins, it was easily 35 mins between sitting down and being served. I can't say it was really worth waiting for. My daughter's scrambled egg was dry and rubbery, seemingly over cooked in the microwave or similar. The rest of us had eggs Alaska with salmon and spinach which was so salty we didn't really enjoy it. Thankfully there is enough choice in Bangor that we don't need to come back. Shame, the venue itself has lots of potential.

Visited twice during a break in Bangor - first time we entered through the morelli's door and were served our ice creams then we went through to the courtyard to eat. We went in last night - Saturday and were told they would not serve us our ice creams in person but we must sit down and be served by staff. It was a good ten minutes, maybe more before they came to take our order. At least 15 minutes later the first ice cream arrived... I had asked for a child's cone but it came in a waffle cone. Ok, no biggie. Second ice cream arrived with one of the scoops the wrong flavour so I sent it back. Another 5 mins later the correct ice cream came back quickly followed by another ice cream we had ordered. Everyone had already finished their ice creams by the time the piece of cake we ordered had come. It was an absolute joke. Would rather go to the red berry or Caproni's next time! It's a really popular little place so obviously staff will be rushed off their feet, it's to be expected when there's a queue waiting for tables. I've never had any issue with food or drinks timing, always been prompt and I've never been left waiting for service. I would really recommend this place, definitely been developed in more ways than one in the past year or so.

We visited on a Sunday night two weeks ago to purchase 3 x ice creams to go, after having dinner in a local restaurant. When we attempted to enter the ice cream bit, the door was locked and the server behind the ice cream counter gestured at us to use the other door up the street which we did. Upon entering the other door we were met by a guy who asked us 'table for 3'? I said 'no' we are just looking 3 ice creams to take away' and he said, ' sorry our take away is closed as there are only 2 staff on'.I couldn't believe my ears... so, we could come in, be seated, browse a menu, order, eat, etc which would all take significantly more time and effort than scooping 3 ice creams and seeing us out the door on our merry way. It should be noted that there wasn't an awful lot of people in the café at all... but I don't get how they could have facilitated 3 x people sitting in, but not 3 x ice creams to go which takes a lot less effort and time.? very short sighted in my opinion, and will just make sure to head to Mauds next time. Staff are really lovely, do their best but obvious to customers they are in need of support. Have seen a deteriation in service since departure of some one I would describe as their maitre de. Customers return for the standard of food and the lovely atmosphere and decor. However would suggest a couple of changes:Cash only.....understandable in the early days, but should now have electronic payment. Have seen so many people caught out having to go out to get cash.Shopping area....have never seen anyone purchase. Area could be better utilised as waiting area, often people are queuing from till to door at busy times, those wishing to pay bill have to battle way through.Have noticed they have started to serve hot drinks prior to arrival of food, which means drinks cold by time meal served. Not a very NI thing! Suggest tell server drinks with meal if that is your preference.Seems they are victim of their own success.......

Went here with my daughter during half term for a wee treat. There are two seating areas in the courtyard, one in the icecream parlour and one in the cafe. We made our way to the icecream parlour only to be told that that area was not opened so we sat at a dirty table and waited for it to be cleaned. The waitress cleaned the table and took our order of an americano, a hot chocolate and a caramel square. The table was covered in horrible tea/coffee stains. The order came and it was ok, ladies at the table beside us had been waiting an hour for toasties and when they came they were all wrong. As soon as we got our order a crowd came in and sat in the second seating area which we had been told was closed! We finished our drinks and went to the till to pay only to see a very tiny sign stating CASH ONLY. There were no signs anywhere else and i asked the waitress why this hadn't been pointed out when we ordered as i never have cash! She told me that she was only doing her job!? I then asked what would happen if no cash was available, how would i pay? Again she got very defensive and told me she was just doing her job. Fortunately my wee daughter had her pocket money with her so we paid and left ... definitely will not be back, this used to be a nice place but now its just shabby and understaffed!!

I am trying to be constructive as this was my first visit. The decor and the ambience in the restaurant is nice. However, when we arrived we had to wait for a table which wasn't a problem except that when tables were free the waitresses were that busy talking between themselves that customers were being ignored. When we got a table and ordered it took @ 50 minutes to get a simple order of toasted sandwiches which were tasty. When I went to pay 2 waitresses were at the till and were that busy slagging off the manager and the shambles in the restaurant in front of me which was extremely embarrassing. Finally there was a sign up saying 'cash only' and luckily enough I had just about enough cash to pay. However, the real embarrassment was that there were some visitors from Southern Ireland in the restaurant and as they could not use their debit cards they only had euros and the restaurant would not accept these. This final issue is a disgrace as we are actively encouraging visitors from other countries to come and visit Northern Ireland and today we failed miserably! This restaurant has the potential to be very good but a lot of work is required at a HR and management level!

Courtyard bistro. This was our first visit and sadly will be our last! Ambiance was lovely, decor very tasteful and nice and clean . However on a very cold evening --2-3 degs outside ,there was no heat! A small electric heater beside our table was not even switched on! It was uncomfortably cold. My Starter was ok but my husband had a prawn cocktail with wheaten bread which we were told had been "crisped up" ! It was totally inedible as it could not even be broken never mind chewed! Husband had the chicken which was minimal and I had belly of pork which was very tough , took a lot of chewing! All in all a very disappointing meal in a very cold atmosphere . Room for improvement!

Three of us visited just for drinks. We waited 5 minutes to be seated. Then ordered one tea, one coffee, one hot chocolate. You could see the disappointment that we weren't ordering food. We then waited about 20 minutes for these 3 drinks to arrive. Other tables arriving after us were, in the meantime, getting their food. Why do places think they will get return custom if we are treated like this? The food and drinks here are good but if you don't look after all your customers equally, they will not return.

We have given the courtyard several chances as it is a lovely place and the staff are very friendly, nice tray-bakes etc. The service has always been very questionable. We arrived and were shocked and relieved that our order was taken so quickly. This time, we just ordered coffees and waited 35 minutes for them. After about 20 minutes a member of staff told us there was a mix up in the kitchen but the coffees never came. We had to just leave. I'm sure the problem is a very simple one to sort out and needs to be looked at. Very disappointing for somewhere which could have such potential in Bangor!

I can't comment on the drinks because we never received them. Waited 30 minutes for a hot chocolate and coffee that never arrived. Had to just walk out in the end. Please sort your service out. I'm unsure why this is so difficult for a simple drinks order.

Decided to go here for lunch with my mum and i won't be back. Ordered water with r lunch which took about 10 mins to come and when it did there was no ice, wasnt cold and the glass was dirty. When the girl was setting are cutlery down she preceded to wipe down the table with her hand as there were leftover crumbs from the people before. I asked for a dcoke when r food was served and had to ask again for it, when i said to her i think the server must of forgot (which wasnt in a rude manner) she looked at me like i had insulted her. A while after we had finished we got the attention of someone to order t and coffee at which point she cleared r plates. They made 2 runs to bring over a tea and coffee, y not use a tray? Then had to run upstairs as they had no teaspoons. When i eventually got milk n my coffee it was lukewarm so i sent it back.We then got to the till to be told we couldnt pay by card.

This place is so far up itself it needs to see how it appears in truth!. It gives the impression that its a very high class coffee shop that appeals to the upper echelon and christian hierarchy of Bangor!!! It sells pretentious tweed items and othere twee gifts that give the impression you visiting somewhere really special!..lol It does on initial appearance however have a nice decor and a nice atmosphere but when one looks closer you literary see the cracks !...Firstly i have been on two occasions and both times the cups were stained and dirty. As well as that the tables were stained with dirt in the cracks ! The service was slow but friendly. However the food itself was only average. We ordered a rocky road and other tray bake which were super sweet and sickly and we couldn't eat them . Then when you look around you then notice the decor ...the bear RSJ the wires hanging around ...the cracks ...It doesnt take much to fix these items and to clean cups properly! Its not cheap in there and they should take these points to improve !

I called tonight for a coffee and a desert with my partner, we passed two clearly unhappy customers on the way out. I had checked the opening times before driving into Bangor and in the window a large sign said Sunday 10pm. We stood a short time and a member of staff approached up and said sorry we are closed no staff and walked away.Confused I looked around to see 6 or 10 max people sitting at tables. I would have appreciated the offer of a coffee only. Very poor see and the demand is clearly there as we walked we noticed another couple approached the place. Be warned it could be open but not serving.

Visited here a number of times over the last few months. I keep hoping they are gong to sort out their service issues but this doesn't seem to be. The staff are always rushed and constantly looked stressed. Service is extremely slow and everyone's food and drinks come out at irregular times. Food can't be complained about but nothing special. Also the cash only system is irritating and questionable. Lovely decor but unfortunately service doesn't match. I actually loved this place in its previous location.

There are some things about this place taht are very nice which is why I have tried to to go there several times; nice interior , good ambience, great business model, open in evening etc BUT so far out of the 4 or 5 times I went, only once did they have gluten free options actually available & I was able to stay & eat. My pet hate - cafes that claim to serve gluten free options but fail to keep enough stock & repeatedly run out early afternoon even though they will be open til 10pm, leaving customers ( hungry, GF customers with rapidly dropping sugar levels) with nowt & even though yes they do have gluten free breads and soups the kitchen closes at 3pm so no hot food and no they can't toast any bread because that requires a chef....... So, please, do not make a big deal about catering for specialised dietary requirements if in fact you are not going to cater for specialised dietary requirements or there is a random time limit for when you might cater for them. OR maybe stick a notice on the door specifying the time such food is served & I will know to only call in then. The excuse which has been offered on a couple of occasions is that "we were very busy today & sold out". No good - have a bigger stock. there also seemed to be an issue with service - very attentive waiting staff who took order promptly - once I had discerned that all I could have was soya milk hot chocolate - my friend asked for tea and a tray bake - well both tea and chocolate arrived well after the traybake which she had almost finished & I noticed 2 couples nearby were the same - scones or cakes arriving in advance of slow to materialise drinks - a couple had eaten their scones & waited another while before their lattes appeared. very odd. Not a problem for me of of course ; I had no food to eat while I waited for my drink :-[

On a visit to Bangor sea-side town, County Down, Northern Ireland, UK, my wife and I went into The Courtyard (one time known as Morrelis Ice Cream parlour) for some ice cream. We are senior citizens, so we desired to have a nice treat while seated at a table, inside from the Bangor Main Street and away from the noise of the traffic.Well, we entered The Courtyard with high expectations - it was a Wednesday, so it should not have been like a busy Saturday atmosphere - but, no joy. There was a long queue at both the Ice-Cream Counter, AND, when we did take a seat at a table, we got strange looks from the few staff who were in attendance - it seems one has to stop at this two-up-from-a-greasy-spoon-café, and wait for a member of staff to designate a table! Crazy! We are definitely NOT taking high class restaurant here, folks! Just a Main Street seaside town café!Anyhow, when we were seated and given a menu, our eyes almost popped out at the price the Courtyard Café was demanding for snack meals like scone and tea/coffee - £3.99p! If one wished to have a piece of cake it was priced at the same £3.95p price. AND if, God forbid, customers asked for one scoop of Morelli's Ice-Cream to go with the piece of cake, it would then be priced at £1.00 extra - £4.95p for a very basic dessert! Daylight robbery! My wife and I left without ordering anything, bought ourselves two tubs of ice-cream, and ate them as we made our way to the nearby Train Station out of Bangor Town! We felt glad to have come away from Bangor with any money at all, and will not be venturing back to Bangor in the near future. Ghost-ship Flagship Centre, and Ghastly Priced Courtyard Café. You can keep them.

Let's start with the positives, this is the 2nd time I have eaten here and on both occasions food has been divine. U can recommend the prawn and avocado salad yum.Negatives - no children's options on the menu. Menu quite limited and had to choose something not particularly child like to eat. One toilet facility for the whole shop - stood approximately 10 minutes waiting on a mother to change her babies nappy. The biggest negative for me had to be the cables from the ceiling and unfinished painting in areas. I am not sure if I would return just for the delicious food

My mum and I visited the Courtyard recently. We asked to see the cake/dessert menu, we were told there wasn't a menu and were directed to choose from a cabinet across the restaurant containing some unlabelled traybakes and cakes. We both chose the lemon cake, and I ordered a soft drink. The soft drink arrived in a bottle accompanied by a tall latte glass (?), when I poured it and took a sip it was warm and undrinkable. I asked for ice, I was told they didn't have any, and that there was a problem with the fridge. The cake was very dry and the icing was rock solid (as if it had been sitting out for a while), we sent it back and we were asked if we knew it was gluten-free - this wasn't pointed out to us on ordering but regardless, I've had gluten-free cake before and it's not typically dry... When we went up to pay for our drinks (the cake was taken off the bill) the manager reiterated again that it must have seemed dry due to it being gluten-free.All in all it was a disappointing experience and I don't think either us will be rushing back.

Went in here for a quick lunch and chose `the combo`, which was the soup of the day and a sandwich. To my question what filling I could chose for my sandwich, I was told I could have anything I liked. I would have preferred if the choices had been printed on the menu though. The soup and the sandwich was OK. I see that they have taken in the down stairs now, something which off course has made the place spacier, but along with that I would like to see a menu with a greater variety of dishes. Also it would be of great help to be able to use one`s card there, in fact I struggle to remember when I last had to leave a restaurant without paying in order to go to a `hole in the wall` to get money out for to pay the bill. The service was very quick and polite.

The "new" Courtyard at the bottom of Main Street is our favourite spot in Bangor and a big improvement on the old one. The staff are extremely helpful and courteous, service comes with a smile, spotlessly clean, delicious fresh scones and tray bakes made upstairs on the premises, numerous refills of coffee, etc. Our favourite is their breakfast and hot food is served until late afternoon. Today, me and my mum went here today for afternoon tea! I decided to treat her just as a thank you. At £12.95 per person it was a bargain for the service we had and the food we received. I was able to pre-pay and booked the day before where we were given quite a large table next to the stove fire and plenty of room for us both. The staff were super pleasant, kind and went out of their way to ensure we were happy and satisfied. We received two cake stands which held two scones, two types of sandwiches, three different tray bakes and two mini cheesecakes along with unlimited tea. First off, it is very confusing which door to come in between the ice cream parlour and the cafe. After queuing to get a table, my partner and I ended up at a very small and wobbly table which was disappointing. The waitress that served us didn't bother to inform us of any of the specials of the day or the soup of the day which made my lunch choice very limited. Finding the toilets was a very confusing dilemma because I had to ask where they were as it was really not clear as where they were. When paying I did not see the sign about no card payments and had to embarrassingly run to the nearby cash machine. Also was VERY unclear where to pay once our meal was finished and we had to ask a member of staff for guidance who was really rather rude about the whole situation. I also thought that there were a small amount of tables for the floor space in the cafe. Staff were all rude and impatient. Soup was salty. Water was served in a coffee cup. Overall very disappointing as I had many of my friends recommend this place to me.

Customers on the inside pulling and yanking; customers on the outside pushing and shoving. After 5 mins, a staff member deigned to give her attention. She gave an almighty heave on one of the doors and it opened. She muttered something about the fire 'swelling' the doors shut. What a way to welcome customers! She ghen informed the 7 people know the queue outside with me that we couldn't come in because they were too busy. Pathetic!!!
