The Chippie in Richmondshire

Have visited Hawes regularly for over 30 years but only started using the Chippie in the past 3/4 years. Never fails to please called in today (3rd Feb) and noticed they did battered haggis. Asked by the friendly man what I required I ordered 2 haggis and fish and chips to share between myself, my wife and our elderly Border terrier. Everything was cooked to perfection & tasted lovely. Can highly recommend a visit if you're in the Hawes area.

Absolutely the best fish and chips, I go frequently and the standard never slips. The staff are cheerful and friendly. I was one character short so had to add this sentence.

Have been here several times and food is always outstanding, curry sauce is a particular highlight, onion rings are great and everything is not greasy, unlike other chip shops I've been to!

Visited twice for take-away during our weeks stay in Hawes. Very popular as usually a line outside the door. Very good quality fish and chips cooked to order - no complaints.

Wish there was a good button. It was better than average but not very good. All good was very hot and freshly cooked. Portions large. Fish a bit greasy and uneven batter didn't help. Tartare sauce horrible

Fantastic chippie. The haddock was absolutely massive and perfectly cooked, the batter was lovely and crispy and not greasy. Nice chips and a huge portion. Everything cooked fresh to order as well.

Called in and had tge chippy dinner, fish, mushy peas and chips with tea and bread and butter. It was a substantial meal, the fish was excellent, cooked well. Staff friendly

Fish and chips is probably my favourite meal so I have had plenty of them in various locations but I can honestly say that my haddock and chips from The Chippie yesterday was amongst the best I have tasted....the batter on the fish was THE best I have ever tasted.....will be visiting again !!

This is a small chippy and can get busy. The usual selection of food, we just went for a tray of chips. Very friendly staff, a bit pricey but I suppose it’s what you expect with such a high volume of visitors to the village.

We ate at “the Chippie” on our first night in Hawes. The staff were extremely friendly and they made us feel very welcome. My husband and daughter both had haddock and chip,which was very good. I had the homemade steak pie and chips which was amazing. A definite recommendation if you are staying in Hawes.

Great location in the village of Hawes with plenty of shops and pubs. Staff V. friendly, good service along with very tasty food whatever you choose. I had just the Curry and Chips and the wife had the Steak Pie. This was one of the best. Would definitely recommend.

We called in for our supper, I had Haddock and chips, my husband had Scampi and chips, they were very generous portions and absolutely delicious, the service was friendly and quick. Look forward to our next visit. Thank you.

Excellent traditional fish and chip shop, we ate in and avoided the queue out the door for takeaway (a good sign). We were seated and served quickly. Highly recommend- it is card only but this wasn’t an issue for us.

Visited Hawes Easter Sunday, 2 portions of F&C(£8.50p each) Without doubt the best we have had (we’re over 40). The chips were golden brown, slightly crisp and no grease at all. Fish was really fresh and perfect batter. Highly recommend.

Whilst staying in Hawes, we needed to visit The Chippie twice given the shortage of takeaways available at present due to the current (at time of writing) COVID measures.I'm not a keen fan of battered fish, but the lightly battered cod I had was fantastic quality with just enough coating to be crisp.The chips were also of a high quality and the full portion I had the first evening was more than filling. (If you get something to go with your chips, pick the half portion).I decided to have curry sauce with my fish and chips and it's great to be able to get old fashioned curry sauce with raisins in it .All in all, great value for money - both in quality and portion size.
