This was the best fish and chips I have ever eaten. We made a reservation, which I recommend, because it gets quite busy. When we walked down the lane and saw the restaurant we were a bit nervous, because from the outside, it looks like a little hole in the wall, but when you enter, it's a lovely surprise. Candles on the tables and walls, high ceilings, welcoming staff and a cozy atmosphere.

Came here on a Wowcher deal. £36 for 4 fish suppers and 2 bottles of wine. A great deal and 2 of the 4 in the party enjoyed their food. I don’t like fish but they were very happy to swap to haggis. The staff were friendly and happy to assist however the food was very greasy and the haggis has too much batter. I’m gutted because I had heard so many good things about this place and was so looking forward to trying. Each to their own I suppose.

My brother and his wife ate here in 2010 while on a tour and recommended it to me. 8 years later, I wasn't expecting it to live up to their raves BUT happily can report that they were right on the mark! Don't let the entrance put you off. It literally is doon the Lane which is darkish, a bit dirty and probably scarey if on your own. Once you go through the door and up the stairs, it is the difference between chalk and cheese! Jody, our waitress was pleasant and courteous. We recommended it to others on our tour and they to enjoyed it.

We attended Chippy doon the lane for a meal pre a gig. Firstly they did not have the drinks we ordered, yet they were on the menu. We waited 25 minutes for a starter. The main course was almost 1 hour wait - for fish and chips!!. A chip shop can make it fresh in 10 - 15 minutes. I approached the manager who said because we had a starter it holds up the main course!!!. They had also run out of haddock!!!. Customers were turned away as they were too busy. I counted 16 people in the restaurant. I am yet to understand why it takes almost 1 hour to prepare a simple meal in a virtually empty restaurant. The starters were nice. The staff seemed dis interested in the fact many customers were complaining. We will not be back.

I visited Chippy Doon the Lane with 2 friends that I had brought to visit my home town. One of the girls was desperate to try a Haggis Supper and I had been boasting about the good suppers you get in Glasgow. When we arrived at the restaurant, that had been recommended to us by a guy in the street, it was closing for the evening. The lovely waitress, Laura, was so lovely and sympathetic once we explained that my friends were tourists and desperate to try good Scottish Chippie food. She asked us to wait and spoke to the chefs, who, bless them, were cleaning the kitchen down. They were more than happy to cook for us and Laura sat us down to some of the best fish and chips I have had. We enjoyed being able to have wine etc with our meal and even though we were the only ones left in the restaurant it never felt uncomfortable. The ambiance and whole atmosphere of the place is great and Laura was amazing and we would like to thank her for staying on when everyone had left so we could have our suppers. She is was so welcoming, helpful and attentive. She truly is an asset to this place.Thank you to the chefs, we wanted to buy them a beer as a thank you but they had gone and a big thank you to Laura for helping us out and avoiding what could of been a big disappointment for my friends. You have to visit this place if you are in Glasgow!

Been to the chippy in Glasgow a few times and always enjoyed the food and thought we would give the one in Hamilton a chance. Monday to Thursday they do two fish suppers for £12 and that is exactly what we had. The restaurant itself is surprisingly spacious inside with several tables and also booths. The place was pretty empty when we arrived and we ordered two haddock suppers. The portions were large and the chips nice and crispy. I personally found the fish had very little taste although my better half said hers was fine. Drinks are reasonable with a pint of lager £3.60 and a glass of wine about £4. I don't think I would rush back but it was ok.

We saw the owner of this place enthusiastically talk it up on Glasgow's Riverside Show so we thought we'd give it a go. My wife and I took our six year old there for Sunday dinner, arriving around 4.30pm. As we entered the only people in the place were the three members of staff sitting on a couch near the door. The got up as we walked in but the reception was frosty at best. Unfortunately that was as good as it got and we spent the entire meal feeling rather unwelcome and a bit of an inconvenience. The food for the most part was ok. Being a chippy the bar is not set too high anyway but the chips did seem like they may have been frozen and the side order of onion rings was frankly disgusting, tasting like it had been fried in very old fat. We were all a little disappointed that the vinegar of choice was malt rather than 'chippy' style and we finished up quickly and left vowing this would be our last visit.Any establishment has one shot at keeping a customer and good service goes a very long way to fostering loyalty, even if the food is just ok. After our experience we're in no doubt as to why the only other member of the public we saw on our visit was a woman asking if her son could use the loo.We also thought it rather telling that as we left the woman who had cooked our food returned from outside carrying what looked very much like a takeaway from another establishment. Not recommended I'm afraid. We won't be back.

I went there with my daughter for a meal, she had been 3 times and this was to be my second visit. First time was great, this time was a disaster. I ordered haddock and was served with 3 small pieces, 2 were greasy and the third had been burnt to a crisp, it had obviously been cooked previously. Inside the dark thick batter was about 1 inch of grey fish, I queried whether it was hadock and was told it was but I think I was served coley and not haddock, they then gave me a free glass of white wine for me and my daughter had red. Unfortunately, Dylan, who served us, was very clumsy and spilt the red wine which covered my daughter's cashmere sweater, which later she had to destroy and splashed onto my woolen coat which I now have to have dry cleaned. This was the second time Dylan was clumsy, the previous time my daughter went there, he dropped a hot fish onto her silk skirt while serving her, very clumsy indeed. They did not offer to have them cleaned. They have lost a good few customers now as my son, his friend and father went there also but none of us will be going back.

Did not receive bread with the fish suppers which. Customers who arrived after us also got their food served a good while before us. There was also several young children (seemed like they could be related to some members of staff) running around the restaurant and making noise. They also sat in the booth behind us and ordered a dominos pizza, which one of the waiting staff paid for, then recieved this order and began eating in the booth behind us whilst we were eating our own meal. This is my fourth visit to this new Hamilton restaurant and unfortunately, I will not be back. The first two visits were good. Lovely fresh white fish in a golden, crispy batter. Chips not so great and seemed to be frozen chips rather than fresh chips. I noticed the place lacked in atmosphere and the staff did not look the happiest bunch. I even noticed one blonde waitress texting on her phone in full view of the customers, which I didn't find very professional. During my third visit, Dillon served my boyfriend and I, and on bringing the fish suppers to the table he dropped my dinner onto my skirt, which is pure silk, and has left an oil stain on it. This will need to be dry cleaned. No sincere apology was made nor an offer to have it cleaned for me. I was reluctant to return after this however, my mum wanted to go so I went with her this afternoon. She ordered Haddock, and it clearly wasn't Haddock. We mentioned it to Dillon. He checked with the chef who insisted it was. Anyway, as my mum wasn't happy we were offered a free drink. He brought over our wine, and spilled a full glass of red wine all over my Cashmere sweater and over my mum's coat. He is obviously very clumsy as this is the second time he has damaged my clothes. Once again, no sincere apology, no offer to have my sweater or my mum's coat cleaned. We will not be back. My sweater is ruined. The worst customer service I have ever received in a restaurant.

My older son had cod and chips and it was cooked to perfection. My wife had haggis supper which was very tasty. We all had a soft drink and the bill came to under £40.Have been to the Glasgow restaurant many times and the decor in Hamilton doesn't quite match up to that of Glasgow's place. Service was very good, just don't feel that the place is quite ready to compete with the Glasgow branch. Having said this I'd still eat here any time I'm in Hamilton. I may be wrong but I'd disagree with an earlier reviewer who suggested the chips were of the frozen variety, I'm quite sure they're not.

Wouldn’t rush back. Very slow service. Waitress sat us right next to the door in the bar area when there was many empty tables in the restaurant- we had booked our reservation a week in advance so weren’t too happy with this as it created a draft with the door opening and closing. No check back on how our food was or if we even needed another drink which meant we had no drink for our starter. Once we managed to get the waitresses attention for a drink, we were almost finished our main so no drink for starter or main. Drink finally came and we had finished our meal. Fish was ok, not worth £15 especially when you get around 8 chips and my partner had lots of bones in theirs. The waitress spent most of the time on her phone and chatting to another waitress. Probably the reason for slow drinks, no side plates, no sauces, no check in. Definitely not worth £80 with the service we received.
