The Coriander in Basildon

After months and months of delicious food.......last night's meal was tastless terrible and watery .... ...I may as well have got the cash and given it to to someone in the street. I telephoned the restaurant and they were apologetic and will talk to me next time I book. Not happy with last night's performance by the chef awful

Excellent food with excellent friendly service. The mixed balti on the Chef's Special menu was spectacularly good.

We ordered home delivery in our anniversary day ,it was really horrible ,there is no salt in any of the items ,we hardly able to manage to eat this in our special day.. atleast they should not do such kind of minor mistakes for deliveries .

Like others say not bad but nothing special. The food was ok and the service was friendly but no music , no atmosphere and a dated restaurant compared to most Indian restaurants we go to.

I have been ordering takeaway food from the Coriander for over 8 years, and have always enjoyed their dishes, the quality and depth of flavour has been excellent until recently when I ordered a lamb Dansak, on opening the container to the lamb Dansak I immediately noticed that it was covered in a light orange sauce, previously the sauce had been a deep red colour, when I took my first bite the curry strength in the lamb was ok, but what was noticeable was the complete lack of general spicing, I imagine if you cooked lamb and just added chilli and nothing else, it would taste similar to this dish, Normally you can taste the coriander in the food, but in this case I couldn’t, if this is typical of the quality of food they’re serving up, I will be going elsewhere in future

I ordered a Lamb Dansak, had this dish before from this particular restaurant, and it was always very tasty, however the dish I got today wasn't anything like what I've received previously, on opening the lid on the meat carton I noticed the lamb was in a strange light orange sauce, previously the sauce had been deep red in colour, it was fairly hot, but lacked the normal spicing, I couldn't detect any coriander in it, not sure whether they have a different chef now, but if this is typical of the standard of the food, then I will be going elsewhere in future.

We went there for the buffet menu early in the week is great value. Book first as it can get busy! All the usual curry house favourites

Overall OK food, no one dish stood out, have had much better. Superior options in area. Staff and restaurant nice, positives end there. Certain flavours were odd when eating and kept coming back as though they were from artificial sources. Especially true of the tandoori meats, I recognise smoke flavouring. Nothing seemed authentic, disappointed. Left craving better Indian food. A real shame, I live nearby. Won't be returning unless I hear it's improved/ under new management.

Average food ,being an Indian by origin I cannot taste the original authenticity.Staff very more friendly with English customers than us .Price is definitely cheaper than other places.Looks like they have a lot of regulars.Yet I felt they are biased and felt it was more of a Bangladeshi cuisine or at least chef is not Indian.

Popped into order a takeaway, late in the evening, I believe they are open to 11pm. A decent curry, prepared in about 15 minutes. Reasonable price. Would visit again.

Visited whilst staying in the area for work... The food was good however service was lacking and staff were not knowledgeable about allergies or confident on the ingredients when questioned. One staff member suggested my colleague try it to see if she liked it... Not quite grasping the point.

The only bad thing I would say about The Coriander is the Onion Bhajis are over priced and small (£3.75 for 3) and they say you have a free dish and then charge you. This has happened on multiple occasions, so this is not a one off. The same with the free bottle of Coke.

Love this place. Fantastic food at reasonable prices. Great service. Recommend the mixed grill. In the week they do a Banquet offer of: Starter, main course, side plus rice or nann. Really great value. If you don’t know Basildon it’s a bit difficult to find.

Been going on here for years, always friendly, always good quality. Cannot remember days, but 3 course meal at very reasonable price.

Brilliant. We tried to go to the Mintoo which was empty and they told us they were fully booked. My sister in-law had told me about the coriander early the same day and we called, resented a table and walked up. So glad that the Mintoo snubbed is. The coriander is up a there for Indian restaurants all across Essex. Top notch.

Very poor attitude ,just because I had limited appetite and ordered limited quantity ,staff told to take away ,good quality pathetic

Have used the coriander for quite a few years now but tonight's takeaway was the worst Indian I have ever had. Not sure if you have different chefs since pandemic but since then the portions have got smaller and the prices are dearer tonight's chicken biryani was so watery it was pretty inedible we ordered 2 chicken tikka masala's only 1 arrived and had to go back to collect the other so other food was cold by the time we all sat down to eat as for the chicken tikka masala the first one we already had was thick in texture of how you expect a tikka masala but the next one was like it was swimming in cheap tomato sauce and for the prices you are now charging I think the quality should be a lot better the veg curry used to have big chunks of potato in but now just peas and carrots and onion. So all in all a waste of money tonight.

Let me tell you what i have experienced. I visited half an hour before closure to collect my preordered takeaway. Order was 3 chicken biriyani, one beef curry and 4 paratta. They haven't parcelled me chicken curry in the first place. Paratta was inedible as it was over fried. Chicken biriyani was horrible as well. When asked for a bill they declined and gave me a scribbled paper like it was all planned... They knew i was from a different town and i ended up with worst restaurant experience. I will attach the scribble along. Please never break someones trust knowingly when you serve food

Whoever said this place is good should eat in a decent Indian because this has gone down as the worst Indian I have eaten in.For the person who rated this, eat in the Zaal Lampits hill ,or a takeaway from Deliakash Laindon and then edit your review.

Food is awesome without doubt but some staff not polite when they see Asian face which needs to improve their attitude towards customer... End of the day, all customer are the same and should treat the same.. Thank you

This place has got where it counts the food. Tasty food priced well no issues in choosing this place. Would definitely visit again to try some other dishes. The place has decent free parking on the front and the staff are excellent.

1st time tonight the place clean and tidy I took my food home having had advice from the staff of what to try (didn’t want my go to to try ) The food was lovely and fresh and plentiful good cookery by the owner I suggest go off the beaten paths and try new dishes here you may be surprised

Staff is very friendly, courteous, and approachable. Food is extremely tasty. Good portion size. Good value for money. Environment is clean, not too big, but feels homely and cosy. One of the only places I know which sells COCONUT ICECREAM. Delicious!! It's a must try!! Didn't know about this restaurant prior to this visit but will definitely revisit. Highly recommended!!

Had been recommended this Indian from several people but never got round to going… until today! What a feast! The food was the nicest I’ve ever had and the value for money was amazing!! The service was impeccable… all staff were super friendly! Would definitely give top marks and will be paying another visit very soon!

Me and my Husband had dinner here one Friday night The peak of the Corriander: Value for Money Friendly Staff Helpful Staff Amazing Onion Bhaji The Pit The coco cola was not on tap nor in a glass bottle but from a 2litre bottle on the side meaning it wasn't very cold nor fizzy The curry's we ordered were not very spicy nor tasty

Have been coming here for several years now, and also had many takeaways during the lockdowns. We are always happy with the food here, the prices are good as well. Great service too.

Staying in Basildon for a couple of nights for my daughter to attend a swimming competition, we needed to find a place to eat at 9PM. I searched for best restaurants in Basildon and The Coriander came up. We both like Indian food so decided to give it a try. The food was delicious, served quickly and very nicely, prices were good. I would visit again if I return to Basildon. Some interesting conversations were going on at the adjacent tables which removed the need to chat amongst ourselves, entertainment is always worth a good review. Highly recommend this place.

As always The Coriander is excellent. The food is always wonderful. Service is very good. Definitely recommend it for an evening out.

Fantastic food, fantastic service. Restaurant was spotlessly clean. Even the toilets are immaculate. The atmosphere in the restaurant was relaxing and welcoming. My first time there and will definitely be going back and would reccomend 100%.

Sadly gone down hill just like the aera it is situated, The miserable guy/waiter is so rude & the food is thrown onto the table, unlike the chap who always stands behind the bar who is always pleasant & asks how everything is "Think he might be the owner"However its NOT just staff its the quality of the food which has deteriorated & reduced in size & prices increased, Needless to say i wont be returning.

My takeaway meal this evening was nothing short of amazing

We ordered our first time take away meal from the Coriander after seeing good reviews. Sorry to say not impressed at all. First we did not get the onion bhaji we ordered. Called them and had to drive 3 miles again to pick them up. What a shock when I got home, for £3 we got 3 of the tiniest bhajis ever, about the size of golf balls. The paratha tasted stale and the curries tasted like old oil had been used. Needless to say we will not be going back to the Coriander.

Ordered from the coriander twice, had a dhansak and passanda. Both dishes were piping hot and had good flavour, not too oily. Also appreciated the complimentary poppadom

Usually really enjoy visits here but was a little put off with the restaurant's attempts to comply with the Covid restrictions the tables were close, it was very noisy, some of the waiter's were wearing their masks on their chins or pulling them down when speaking to customers and leaning in close. The food was as delicious as ever but the above points spoilt our experience on this occasion

How some of these people can say it's the best Indian in Basildon,I don't know it's the best Indian in that parade of shops.All I can say is they have never eaten at a decent indian.We had mixed starter each ,so bland untrue,then I ordered chicken tikka Jalfrezi vindaloo hot, no, Madras at most raw chilli not alot of chicken. Side dish Aloo Gobi best thing all night. Mushroom rice ok.we ate in there about 10 years ago it was cold then and it was cold tonight no heating on ,air con blowing cold .I looked at the Corianda Basildon on the internet in the day and no way were those pictures of Witmore Way Corrianda ,I even bet the reviews weren't either. When they bought out the hotplates for the food they were cold in 5 mins same with plates stone cold after a couple on mins !.Food was not that hot and certainly didn't stay warm for long. Couldn't recommend it if you paid me I don't lie .Will not be eating there again.

One of the best Indians in Basildon! Banquet night on Monday and Tuesday night is amazing value for money and always end up leaving with a doggy bag! Food is always fresh and very hot. Service has always been brilliant and the restaurant is very clean. It’s a must visit!

Very good food and great service

I have been coming here for years before the made it a restaurant and it was takeaway only. Never had a bad meal. The food is always hot, fresh and very tasty. The staff and friendly and helpful. Monday’s and Tuesdays are busy as that have a meal deal for £11.99 I think it is. Highly recommended for all friends and family and they will push all the tables together if you need to sit 16 or more people together on one long table.

This Indian is the best that I have ever been to. We have been ordering from here for 10 years now, both takeaway and dining in and both services have never failed to impress. We honestly haven’t had one disappointing meal. The food is so tasty, the chicken is always so tender and all courses are full of flavour. When you dine in at the restaurant you would not think you were in Basildon, the service you receive is incredible, the food always come quick, the tables, plates and cutlery is always clean. Overall an enjoyable time. If you want to try somewhere new, most definitely come here. I don’t normally do reviews but this place deserves so much praise.
