The Cods Scallops in Nottingham

Really disappointing takeout. Ordered the fish taco and it was so small, it was a wrap with a bit of fish and salad I could have done myself for £2! Similarly the Tempura prawns got 3 small ones for £8.50. Definitely won’t be ordering again from there. Taste was ok but nothing exceptional for the price.

Fantastic fish and chips wonderful service from bright. Bubbly staff, absolutely delicious and got the lunch deal, so good really enjoyed

This place has really gone down hill !!! The fish & chips was not up to “Cod’s Scallops” standard. Ordered a takeaway, got home to rock hard chips & a fish which was not even eatable. There was so much salt on my meal that I binned it. I’m sure they put the salt on like it’s vinegar ! When I walked in to collect it I had to get some one’s attention to serve me. (Staff on there Moblie phone) so not busy at all as I was the only customer at the till. I don’t recommend this place to anyone. Unfortunately I will not be returning!!!

We used to be here many years ago ! It was fair before , but now ABSOLUTELY disgusting!!! We went to eat seafood, it was only chips and frozen small pieces of something that had been fried in an old oil . Can’t explain how horrible was !👎🏻

Lovely food and service Popped in to here for a bite to eat today. Was very clean and cosy. Served by a lovely young chap who was friendly and very polite. Table service was prompt. Good was piping hot and fresh. Had fish and chips with a pot of delicious curry sauce. A little bit pricy at £29 for 2 servings and a couple of drinks but do you know what, when food and service is good I really don’t mind paying a bit more. The chap that served us (he had glasses on) is a little gem and what ever you are paying him hourly wise he needs a pay rise. He was polite to every single customer who came in. Consistent. Well done guys and thanks for a cracking fish and chip dinner 😄

We have ordered Fish and Chips at The Cod's Scallops on a number of occasions. Yesterday 15.12.23 at circa 13.30), when we arrived it wasn't very busy, the young woman behind the counter completely ignored us, she continued to fiddle with the till roll before asking for our order (in a very brusque manner), as we were ordering she walked away! Her arrogance and bad attitude were unfathomable. The order was eventually placed and we waited an age. We noted that someone has a loyalty card stamped. Previous to this we were not even made aware that there was a loyalty card and as our orders are always over £15, it would have been nice to know about the loyalty card. When the order arrived, we took it home, most of it was cold, we did ask for salt and vinegar on both meals and neither had vinegar and there was salt on the lid of the curry sauce only; the lid of the sauce pot was the last thing that needed seasoning! The majority of the chips were burnt, the curry sauce thick and the fish was tasteless. When we next decide to treat ourselves to Fish and Chips we will NOT be going to the Cod's Scallops.

Chips delivered by Deliveroo this afternoon, was stale and hard. Could not eat them. Waste of time/money!

Popped in here for a quick meal with our 1 year old and got a table easy enough at 530 on a Saturday. The booths are really cosy and there was lots of room for our daughter to play around. We ordered her the kid’s fish and chips and it was huge! Could easily have fed an adult so for £8 which included a drink, ice cream and activity kit it was fab value. I am a vegetarian so be aware nothing fried in batter is veggie as they use beef dripping. I did have the cheese and onion pie and it was absolutely delicious with mushy peas and potato salad which I personally wasn’t a fan of. But hubby loved his fish taco and chips. Seems to be popular for older clientele which I thought was lovely. We aren’t local anymore but it was nice to pop in again.

We had mini fish ,chips & mushy peas , but took them away . The food was excellent as was the service . Would definitely recommend this establishment. 👌

Okay so unfortunately this was incredibly disappointing meal. Having eaten here numerous times in my previous time in Nottingham pre covid I was excited to get back and stuck in again. However when the food arrived I was presented with the most pitiful piece of cod I have ever seen. Fine it was cooked pretty well but this did not ofset the value lost in its size and the flavour was good but not beyond reckoning as it would have needed to be to justify itself at that size and price. It was thinner than paper and as short as my trump hands. Frankly I would have just been okay with it had it been a mini cod. But for a 14 quid piece of fish it was embarrassing. I will not be ordering again, despite the overall quality being satisfactory for that price I expect. Much MUCH better. Please see photos for reference.

There aren't many tables, so we deliberately turned up early to avoid disappointment. I'm glad we did, there were people queuing by 12:30. £10 each for the lunch special - Mini Cod, chips, peas, tartare sauce, and a coffee. Couldn't fault the food or the service.

In the area working and came across this place. I ordered chips, sausage x 2 small as no jumbo, peas and a can of coke ...... £10.70 Well by far the worst chips I have ever had. Small bitty tooth breakers with no taste. Sausages dry and so were the mushy peas. Didn't even finish. The bin gobbled them up. The only positive was the overpriced cold can of coke. The fryer may have had a bad day. Massively overpriced and poor quality.

Food was really nice. Ate every morsel. Two adults and two children. Two large cod and chips, childs cod and chips, childs sausage and chips with mushy peas times 4. All the food was tasty. Most importantly the kids ate it all. It was quiet in restaurant. Service was Ok just a tad slow. Grandchildren wanted (but did not need) the sundae dessert of ice cream etc. That was £6.50 each. The cost was a bit of a shock. The meals plus 3 orange drinks and a glass of water. Total price for the four of us was £84.50 Crikey. Granddaughter said " see grandma I told you we should have gone to McDonalds" !!

Just average. It was busy so a long wait which is understandable but I've had better fish and chips.

I’ve been using the Cods Scallops for years. Initially the Bramcote outlet, more recently and today the Mansfield Road outlet. Having found a table I placed my order with an operative who wasn’t the most knowledgeable or confident. I watched as the large takeaway queue disappeared and indoor customers who had arrived after me had their orders taken and their food served. Eventually I gave up and asked to speak with a manager only to be told there wasn’t one on duty. I cancelled my order and attempted to pay for my cup of tea. A surly young woman simply said “ don’t worry about it” but made no attempt to apologise. I won’t be back - appalling service and even worse customer care!!

Very expensive for what you get £30 for 2 x fish and chips. £18 on the North East Coast bigger portion and better quality.

I have eaten at many fish and chips shops/ restaurants..this is a great place and even better food. I can highly recommend to anyone.

Winner of Best fish and chips in UK Second time have won this. Fish and chip shop really nice chips and a right collection of fish you can pick and he will cook for you as you wait. It's a bit costly but worth it. Chips done in beef dripping and God you can tell it's great really nice. Always hot as cook as you wait so you never get cold old chips standing. Very good place to eat. Can eat in a few tables. Can wait up to 30 mins some times ie Friday for a start. Parking is ok most of the time as it's off road shopping.

Went there last week on a normal weekday around 3pm, think most staff was on break as the staff didnt know what to do when I ordered Fried Oysters. Fish was very nice but the batter was over salted to the point it was burning your tongue. Probably their OFF day. Will visit and try again

the lady behind the counter at the wollaton branch shouted eat in or take away as soon as we walked in. she wouldnt stamp our loyalty card. told me to move my pushchair because its a fire hazard and shoved past me to get to customers. she needs some serious customer service training. very rude, discurteous and down right disgusting really.

Went today and really enjoyed it I had cod chips and mushy peas my husband haddock chips and mushy peas the food was very good but The price of 2 small mushy peas came to £5.20 on there own I could if bought 4 large bags for that I know they have to run a business but that is expensive 2 small bottles of soft drinks too £3.50 each pub prices arnt that much I think they need to check there prices or offer a alternative meal for 2 people today fish chips peas and a soft drink twice £40 I will return but will miss out the peas and the soft drinks at those prices

I've yet to eat inside but the quality and freshness of the fish and chips is unmatched and I do highly recommend. Staff are always polite and fast

Tried this restaurant for the first time for lunch today. I ordered plaice baked in garlic and lemon with salad and a side order of baby potato salad. The meal came very speedily. The plate was swimming in water. The fish was undercooked for my liking and didn’t appear to have been baked. More importantly it was completely tasteless with no hint of garlic (or fish). The only identifiable flavour was the lemon I squirted over it at the table. The salad was fresh if a little dull ( mostly leaves and cherry tomatoes). The potato salad was served straight from the fridge and was so cold as to be inedible. I sent it back and had chips instead which were ok. This is certainly not the fish restaurant it holds itself out to be and if I go again I shall stick to bog standard fish n chips which looked good.

We had a take away . The food was bad/off..avoid this place. It was stone cold and black rotten chips. I feel physically sick after eating a few chips and a piece of scampi before realising.

DISAPPOINTED! I was expecting a very nice food,as seen the Google reviews, but I am so disappointed with the quality of the food. The portion was ok, nicely presented on a plate, but my first bite to the chips was made me thinking to spit out as the chips was uncooked in the middle and tasted like raw rather than fluffy. Outside was crunchy but only the outside inside was disgusting taste. The fish tasted bland, absolutely nothing to expect for your money. I gave only 1 star because of the waitress so polite and friendly, excellent customer service. Did not wanted to complain or make a scene, just I was expecting nice taste and quality food. The only way I can complain DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! SORRY TO SAY! Paid 40£ for 2, a food what I couldn’t even eat, left all of the chips in the plate. Positive to say the Coca Cola tasted very nice from the cold bottle.

Used to be our local chippy and it was the very best fish and chips... We go elsewhere now. Expensive and not worth the price now which is sad.

Ordered online which was clear and easy, went to collect at the time told and when arrived food was ready to go 👍🏻, also worth mentioning the staff are very friendly and accommodating, we 2 x Mini fish, chips, and mushy peas; and a fish, chips, and fry its (see pic). All food was amazing and very tasty we have used the wollaton branch numerous times before and they never disappoint, I would definitely recommend The Cod’s Scallops

The Cod’s Scallops tries to live up to a reputation of being an award winning chip shop, however, it is genuinely overpriced for the quality of the food and whilst it attempts to be upmarket it fails at basic things like accepting Amex.

We arrived, shortly after 8:45pm to be told we couldn’t eat in & that it was takeaway only. Out of curiosity I asked what time last orders were, and was told 9pm. Having therefore stated we were in time, the chef (with a grimace) just pointed out to me the nearest table of four currently occupied. I was a little confused. The restaurant had two tables occupied, a four and a two. Not exactly ‘heaving’ and overrun! He clearly just wanted to finish up and head home. I get it, I’ve worked in hospitality, but this is poor…..we ended up getting one portion to share as we knew it would be cold by the time we got home and ended up cooking our own pizza instead! The food was very good, although just warm by the time we got home, but my first impression has been very much tainted. I will try again, when I get the chance, in the hope of redemption - but this is poor customer service and bad business.

What a fall from Grace, for years was hands down the best chippy about. I visited here the other day. Ordered king prawns that weren’t even prepped at all( don’t serve king prawns if your staff don’t no how to de-spine and remove the bad bits) and completely inedible. Chips that taste like cardboard. Then 2 fish cakes that they were that burnt they tasted like burnt toast. Also looked like they were from Iceland. This place has gone so downhill it’s unbelievable, probably why it was completely empty at a time when it used to be overflowing.

Nice little restaurant with a sit down area. Really like how they aranged the tables so all those sitting have some privacy from takeaway staredowns😂. Ordered a range of food, a but sad they didnt have dressed crab but all other food was quite nice. Price is decent too. Found the fish a little too oily and bland, however the crispy batter carried the dish all the way. Scallops are decent and prawns were just perfect. White bait are good but I feel they should have a different coating on them, something with rice flour maybe.

I took my order back because was only staying in hotel across road, looked at me as if I had two heads? Other guest who was staying in hotel had just been before me and had to be supplied with salt & vinegar by hotel owner. CRIMINAL

Overrated and overpriced. The chips don't even come with salt and vinegar on.... Gravy is tiny, no idea how a chip shop can have no flavour at all. This food was awful. I came literally today on a school trip and I had a sausage and chips and a coke and it was so expensive?!??!! The chips were not great and the sausage was mediocre. The customer service was slow and poor. I am very disappointed had to go to Sainsbury’s and buy a bag of quavers to fix my appetite :( do not go here

Important! This venue mislabels food as vegan and vegetarian in its menu which is, in fact, cooked in beef dripping. We only realised after ordering, after noticing something about “using beef dripping indefinitely” scrolling through on a digital screen, and so we double checked when our food arrived. We were told that they knew they needed to change the menus, but have not done this despite this change being made some time ago. We overheard an indignant manager insisting we should still pay for the coca cola, which we left unfinished after having nothing to eat with it. The person who took payment also told us there was a sign on the outside somewhere, but this was not obvious and we don’t generally use restaurant doors to look for food ingredients, we use the menu. This is completely unacceptable, and it would take staff ten minutes to put a line through the vegetarian and vegan symbols on the menus. Recommend AVOID if you are vegan, vegetarian, or if your religious beliefs mean you do not consume beef.

The baked monkfish is a must! The Peroni was icy cold. No need for dessert really.

Great now it’s cooked in beef dripping again. You don’t eat fried food to be healthy, so when you have it as a treat, it should be cooked properly, not in weird tasting oils.

Visited many times and simply the best fish and chips that I have ever had. Took my hungry grandchildren there and even the fifteen year old was satisfied.
