Our first visit and we couldn’t fault it. Lovely Sunday lunch, (traditional or Thai options), great food and service couldn’t be better. Thanks!

It's an OK pub, it shut at 8.30pm last visit due to no staff!

Following our family dining experience yesterday I really wanted to give some feedback. The food was EXCEPTIONAL, fresh as could be and beautifully presented. The ladies looking after us were also exceptional, friendly, intuitive and warm. I understand that one of them went out to get some non-metal straws for one of our little ones! It was perfect to be seated in that area given that we were a large (and maybe a little noisy at times) family group. I can’t thank you and your team enough for a wonderful Boxing Day lunch. We will be back ASAP!!

Lovley food! Lovely servers, however, a bit slow, to be expected for a Friday night. Although, unfortunately, caught some staff members talking unkindly about our waitress. Slight mix up with meals, we are only human, we were not unhappy or mad, just a shame to catch colleagues red handed talking openly out on the restaurant floor about another colleague in front of customers. Furthermore, manager would rather catch up with friends and discuss her next job opportunity at a school than to take my money to pay for our food.

Always a lovely welcome. Food is excellent, as are the staff. Love it that they use local breweries too

Delicious food and excellent service. We had starters, main courses and dessert and all were very tasty, well presented, and obviously freshly cooked & hot. Our waitresses were lovely; kind and helpful and very knowledgeable about the dishes on the menu. Well done The Chequers; we'll be back!

A lovely pub with v helpful staff. We were on our bikes and were made to feel most welcome. Tom Yum soup delicious and a pot of tea/Wherry just hit the spot! We need to return for a full meal!

Six of us plus a friendly dog had the best Sunday lunch at The Chequers, Orwell yesterday. The food is served promptly and is absolutely ace. If you’re having a local walk at Wimpole, and looking for somewhere to eat afterwards.. look no further. Great value and delicious.

We had the most delicious three course lunch here , what a find! The food is freshly prepared, cooked to order, so there is a bit of waiting, but oh my, is it worth it. We started with tempura vegetables and prawns, so light and crispy and utterly delicious. Then Thai style haddock with lemongrass, ginger and coriander, light and fragrant. Our desserts were also wonderful, home prepared and a lovely end to the meal. We hope to return!

Decided to stop here for lunch on our way to Wimpole estate. The food was alright for a country pub, definitely don't expect a Michelin level culinary experience though.

A fantastic pub with really great home cooked food. We turned up for Sunday lunch without booking and they managed to create two great quality roast dinners with crisp, fresh cooked vegetables and all the trimmings. The home cooked individual pecan pie for dessert was the best I have tasted. A really popular place with lots of visitors and very dog friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Food was good. Bit better than expected in little village pub. Seen other reviews but we thought portion size and price were about par for course. Atmosphere bit bland, could use some dressing up. Over 30 minutes wait for board specials of day seemed a bit long.

We came across this pub on our way to Cambridge on Saturday and thought we would stop off for a quick lunch. OMG! The food was amazing. So much so that I called them on Sunday to see if they had a table for our return journey. The staff were lovely and extremely helpful. They were happy to advise on the non gluten dishes that they had. Both the three cup chicken and the chicken curry were fantastic, I highly recommend them. We will certainly make the trip to Orwell again.

Visited on the recommendation of our landlady where we were staying, also because of the great reviews. Not disappointed! Food was fab, chicken supreme and haddock and chips, both superb, pecan tart was amazing! Service smiley and chatty. My only criticism is that it's a 3 hour drive for us, so can't make this our local!

Super Thai food on the menu and garden has been looked after - pleasant eating outside on a sunny evening. Staff were very helpful and efficient.

Had an excellent night at The Chequers in Orwell. Food looked and tasted great, staff were friendly and efficient and we got to talk to the Chef as well! would recommend to family and friends.

We received a voucher as a gift & exchanged it for a lunch (starter & main). We both had really great meals & the service was first class. Fully recommend this venue.

Lovely little local pub with tasty pub food plus a few oriental specials. Reasonable prices compared with places closer to 'rip-off Cambridge'. Good atmosphere, will be visiting again.

Lovely pub. Will definitely come back. The food was delicious (we had starters, a curry, a burger and some amazing desserts). The staff was delightful too - everyone was extremely helpful and welcoming. Can't wait to go back!

Really enjoyed my meal here, I took the children, and they and I were made to feel extremely welcome. The service was very good and food was good. A children's menu is available for a very good price.

2 stars may be harsh as the Pub itself was very busy and we were told as it was a busy night could we send our food orders in so we would not wait once arrived. This sounds a go idea but never came out that way. Waited forty-five minutes once seated. So why bother to advance order? The menu is not at all offering a great list and we found it hard to find what it is supposed to be 'A Thai restaurant' menu. I am sure they will keep busy but not by us returning for the cost that we felt for the amount eaten was far too expensive.

We went here for a couples meal after being gifted a gastro pub voucher and this was one of the options. It was a very warm and welcoming country pub, with a really busy and lively atmosphere in the bar area. It was lovely to see such a clearly thriving country local pub! The restaurant was a cosy and intimate setting, with only a few tables. Were were served by a lovely and attentive waitress who explained exactly what our voucher was entitled to and made it so easy and uncomplicated as sometimes using a voucher can feel! We had 3 courses, prawns and squid starters which were cooked really lovely, Asian mains, I had a Thai curry and my husband had chicken in black bean and they were so fresh, good quality ingredients and you could tell they had been cooked with care and by someone who cooked well! We were very pleased with the mains, I had desert which was pecan tart and ice cream and it was absolutely gorgeous! Hands down one of the best puddings I've ever had. Genuinely this restaurant is lovely, great good quality, fresh food with great service.

Our usual haunt, its just homely.

We really enjoyed our meal, a limited menu but wonderful flavours, particularly the asian food. The menu included steaks, seafood, and some pub staples as well as the asian food, so a good variety even within the limited choice. My thom yum hot and sour soup was delicious, as was the daily special of pork in black bean sauce. The service was very good, but being a Wednesday evening only 4 diners, so the atmosphere was a little lacking. But we will definitely return. Three courses and a glass of wine about £40 a head with tip.

I have eaten in this pub several times, curries, steaks, ciabatta sandwiches - Tina's duck wraps are to die for, and have found the food nothing short of excellent on all occasions. So I was surprised to see she'd been left a negative review about a takeaway bought a few days ago. Nothing rings true about the negative comments made, on this occasion, so can't imagine what caused this. Just by way of redressing the balance. .

Went to eat at The Chequers as I had been gifted a dining experience voucher and after reading the reviews I thought I would go for this place. Staff were friendly but we did have to wait a while for food considering there was only 1 other table eating that we could see. Starters were ok but I would say nothing was made on the premises. I had fish for my main which was lovely but there were 3 hairs on my rice, my partner had ordered pork and received beef which would of taken 15 minutes to rectify. The waitress did honour her word and allow us a free drink to make up for the mistake but on redeeming the voucher it was clear we should of had a 3 course meal anyway so I feel like the gift was a bit of a con really. Unfortunately I wouldn't hurry back again which is a shame because I had heard really good things.

Really chill pub with impressively good food! And not just your standard pub grub, really good Thai curries and oriental stir fries.

Excellent food here. Had the best fish I'd eaten for a long time and the special stir fry was really nice. Would recommend that you order a side of chips or you might still be hungry! Other than that, could not fault the food or service. Recommended.

A nice local pub with friendly, accomodating staff and lots of space, indoors and outdoors. The menu includes some options that the kitchen are happy to make vegan, and they are delicious.

Amazing all round superb food and the staff are great

Very friendly staff talked with chef to arrange some vegan meals for us. Stir fried vegetables including Pak Choi and chilli was delicate, delicious and with a little kick at the end. Tempura vegetables excellent in light batter. Highly recommended

After a long day moving from Stockport we all went to Chequers for dinner I had the a Thai Oriental Peppered Beef with extra Prawns absolutely the Best Thai Meal I've ever eaten and the Pecan Tart with Ice-cream just finished it off. Jasmine the waitress who had a great knowledge of all the menus and made the choice of meals easy I could go around all 4 who dined there on Saturday every one gave it 5 stars

Had a 3 course meal in the chequers today temporary prawns for starters roast pork for main and peacan tart and ice cream for dessert all food served was very tasty and veg cooked to perfection . Great staff and stunning pub. Well done to the cooks and staff we had a great meal. And nice drive out from Hertfordshire

I booked a table on Saturday for a family lunch for very large group of 16 people, 2 babies & a dog & from the initial booking (I dealt with the very lovely Tina) right through the meal I found the communication & service to be absolutely impeccable. Tina & her team are running an amazing pub here & the standard of food and the service from staff was outstanding. Thank you, we will be back!

Visited there this Saturday. I had the Thai chicken with three spices.blew my taste by, the combination was the best I have experienced. Mum haddock in tempura batter, which she loved and it was light as it should be. Sister had the haddock without and said it was so fresh

Booked an evening meal here whilst visiting the Duxford Air Show based on the reviews of others. A very warm welcome from Jasmin, good menu choice, reasonably priced, delicious food. Would highly recommend.

Meal OK but not fantastic I will go back again to try Something differant. Staff were lovely couldn't have been better.

Stopped here for a quick lunch. We were very pleased with our meal. Everything was freshly prepared and delicious. The curry was great, on par with any nice thai/asian restaurant in Cambridge. Would heartily recommend.

I’ve come here for a few meals throughout the year and one thing remains the same, the energy and friendliness of the young bar staff. The food is great but the welcoming energy and attentiveness of them is what really made the experience whole.

A very warm welcome and lovely, cheery service throughout. Puppy and toddler friendly with water provided for the dog and a high chair for the little one. The food was enjoyable, well-priced and portions were just right for a lighter lunch, plus served nice and hot as well as promptly despite the pub being relatively busy. The back garden isn't huge (although there is additional seating to the front) and needs a little TLC , but would highly recommend for a relaxed pint and pub lunch.

A friendly welcome and a decent pint or two. Food menu is limited but it was well-cooked and tasty. Oriental special was particularly good on the evening we went.

Visited Jun2021 after a 10 mile walk. Sat outside in a glorious evening sun. Beer kept well, good fresh taste to the real ale. Two course meal was excellent. Tempura battered haddock was cooked to the most exquisite perfection, chips done spot on. Cappucino brulée was luxurious, packed full of flavour and correctly sized. Chocolate fondant was sumptuous. Encouragingly, the pub was relatively busy for a locked-down Wednesday night.

A gem! Stopped off unplanned to break a long journey. Had the 'oriental special' which was the best prawns ever eaten in my life. Speedy. Lovely staff.

We were so incredibly impressed by the wonderful hospitality, delicious food and incredible service that we received at The Chequers Orwell. After a visit to National Trust Wimpole we stopped off and had dinner there. We were met with such a warm and friendly greeting from Tina one of the owners, who went out of her way to accommodate all of our very varied dietary requirements. Lovely enclosed garden at the back of the pub. Fantastic menu. Can't recommend highly enough! If I could give more than 5* review I would.

Emailed early in the morning on the bank holiday for a table, speedy response and absolutely worth it!! Amazingly tasty Tempura haddock with peas and chips, so light and delicious. Very good size fish and the chips must be double cooked as they were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Service from the lady amd lad working was just really lovely, quick to serve and apologies for delay (even though there was non) seating out front, in side and out back. Sat out back was quiet as only 2 othe tables were taken. highly recommended and we will be back for sure 5 starts all round!

Met up with friends here for lunch, first time for a pub lunch in 4 months due to COVID. Staff were excellent so was the beer and the food was superb.

Having moved to Orwell recently we decided to try the Chequers Sunday Roast . We’ve eaten there a few times already but with lockdown here again we can only order a takeaway sadly. That said we ordered Pork and it was fabulous . Tasty, fresh vegetables and all really well cooked . Will definitely order again and would highly recommend

Visited today because we received a voucher for burgers and ale. What an absolute gem of a pub. Excellent food and friendly staff in a stunning country pub. Will definitely be back after seeing the menu and realising they do thai specials. If your in the area its an absolute must.

As the threat if more restrictions mounts, we brought forward our planned lunch with friends. We had no trouble booking a table the same day. Attentive service, excellent food as always. It was worth grabbing a meal here while allowed and while they have availability. We had the excellent duck salad, prawn and vegetable tempura, beef stir fry, tempura battered haddock and then the cappuccino creme brulee and the chocolate fondant which my wife said was yummy. The chef had lots of time to do an excellent job. Glad to eat well and support local restaurants

What a find! The Chequers just happened to be en route at lunch time on my weekly bike tour day so it was my lucky day. From my call to book, my call to say I was running late to leaving fully sated, all I heard was extremely friendly and welcoming from all staff and fellow patrons. The food and beer was excellent too and clearly the place is very well maintained with extremely comfortable chairs!

Having not been in The Chequers for a fair while, we decided to stop by for a pint after a walk in Wimpole Hall grounds. The beer was good but sadly that's where the positives end. The place was freezing. We didn't notice at first as we were warm from our walk but then we noticed other partrons wearing their coats. Neither of the open fireplaces were in use. The social distancing is poor at best. We are not paranoid but people were walking about not wearing masks, not adhering to one way systems and locals were propping up the bar. Back in the day this would be completely normal and we miss those days too. After mentioning this to the bar maid she went over to the group of locals and announced she had had a complaint. Cue all eyes in our direction, muttering and shuffling away from the bar. I think it will be a long time before we try it again!

Good food takeaway. Sat outside to eat. Well cooked good size servings. To be recommended.

I came here as it's literally the only pub in the village I'm staying in. I'll come back as it's AMAZING! Really really friendly staff, helpful, knowledgeable and cheerful. First night, I curled up on their comfy sofas with a book, the beer came regularly but without being hassled. Second night I came for food. Yum! Delicious food- where they ask you regularly enough if things are okay but leave you alone to enjoy it. I'm vegetarian and they made me a delicious tofu/veggie curry and there were many other options. Definitely recommend and am sad it's not nearer to my home town. Wish more were like it.

I visited for lunch on Saturday 8 August; I had originally booked for the preceding Wednesday, but the Bus didn't turn up, so I could not get there! But it was well worth the wait. When I arrived and gave my name, they immediately remembered that it was I who had had to cancel at the last minute on the Wednesday. I received a very warm welcome. The mixed tempura starter was delicious and generous, and included burdock root, common in Japan but unusual in the UK. They had also taken the trouble to shell and clean the prawns before frying. The frying was skilfully done and the food was not at all oily. I continued with the Taiwanese three cup chicken dish. This was excellent and came with steamed rice and a small vegetable garnish. I had a side order of vegetable spring rolls, which were very fresh, light and tasty. Finally a yummy plum crumble with quality vanilla ice cream. I washed all this down with two pints of a lovely, hoppy ale from Lacons brewery in Norfolk. Well done to Tina and the team and thank you for making me so welcome and for feeding me so well!

Freshly made, healthy Chinese dinner. Due to lock down it was take away only. But the food was delicious and the staff were really friendly.

In the unprecedented world of Covid-19, the Chequers have risen to the challenge and now serve their menu as take away. Put your order in advance and collect your food. The food is fresh and very tasty. A perfect adaption to meet the challenges of Covid-19, without losing any of the individuality and high quality of the food. Thank you Tina

Popped into The Chequers for lunch with friends after a circular 4 mile walk in Barton. Three of us had the tempura fish and chips, my wife had the baked cod - all of the food was served promptly, hot and the portion sizes were good. I washed my meal down with a nice pint of doombar. The member of staff on duty was friendly and helpful, no hesitation in recommending - very convenient if you have been to Wimpole Hall.

Having completed a 4 mile circular walk in Barton with friends we popped into The Chequers in Orwell for lunch. Three of us had the tempura fish and chips with garden peas, my wife had the baked cod with sautéed potatoes- our meals arrived promptly and were delicious. The member of staff was very helpful and friendly- really enjoyed our second visit to the pub we will return.

One of my favourite places to eat and take friends. The food is always very good and the service friendly. Front of house, Tina, is wonderful and always makes you feel very welcome. A lovely old fashioned pub with modern cuisine.
