Great locals pub but also welcoming to all. Good range of drinks and lovely new food menu …many hours spent in the Compasses (maybe too many) but always a friendly , no issues, safe environment to enjoy a pint or 2….5⭐️

Just had lasagne and a steak pie for lunch. Have to say it was fab. Thanks Tony will be having again. New menu must be tried by all !

The Compasses is a lovely friendly pub that me and my husband love to go to on Wednesday nights, for their excellent quiz nights. Staff are lovely and approachable. The landlord, Tony is brilliant. Always makes us feel very welcome, greeting us every week. Makes the quiz nights very entertaining and we look forward to greeting all staff members every week. Food is delicious and drinks are fairly reasonable and cheap within the area. We would definitely recommend!

Had a great meal, good variety of choice on the menu. All meals were served piping hot and in good time. Lovely, friendly staff. Quiz night on Wednesday which was good fun!

Friendliest adults pub in Abbots Langley. Landlord serves Landlord and many other great ales and lagers. Tony runs a very friendly and well run pub with a great beer garden in appropriate season and the food is a great standard too. Memorable visits!

Fancied popping out for a roast dinner Sunday. We were pleased with the dinners here. Very good value and quality, plenty of the trimmings you’d hope for.

Spent an evening here. It is a lovely pub. Food was delicious, we had the pie with chips and the fish n chips. Bar staff were very friendly. Great atmosphere.

we found this fantastic pub after our Harry Potter studio tour. We were a party of 5 .we had a variety of starters and main courses.the service was fast and very prompt . the food was fantastic and we sat outside under cover on their large covered patio area .amazing atmosphere and very relaxed . 10 out of 10 .we will definitely return if we are in the area .

Fab food in the clean and spacious beer garden. All nicely lit up and a great atmosphere. The food was hot and fresh and the staff were so friendly. Definitely recommend.

We are not locals but visit here once every two or three weeks. In our experience the food is excellent, much of it is home cooked and good value. Over time we have eaten various options from the menu and never been disappointed . The staff are friendly and service is efficient. We have given this top marks because it is excellent for what it is. Its not a restaurant but a local pub with great food and a separate dining room if you wish to with great food

I had a lovely dinner but the sign was spelt wrong. It’s supposed to be The compasses but it was spelt The ompasses. It ruined my experience but the staff were polite and the food was nice, sadly I went home distraught after the sign incident

Great for football. Enough screens so any music does not interfere. The other pub nearby cannot work out that 99% of people would prefer a major game rather than a championship one, without music blasting as well!

Stopped for dinner after visiting Harry Potter Studio Tour. We rang and checked if had a table and kindly held one for us. Nice selection on the menu and good prices. Big portions of food and was very tasty. Service was a little slow is only thing but they were really friendly. Will definitely stop here again for dinner next time we visit the studios!

Really nice little pub that serves some really nice dishes accompanied by a great selection of drinks! The staff here are also very quick, friendly and efficient! They go over and under to ensure they deliver the best service. They definitely deserve 5 stars!

Very nice food. I tried the sausage and onion baguette ( plus cheese which I requested ) as recommended by the member of staff who was working which was very tasty. The nachos were good too. I highly recommend trying it

Although this did not seem like a busy evening, rather a disappointing experience, Staff do not exactly fall over backwards in terms of hospitality, with food so-so and service so slow!

Quite often come for the Wednesday night quiz night which I love! I haven’t accessed the garden sea yet but would like to next time. I had a portion of chips last time I was in and I’m happy to say that at this pub you get a decent sized portion and they were fab!

Excellent large garden for a nice refreshing drink.

Food is nice but quite long to arrive - waited 40 minutes, also often find when ordering hot drinks they are forgotten about and so we have to chase them. Waitresses are friendly but bar staff can be quite rude and unwelcoming at times during the evenings which dampens the experience. Quiz nights are well organised and fun for all

Went for a meal with my partner here on Thursday evening. I had the Hunters chicken and she had the mushroom risotto, with a couple of sides. The food was very tasty and good value for money. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly, and we would definitely come back again next time we are in the area.

Fantastic Sunday roast. Plenty of food at a reasonable price. We often eat here and the food has always been great. I would also like to mention how professional and friendly Lily the waitress is. She always brings the condiments we choose without us having to ask. Looking forward to our next visit for Father Day.

Fantastic family meal for my dad’s 80th birthday out at this lovely pub. 11 of us eating and we were all served together with yummy food & great service. Very reasonably priced too! I usually have a niggle about something when eating out even if just a small one but this was truly 10/10! Will definitely be returning. Thank you!

Road trip from the South West to Watford. Stopped here for a roast dinner, hadn't booked anything. Beef was a bit overdone but I think that was because it was the last of it. Everything else was tasty and good value. staff were very friendly

Had an opportunity for a sneak preview and tasting of the new menu at the Compasses last night. I think Tony and the team are onto a winner here and great news for his regulars and locals. Great food, great value, great fun!

Fantastic food and friendly staff.

First time eating here and I’m hooked. Pate starter and prawn cocktail was of the highest standard, followed by a roast dinner. Never had such a good roast dinner out. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. A proper home cooked dinner. Veg was lovely, not mushy and potatoes were to die for. I can’t wait to come back. Well done 👏

Came in this afternoon for a roast. Sat in the outdoor area as the bar was full today and we had our dog. It was warm enough with the heaters and was covered with a shelter. Roast was banging 👌 Best pub roast I've had anywhere in ages

If you’re a local regular then I’m sure you’ll get amazing service, if not then you get sullen looks, unfriendly bar staff and told to leave when others are still sitting there having drinks. Would definitely not recommend to anyone, the outside’ Prosecco bar area’ is just a leaky plastic roof with tables bolted to the ground. I’m sure the owners won’t care about this review as they didn’t care about our custom. I have never been somewhere and felt less welcome.

Went to The Compasses before our family visit to Harry Potter. No children's menu, salmon on main course came out under cooked and was returned, coming out over cooked and dry. Food was expensive and part of roofing outside where tables were came crashing down onto family dining next to ours. An average pub to say the least.

Speedy bar and food service. Choice of beers etc excellent. Food delivery very good, beats the plough in food quality. All 8 of us enjoyed the whole experience.

Tony and his team at the Compasses are very accommodating, efficient, kind and friendly. I have moved to the village recently and have been a few times especially during the Euros. Great Atmosphere, great staff, great beer and food is delicious. Will definitely be going back very soon.

Always made welcome. Eat often in the pub and never had a bad meal. Good portions and always cooked fresh. And good service. Beers always good with good and friendly bar staff. It’s always are first choice.

Worst meal I've had in years. So looking forward to eating out on my birthday. I went for the Ribeye steak which usually melts in your mouth it was sinewy, hard to cut. Salad was just a load of endive - horrible. Service very slow. Couldn't get a coffee after my meal. Will never return. Decided to support local business since lockdown, regret that decision. We were so excited to have our 1st pub lunch in months! Arrived & the board outside said “bookings only OR regulars” this made us feel very unwelcome before even setting foot in the place! Was told to go out back to garden and choose a bench, when we had booked a table in the undercover bit. There was a table in the garden where you go to to order food & drink. Went to order food & was told the kitchen had just closed till 5pm, the lady was not apologetic AT all. When I booked the table for 3pm nobody asked are you eating or that the kitchen would be shut at this time! Decided to stay for a few drinks. Went back to order some more drinks, nobody there to take order, stood there for a while & somebody finally came, they called us to go get the drinks when they were ready & the lady rolled her eyes at us!.. Whilst drinking our drinks, we saw a party arrive & getting table service for drinks!! I asked the staff how come they are getting table service & they said they do table service if kitchen closed, I said we had been there since 3pm & nobody had had table service since we had been there! She did apologise but we had had enough by this point & left. I am presuming this party must have been the “regulars“. Back to takeaway at home as we have been doing for months. So disappointed is an understatement, I am not quite sure how they even have “regulars“ tbh. We will certainly never return to this pub, just rude. Funny thing is, we couldn’t be more local!

First time with a roast dinner takeout and it was delicious. I asked for rare beef and it was cooked to perfection. Friendly service, ample portions, and decently priced too. We will definitely be ordering again!

Absolutely brilliant pub fantastic food fantastic beers and fantastic friendly efficient staff will be going back here as soon as I can if your nearby I totally recommend this place drop in it's perfect.

My son and I have been ordering takeaway meals from the Compasses for a few months on the recommendation of a neighbour. The first meal we had, a roast beef dinner, was very good, well cooked and with quite large portions. The second was Ok but the meat was slightly chewy but edible. Unfortunately, the latest meal, ordered yesterday, was not up to the standard we expected. The meat was bloody and severely undercooked and inedible. The veg and Yorkshire were ok, but the portions had been reduced and the price had been increased. This means we will probably not be returning to the Compasses in future.

My dinner was barely palatable because the meat was so salty that I could barely eat it inside bread and not at all on its own. The Yorkshire’s would offend even the most liberal tyke.

Due to current restrictions had a takeaway Sunday Roast. Roast Chicken & Nut Roast, both excellent. Generous portions & great value.

We had a nice meal after a long local walk to Leavesden country park Service was ok; just make sure you request a quiet table to feel Covid safe. Delicious meal with lots of cjoicey

Shocking pub. Rude staff and no personalty. Pouring with rain with a 2 year old and greeted (after ringing a bell to enter?) With a lady like she had been stung in the mouth. I have seen similar posts so expect no different people. Look out for the dates of posts as they are old with good ratings

The Compasses is a great venue, really good food, friendly staff in what is obviously a well run family pub. We felt very secure in a covid safe environment with all the rules being followed.

First time at The Compasses and it was a very pleasant experience. Definitely covid friendly place. We had our prebooked reservation for 17:45 and it was fairly busy, obviously a good thing as something must be nice right. Food was amazing, we had the vegetarian night out , portions were massive, so be very hungry to eat 😃. Service was great too, we were looked after very well. Defo would come back and recommend.

I can not recommend The Compasses highly enough! Having thought my husband’s 60th Birthday was going to be a complete wash out! The organisation, detail and amazing food, they put in to ensuring we had a fabulous time could not be faulted. Everyone in the party really enjoyed their food! A brilliant day! Thank you!
