The Chronicle Restaurant in East Devon

A highly recommend restaurant that has become a regular spot of ours for family meals. I've been lucky enough to work my way through the majority of the menu now and every one has been a hearty enjoyable plate. There's a very good range on the menu to accommodate most tastes and diets. Top dishes I'd recommend: Seafood bisque Pan seared scallops Slow roast pork belly Seared duck breast The trio of desserts (why have just one)

Dinner with Friends. Second visit as good as the first Excellent food for all 5 of us, great variety fun service yet professional and attentive , great atmosphere and surroundings will definitely come back for 3rd time next time we’re close to Exmouth

Well I must say 3 happy people. My pops has travelled the world along with my mother and he was so impressed with the cuisine blew his mind away! I was given a steak knife for obviously my steak , but I used the butter knife. Well we must say the food is not good not brilliant but excellent. Ps my pops wants the recipe for the moulles marinare.

Cannot fault the food, pricey ££ but worth it and Eloise is always lovely....our 2nd visit in just two months. However....we went out to celebrate our son's 6th birthday at 6pm & were told we had to be out for 8pm due to other bookings. We gave the restaurant his birthday cake - excited that he might get one this year (last years restaurant wanted to charge me £5 per head x8 people to serve it....err no thanks!) At 7.53pm we had only eaten two courses, so I asked for the cake back & said we have ran out of time so we will have to leave without having his cake. At no point did they offer dessert or say any different, so we left my parents to wait for their taxi. Unbeknown to them my mum is terminally ill & we are trying to have as many memorable/happy times as possible, and cake is the best bit of a birthday meal for kids. I was left with a bitter taste in my mouth shall we say.....oh and a £300+ bill 🙃

Perfect for a romantic dinner. The food was superb. The atmosphere was just right with excellent service. A good amount of time between courses was given. Well done Chronicle 👍

Great special evening meal with delicious food, fantastic service and great ambiance! The staff recommended fantastic options and continuously served with a smile.

Interesting 1920s-themed interior. Good food, e.g. chicken supreme can be a bit bland elsewhere but had very tasty sauce & sides here. Child's pasta was well received. A little pricey but didn't feel short-changed. Friendly service.

Met up with a friend and decided to go to the Chronicle as she had been there 3 weeks prior and was impressed with the menu and food. We were not disappointed and the pate was to die for. The waitress was excellent and the whole experience was perfect which is a rateity these days. Will be back.

Excellent food staff pleasant all in all very nice

A quirky, nice place finished in art deco styling. The food was pretty good, tasty and well presented. On this visit, unfortunately, there was a bit of a mix-up with what was served with our starters, and the tiny portion of halibut for 1 of the main courses at £29 was derisory.

Booked for Sunday lunch, restaurant was very busy but our table was lovely, excellent friendly service, prompt arrival of food and drinks, all delicious, Yorkshire pudding was exceptional! Would have given 5 stars but the lemon cheesecake was just dry biscuits at the bottom of a glass with very soft lemon soft cheese, very claggy, a real letdown & the loo brush in the ladies needs attention! But we would definitely recommend the roast

We found the menu varied, not cheap but the food was cooked to our liking. I had canon of Lamb £39 and my partner had duck (£22) the rest of the vegetables were cooked lovely. We had mussels to share as a starter. Very fresh and the sauce was exceptional. Eton mess could have been presented better and had more strawberries but I’m nit picking. We shall be returning!

I had high expectations of this restaurant,but unfortunately it didn't meet mine. We waited 50 minutes for our food,when it arrived the vegetables were very undercooked,meat/roast potatoes were nice,would not visit again. A shame as the staff were very nice,seemed to me too busy for them to cope.

My wife and I visited The Chronicle last week for dinner, and what a lovely experience it was. We were welcomed warmly by Eloise who was very kind and patient, giving us advise on the menu and consulting with the Chef on possible choices. The meals, when they came, were absolutely delicious as was the wine, and the desert, chocolate brownie with cream, was utterly divine. We had a perfect evening in The Chronicle, and recommend it highly.

Went there to have a brunch, we were the only people there.Waitress was friendly but nearly 30 minutes for the food to arrive by which time we had finished our coffees. Grubby carpeted stairs to toilets upstairs which like the stair carpet were grubby. Food was tasty but don't expect these problems in a place that describes itself as ' fine dining'

Have lived in Exmouth for 12 years, and have always thought the Chronicle was a staid old fashioned place. So wrong!! It was amazing. Lovely decor, great service, friendly staff and wonderful food at a fair price. Could not fault it. Look forward to our next visit.

A great experience all round. Friendly service and great food. All five of us really enjoyed our meals at The Chronicle. Can highly recommend.

4 adults and 2 children had the Sunday roast and all of us thought the food was excellent. 3 of the group also had desserts which were equally good, in particular the sticky toffee pudding and the chocolate brownie. I would definitely go back to The Chronicle!

Generous, varied, tasty roast and great service. Lovely art deco surroundings too. Just be careful as the Facebook price is not current, prices have increased.

Could easily be the best food in town.

Pleasant restaurant a stones throw from where we were staying. We had a meal here for our anniversary with our 6 month old. Staff were great, attentive and friendly. Good range of dishes with some very nice seafood on offer.

Keeping it brief. This restaurant is a sheer delight. From the decor, through to the food and service, quality, style and class are the words that come to mind. If you want to treat yourself to a special night out or superb Sunday lunch with comfort and sophistication_ The Chronicle is the place to go! Had a fantastic Christmas lunch here. Just been here for Sunday lunch great food but disappointing officious attitude by staff who immediately told us that we needed to leave within 1.5 hours which felt quite unwelcoming - we were also perched on a table which was hidden behind a pillar and asked to move, but we were told no as the table we’d asked to move to was booked (no one arrived to sit at this table whilst we were there!) no other seating options were offered - overall food was very nice but the experience could have been much better! Disappointing first visit not sure I’ll return

Had a gorgeous evening meal at The Chronicle. Absolutely delicious food. Brilliant, warm, friendly, courteous service from booking through to leaving. The restaurant itself has beautiful aesthetics and a great atmosphere. You could tell the food was fresh and of high quality, and, it was cooked to perfection. This restaurant really is a gem in Exmouth’s crown.

We came here after a poor customer service at another close restaurant which out of politeness we won't mention The food here was good but a little bland and the customer service was okay. Gorgeous and quirky restaurant 5 minutes from exmouth seafront. We had breakfast - the food was fresh and tasted great. The lunch and dinner menu looked lovely but we didn't get chance to try it. Completely by chance my friend and I noticed the beautiful and stylishly decorated Chronicle , on Sunday 16th July . We stayed because the music was unobtrusive and pleasant. We enjoyed a generous portion of Roast Beef and Roast Pork . Well presented with courtesy by the friendly staff . The decor reminded me of a 1927 Film ‘ Metropolis ‘ . I recommend this restaurant for its attention to detail .

Love coming here for whatever mealtime it is. Everyone that works there is friendly and makes sure you’re looked after. Food is excellent with thought and love put into it all. Love it

Front of house staff were very friendly but we did hear some swearing which was a little unprofessional. The food was ok but for the price I expected it to be much better quality. The bread arrived in a dirty 'basket', The duck was overcooked and hadn't been trimmed properly. It took 25 minutes from asking for the bill to have the card reader bought over and we weren't even given the bill to look at. For £170 I expected much better and will not go back again.

Went in for a late breakfast, had to wait a while, but we weren't in any hurry, we were served the BEST breakfast ever! Everything was super tasty and NOT greasy at all. Most delicious, and excellent coffee! Would recommend!

Choice of Sunday meats of Turkey, Pork, Beef or an option of all 3 along with fish specials of the day. 3 of us went for the Sunday meats, one for fish. At the end, all of us could not heap enough praise on the quality, taste and value of the food along with attentive, polite, friendly and professional service. A massive thank you and well done to all the staff at the Chronicle. We will be back very soon and we are sorry it has taken us so long to visit in the first place.
