The Cherry Tree in Rochford

A lovely place to stay. Clean and comfortable.

We stayed overnight and had lunch in the restaurant. We had a very good experience and we will definitely go back but take our doggy as well when we do.

Been here a few times now. As always the food and service is excellent.

A birthday meal celebration for a family member. We basically had the whole restaurant to ourselves. Good service, happy and friendly. Good food, too. A wonderful, cozy environment with a separate place with high backed leather chairs and open fire. So nice to go out and not have to listen to a TV blaring out football games.

Accommodated us without a prior booking. Very good service. Sophie, who served us, was a hit. She was brilliant with the children, too.

We arrived quite late for lunch on a Friday afternoon. We were seated quickly and the waitress came to take our drinks order and give us the menus. The surroundings were warm and comfortable and seasonally decorated. There was a varied choice of meals, including a ‘smaller plates’ menu. The food arrived in a short time and it was all absolutely delicious. The service throughout was friendly and helpful. We’ll definitely be calling again.

Table was booked for 7.30. We ordered starters and main, food was lovely. Went to order desert only to be told kitchen shut at 8 pm. We were not told this on booking or throughout the evening. Spoilt the evening

Had the beef sirloin roast - amazing! Can't fault the service either - both friendly and attentive . Great experience and worth the drive out to the countryside - will 100% be going back. Thanks guys.

One of the starters came out wrong at first but food good for pub grub

Family visiting from Canada so a lovely venue for a natter and catch up over lunch. Staff and service were very good, friendly and attentive. Food was delicious. I haven’t been to The Cherry Tree for a while so my biggest disappointment was to find that their stunning Shepherds Pie is no longer on the menu!! Would highly recommend.

Booked table online but refused the requested time slot by phone call so agreed a later time. On arrival, very disappointed to see half empty restaurant so confused at why refused an earlier time slot. Overall staff were good and meal was good. Restaurant felt cold so wear a jumper.

We had food and drinks at the Cherry Tree last night for the first time and took part in the quiz too, all was really good and enjoyable, 2 members of the team there as well were great and looked after us, we will certainly be back.

Lovely meal, we had great time , was nice to see it busy but still great service, the Chef(with miniature great Dane😂) was hilarious 😂 we will come again The Singapore noodles 🍜 and Eton mess delicious 😋 thanks

Lovely pub. Nice friendly attentive staff. Gluten free fish and chips was lovely. Hunters chicken also fine. Roast beef was inedible. Mine wasn’t the only one as another couple sent theirs back. Replacement offered. I declined. Puddings were delicious. Bill was discounted when I went to pay which was an appropriate gesture. Thank you

Waited a long time for the food but was still enjoyed the afternoon

Fantastic place to go near Rochford. Isn’t easily accessible without a car due to the roads. However very lovely food, large and spacious, disabled access, dog friendly. Public garden which has loads of seating and is lovely in the better weather. Great selection of well made and delicious food and the staff where lovely.

disappointed with this visit where we had on previous occasions enjoyed pie and steak meals on numerous days. This time brought friends from afar to enjoy a meal with us after singing the establishments prtaises for good food and portions. As for the home of pies I feel this no longer holdsthe title.Small portions small pies and all hard thick pastry little meat. All the wonderful desert cakes have gone. Love place and staff but food is an overpriced let down. Will not rush back if at all? Not recommending this anymore. Cost cutting to the point of lost business. An embarassment to us for recommending this to our friends.

Never again will I lay eyes on this sorry excuse of a restaurant. It is banned from my list and so it should be from anyone´s. The service is the sort that one would expect from a fast food chain, but without its speed and simplicity. The waitresses (all females) were more concerned about how they looked rather than who to look. It seemed like a competition and the one to have the greatest attitude attending a table was the winner. Very poor experience.

Quick visit with my wife as was in the area. I had fish and chips which was a lovely piece of haddock, with chips and mushy peas. My wife had a chicken caesaer salad which she enjoyed. Halloumi fries made a nice starter. Very nice pub and toilets also spotlessy clean. Nice ambience. although I am around 10 miles away will try and come back as very enjoyable experience.

Stopped here for a quick drink, while we were on way to Rochford to pick something up. We were impressed. Will return soon,for a meal. Lots of character.

4 of us went for a late lunch. Service was excellent, and the food very good. This was our second time eating there. We will definitely be going back again.

We were celebrating 2 family birthdays, both special birthdays. The Manager and staff were excellent. Couldn't do enough for us. Their help with the cakes and balloons made it the special occasion we wanted. Food was great, selection excellent and great value for money. The Service, like I say was excellent, helpful, friendly and always ready to see to our needs. I have been several times before and its always good. The restaurant is clean, spacious and comfortable. Thank you all!!

Great food,great service,nice and friendly staff

We stumbled upon this lovely place last week. Its absolutely stunning inside, the decoration and accessories give it a really lovely feel. It's was very clean as well. We were so happy about finding a new place as we have moved down from Suffolk. The service was excellent but unfortunately, the food didn't hit the mark for us. We both had the hunters chicken, the portions were a bit small (compared to price and other pubs) and rather dry. My husband had chios, so added ketchup, but I had mash and I needed to drink to help swallow it. There are not really many slightly healthier choices, but on the whole, a lovely place, we were gutted as its lovely.

We went to the cherry tree today for the first time and had a Sunday roast. The staff was so friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked through the door. The setting was nicely decorated with a good atmosphere. Food was lovely, service was 5 star and fairly priced. We will definitely be returning.

Very nice staff Good fish and chips Hunters chicken tho way too small

Took my partner and mum here for Sunday lunch and it was a massive disappointment to say the least....I had the chicken liver patè to start the presentation wasn't very inviting and there wasn't enough bread for the amount of patè served my partner had the chicken skewers with where cooked very well and tasted amazing but again the presentation was lacking. for the mains my mum and partner had the roast beef and I had the belly pork. when the dinners arrived it was evident that the beef was very over cooked as it was grey, the potatoes on all dinners where very undercooked, solid and inedible the other veg on the plate was tasteless and again hard. my belly pori did not have any crisp to it as expected and after the first mouthful I realised that I was served a lump of fat, there was no meat on my belly pork at all. when we managed to flag 8ver a member of staff the waitress was t really bothered about our disappointment with the dinners and just took the mains away. After a brief chat with the manager in the kitchen she returned, apologiesed and asked if we wanted anything else, again I feel she didn't really care we declined and just asked for the bill. Needless to say that the dinners where taken off the bill and our Sunday lunch ruined, we left extremely disappointed and hungry. It was such a shame as I had been there for lunch before and it was amazing so I had high hopes for the Sunday lunch there.

Visited today for a family lunch, which of course included two of our dogs. Staff were attentive and helpful. Food was delicious, very good sized portions and well presented. Our dogs were offered treats and water too ☺️ Will definitely return very soon. Thank you 😊

We attended a wedding reception at this venue yesterday 12th August, wow what a place. The food supplied by the ever attendant staff was just amazing, including delicious vegan/vegetarian options. Jamie could not have been more helpful, from the time we arrived in the morning...

We thought we would go for the two meals for £16, Monday to Wednesday. Trouble is, this is actually restricted - to a board that they could not provide, but could tell us that there was no fish and chips, no scampi, no sea bass,...

Heard new owners were better than the old so we gave it a try. Very satisfied. Staff were excellent, good selection on the menu with a good option of smaller portions, food nicely cooked and very tasty.

We called in on the off chance and invited to select any table of our choice. The waitress was extremely friendly and we selected two light meals which were served very quickly and both were excellent. I chose a Nelson beer to accompany my meal...

This is a lovely pub.. excellent staff, wonderful atmosphere...and a lovely venue inside and out! Plus. this is a very.dog friendly establishment that is an added extra bonus.

We had 2 rooms, which were clean, tidy, and well appointed. The staff were friendly and very curtious. The only small issue was that our room hadn't been restocked properly, as my daughters room had milk and biscuits that we didn't have, and the towels were quite small.... I'd stay again without a doubt.

Good old country pub , plenty of parking

A bit underwhelming to be honest. The choice of ales has diminished and the food was just OK. The pandemic has long ended so my sympathy for pubs and and eateries has also diminished. Must do better.

This was not a good visit. This tim, my mum's mum's was cold and had to go back. The person who greeted us and took our drinks and food order never came back to us after my mum's dinner went back. Mine should have also gone back as it was a bit awkward to eat whilst my mum had no dinner and had to watch me eat mine whilst hers was gone. I'm not sure how my mum's meal was heated, but the pie crust was very wet and soggy when it came back. We did not have anything taken off our bill at the end for the first cold mash. I thought that the roast was rather expensive at nearly £16.

Had a really nice meal here tonight. Shame about the previous poor reviews as our meals were well cooked and came quickly. Not many here tonight but staff efficient and attentive. Will come again.

I feel bad for front of house young’s girls having to deal with the poor show. Quiet honestly huge organisation is a joke! I assume chief is totally incompetent to run a kitchen!! It’s a real big disappointment don’t go for food only a drink on route to Royal Oak or lakes for food

Sadly this wasn't a very good experience this visit. We arrived 15 minutes before our booking and promptly sat down. Our order was also promptly taken, though had to wait over 90-minutes for our food to arrive. No explanation was given for the delay. I would also say they were not inundated with other diners? To compensate us we were offered a free desert, which we enjoyed. We also had to ask the waitress where our coffees were!

Had a great stay at the Cherry Tree in Rochford, would definitely visit again. Easy online booking via the Red Cat Pub chains website for a double room at £60. Arrived in the middle of a very busy Sunday lunchtime the place was buzzing and full of families, we were greeted warmly and shown to our room which is in a small annexe. The whole place is immaculate and spotlessly clean, it has been refurbished to a very high standard, the staff were friendly and welcoming and the food (we had Sunday roasts @ £15 each) and pints ( 2 pints cost just over a tenner) were great. I genuinely can't fault this place, the rooms were perfect, the toilets were spotless, the shower was great, the portions were generous and the staff were all lovely. 10/10

Came for a family birthday meal and had a lovely time. Very friendly and welcoming. Nice food and atmosphere. Only small complaint was that our meals did come out in dribs and drabs which is frustrating when some people are waiting a long time while...

Did not stay but people I know said they had and the rooms are very good.

We went in March 2023 and the Cherry Tree has clearly had a lot of money spent on a complete refurbishment, and all to very good effect. The whole place has a great feel and is really clean and tidy. The waiting staff were really cheerful and pleasant, and went above and beyond to check on ingredients to save any problems for a member of our party with food intolerance. The dishes were really well presented and tasted delicious. Of our party we had one ribeye steak, two scampi and chips and one chicken Caesar salad. All plates were cleared and everyone enjoyed their food. Quantities were reasonable. There was a fair choice of dishes and several were inviting. We all had puddings too. None of us tried the toilets. We did not have children with us on this occasion. The car park is generous. Would I eat here again? 100% yes!

It's been a while since I've eaten here and my goodness, the place wowed me tonight! Firstly, it was great to see the car park so full again. Then even better to enter a warm, pleasantly busy restaurant. The icing on the cake for me was the delicious 6oz Bavette steak I ordered, served with salad and sweet potato fries. Yes.....I had to google what it was! It was tender and juicy, with a gorgeous delicate chargrilled flavour, a generous cut and very reasonably priced. I'd highly recommend it and will definitely be back to order it again.The new menu offers a good range of delicious sounding light bites and meals. Can't wait to try something else from it! :D

Not a great Sunday lunch. Maybe we were too early at 1pm but food took an age to serve, dishes weren't served together and were variable. The last plate of beef was extremely rare, unlike others, and after being returned from the kitchen had clearly just been thrown on a hot griddle and was then very dry and barely edible. The response to complaints was unprofessional at best. A poor experience.

This was our 2nd visit under the new management & it didn't disappoint. Lovely food & really great, friendly service.

Very poor service. Orders got mixed up, several times and orders delivered unevenly, there were 7 of us. Last beef roast came with uncooked beef which on complaining was taken away and had obviously been grilled and reserved but was not edible. Was given a discount on complaining but spoilt a family get together. Will not go there again.

Living within walking distance for 20 plus years we've seen this place go through many changes of management and refurbishment. So pleased that, at last, they now seem to have a good team in place. We really enjoyed our meal last night. Long may it continue.
