The Copper Beech in Darlington

Saturday 13th a group of us attended and we were all looking forward to the meal. We all arrived for the booked time and ordered drinks. One of the drinks took a while so we asked again and it arrived shortly after. We then ordered the food, the starters were ok, the garlic bread looked and tasted like a £1 frozen one. The other starters were fine. The mains were OK but not fantastic. One of us asked to take it home in a takeaway box which they agreed. When paying we were told that it would be an extra £2 to take the meal home. When ordering one meal we asked if we could swap the garlic dip for a BBQ dip but was told no, it's their policy apparently. So we paid the extra £1 for BBQ sauce. One of the group wasn't hungry and agreed with a friend to share their meal so we asked for a extra plate but was told no, it's the policy. We offered to pay for a extra empty plate but still told no. We found this unusual and unfair. Drinks were OK but one of the glasses had a lipstick smudge around the rim which wasn't pleasant. Overall not a great visit, I don't think I will return.

Had Christmas dinner today at lunchtime. I cannot fault the whole experience.Good food,good portions, good pricing good surroundings and good attentive staff. My first ever visit.Very impressed.It's a 'Yes' from me.

We have been going to the Copper Beach for years, todays meals were not up to scratch. 2 of my friends are vegetarians and had the pie both said it was warm. I had a sizzling dish, it did not come to the table sizzling like it is meant to. And it was warm not hot! I did tell the waitress all I got was I will let the chef know. Last time I had a meal I also ordered a sizzling dish that didn't come out sizzling either but thought it was a one off, it seems not to be the case. If they are selling sizzling dishes on the menu at least make sure it comes to the table sizzling! Large party are booked here for xmas meal in December lets hope the meals come out hot! They need to have a word with the chef me thinks!

Had a nice meal, but watch the bar prices here as they rip you off drinking Lime and Soda. £2.20 a pint. Soda water is free in pubs in town and with a Lime shot normally 35p to 75p a pint. £2:20 for a shot of Lime is Ridiculous. You can buy a couple of bottles of lime cordial for that. Rip off merchants!

We arranged a family get together on our last visit back to the UK. The service was fantastic and the friendly banter with the staff was brilliant. The atmosphere was casual and relaxed. There was a wide range of meals all reasonably priced. Would recommend The Copper Beach to family and friends for a good night out.

My friend and I usually dine here once a month and up until now the food has always been outstanding and the staff pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately this time it wasn't the case. When the waitress asked if everything was ok we informed her no it wasn't the chips were not fresh they had been reheated. She tried to tell us they were fresh and they weren't as good as usual because it was between potato seasons!! As both my friend and I had worked in catering for over 30 years we know what reheated chips look and taste like - so much for customer service, shame on you.

Wonderful food with most excellent service - great prices too. Deffo FIVE STARS, two and a half courses each - starters, main, and shared desert - stuffed ! xxx p.s. very impressed with cleaning routines too !

We had a beef Sunday lunch as a take away. A generous portion of beef along with roast potato, mashed potato, carrots, cabbage, swede. The Yorkshire pudding and the gravy were packed separately. It was delicious.

Visited this evening for my sisters 30th birthday. Service started well from a slim blond woman very attentive. We ordered. 40 minutes the food took to arrive, but fair enough a few tables were in at this time so gave them the benefit of the doubt. I had fish and chips the batter was soaking and soggy but I didn’t want to complain I just ate the fish, I think the fish has been frozen and just put in a water bath to defrost making the batter soggy and wet. My brother in law had the risotto and didn’t think it tasted of anything zero flavour. My sister told the waitress this time was an older woman the problem to be recurved with attitude.”why didn’t you you say when I did the check back” my sister replied “he was outside briefly getting the baby settled” the waitress then took the food away and came back and said the chef was happy with that dish so wasn’t prepared to sort it out for him. Again in a rude manner. This was my sisters 30th and was spoilt by a rude and argumentative woman. She has been there a few years we know this as we do come maybe once every couple of months. Unfortunately last visit for myself and family.

The whole experience was excellent, the food was certainly value for money and of a good quality. The thing that stood out most was the staff - they were excellent - they accommodated us at very short notice - I am disabled and they rearranged the table to allow for my wheelchair - a disabled friendly environment - also the kindness of other customers was particularly appreciated. This was first time I have been out this year and it was a first class experience from start to finish

We booked a table for 4 with a young baby for Sunday lunch. We received a very warm welcome on arrival and were soon seated. Our drinks and food order was taken by a very friendly waitress. When the food arrived it was piping hot and such generous portions. My son opted for the extra large portion and my husband an extra Yorkshire Pud and they were overfaced. The pigs in blankets had been recommended to us by a friend and they were ordered as an extra and were the best that I had ever tasted and we had to take a couple home! We all had the roast beef which was very tender and all the vegetables including the roasties and mash were perfectly cooked. The gravy was perfect and just enough, no need to order extra. Only very small comment was that the yorkshires seemed slightly overcooked to me (a bit dry and darkish brown). We ordered desserts (apple crumble and custard), raspberry and white choc cheesecake, chocolate fudge pudding with cream and a choc melting brown pudding with ice cream and these were all delicious (sorry forgot to take a pic as we all tucked in and forgot). Including drinks out bill came of £83 which we thought was great value for money. The food was delicious and the service first class (all the staff were so pleasant and smiling). Toilets lovely and clean too (which says a lot about a place to me). Thank you for a great visit

Had lunch there today for my mam's birthday. We all had the steak & gravy pie. I also got the same as a takeaway for my husband who unfortunately couldn't make it. It was fabulous. Excellent warm friendly service - they really could not do enough for you. The meal was piping hot very fresh and so tasty. I have a thing about gristle - so wasn't sure about ordering it - but I shouldn't have worried. It was so lean with lots of Gravy. The whole experience was so good that I won't hesitate to go there again. I also took my mam there for mother's day this year and - again - although we all had the Sunday roast that day - it was second to none THANKYOU SO VERY MUCH 5☆☆☆☆☆ all the way 🤣🤣🤣

Food is always top notch. Nicest parmo in town. Friendly, happy staff who were very attentitive and kept us updated. Hadn't been in 2-3 years (due to living away) so this time tried a tequila sunrise cocktail, also good👌🏻

Ordered Sunday lunch to collect, waited 30 minutes longer than the arranged time to collect, service was shocking. To get home and find the food was disgusting, rock hard beef, looked like it was scraps of other peoples plates, lumpy mash & the Yorkshire's pudding was like cardboard. Never eating here again

Had a lovely meal and was able to take advantage of the 50% off scheme saving £48. Plenty of hand sanitiser available, a one way system through the restaurant and plenty of space between the tables to be able to keep to 2m distance.The food came out hot and was tasty with no complaints. The indulgent shakes were a particular favourite and at 50% off only cost £1.50 each - even at the full price of £3 they are worth it. As always the chips were amazing!

We have just come home after having a meal at this pub/ restaurant using the government eat out to help out schemeIt’s close to where my daughter lives so I have eaten here several times before I’m pleased to say all of our group enjoyed every bite We also felt safe as Covid rules are maintained well We had several people serving us but they worked well together as a team and without exception where very pleasant but also prompt with their delivery of both our food and drinks All in all a nice evening meal worth giving it a try

Came here for a family meal sanitize hands when you first go In and you wait to be seated we came 30 minutes early and was advised that our table was available so.good start food excellent fast efficient service drinks service was fast and efficient only gripe I have is that a group of about 10 to 15 ladies on the next table to us were getting pretty rowdy and the drink was flowing and this group of ladies had a total disregard for the one the system whilst going to the toilet o numerous occasions and a waitress witnessed this several times and at no point did she intervene and reprimand them for disobeying the one way system whilst the rest of the customers were obeying to this should have really been policed to ensure that people are obeying the rules other than that was a fantastic experience

Under current climate had to book a table but only rang a few hours earlier to be accommodated.Had a starter (but forgot to take a snap). Ordered potato skins, garlic mushrooms and garlic and herb doe balls to share amongst the 3 of us. Mushroom were very tasty but hard to share as it comes with a creamy sauce, only got two potato skins but were easy enough to cut and share.Mains as you see: full deep pan Parmo, 1/2 Parmo and a chicken supreme (half and half)The meal and service was excellent throughout and would recommend for anyone to pay a visit.

Wasn't sure what to expect as sometimes Pub food can be a bit grim. This was absolutely delicious, big portions (we needed a doggy bag) and the staff were lovely. Good value too. Would definitely go again.

Went just before Valentine’s Day as I’m in catering and am always working the staff were fantastic from the minute we got there 2 lovely ladies. Will definitely be going again

Wow, was a little dubious about this restaurant as it’s a little dark and dreary to look at but first impressions are sometimes wrong and in this case I was very wrong.The staff were all friendly and very efficient, we turned up an hour early and they still accommodated us. Drinks orders were taken promptly and food order was taken quickly as well even though we had been advised there may be a delay because we were so early.The food was served quickly and politely. Thai fish cakes starters were massive and delicious, the garlic mushrooms was a bit of a let down, loads of sauce but hardly any mushrooms.The roast dinners are massive (don’t think we needed the starters really) the beef was so tender and everything was just lovely. Possibly one of the best roast dinners ever.TIP: leave room for desserts as these are just awesome and the one with the cinnamon icecream was just gorgeous but the apple pie sundae was amazing as well.Highly recommend the Copper Beech and we will be back when we visit Darlington again in June.

Six of us booked for evening meal. We had not been for a while but nothing changed. Warm welcome table ready for us. Drinks order taken and delivered quickly. Given time to look at menu then order taken. Food as always very nicely cooked, presented and tasty. Six different meals with empty plates says it all. Booking advised as people where being turned away due to it being so popular.

Passed this pub for nearly 50 years and finally visited !!! What a Sunday lunch you get here !! No nonsense proper home cooked food, lashings of gravy and crackling to die for, The staff were very attentive and timely and very reasonably priced, Overall well worth a visit

Just been for sunday lunch we got 2 beef dinners extra gravy and pigs in blankets portions are excellent really tasty food aswell my partner had a coffee and a gin and tonic I had a pint of coke as I was driving excellent service and worth the £31.50 I paid this is the 3rd time I have been for a meal absolutely fantastic food and made to feel welcome keep up the good work highly recommended make sure you book a table as people were getting turned away due to no spare tables

Dining for my nieces birthday with family. 3 of us arrived 10 minutes before our booking and informed the lady behind the bar in the restaurant. We were met with "two secs" from the lady who obviously had a rough day. I remarked to a member of my family that it was nice to be happy in a job, to which this lady snapped back "ive gotta be 2 secs, ok?". Maybe I shouldn't have made that remark to my family member, but i had not experienced a good first impression. We were asked if we could wait by a second person - not a problem as we were early - while she prepared and rest our table.

We went to the Copper Beech for our Christmas lunch this year. There were 19 work colleagues and what an excellent lunch it was. Pre-ordered the food with a choice between Turkey, Beef or Butternut Squash. I had the beef and it was superb, plenty on the plate, enough gravy too and piping hot. Everyone enjoyed the food and most struggled to finish it. Was the best Christmas lunch I've had with work. Comfortable surroundings and pretty good service on a busy lunch time.

Great meal with freinds staff were helpful with orders. Food was good there was no rush. Pleasant place to eat.

We was a party of 9 and we had the Christmas fayre menu at the copper beech and what can I say wow 3 course £17.95 absolutely gorgeous food the staff were amazing and couldn't do enough for our party thank you to the kitchen staff and to Ryan and the front of house team for great food and hospitality

Had been here on several other occasions, has always been great friendly service, made to feel welcome and the choice of food excellent. Everything iv ever had has been home cooked, tasty, generous and great value. Went to the copper beach for the first time yesterday for roast dinner. Had roast beef with a selection of vegetables, roast potatoes, mash and home made Yorkshires with lovely gravy. Service was quick, roast was gorgeous and came fresh and hot. Will be coming here many more Sundays as well as enjoying the great week day menu. Highly recommended

Would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for a slight hiccup with my mum's dietary requirement, which the landlady did well to compensate for. Apart from that the food and service was excellent, will definitely be going again

Been here many many times , food has always been good. Tonights food was not the best. One of us had the fish and chips and the batter was a bit under cooked and very thick, had this before and it wasn't the usual standard. The sweet and sour used to have batter on the chicken ordered this time and wasn't any!

Visited with my wife on a Sunday.What can I say about this wonderful pub!!.I have so many positive comments that I would probably run out of space. My wife spent a good 15 minutes looking over the menu. There were so many delicious choices we really did struggle to make our final choices. We were on holiday so this was our last meal out of our break but we really wish we had discovered this pub earlier. My wife being from Middlesbrough we opted for 2 chicken parmesans ☺.... Both our meals were superb with the mix of butterfly chicken, melted cheese, bechamel sauce and breadcrumb being outstanding. The homemade chips were truly awesome... Honestly.... Being a chip lover you will never taste better!large and of a deep brown colouring they tasted tremendous even without salt and vinegar. We had half portions and they still filled us up. Last word goes to our really friendly waitress who was very informative and welcoming....not sure of her name but I'm sure she was an army wife. Her service was not too intruding but as someone who had restaurants and pubs for over 25 years I would never hesitate to employ her. Pricing is fantastic on menu and for lager lovers like my wife and I there is a choice of San Miguel or Birra Moretti on draught.... We will definitely be back. We'll worth the visit and will be back when I Darlington. First Class Pub

We had a family get together here, 29 of us and the staff done well. We were all served pretty much at the same time. The food was good hearty pub grub, thoroughly enjoyed this place. Two big bars, getting served not a problem.

My husband and I visited for the first time on a Saturday afternoon on the recommendation of friends. The restaurant was really busy and even though we hadn't booked, we were quickly shown to a table by Maria, the restaurant manager, whose customer service is faultless. After viewing the very extensive menu we chose two main dishes for £12, then we finished with two desserts and a latte and cappuccino. The bill which included a soft drink and a pint came to just over £32, which is amazing value. Due to Maria and her team we will definitely return but will book a table next time.

Went to the Copper Beech for Sunday lunch and I must say it was probably the best I've had! You get absolutely loads of meat and the potato/veg was spot on. Really good value, lovely staff and great food. What more could you want?

First time at copper beech and did not disappoint at all, went with my daughter and both of us left full and with food still on the plate lol I had Cajun chicken with rice and chips and my daughter had chicken with peppercorn sauce , yes there was a bit of a wait but well worth it x fresh, succulent and piping hot 5* and hope to go back soon x thank you to all the wonderful staff xxx

First time here for a meal, tried the Chicken Parmo and I have to say this is one of the worst I have ever eaten. The chips and salad were fine but it has to be the thinnest Parmo I have ever seen. It must have gone through a mangle or run over by a steam roller. The white sauce was sparse and the cheese was over cooked making it look brown in colour. I would highly recommend that you DO NOT try it as you will be not happy. I ate it all because I was very hungry otherwise it would have been left for the bin. If you want a real Parmo then try The Blue Bell at Eaglescliffe, or The Open Jar in Norton village or The Parkwood Hotel in Stockton. Very very disappointed ☹️ If The Parmo Hunters visited this pub then I think it would be taken off the menu.

Busy lunch time but only 4 meals came from the kitchen in 30 minutes, maybe they were short staffed. My lasagna was lovely but my husbands 12oz. battered cod was made up of two tasteless pieces with thick greasy batter, the grease running on the plate. The worst cooked piece of fish ever after being recommended. The staff were very polite & efficient but will not hurry back.
