Fantastic Fish & Chips, best we have tried in years! The owner is very friendly and our meal was cooked fresh for us whilst we were seated in the little eating area . We will definitely be coming back soon.

Excellent Cod, Lovely Chips and best peas I've had in years. Would highly recommend it. £40 to feed 4 adults and 2 children, 2 Cod, 3 chips, 1 fishcake, 1 half pounder cheese burger and 2 kids meals. Good value.

Great little chip shop with eat in area. Food was really good, service fantastic and the place was completely spotless, from the dining area to the toilets. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and we will be going back.

Great find! We were passing, looking for somewhere to eat and spotted a group of cyclists eating outside. We came back along the road and parked opposite intending to get a takeaway, noticing the tables inside we decided to eat in. No regrets the fish, chips and mushy peas were amazing and we were able to drink our bottle of wine that we had in the car - glasses provided by the very welcoming owner. This was a treat and if we are ever back in the area it will be a definite revisit.

Great food and very tasty. Very friendly and the food was cooked perfectly , I’d definitely go back without any hesitation whatsoever.

I rate this 0 I have been in this chippy quite a lot first time of going in the food was lovely but after a while it started to taste not nice chips was cold sausages just warm asked for a large chips got a regular chips. 26/10/22 was given a large sausage but asked for a small asked for a burger with its salad didn’t get mayo got large chips which was right but was charged £2.50 for a salad I didn’t ask for so I got a refund for that Arriving back home put food on a plate omg it was awful chips where cold sausage was warm burger was hard the salad was brown in colour or to sure what to think not sure if I will be going there again

Been going here for years and never been let down - everything is exceptional but the chicken kebabs are simply amazing. Their service is equally superb and we’ll always be grateful to them for the weekend treat during lock down.

Fantastic food & very friendly service. I had a chicken burger, battered sausage & chips which was delicious & my partner had a doner kebab-which he said was one of the best he’d ever had (& he’s tried many) ..our dog also enjoyed trying it-although we didn’t give too much away. Thank you to the staff for a lovely tea on our recent stay in the lovely village.

The food is brilliant, we have fish and chips from here most weeks, so 5 stars for the food. However, they offer a telephone ordering service, but there’s really no point - you just end up waiting in the queue behind people who haven’t ordered in advance, so one star lost until they either give preference to people who pre-order or stop offering this ‘service’!

We went as a party of 6 and ate in. The food and service were exceptional. The fish and chips were excellent, will definitely be going back next time we are in the area. Well done staff and thank you.

When you place a telephone order you don’t expect to be at the back at the queue when you go to collect - please sort out as every time you are faced with this issue - I don’t want to moan as your chips are great and I wouldn’t go anywhere else

I am really fussy with chicken kebabs and have finally found a local place that does tasty junk food when i want a treat, and the cheesy chips were sooo good too.

Had an absolutely delicious take away meal, we didn't realise they also had a restaurant. we had been to Rutland Waters, took a wrong turn and found this excellent Chip shop by accident. The food was piping hot, the service perfect very personal. It was even delivered to us outside to our car.

Small county means this is accessible from most of Rutland. Without doubt the best chippy in the area, and well worth the trip. "Eat in" facilities are adequate, no frills, just enjoy the fish & chips!!

We were staying in the area in our caravan, the couple in the Caravan next to us recommend the Cottesmore chip shop. We decided as it was a Friday fish & chips would be our meal of choice! Cottesmore is about 3 - 4 miles...

After reading reviews we decided to try the chip shop ,so glad we did only a 5 minute drive from rutland luxury lodges where we were staying ,the food was absolutely amazing hot fresh and mega tasty,the best kebab and fish and chips we ever...

New to the area and found this has good reviews on trip advisor so given it a few goes. Have to say been impressed with the quality of the food and service. Nice for the occasional treat!

Not a great start . Ordered chicken kebab got home to find it donner meat and chips really disappointed had chilli sauce on it unable to eat it

Can't rate this chip shop to highly. The staff are so helpful, coming to open door for me as I'm disabled. The fish etc is cooked fresh, pretty much to order. Best chippy we know of!

I did not expect to find a top drawer fish and hippie so far from the sea. You had to queue for a bit but it was worth it. Excellent value and good service. Very generous helpings and piping hot.

The food was lovely but took ages to come. It is nice for if you are passing by and are feeling hungy but I wouldn't go again.

We were staying at a B&B; in the village and needed an evening meal. As it was a Monday night, the local pub was not serving food. However, the Cottesmore Chip Shop was certainly open and we were warmly greeted and encouraged to take a seat. We both chose chicken kebabs and chips. They were served with a generous helping of fresh salad and were delicious , hot, tasty and excellent value. What a find! Would highly recommend.

We are part of a group of caravanning friends who were staying locally and decided to eat our fish and chips in the restaurant side of this shop. The tables were quickly rearranged to accommodate us and our orders taken.

The guy Manning the register is super friendly and provides great service. For a kebab shop, the food is pretty good. It's fast and clean. Very busy in evening. A lot of people getting takeaway. Has a few tables if you'd prefer to sit in and eat. Prices reasonable.

Ordered fish and chips supper for group of 12 people on caravan rally at nearby Greetham. We phoned the order through and on arrival to collect, only a 5 minute drive, we were greeted by the cheerful staff who were busy cooking our order. After a few minutes wait they were wrapping each piece of fish separately and then the chips. A regular portion is adequate. Some of us shared a portion and that was just a well as the haddock is huge!

We are visiting the area and after reading reviews decided to visit for dinner. Good portions (medium is what I would call large), lovely ‘meaty’ fish with a light crispy batter. We sat in and were looked looked after by very attentive staff.

chips are very nice and so is the fish BUT... they dont do savaloy and their large portion isnt large if your from up north its in a tray!.

Me and my partner have been staying in Oakham since Friday and after along day out we decided to stop off for a chippy on the way back and after looking at reviews on here we decided to make a visit. Service was fab everyone was lovely and friendly asked for fish and chips and the portions are huge! Chips were really nice best chips I’ve had in a while and the fish was nice the only fault I can make is the batter on the fish it had no taste and was very thin apart from that I can’t moan deffo a good chippy to visit.

We are local to the village and can not recommend this chippy highly enough. Best fish and chips in Rutland....if not the world. Not only this but very affordable and friendly staff. We love the Cottesmore fish and chip shop.

The portions served up here are generous! A busy place, four staff, all busy including a happy boss! I ate in, read the paper, and generally had a well cooked leisurely meal. Easy to park. Greta stop.

Damn, but it's popular. Great chippy, well ran and really simple. Everyone goes there and yep, that's a problem when you are crammed in like sardines. What a hateful experience waiting for the best fish & chips in Rutland and probably much further afield as well.

The only downside of this place is the popularity! Best bet is to phone an order through if you are hitting this place on fishy Friday at teatime. Food is fresh, clean and very tasty. The fish is chunky and batter as light as batter can be! Chips are done with different type of potatoes to normal chip shops and I know the oil is regularly changed. Mushy peas are well screwed, homemade and deep dark green.

Ate twice from here during a recent stay at Cottesmore. Chicken Kebabs lovely meat really tender and cooked to perfection. The fish and chips were great too! Must be the least greasy chips iv'e ever had from a chip shop. Really good value and excellent quality.

This is our favourite chip shop and regularly buy Chicken Kebabs and Fish and Chips. Always excellent quality and friendly service. Writing this makes me want one tonight.

Great little village chippy. The restaurant and general interior is a bit tired but everything else about this place hits the right spot.

Havent been here for ages. Fish and chips are great. Haddock was lovely and cooked to perfection and was huge. Doner kebab with chilli sauce and salad brilliant. Plenty of food and reasonably priced.

Stopped at Cottesmore Chip Shop on the way to my hotel near Grantham. I ate in the restaurant area. The staff are really welcoming, there is a simple no nonsense menu and the food is terrific. Lovely clean and tidy seating area. Well done, I really enjoyed my visit,

Recién cocinado pescado y patatas fritas que se derriten en la boca. Usamos este chips cada par de semanas y hemos hecho desde que nos mudamos aquí hace ocho años. Los estándares están constantemente alta, la comida siempre delicioso, bien limpio y agradable, el personal competente que puede servir tan rápidamente que cruce los ojos!!

Takeway, but there's a small eating area for customers who want to eat in. One of the reviewers called it the best fish and chips England. Dunno about that - there's a lot of chip shops I haven't tried. But it's certainly up there, and certainly worth the the 5*s I've awarded. The only downside to its popularity is that there's often a queue and, as the food is freshly cooked, it can take a while to get served - it's a good idea to phone in your order.I hate the TripAdvisor category of "Cheap Eats". It's not cheap, but it's very good food and good value-for-money. I've been having a weekly fish-and-chip treat here for many years: under its present management, it's never disappointed me. Really tasty ,I had cod and chips , hubby had burger and chips and it came to £10.40 . It was cooked to order so nice and fresh , not greasy and plenty of it . The staff were really pleasant too.What more can u ask for?!!

Sorry, you may have seen other reviews I have made for this Chip shop. That is because every visit we make to the area, if it is more than 3 months I like to leave a review.This time I had the large cod and chips, which was freshly cooked and the chips were perfect. Everybody else had the standard size. If you love fish & chips, this is the place for you.

I have just bought meals from this chip shop and I highly recommend that you just keep on driving past it rather than waste your money as the standards have dropped terribly.Chips that look like last night's scrap and stone cold kebabs.what a same, as this was a place that I would recommend in the past.THANK GOD for MICROWAVE MEALS or I would have STARVED!!!!!

I've used this chip shop for over the past 12 years whilst working in the area. In my opinion the best Cod I've tasted apart from being by the Sea. For me it's in the batter that makes this so good.

I've used this chip shop regularly for the last five years and used to be five star without a doubt. Sadly on the last two visits the fish is far from fresh and seems to me to be cooked from frozen as it is very watery. The batter used to be light and crispy but is now very soggy. What a shame as none of the chip shops in Oakham are worth visiting. Sad to say but won't bother going here again. What has gone wrong?

Aesome place, great f and C, lovely staff, keep going back now so not good for the waist-line. Alway cook fresh bso be preapred to wait for a few 10 minutes. Shish kebab is also good.

I come from a fishing port and I am used to fresh haddock. The fish served in this shop was anything but fresh. In fact, parts of the haddock were more dry and brown than white. The batter was thin and by the time we returned to our caravan with it, it was soft. The chips, whilst acceptable, were not particularly inspiring. Reading some of the reviews for this shop, I do wonder what some people are used to. Prices were higher than average. We will not be returning. It might be worth travelling an extra mile or two to Oakham in future.

I don't eat fish and chips often but when I do, this is where I go. Perfectly cooked chips with fish served in the lightest, freshest batter. It's inexpensive, service is great and I've never had less than excellent food. Highly recommended. It's well worth the drive for those outside the area and there's also a small seating area for eating in.

we live in bedfordshire and make a 130 mile round trip approx every 4 weeks just to have haddock chips and mushy peas.this is our best chip shop in country. cooked to order and great big pot of tea to chat while fish is frying.only drawback is only four tables.after all its only a tiny village!!.i would suggest anyone visiting rutland water save splashing out at the posh overpriced hotels make the journey of approx 3 miles and realize what a gem you have found, CLOSED MONDAYS.

Cooked while you wait, they are piping hot even once driven home. I would highly recommend treating your self to this awesome lunch or dinner. The staff in particular wished my Grandad a jolly weekend upon departure, that was quickly passed on to grandma within 5 minutes of enjoying our lunch. They never fail to impress us, and they are reasonable on price too. Lovely, thanks

Always nice when you visit a place for the second time to find the same friendly staff, serving high quality fish and chips. Also a great cup of tea. You can take your own alcoholic drinks as well if you are not driving. Just wished I could visit more often.

Great traditional fish n and chips and a great variety of other fried 'delicacies'. There's a small area with tables if you want to sit down rather than take away. And I love going there with the little ones just to see their faces when the fish finger shaped like a real fish arrives. The service is as good as any restaurant and there's quite a queue some nights but that's what you expect at a great fish and chip shop.Highly recommended for the little ones for a treat.

As I live in the village I use the "chippy" on a regular basis. The fare sold at this chip shop is always of the highest quality. As the food is always cooked fresh there is a short wait, but the wait is worth it. I know that people travel from the nearby town that has three chip shops to eat here, that says it all

This is the classic village chippy. Friendly service, nice people and a few tables to sit and watch the world go by. Always busy on a Friday and Saturday, be prepared to queue and wait, but the chips and fish are well worth it. It's kept going by the service personnel from the nearby base (was RAF, now Army) as the village is far too small to support a chip shop alone so we are very grateful to the M.O.D.

The Chip shop is located near to Oakham in Rutland in the county of Rutland. Just 3.5 miles off the A1 road near Greetham (B668) into the village of Cottesmore. Take your own alcohol if needed, there are only 4 tables. The haddock batter coating was thin and very tasty, good value at £4.15.When local people take you to an insider place, you know it will be good.

Whenever we are in this area we always have Fish and Chips from this village chippy , the fish is always cooked to order and the batter is light and golden, the chips are fantastic, the staff are always very polite and welcoming ,the prices are also very competitive.

The fish and chips sold here are the best in the local area. The fish is always cooked while you wait. The queue each evening is testament to the fantastic quality. Well done - keep it up!

We called in to eat in when in the area having read reviews here. A nice welcome followed by non-greasy chips, light batter on tasty fish and some lovely "mushys" - what more could we want? The staff were attentive and in a way a cut above the average. It was interesting that generally they seem to cook to order, although we didn't wait long for our meal. Have already recommended this place to friends, and we'll definitely be back. Probably the best fish and chips south of the Wetherby Whaler .... and less expensive. Yes, great value too! *****

How lovely to find a village the size of Cottesmore to have such a top quality Fish and Chip Shop with an area to sit in to eat too ! Fantastic. Freshly cooked Haddock, chips and peas with a pot of tea served by very helpful and friendly staff. Best fish we've had in a very long time. How many fish and chips shops give you mint imperials on a little tray with your bill ? ! We'll be back, and you should call in if passing.

Does what it says on the packet! friendly, reliable chippy serving consistantly good sensibly priced takeaway (or eat in) food. Usually have the fish and chips which are always well cooked.

A great place to take the family. My kids love going to this chippy, and for me the place is sooooooooooooo clean, knives and forks are always spanking clean at this place... 10/10. This is our village chippy so we use the take away service. Pretty well everything is cooked to order and very nice it is too. Our favourite is the (very large) plaice.Pleasant service too. A real asset for Cottesmore.

This is a lovely chip shop. The food is gorgeous the chips are cooked to perfection and so is the fish and chicken. The staff are extremly friendly and they always seem to be busy at this shop because everytime i go there it's full. This is one of the best fish and chip shop i have been to. This shop does fresh,quality and tasty food it really is a little gem for a chip shop.

Although the only Fish and Chip shop in Cott it is of a very average standard, the fish is poor but it is nothing unexpected for an inland place. I would travel to Oakham for a better Fish and Chips although they arent much better!
