The Cork House Bar Bistro in Uttlesford

Extremely appalled at the disgusting customer service at the Cork House. The lady working was incredibly rude, who refused to serve a second drink! (Also had not been out for drinks prior)Would not recommend for a friendly outing, as ruined a beautiful summers day. I sincerely hope anybody else doesn’t experience this outrageous behaviour.

Lockdown Tapas. Ordered online (it's straightforward) ... Pickup at the door ... Slight wait cos Friday evening busy but heater is available. Very well packaged takeout box with recyclable containers. Recommend the chicken wings, meatballs, veggie nachos, chilli nachos, pork belly. Not convinced by the halloumi and brie... probably need to be eaten super hot. Didn't try the cocktails but looked good! Phone was going non-stop so recommend booking online and just adding message for any queries/special requests. Definitely recommended and worthy of a bit of lockdown love.

Looks small from the outside, but don't be fooled. All good things come in small packages. Friendly welcome, good beers and wines. Haven't tried the food yet but please support your local businesses like this, as they deserve it

Great friendly place, ive not yet tried the food but i will do at some point. Its small but dont let that put you off , and the staff are very friendly and make you feel welcome.

First time out since lockdown so knowing this place from many good nights out thought this would be an ideal place to try, from arriving Andy the team gave a warm welcome tried there new tapas menu and wow food amazing would say the belly pork one of the best ever had, place has been nicely renovated and still has a nice ambiance, G&T was flowing till closing time so me and the Mrs had a great night

Visited the Cork House for Valentines evening meal with set menu. The food was excellent and great service, will certainly be going back again.

Popped in here as we were staying at a hotel at the airport and very glad we did - a great find. Lovely setting and the food was delicious. Big chunky calamari and one of the specials to start (sweet sticky wings with chilli coriander), followed by two steaks, mushroom sauce and onion rings. All fantastic. Very reasonably priced and the service was great too.

Had dinner here tonight and I must say it was fantastic. Cocktails were amazing, staff were lovely, our server was great and the food was so delicious!! Have already booked a table for next month and can’t wait to come back!

Popped in for a late lunch around 2pm last Friday lunchtime; chef Michael did us proud. The chicken supreme in a wild mushroom was delicious. The squid side was fresh as you like and the pulled pork scotch egg terrific. Hazel said her pear and blue cheese salad was delightfully balanced. We shall return. Recommended.

Had a great time at the Cork House this weekend with a gathering of friends couldn't fault it. Staff friendly despite how busy they were and food fabulous, and such good value had the Christmas menu between us all we had I think every dish on this set menu and no complaints. Enjoyed so much Have booked for the new year bash.

We decided to give the Cork House a try for Sunday roast last weekend with myself and family and I'm so glad we did.From arriving the service was warm and friendly, which to me is so important. We ordered drinks at the bar and were then shown to our table. The waitress was fab, she was on hand whenever we needed her. There were other tables enjoying roasts too, so a nice atmosphere with soft background music.Myself, husband and 3 children all thought the roasts were lovely. Plenty of it and was offered more veg and gravy if needed, which was a nice touch.Desserts were just as lovely and all homemade, the sticky toffee pudding was a firm favourite with the kids. An added bonus was that the kids eat for £1 with every adult meal purchased and that included starters and desserts for them.We all left there with very full bellies and will definitely be back again soon.Thanks to all at the Cork House.

I went to the cork house on Tuesday initially for a quick drink with my friend. I had an Espresso martini which was made within seconds and looked fantastic! They have such a brilliant selection of cocktails and gins. We ended up staying for food as the menu was too hard to resist. Everything that my friend and I had ordered was with us no longer than 10 mins and was just delicious! Will defiantly be back and recommend to all my family and friends. Plus all the staff were very polite and welcoming.

Lovely place with character. Very chatty and welcoming staff who were keen to help. Prices were fair for the food provided. Sadly both the fish and chips and the Hake offerings were both just a little too long in the oven which spoiled the impression a little bit - no complaints about the cheeseboard or the sticky toffee pudding though

Went in here for the first time last week just for a drink after being recommended by a friend. Not far from the train station great selection of beers and super friendly bar staff. Had a look at the food menu also must make a date to go back and try the food next time.

Sono tornato in questo pub per mangiare un hamburger, ambiente caratteristico e tipico, buone le birre, buono il servizio ma l’hamburger che ho mangiato è stato uno dei peggiori che ricordi. La carne, se così si può chiamare, a pensare il meglio era uno dei preparati surgelati, compatti, che della carne non hanno né consistenza ne gusto, oltre al bacon nemmeno cotto.

Popped in here looking for a light lunch. They were serving their Sunday roast menu but were very accommodating and amended the cheese board desert into a sharing board for us. Beautiful cheese, well presented, friendly service, exactly what we were after!

Having attended the Supper Club Night on Friday I can only praise the fantastic food and a great evening had by all. Welcomed with a glass of fizz to start the evening and followed with 4 fab courses, such a high standard of food matching my experiences at rossette and michellin star awarded restaurants at a fraction of the price. We were given the opportunity to write our comments on each dish and at the end of the meal served tea and coffee with delightful hand made chocolate truffles all incuded.

This bar is only a small, but it’s still difficult to get a drink due to lack of staff working here. Over priced and uninspiring.

We used to come here all the time, until Charlotte told us we couldn't bring the dog in at weekends due to people eating, I myself run a pub and restaurant which we don't pick which days guests can bring the dog in? We respected this and decided to come for a drink after a long dog walk on a Wednesday evening, to which there was roughly 6 people in the other end of the bar, to which she said we couldn't bring the dog in? Honestly, it's the last time we will be visiting this place which we used to enjoy coming to have a drink.

We consider this our local, even though we live in the next village! Our go to place for a great evening out as a couple or with friends. It’s quirky, fun, you’re always made to feel welcome and they have some great live music too. A quick drink always turns into a great night out, can’t fault the place!

Been here twice now for the Wednesday night set menu. Food always amazing, service and staff I cannot fault. Will be back for many more Wednesday girls night. X

Must be one of the best burgers I’ve had in a long time. Hats off to the chef and my partner Kelly said her steak was fantastic with the mushroom sauce. Would highly recommended to anyone looking for great food with a great atmosphere.

We had a lovely valentines evening here. We haven’t been out for valentines for years but we saw the menu a couple of weeks ago and decided to give it a go. Food was really good scallops, pork belly and cheese (easily enough for two). They had a live singer Lucy Harding who was also excellent, complimented with friendly staff. Well done we had a lovely evening thank you.

Raining outside, cold and damp...everywhere busy and we found this great little restaurant. The staff were welcoming and helpful. Food was delicious, hot and enjoyable. A must to try if in the area. Would return.... 👍

Nelle vicinanze dell'aeroporto di Stansted dopo le 21.00 abbiamo trovato questo posticino ancora aperto e molto carino all'interno ma il parcheggio un tantino lontano. C'è un po' di tutto: dal pesce alla carne e insalate e dessert, io ho preso del pesce con cipolle rosse con asparagi selvatici su un letto di crema di cavolfiore e una porzione di patatine fritte e devo dire che pur non avendo mai provato un piatto del genere mi sono stupita per la freschezza del prodotto- la località non si trova sul mare ma io sentivo il pesce appena pescato- le cipolle rosse erano dolci e caramellate e la crema vellutata e molto delicata, i sapori si univano alla perfezione. L'hamburger doppio cotto bene e panino croccante, servizio ottimo.. più un posto non ti sembra all'altezza e più si rivela essere quello giusto..da ritornarci senz'altro.

We stumbled upon this place entirely by accident as our planned pub visit was called off (no chef - go figure). This small bar bistro must have challenges with the busy car traffic but it's well worth visiting. We arrived early in the evening, so bagged an upstairs window seat.

A friend and I went to the cork house for a meal on a Friday night. The staff were super friendly and very attentive from the moment we arrived to when we left but not intrusive at all. The restaurant area upstairs is beautiful, the tables are not packed together so you have privacy as well as feeling cosy! The scotch egg I had for starter was amazing, the haloumi burger was fab and the Meringue was excellent to finish with! Give the cork house a go you won’t be disappointed!

We planned to go for dinner on a Tuesday evening and when we phoned to book a table, the lady on the phone advised us that it was quiz night (which is every second Tuesday of the month) and so we were a bit sceptical but that didn’t stop us. We sat upstairs which was lovely and cosy and attempted the quiz but wasn’t very good at it. The waitress was so lovely and attentive. The pork belly to start was AMAZING! And then I had a burger which was very tasty and my partner had fish & chips which was also very tasty! I would defiantly reccomend the sticky toffee pudding for dessert!! Once we finished dinner, we went and had a drink in the bar downstairs which is really nice with a friendly atmosphere and our waitress ordered a taxi for us when we had finished. We had a lovely evening and will most defiantly be back!

Awesome gins, awesome food how could I not put top marks . Would highly recommend the lamb to anybody. Yum yum and had some spare was so filling and yummy. Great service too. Went here with a friend on a Friday night and had a lovely time. The food was superb. I had steak for main and asked for it medium/rare and it was cooked to perfection. (So many places get it wrong). Dessert I can highly recommend the mixed fruit meringue. The flavours in it were lovely. There is also a good choice of wines and cocktails which we enjoyed. Staff were very attentive and friendly. A big thumbs up, we will definetely be back.

I went there with my partner on a very rare date night. We had such a lovely chilled evening. We had a few drinks in the bar first lovely atmosphere my partner loved the gins. We then went upstairs for a lovely 3 course meal. The main course was amazing we chose the lamb to share absolutely delicious lots of meat. The sticky toffee pudding was all so very tasty. We would defiantly recommend and we will defiantly be back. Thankyou Cat for the lovely service

We weren’t meant to eat here but it looked so inviting we cancelled our reservation elsewhere and chanced that they had a table. Fortunately they did and we had a fabulous meal with fantastic service. The staff were exceptionally good, keen, polite and enthusiastic. The food was really tasty. It was a lovely ambience with candlelit tables and an extensive gin menu. What more could you want!

Heard there was a new menu and new chef so thought we would try it out and we were very happy with it. We shared the lamb for the main which was amazing. Perfect amount to share and a great quality. We then tried the sticky toffee which was amazing! Great menu and at a great price. Will be back soon.

Went to this really friendly quaint bar and Restaurant and experienced some amazing food at the launch of their new menu. Pork belly starter was sweet and crisp served on a bed of peppery mixed leaves with an outstanding oriental dressing that just left my taste buds tingling for the next course. Shoulder of lamb come served on a board for two which just fell off the bone served with perfect dauphinois pots and veg, jus was rich and tasty. Outstanding menu from a young talented Chef. Well done it’s not often to find such quality food outside of London and completed by efficient, attentive front of house team. Highly recommend a visit!

Popped into this cosy Bar-restaurant on a Wednesday night for the mid-week special set menu (+ 1/2 price cocktails!) Bar staff + Table servers were very polite and friendly with the food coming out very promptly after ordering.

Had another fantastic meal here . The food is always so good and the service the best . Always a buzzy atmosphere . Never disappointed with the choice on the menu . Kat front of house is so lovely and always has time to chat . Grace our waitress was really great too . It’s the service and those small things that have always made us come back over the last 11 years .

We had a tapas lunch for 4 to celebrate my sisters birthday....it was amazing...!!! A massive thank you to Steve and his staff for such great hospitality. We can’t wait to return.

I just wanted to thank the owners and organisers of The Cork House in Stansted for arranging the Treasure Hunt Quiz. The amount of detail and work that went into the event organisation was exception. With all proceeds going to Charity, the event was well supported despite the cold, damp and dank day it turned out to be. You cant beat wandering aimlessly looking for clues in the rain. It was great fun walking around Stansted bumping into fellow competitors looking for the same answers. A really good effort. 6 "Women of a Certain Age" - totally exhausted, argued out, frustrated "Man takes to Mountain", cold, wet and hungry but cant wait to do it again!!!! Thank you.

I had dinner at this lovely, quirky bistro with a friend and, as we arrived at 7pm, we had the restaurant, which is on the upper floor above the bar, to ourselves for some time. For a small building, they have a lot of dining tables and I should imagine that, when it is full, it could be a bit noisy.

Fantastic, smart venue and the staff couldn't be more helpful and attentive. The food was lovely, well presented buffet and drinks were great. If you like gin this is the place in Stansted for you I'd recommend this place to others definitely

We booked the Cork House for Sunday lunch to celebrate my birthday. There were ten of us and we had the upstairs front room to ourselves around a big table. The food was really good (and easy for my gluten-free and vegetarian daughters) and the drink too. Charlotte and the team made us feel so welcome and went out of their way to make it a very special occasion. This is a great place for food or just for a drink. As someone else has written, if you like gin you won't want to leave!

Very warm and friendly welcome and excellent service throughout. Each course was beautifully presented and the quality of food was superb - in fact the best meal I have had out for a long time. Top marks on all counts Cork House!

We are regulars at the Cork House and thought it was time to share this little gem with others. The staff, led by Andy and Charlotte are so welcoming and friendly as well as energetic and enthusiastic. How do you do that when you are on your feet for hours?! The food is delicious, superb presentation, flavour and portion size. Compliments to the kitchen staff. They change the menu and offer small plates/tapas also which keeps it interesting and fresh. They keep reinventing themselves with new promotions/events and live music plus an amazing variety of gins. Please don't take my word for it, check them out!

I have been here a number a number of times and have always been very impressed with the lengths the staff go to to accommodate the customers. Food has always been excellent with very generous portions and the selection of gin is great. My new favourite place to visit.

We found The Cork House by chance when we couldn't get a meal in our hotel at Stansted Airport. What a great find! Monday night is steak night, two for the price of one! I would definitely eat there again if in the area.

We visited for the first time on Saturday night and we're very impressed. The food was fantastic as was the service from the extremely friendly staff. Would highly recommend you try this place.

My friend and I staying the night at a hotel on Stanstead airport, decided to eat out side a chose the Cork House for its well priced and varied menu. It's on the Main Street, a very old timber framed building with lots of character and original features.We booked via table table, had a very nice meal of a sharing fish plater, ample for two, with chips, 3 bar plates. We were well full.The choice is not extensive but had dishes for fish, meat and a good selection for vegetarians.The food was well cooked, nicely presented and moderately priced. With a large glass of Shiraz and a large fresh orange and lemonade, plus 2 coffees all for £41.00.A nice start to our holiday. If your round that way try it you won't be disappointed.

Locale molto semplice, abbastanza pulito, buon servizio, la cameriera era giovane e molto disponibile e gentile.Abbiamo mangiato cheese burgers, discreti ma la carne era stracotta.

Wife and I went here and had a nice time. There was only one waitress for the restaurant, but she was lovely, just rushed off her feet. The menu isn't extensive but the food and wine were good enough and the restaurant was well laid out. Overall I'd say it was a good local place to go for reasonable food.

We went here for the start of my friends hen do and it's a lovely little place. Staff are really friendly and the place has lots of character. Reasonably priced drinks too. Great little bar. Will visit again soon. Easy to get to and train station close by. Thank you for a lovely time Cork House.

We have visited several times and as an affordable option to Indian or Chinese it is perfect. Always a relaxed atmosphere and never disappointing. We will be back again this Saturday.

Eaten here several times, The food has always been fabulous, the staff friendly and courteous and the price tag non-offensive. Upstairs is a small, quirky, sloping floor restaurant which gets you away from the hustle and bustle of the wine bar downstairs. Had bar food /tapas too many times which was brilliant... Does what it says on the tin.

We were lucky to have booked the last table for 4 this Saturday as the restaurant was packed. We hadn't eaten in The Cork House for quite some time and were keen to go out locally so this fit the bill.We got to the bar a lot, and the atmosphere in there is great; small, cosy, friendly and a very nice vibe. Upstairs, the atmosphere extended to the restaurant; Lovely ambience and relaxed but quality environment.The food was excellent; special mention to the deep fried brie and game pie! The service was also top notch. Charlotte, the manager, is a star; nothing is too much trouble and she is so friendly and helpful.We are very lucky to have such a great selection of restaurants in Stansted Mountfitchet; if you haven't yet tried this one, you should :-)

My wife and I visited The Cork House for the first time on Saturday and were surprised to find that we were the only people in the dining room, although there were a couple of people in the bar. At first we thought we had picked the wrong place, but then we had the starters and realised that this was exactly where we wanted to be! I had the garlic prawns and my wife had the deep fried brie, and we agreed that they were very, very good!For mains, I had the pie of the day - steak and ale and awesome! The meat just fell apart as soon as my fork went near it, and it was packed full too!My wife had steak and triple cooked chips and she was blown away by the quality - it was cooked exactly as she likes it - medium rare. We were so full after the mains that we had to say no to dessert - maybe next time?The Cork House is in an extremely old building and has wonky walls and sloping floors and is very cosy. If you haven't tried it, you simply must book a table soon!

I recently visited the cork house with my family for dinner and a glass (or 2) of wine. The staff were so very friendly and the food was so great. The chef even came up to check we enjoyed our meal, which I always think is a really nice touch. I shared a few dishes from the small plates with another member of my table and every single plate was so lovely. I would highly recommend the cork house for a nice meal with loved ones or a drink at the bar. Will defiantly be returning!

Enjoyed a very lovely evening at the cork house. Really good food from the set Christmas menu for our Christmas party. Brilliant service and a great atmosphere with a really good music act playing downstairs. Everything ran smoothly without any fuss. Would recommend to anyone and definitely for any Christmas party's in the future!

This bar/restaurant is literally on our door step but have never got round to eating here until now. Very friendly staff and wonderful food make this a good choice for a night out with family or friends.Will definitely return.

We visited the restaurant in Christmas week as reviews we read we're good and we're local but hadn't tried the food here before. It was a lovely intimate restaurant and a very pleasant setting. We went straight up to the restaurant but no one was there except other customers, after popping to the bar we were quickly shown to our table and drinks were ordered in no time.The choice of dishes was good and we were very pleased with our meals,there was an issue with the pepper sauce for the steak and unfortunately the meal had to be replaced but this was dealt with very well by the staff and didn't spoil the evening at all. Overall very highly recommended. Only slightly marked down due to having to alert staff that we were there and the sauce/meal replacement. I have to say the lady serving us at the restaurant was a credit to the place.

We came here having pre-booked a table for a Friday night. The restaurant is small and doesn't serve food for a very long time so definitely book. The menu isn't huge but as someone who isn't a fussy eater that's a good thing as it can take me an age to pick. The menu wasn't entirely the same as the one on the website so maybe it needs changing on there.We had goat's cheese, bruscetta, steak and ale pie and the veggie burger. Great portions; I couldn't manage all of my chunky chips and we were too full for dessert. The food was delicious, staff were attentive and the price very reasonable. There was a live singer in the bar downstairs who sounded good, but the stereo was left on in the background which was a little distracting. Unfortunately there was a table nearby whose conversation involved rather a lot of F and C words, but that's not down to the restaurant of course. We'll definitely be coming back.

We went here for a birthday lunch. It was pretty hard to decide what to have off the menu, the choice was so good. Friendly service and our total bill for two including a couple of beers and a bottle of wine was only £44. Looking forward to returning.

Booked for a pre flight meal based on TA information. What an excellent place this is. The service was friendly, professional and efficient. The food was incredible. Beautifully cooked and presented and would highly recommend the prawn starter, the burger and the fish. Would certainly return in the future and highly recommend to others.

On passing to visit family in Stansted thought I will give this place a try. A warm welcome by the bar staff especially Steve. It was great to also just sit outside and enjoy my drink. They had food on offer tapas I think but I wasnt hungry at the time so didn't try although was very tempted. Have to pop by on Saturday when I'm out with my friends.

We came across this bistro by accident, and we weren't disappointed. We had a drink at the bar, and then we were shown upstairs to the restaurant. Given a choice of tables (it was quite quiet on a Monday evening) we chose a nice big table and we'd been given the menus downstairs so we were able to order straight away. There was an excellent choice of dishes but they weren't all available, but we only got told this as we placed our order. It wasn't too inconvenient and we were able to choose an alternative. Although it was quiet we were told the food could take 30 minutes but it actually arrived in about 20 and this was fine. I had the liver and it was slightly overcooked, but still very good. My two colleagues enjoyed their food and the service from the young man in the restaurant was excellent, and the young lady behind the bar who ordered our taxi was also excellent. It's not a big place and I suspect it could get busy on some nights but I really look forwarding to going back again. I highly reccommend it to anyone as it's only a short taxi ride from the airport and is definitely worth the effort.

This is a small bar with dining area upstairs. We booked a table when we were staying at an airport hotel before flying, as it is only a few miles from Stansted. The staff were friendly and the service was good, if a little slow. The food was delicious and worth the wait. We would definitely return next time we are in the area. The only drawback is the lack of car park at the restaurant itself and severely restricted street parking in this attractive commuter village. There is a car park within walking distance but it is not well signposted.

This place does a good tapas menu and great trivia night. Other visits have been a little hit and miss.

A nice place to meet the locals. Very friendly people nice place to go and relax with a good English Brew.

We found this restaurant by chance after flying in to Stansted on a stormy night this week. The road to Stansted Mountfitchet is a winding country lane but the village is so quaint that it is worth the detour. The Cork House Bistro was meant to close their kitchen but still served us when we arrived half an hour later they still offered the full menu. The waitress suggested the sea bass served with a fish cake and vegetables. It was historic. The fish was cooked to perfection and the fish cake had the flavours of the various types of fish in the cake. It was sublime. The desert choices looked delicious but the main course was so filling that we had to pass.

Nice place to pop into for a few drinks. Friendly bar staff and a nice bar area with a good atmosphere.

We awere sunday after 2 pm for a late lunch. As we came in, there were no more a lot of guests there, so we colld choose our own place. I decided me for the "Shepardspie" and mineralwater. It was real good food, the Waitress looked good for us - go in and feel well!
