The Coffee Tree in Derry

Coffee is the best in derry so glad they are back open again, I missed this coffee shop when they were closed, the baked treats are unbelievable

We are just arrived in Derry and this coffee shop was a few minutes walk from the hotel where we were staying. We enjoyed our visit. The staff were very pleasant and two good quality flat whites cost £5.60.

My husband & I were driving through Derry and were looking for a place to get a cup of coffee. The curb appeal & name caught our eye. The coffee was amazing and the pastry was delish. The atmosphere was relaxing & fun. The staff was attentive & friendly. I loved the heart in my coffee. You won't be disappointed.

We spent the day in beautiful Derry yesterday and chose this coffee shop because of its excellent reviews. What a wonderful surprise! We received a very warm welcome from the lovely , friendly lady ( possibly owner/manager) at the til. We were spoilt for choice with the delicious cakes on display - a very welcome treat after our drive from Donegal. Savoury menu also excellent. All the staff were friendly and helpful. This little Gem is a must stop for coffee and treats on a trip to Derry. It was a special trip for us five sisters. Thank you and will will see you again next year

Enjoyed the coffee and a wee treat. Very small place but it was good selection of salads and sweet treats. Nicely located on Main Street

The place was advised by a local guy. Very informal and pretty nice. Great for lunch or a rich snack. Good, delicious and big sandwiches and good salads. The brownie with added cream was gorgeous. Only trouble, the seats are few, about5 2-seat tables.

Sandwiches are huge, amazing value and great quality ingredients. The coffee is always the perfect temperature, not scalding hot like most coffee places. Highly reccomend!

I’ve been to the coffee tree twice now and I just love it. The sandwich special & soup. Oh my. With a flat white & that amazing bun topped with Carmel. Wow. I love it.. so glad to have tasted and tried. Service great. Glad Derry has somewhere like this now to eat. It’s that little bit different from the norm & healthy. Well done guys !!

had lunch here. had avocado sald type thing, not sure what it was called on menu but had balsamic glaze and it was lovely. nice coffee, great brownie but it's very small little place. Not a very comfortable cafe but staff and owners are so nice. would come back again

We went out of our way to find this place and would have walked by it only for the top rating on tripadvisor. It was so worth it. The coffee was 5 star. One of the best coffees in the city.

Super friendly staff. Excellent food - had great vegan options. And really good coffee, as a bit of an Australian coffee snob, I was so pleased with my oat milk flat white.

This is a great wee cafe, it's small and busy but we were served quickly and the staff are really friendly. Sadly we had just had lunch and only had room for a coffee (which was brilliant) as their food looked really delicious and the traybakes were enormous and looked incredible. Will have to return to try them out!

The Coffee Tree is the best little cafe in Derry. I am fortunate to work in close proximity to it, so I am a regular customer at lunchtime. Every day there is a different homemade soup on offer. I had a salad on my last visit. The salads are very good- particularly the vegetarian one with roasted chick peas, avocado, hummus and green leaves with a wonderful balsamic dressing. This tiny cafe is very good value, the portions are generous, the homemade cakes are good and the coffee is the best in Derry.

Picking up a good lunch to go can be a problem until I discovered the ideal solution. The Coffee Tree on Derry’s Strand Road is only a few minutes from the main business area. However, you would walk mikes before savouring a better sandwich

Outstanding coffee, one of the best I have tasted. Sandwich again outstanding- and massive! - and bill not hard to pay. Staff excellent, polite, friendly. Call in you won't be disappointed.

Probamos bollos y pan de plátano, una sopa absolutamente deliciosa y los sándwiches más enormes y sabrosos que he visto en mi vida. Pedí un blanco plano extra caliente que no era tan caliente como me gustaría. Cuando pedí un poco de agua caliente, la encantadora señora a cargo, ¡amablemente me preparó otro café! !Un lugar realmente lindo y peculiar con buena comida y un personal encantador. ¡Volveremos la próxima vez que estemos en Derry!

Entró para un almuerzo rápido. Los sándwiches son muy buenos y muy grandes. Podríamos haber compartido fácilmente uno entre nosotros. El servicio fue rápido y amigable. Es un lugar pequeño y se llena a la hora del almuerzo, así que fue una suerte que estuviéramos justo después de las 12 porque muy rápidamente todas las mesas estaban ocupadas.

De loin le meilleur petit déjeuner que nous avons pris en Irlande. Délicieux énormes scones servis avec crème, beurre, confiture, thé avec du lait, le tout servi dans de la vraie vaisselle, dans un cadre décontracté. On a même assisté à l'anniversaire d'un habitué, c'est la patronne qui lui a offert une part de gâteau avec bougie et chanson . Nous en gardons un bon souvenir pour un prix très raisonnable et même moins cher qu'ailleurs !

I would often meet family and friends in the coffee tree for lunch. The sandwiches are just divine! My favourite has to be the cheese and caramelised onion one. Everything is fresh and tasty. The building itself is small and there aren’t a lot of seats but it’s cosy and friendly. The staff are all very friendly especially the owners.

Two of us stopped in for a bite of lunch. The “All the Greens” soup was absolutely delicious, as was the tuna sandwich.

The chicken and avocado salad was huge and so delicious. This place is very affordable, only cost £4.50. The restaurant is in a great location and is very cute. Would definitely recommend

Every sandwich I have ever got from here has been sensational. They are huge! They also do wonderful traybakes and the white choc/raspberry scone is so tasty. I am not a coffee drinker so can not comment on this however the food alone is definitely worth a visit. 5*'s!!!

I love everything about The Coffee Tree - the food is lovely, always freshly made and such large & hearty portions for such a good price. The coffee is equally beautiful and the staff always warm / kind went greeting you! The interior is really cozy as well. My favourite place to meet with a friend.

My husband and I were visiting Derry for the marathon and wanted a late afternoon snack. Having read the reviews decided to try the Coffee tree. The soup was fabulous and coffee and banana bread was all fabulous. Very reasonable with happy smiling staff. Well done

What a lovely wee place for coffee and a sandwich. I cannot praise this family run establishment high enough .An absolute masterpiece of a sandwich and a slice of home-baked Hummingbird cake (an amazing vegetarian recipe) Food is fresh and well presented by friendly smiling people. There is such a nice aromosphere well worth a visit. Can't wait to go back and try one of their amazing scones

I miss this little spot... I would come here all the time with my sister and the Sambos and Salads are something else, and of course, the always very lovely staff. Great value for money, delicious food and various tray bakes to be tried, tested and enjoyed!

Had yet another excellent lunch in this lovely cafe. We had a chicken avocado salad and a chicken salad sandwich The food is fabulous and such good value.

I love this cafe, the scones are unreal!!! The place is always great value for money and always warm and friendly. Sometimes it's difficult to get a seat which is understandable 😂

Great central spot, nice sized small and intimate venue (can fill up as it's so popular, but they still do a roaring trade with everything available for take away), and again the best coffee in Derry. Owners are super friendly and the salads, sandwiches and baked goods are all home made and fresh. And let me say, no matter what you order you will be pleasantly surprised when you get the bill. VERY reasonably priced considering the time, effort and care that goes into everything they sell. If you haven't been, you are missing out.

Absolutely love it in here. Everything from the friendliest owners who always offer a warm welcome and lovely conversation to their mindblowing chicken and avocado salads...so simple,tasty and satisfying and healthy. Their doorstep sandwiches are absolutely beautiful and really filling.

A big bowl of home-made soup with chunky bread for £3 . You can’t beat it. Been four times and every soup was a winner. Last visit was with the wife ; she had spicy tomato and I had smoky lentil, both excellent. The doorstop sandwiches and salads look great, but the soup is so filling, I never get past it. A gem

A fantastic family run cafe in Derry City centre. Rustic, homemade and fresh - as good as it gets. A menu that changes every day, their tray bakes, gourmet 'doorstep' sandwiches and soups are delicious..

We had a lovely lunch in the coffee tree today. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The chicken avocado salad,door stop sandwiches and hot coffee were so delicious. We just love the coffee tree .

You could easily walk past the unassuming shopfront of The Coffee Tree and not notice it...but you would be really missing out!

Doesn’t look like much from the outside but once in you will be pleasantly surprised; the cake is amazing, the coffee even better and the kind service tops the lot. A must go.

Over a month later and my husband is still talking about this breakfast! He'd be there every morning if we lived in Derry. We were there before they opened and helped them slide up the door. Great service and lovely pastries and food. Welcoming and friendly staff!

Home baked cakes best you will ever eat! Amazing door stop sandwiches. 1 will fill 2 people . Delicious soup. All at very reasonable prices. Great service. Opposite the Strand cinema and Tesco's in Centre. Treat yourself

Ate for the first time in the Coffee tree today and it wont be the last! The food and service was excellent. The best sandwich, coffee and scone I have had in a long time :)

What a fantastic place to eat, located in the centre of Derry we had the most amazing salad all fresh ingredients and home made pesto, home baked cakes and tea and coffee the staff are genuinely friendly and very efficient,lovely comfortable and relaxing atmosphere and all at very reasonable prices, looking forward to our next visit.

Absolutely delicious food, and extremely generous portions! Very friendly atmosphere and nice & cosy premises. Cakes and bakes are freshly made each morning by the owner, Movania. Shout out to Meadhbh (Maeve), she's wonderful!

Visit The Coffee tree every week with various members of my extended family and it is my favourite cafe to go to for coffee and scones. The raspberry and white chocolate scones are absolutely delicious and are always fresh just out of the oven They are great for sharing as they are so large. The home made soup is also delicious as are the doorstop sandwiches. Best place in Derry by far!

Called for tea and cake on a wet Saturday afternoon. What a fabulous place - cake to die for! The owner was so lovely - she heard my English accent and made a point of coming over to chat! Cannot recommend enough!

This tiny cafe is a gem. The only criticism is the size - you are lucky if you can get a table, so try and get there early if you can. The soup is proper homemade soup and it is served with generous portions of good bread. Be warned- the portions are very generous so a bowl of soup and bread is really filling. The choice is limited but there seems to be different soups and offerings each time that i have been there.

Firstly the staff are genuinely friendly and pleased to see you. The food and drinks are superb, the sandwiches are filled to the brim, the cakes, tarts and scones are proper homemade and proper tasty and to top it all they are very reasonably priced.

Honestly, in my opinion one of the best cafe's in town. Food is lovely and fresh, very healthy and cheap too.

Visited the coffee tree for the first time last week. I had the veggie sandwich and tomato soup, and can't recommend them enough. It was so good I went back a couple of days later for coffee and a brownie. The staff are friendly and the owner really makes you feel welcome, she seems to know everyone who walks through the door. A great find and if you're ever in Derry you'd be a fool not to pop in for lunch

Recently visited The Coffee Tree with a couple of friends. The fresh made sandwiches are incredible. Quite a small seating area but outstanding food and helpful, friendly staff make this it one of the best cafe's around. Would happily recommend to anyone

This is one of the best coffee places in the town. Its tiny and all the eateries are hand made but boy do you know! The scones are large enough to share. and the coffee is great. Instead of following the crowd with the same old coffee shops. Support this local business and you wont be disappointed

I had a brownie , it was pretty amazing. Came back two days later and had a Blondie and it was so good I nearly cried. Staff very polite as well.

This cafe is really small, only seats about 18 max.We enjoyed our coffee and tea with really good chocolate caramel cake . The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately I will probably not return because of the location as it's in a part of town I'm never in and it's hard to get a seat at busy times.I hope they do well and maybe expand to bigger premises.

This place was recommended to us for lunch and it way exceeded our expectations. We'd soup with bread and it was a meal in itself! Other diners had ordered salads and they looked absolutely gorgeous. We will definitely be back to sample these! The staff were very friendly and it was very reasonably priced.

A favourite for lunch. Lived in Derry for a year before finding this gem- big comfy couches, excellent food and lovely arty atmosphere. It's small and cosy so nice spot to come solo or in pair.

This little cafe is easily missed when walking down the Strand. But that would be a big mistake! They take their coffee & food very seriously. Make sure that you arrive with an appetite because they don't do things by halves. Their raspberry & white chocolate scones are huge and very, very good.

A great wee place right in the heart of the city, providing top class doorstep sandwiches which will feed you for the day as well as mouthwatering scones served with the works, jam, cream, butter the lot. Amazing value for money & the service was warm & friendly without being intrusive, oh and the coffee is amazing as well. Highly recommend you give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Small, busy lunch spot close to the city centre. Small menu but the sandwiches are amazing. One can do you for the entire day. And the sweet treats will perk you up for an afternoon's work.

I love this place! It's cosy and the staff are so friendly which creates a great atmosphere. I have been here a few times about 10/10:30 and all of the scones are just out of the oven and still warm! The raspberry and White choc scones are to die for. Also, the doorstop sandwiches are huge! Banana bread is perfection. The coffee is great, they even have suki tea and matcha lattes. This is a great place to go for breakfast or lunch, the portions are huge!

We found this place while exploring Derry. A short walk from the city walls, we just happened onto it while looking for a movie theatre. We had about an hour before our movie started, so we sat down in the Coffee Tree to wait. We ordered a coffee and a tea, and my wife got a huge peanut butter cookie, which she loved. I soon regretted eating earlier because the offer what they call door stop sandwiches. It seemed like every person in the place was ordering them. They looked fresh and delicious. If your near the Queyside shopping center, save your lunch appetite for the coffee tree.

Wonderful experience here. This was our first coffee shop in Derry and it set the bar high. Excellent service chatting with my son. Latte was great and the brownie was amazing. They even warmed it up and gave him a huge dollop of cream.

The warm coffees, the variety of teas, the healthy salads, the MAHOOSIVE sandwiches, the tasty scones, the delicious cakes and comfortable sofas, with the most wonderful and friendliest staff and the best of prices! Just amazing! Very clean! 5 stars all around!!!

I had the Chicken and Avocado salad in here with my son on Tuesday. What superb value for money! I don't know how they make a profit. There was so much variety of ingredients and pesto and houmous, totally stunning! As always we had the delicious coffee to finish with, best flat white ever!

Oh my goodness, going in here is my treat to myself. Food is amazing, the staff are amazing, they look after you so well. Nothing is too much trouble. If you haven't been, why not? Go... just do it, you'll thank me.

Just called in & had the tastiest door stopping sandwich I have ever had. Also coffee was top notch. Couple who run cafe seem to know what people want in a cafe. Very cool & relaxing. Highly recommended

Customer service is very good, 2 days in a row we went for lunch it was that good the first day we went back for the 2nd day. Great value for money and the sandwiches are very fulling and tasty. The 2nd day i had the soup which was also very good. Great all round !!!

Finbar & his lovely wife are so very friendly attentive and make you feel very much at home. The food is home made and delicious as is the tea & coffee.

Reminds me to some extent of some of the coffee house's back in the day in Greenwich Village, New York City. Sandwiches are delicious and large. The locals call them door stoppers. The barrister obvuioulsy knows what he's doing. Prices are very competitive. Very popular with the University crowd. I plan to revisit on my upcoming trip to Derry.

It is easy to walk past Coffee Tree and miss a great treat. There is something about the PVC window and door frames that is not attractive.

What a lovely place to sit and chat and chill out. Great tea and cake available, best humming bird cake and carrot cake. Mobhanna (owner) bakes all her own stuff every day , fresh scones, fresh cakes all made with fresh ingredients from the local area. Finbar and Mobhanna are a husband and wife team who own the coffee shop and they give a very fuzzy warm welcome. Definitely a place to visit. Great sandwiches as well, you better be hungry!! Great value for money as well

Small cafe on Strand Road serving beautiful coffee. Try their doorstop sandwiches. Movanna bakes great cheese n' onion scones , delicious cakes and biscuits. Try their kaleannoyaise!!!!
