Gorgeous food, lovely staff, cloth napkins and a classy atmosphere. Bit pricey, but worth it.

Came for the pub quiz. It's a big pub with a long bar that goes around the corner, making it a bit fragmented.. If they focussed on the basics it could be a really good pub. Nice building, interesting features. But not sure if the revolving door really belonged in a classroom... Maybe I haven't be in enough classrooms. Staff are trying their best. Prices are very high though . Place is always spotlessly clean . And it's obviously popular as every time I've been, the pub has been full up.... Or maybe that's as a result of the epic Quizmaster. Could do better.

Came here while on holiday as wanting good fish and chips. Battered haddock was really tasty, nice flakey fish, lovely crispy batter. Children's potions generous, and meal for them came with a good ice cream sundae. Can recommend.

Waited an hour for toasties, bad bread. Waitress did not seem apologetic. Expensive for what it was.

Great spot for dinner. We had a roast beef and steak and ale pie, both were delicious. Service was good. Let down by the chili mango Margherita cocktail, however as it wasn’t up to scratch with the rest of the meal.

Lovely place to visit while we were in Nairn

Food was lovely and the service was good although it does take a bit long for order to come to the table even when the restaurant is quiet at least 30min wait or sometimes longer so be prepared to be there a while

Hi, I used to come to the classroom quite often a few years ago then I move away and came back for Christmas. I went for lunch today and food there was absolutely horrible!!

We had a bit of a wait to get food, but it looked a little understaffed for the second of January so very understandable, the food however was incredible and well worth the wait, great service by the staff,

We booked into your restaurant for our Hogmanay meal with friends our food was lovely but service was extremely poor , the waitresses / waiters were all buzzing around but getting nowhere tables were getting wrong orders, getting desserts before main course, having to wait for drinks orders , we got a round of drink and a vodka and Diet Coke served in what I can only describe as a jam jar wasn’t the best to be drinking out of in a restaurant..after having our meal we were sitting enjoying our drink with the intention of staying for the evening to see in the New Year and listening to the music, but at 9pm we were asked to leave our table as someone else was waiting to sit on it. After spending £250 this is really not the service or the experience we expected for the Hogmanay party that you had advertised. It was clear in the classroom that there was a negative atmosphere due to tables receiving wrong or no orders. It is extremely doubtful we will return here. .

Very disappointed in lack of menu items- left without eating

Battle of the Mushy Peas. We arrived and got a seat along with a few different menus. The waitress noticed the specials menu was wrong and changed it. My husband picked items from his menu to discover that this menu was wrong too. Ok so I ordered fish and chips without the mushy peas. The waitress offered normal peas if not available happy to go without. She came back and offered a salad instead. I was happy with that, then she returned and told me they didn't have enough salad and would I take a mix of salad and broccoli. 'That's fine' I said. Then she returned again insisting that her chef said I had to try the mush peas. I explained that I don't like mushy peas. I was now getting irritated. She came back again and said if I want peas the chef will get me peas. This was now ridiculous and unwarranted. Food eventually arrived. It was a nice piece of cod, but had not been seasoned. Chips came in one of those small metal fryers on your plate, the tarter sauce in a dish and peas in another dish all on the one plate. Apart from it looking ridiculous it was very outdated We had our food and just wanted to pay and leave. I had my coat on and the waitress approached me asking me if I wanted desert. I said I have my coat on!!!! Glad to get out of the place.

Great atmosphere the staff are brilliant and I love the food

party of four for xmas lunch. We all ordered the turkey with trimmings.... turkey was as dry as a arabs sandal...veg was rock solid...gravy run out on plate after few roast tatties. i got one stuffing ball which was more like a snooker ball. The starter of prawn cocktail ok but water at bottom of large whisky glass they served it in. They are taking expensive prices for low standard food to be honest

We've enjoyed a couple of very enjoyable visits here, with a good choice of tasty food on the menu. Being dog friendly is also a welcome attraction.

Just want to give a massive thank you to Laura and the two new members of staff for looking after us. Was a busy lunch time and we weren't the easiest of customers but Laura made our visit amazing from start to finish. A very warm and happy welcome from a new member of staff (gentleman with the glasses) was much appreciated and he did a fantastic job of looking after us also. Laura is fantastic at what she does, and does everything with a glowing smile. An absolute asset to your team.

Myself, my wife and our faithful 2yr old Border Collie ate here on the evening of Friday 17th November 2023 … great food and a good atmosphere and the staff were superb. Top marks to Laura, Josh and Georgia - who looked after us all …

Staff were pleasant. Nice setting and clean. Food however was average, and in my limited opinion, overpriced. £17 is a fair price for a fair size serving, especially if mouth watering. But £17 for what is essentially a bland child’s portion of fish and chips, in a coastal area, is over priced.

The food was terrible Frozen cold fries Soup of the day was terrible could not eat it. Half potion was £4.00 Sticky toffee pudding frozen with a small vanilla ice cream was £8.00 Hotel prices cheaper Good restaurant cheaper . Really disappointing as it used to be a nice place to go. . Don’t go in , you will be robbed with rubbish food would not recommend any of the food

Really disappointing visit this week with a couple of friends. We used to live locally and would visit often. Now moved away so thought we’d come back and expected the same amazing food. Service was slow and our plates were not cleared between services of mains and desserts. There were only 3-4 other tables in with 2 bar/waiting staff so not over run. They were polite but as I’ve said slow. The carbonara was average but the cheesecake was almost frozen in the middle still and was tasteless. The menu was the first sign of possible change of owner. Now reading other reviews it’s clear that’s not done their reputation, quality and service any favours. The offer at the top was 2 courses for £15 or £19 depending on the time you went which was fine. When we came to pay they explained that it was only for starter and main not main dessert as was shocked how much the bill was. No explanation. No apology. Just clearly all four of us over sight. The food was adequate but not for the price of the food. (Especially with no offer) Real shame as we really talked up the place to friends and family and were disappointed with what we experienced compared to previous visits. Thankfully the company we had made up for the issues. We sadly won’t be returning. Shame as there are very few places in nairn of a good standard left for evening meals.

Good food at typical prices for the area. As with most places in the area wine is relatively expensive. Always busy whilst there, staff did a good job and food arrived in good time. Bao bun starter was great, very tasty. Main was the seafood platter. A bit heavy with the batter and portion size, chowder was the highlight. Would recommend and will go again.

Wow. Wish we had found this place before! The food was exceptional!!!! The staff were super friendly; especially Laura who went above and beyond!! Cannot wait to return! Ten out of ten! Just lush!

Service was good, very friendly. Roast was very good - the veg were seasoned perfectly and a size of a portion was good. I'd only roast the potatoes to get a crispier skin. A side of horseradish sauce would make it perfect. Desert (apple tart) was a bit lazy but all ice cream we tried were fantastic!

I thoroughly enjoyed the service, food and atmosphere. It misses out on 5 stars as it is understaffed and we had to wait to be seated even when the establishment only had 3 tables in use. So when it gets busy I can see they would struggle. We loved the beers and selection of food on offer, the service was lovely. The food was worth the wait and was cooked fresh. We noted online that some people had said their's had been reheated/or/microwaved. Ours was not, it was way above average and tasty. Portion size was average but not under. We did have to chase to pay as the person at the bar was on the phone a lot. It made ordering extra drinks and a pudding difficult hence the four star rating so we left earlier than we would have liked as we didn't want to wait. Overall this establishment and the Sun Dancer in Nairn are better than anything in Inverness has to offer by far and for the matter any of the surrounding areas too ! So they have my vote. Well done, we will be back!!!!

We came here based on the good reviews and were unfortunately disappointed. Neither the food nor the ambience convinced us and was mediocre at best. We found the waiter to be arrogant. What really annoyed us was that we wanted onion rings instead of French fries (chips) and the waitress pointed out to us that this costs an extra charge. What we weren't told was that we had to pay in full for the onion rings as a side dish and therefore it wasn't just an extra charge. We therefore paid 8 pounds for 2 x 5 onion rings instead of an extra charge and the omission of the French fries was not taken into account. When billing, we were presented with the bill from the next table, which was about 50% higher than ours. There wasn't even a "sorry" for this, just a loud laugh. For us it's a rip off and of course we won't be coming back.

Went in for coffee and was completely ignored by someone who came out of kitchen after I called out as no-one in restaurant for at least 5 mnutes

The food stood out as excellent here. The Salt Trout and its accompaniments was brilliant - the plate was swept clear. The mackerel pate was on point (if a touch on the small size for a portion) and the sirloin was cooked excellently. Wines were interesting and fairly priced and cocktails were novel and experimental. Would recommend and will return.

The chicken strips we had were very poor. The texture and taste made us believe that they were straight out of a packet. The skin on chips had no skin on and appeared to be regular chips, probably out of a packet as well. For £19 expect much better. The chilli sauce felt as though it was out of a bottle!! We eat out regularly.

4 of us had dinner here. I had the Classroom burger which was good. One had the Malaysian curry which was good. One had the "special" - mushroom risotto which at £24 is the most expensive risotto we've ever had. It didn't look appetising on the plate and failed to impress. Another had the sweet chilli chicken and said it was OK. So, it depends what you choose from the menu. Would we eat here again? It wouldn't be our 1st choice.

No one else in but to wait 20 minutes for a bacon sandwich which wasn't that great wasn't a good experience! No wonder the place was empty at 10.30.

Four couples went for dinner at 6:45pm on a Sunday. The restaurant was busy and a bit noisy. Most had entree only, however, there was some confusion as to what meat was available for the Sunday dinner, pork offered first, then swapped to beef, and then finally presented as pork! The Sunday dinners were excellent, however, the fish and chips were deemed less than excellent, the fish good, however the fish batter was not fully cooked, leaving a slightly mushy inside. Similar confusion reigned with respect to dessert, particularly regarding what ice cream flavours were available. Strangely enough, vanilla was deemed unavailable as part of the three scoop dessert however, vanilla showed up as accompaniment to the Sticky Toffee Pudding! Finally, later in the evening as the restaurant started to empty, there was increased crashing and banging from the bar and kitchen.

I visited here with my wife for lunch today. I previously visited several months ago with a colleague also for lunch. As an ovo/lacto vegetarian i opted for the "Beetroot Burger" served with vegan cheese and jackfruit on a brioch bun with caramelised onion dressing and my wife opted for the Applewood smoked cheese sandwich withbside salad. I had visited previously and thoroughly enjoyed the Beetoot burger which was the reason for ordering it today. Unfortunately, this was not available today and a "spicy bean burger" was offered in replacement. I opted for that. After a reasonable wait time our lunches were delivered to our table. My spicy bean burger was served in a brioche style bun with caramelised onion dressing and NO vegan cheese and NO jackfruit !! I questioned this with our server and she agreed that the cheese and jackfruit would be served shortly as a 'side' dish. On the plate, the burger was accompanied by a small wire cage 'basket' of fries (not skin-on) as specified on the menu, and a side of 'Asian' slaw. When the cheese and jackfruit eventually arrived, i had already eaten half of my bean burger (otherwise would get cold waiting!). Annoyingly, the cheese was melted into the jackfruit and was presented in a small pot in a congealed mixture. Seemingly, these had been microwaved together ? Not good. My wife's sandwich, made with Ciabatta bread, smoked cheese, asian slaw and a caramelised onion dressing was very, lip burning, spicy hot ! Not really what was hoped for or expected ? Two drinks we ordered were a slarkling mineral water and a lime soda (soft drink). We did not have dessert or coffee afterwards. The meal was priced at £26.50 ! - That is £15.50 for the non-Beetroot burger and £11.00 for the Smoked cheese sandwich. The staff removed the drinks from our bill as i had to wait for the component parts of my non-Beetroot burger to be served at different times ! Totally overpriced and underwhelming !!! We shall NOT visit again !

We came here late to eat something not heavy. The dish was good but we had the bad surprise to see in the payment ticket, That the server took himself 4.37 pound as gratuity. Contactless payment was strait, I didn’t Check on the spot the details. That’s a bad experience, a good remembering to check your ticket. If the manager read this a refund is expected.

Three of us arrived on Monday 4th of Sept, just after 8pm. Despite having plenty free tables, for some reason they wouldn't let us in to dine.

What a wonderful find! This place has an exceptional menu, something for everyone. A creative cocktail menu, and a full wine offering as well as some signature non-alcoholic choices for those who don’t want to imbibe. I highly recommend the maple old fashioned. We enjoyed the steak (get the peppercorn sauce) and the Trawlermans Plate was amazing!! The cheesecake and lemon desserts did not disappoint! The waitstaff was very friendly and helpful. It was a lovely evening so we dined outside. An absolutely wonderful meal!!

The malasian curry was so week, that you could even make a better sauce at home with a few ingredients. It was watery and so bland and the rice and tiny chunks of sweet potato in it just absorbed underneath the big bed of rice. Basically a rice and veg dish no flavourd or sauce that resembled a curry what do ever. For £24 with prawns (or £22 with chicken) I have never felt so ripped off in my life. They were clearly short staffed as service took shes between drink and food orders but I don't think I've ever had a worse curry in my life and for he price they charging for it .. they seriously need to take a look at the recipe!!! Also, friends had the "pad Thai" they enjoyed it and said it was tasty but it was most certainly nothing like an actual paid Thai more like a stir fry with lots of sauce. If you are going to try adding new Asian twist to the menu, do it well or not at all. Wish I got the Balmoral chicken that looked much nicer than the Asian dishes they served up. Would not be back for food shocking prices for the quality and taste.

Service very slow 40 minute wait for starter. Couple came in same time as us received starters and mains and were finished before we had anything to eat. Food nothing special.

Sunday lunch , pre-booked via web. Parking was easy , on street right outside the door, Maybe not so easy on a weekday. 3 Courses were had , i`ll list my own choice - Crab to start , was lacking in ANY flavour - disappointing, Sunday Roast Beef for my main, was nice - not the fullest of plates but certainly enough and was tasty , Sticky toffee pud to round of the lunch - cant go wrong with that choice. We had 1 vegertarian , who was disappointed - flavourless food ! This was our first visit to the classroom , since the change of owner - and i`m not sure if we'll be returning. All in - Adequate and looked nice but ultimately ,nothing special.

The last time we were here we had a great meal - very satisfied. However this time was very different. I ordered the Venison and my wife had fish & chips. I was surprised I was not asked how I wanted it cooked but assumed it would be medium. When our meals arrived the Venison was tough and raw in the middle. Half of it was inedible as it was very fatty and full of gristle. I then realised that I had no steak knife and was struggling to cut the meat with a normal knife. Despite my best efforts I was unable to attract the server's attention and resigned myself to sawing away at the meat. The fish was ok, but half of it seemed to be just batter and was quite hard and tasteless. We were looking forward to a pudding but after waiting 25 minutes after finishing out meal and drinks - still no sign of anyone clearing our table and taking our pudding order. We therefore got up and left. When paying the bill we told them some of our issues, but was greeted with a pathetic 'sorry' and that was it. Sorry, but we'll not be returning again.

Just stopped for a beer, we were outside because it was a sunny day. Was very busy inside people eating all in all a nice place beer good.

In itself a nice diner atmosphere. Ordered two burgers and a Pad Thai (after asking whether it wasn't spicy). Waited over an hour for the food. Pad Thai was served spicy and the burgers were more than well done, rather burnt. After we complained about it, the Pad Thai was not charged and the burgers were half charged. This restaurant cannot be recommended.

4 of us went on sat evening and there was a few things not on menu-disappointing. The haggis balls were overcooked. The mains came , the burger wasn't over cooked it was black! The fish was overcooked I was frightened to eat the batter incase I ended up needing a trip to dentist. Sweets came and lemon tart was tasteless. We told staff of faults and she shrugged and said nothing. Would not recommend classroom for meal.

Came here because the reviews were great and it was the only eatery open at around 1.30pm on a Tuesday. The staff was very very friendly and it was a pleasant experience with them. However, the kitchen needs some improvement. Food took way too long, we were only served our starters after 45min. At the 1hr mark our mains were not out too. We ordered the seafood chowder, which probably was microwaved. Fish wasn't fresh + chewy and soup too salty. Due to the long wait my partner and I had to call for our mains to be taken away. Both the pad Thai and vegetarian rigatoni were too salty and honestly dreadful. We just threw them away. Pad Thai wasn't even actually pad Thai. Overall very disappointing especially with the great reviews. Maybe just avoid the foods that we ordered and hopefully the management work on kitchen timings and quality.

Based on the menu and previous reviews, we decided to try this restaurant over many others that were open for lunch. Unfortunately, we were left disappointed. It took over 1.5 hours to receive our food and throughout that time, we were the ones who finally had to ask after an hour and were told 5-10 minutes more. We were never told, sorry for your wait or let me get you a drink for waiting. We finally did ask after another table who sat for only 20 min and received their food, which included dishes we ordered. When the meal finally came, we were underwhelmed. It wasn't bad but it wasn't anything special, especially for the price. Then, we went to check out and I wasn't asked how the food or service was, no questions at all about our visit. That's also when I realized we didn't even receive one of the dishes we ordered but were so hungry at that point we forgot. So I had to tell them to take it off the bill. No apology there either. No offer for a discount for our ridiculously long wait. It really was disappointing.

A piano bar atmosphere with a singing couple who accompanied us throughout the meal. Dishes that work and are out of the ordinary. A bar with everything you need for those who want to have a cocktail. A waitress who speaks French and top notch

Cannot fault the food or the hospitality here. I loved our experience and would gladly return again. The food was exceptional. Laura and the service team were a delight. What I would say is that I feel one more extra member of staff would have made this a 5 star review. There was a delay from being seated to being served and even offered a drink. Our food arrived before our drinks. And there was a notable delay between courses. But saying this, it was a busy night, and i wouldn't hesitate on returning.

Rolled into Nairn Sunday afternoon, not many places serving food. I ended up here & had the Sunday roast, fantastic!!! Absolutely delish! Highly recommend the food here. Service was excellent also! Gave 3 stars for the atmosphere as it was a very rainy Sunday, probably more happening on a Friday or Saturday night. They also serve my fav cider ;)

Good was amazing, a bit pricey but the quality was amazing

This was once a great place for food. Now under new management it would seem, and quite a standard menu ( almost like a pub chain menu). Such a shame as had such a great reputation. We complained about one meal which was left uneaten...

Very disappointed with our experience tonight. We're regular customers but this time the service was awful. Had to ask for tap water 3 times, it came eventually after we'd been in 1 full hour. We were left sitting with our drinks for ages before we had to ask to have our food order taken. Trying to get a waiter/waitress's attention was difficult. One of our group couldn't eat her meal as the chicken was so dry & tough. Such a let down.
