The Chequers Inn at Wooburn Common in South Bucks

Lovely pub, thoughtfully done up and with friendly owners/staff. We stayed one night in a standard king and found it comfortable, spacious and clean. The breakfast the next day was great!

Very happy we picked this place for a quick stopover after a flight into Gatwick, before continuing our trip north... Clean & well-appointed rooms, a good restaurant and fantastic cooked breakfast. A nice rural location too, due to time differences we all woke a couple of hours before breakfast started, so went for a quick walk along the Chiltern Way path... spotted squirrels, deer, pheasants and various other birds along the way. We stayed in a junior suite, which had a sofa bed so our daughter had her own place to sleep. We were warmly welcomed by Nick and made to feel welcome by all the staff. Highly recommended.

Stayed the night here after a long flight into Heathrow. Good room which was clean and felt recently refurbished. Everything was as you would hope. Breakfast was excellent and overall a very positive experience. Value was good, its not cheap but price felt about right for the quality of the room.

Lovely relaxed environment. Second to none on the service. Food was fabulous too.

I visited this restaurant with my wife and father-in-law last Sunday, having booked the roast dinner. On arrival, we were greeted by smiling friendly staff which is always a good start. The restaurant had a nice, pleasant decor with plenty of natural light. The food was lovely and although roast chicken was not on the menu (it was lamb,beef, or pork), the kitchen kindly did that for me as I do not eat red meat or pork. The desserts were fantastic, highly recommend the chocolate mousse and the carrot cake, and the cost of the meal including drinks for the 3 of us was good value. Good food, attentive staff, and nice surroundings made for an enjoyable visit

Stopped for a lovely roast dinner as it was a Sunday. Really enjoyed the food. Ales and wine were good too. Plenty of space and not pressured so the ambiance made it very relaxing. I haven't been in The Chequers for some years and it has been extended and made into a really nice pub. We will call in again next time we are passing for more. Thank you to the nice, friendly and hard working staff. 🙂

My son and family were meant to stay here in October but had to cancel their visit as WAR broke out and he and his family were being bombed. The Inn refused to refund their money. So the place may or may not be lovely, he wasn't able to check it out in person. Talk about a lack of compassion.

After a few years’ of absencr it was great to be back for two nights’ stay at this Inn with a quiet location yet handy base for exploring Greater Lindon area and getting to the airports. It also features a high quality restaurant and we did enjoy a Bar menu on the first evening and an A la Carte on the second. Whilst the good quality and selection was suoerb , at breakfast we were a bit missing some fruits and seasonal berries in the selection.

Really impressed by the friendly service and buzz about the place. I went for the beetroot and goats cheese salad, and it was exceptional! All the meals looked great, and I would certainly head back there.

We arrived early for our booking but got a wonderful welcome and were found a table in the bar. Lovely atmosphere, friendly and relaxed. In the restaurant we had excellent service and great food. I am Coeliac and the attention given to my strict Gluten Free diet was exceptional, even a special dessert prepared for me which was fabulous! Good wine recommendations and a pleasant surprise when the bill arrived ... our bar tab while waiting wasn't too bad and the food was worth every penny. Will definitely return.

We booked 2 rooms for a weekend stay with friends. We stayed in the main pub in the annex at the rear which we were grateful for in freezing cold weather. The pub is lovely with a roaring fire and comfy seats. There is also a pretty garden for fine weather Our rooms were very clean and modern with good bathrooms and the breakfasts were great We ate here both nights and thoroughly enjoyed our meals - lots of choice on the menu and the food and service were excellent There is lots to do in the area - we recommend a visit to the NT property - Hughenden Manor

Initially was due to spend one night but it was so lovely I stayed another night. Food was beautiful, room really clean, bed unbelievably comfortable - had double doors out to a small garden area where there was a table and chairs. Staff were really lovely, especially a lovely blonde haired lady and her son who were working in the bar. They took my order, we all had a laugh and a joke together which was really nice as I was there on my own. Food was really delicious and I didn’t have to wait very long for it and it was lovely and hot when it arrived Looking forward to staying there again.

Impossible to chew fatty pieces of lamb. By far the worst Sunday lunch in years. Won’t be returning. Mediocre service, lack of ambience and very thin paper napkins. A very poor experience overall.

We booked over the phone for an overnight stay. Check in was a simple process, we were directed to the annex across the car park. Our accommodation was excellent, the room was large and very clean. Complimentary drinks in the room fridge for us. Bathroom facilities were also very clean and tidy. We booked a table in the restaurant, the food and service was superb, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast next morning was also very good as was the service. Overall we spent a little more than we would normally, however it was worth it as we couldn't fault anything, everything was more than perfect. Would highly recommend staying here, I'll certainly want to return.

We booked late in the afternoon for Friday 8th July 2022 and our room was beautiful - cool and clean with a wonderful comfy bed and gorgeous shower room - dinner that evening was delicious and so was the breakfast - would love to stay again - high recommended.

I have reviewed this place before a few years ago, but it is still excellent. Visited for sunday lunch on a sunny day. It was busy and luckily we had booked. We got a table outside. The road outside gets very little traffic, so it is peaceful. They have large umbrellas that shield from the sun. The roast beef was a full plate with all the trimmings, and perfectly cooked. I assume that we were served by the manager, who was very friendly and helpful. Has a good selection of draft beers. There is an extensive menu. For food of this quality, I found it to be very good value, and they don't add service to the bill. (we were only 2. Maybe for larger groups) This is attached to a hotel. I have not stayed there, but it looks to be very nice. Maybe next time!

We stayed here overnight 28th May as we were joining friends for a birthday celebration in Maidenhead. We didn't stay for an evening meal at the Chequers therefore but did have a 'light bite' mini fish and chips late afternoon after our 4 hour journey...

We had dinner at the Chequers and the food was really good but portions absolutely huge so only needed two courses. Staff lovely but as we asked for table to be brought forward and was told it was full so they couldn’t accommodate we were surprised to walk into an empty dining room when we arrived as pretty obvious they could have brought the booking forward but a small point. Ask to sit in bar or dining room off bar as we were in back dining room which was a bit soulless compared to the rest of the bar area but I think a lot of that was due to tables having been removed. Will definitely return but eat in the bar next time.

We were nearby and asked a local for a recommendation for a local place for lunch and he suggests the Chequers Inn. It’s in a nice quiet location. The food was delicious, I had a lamb rump cooked exactly as I like it my partner had a wrap with trimmings. The service was prompt and friendly and also, in these times very Covid safe. I would happily come again and if you are nearby well worth a try.

Reason for two stars Positive- waitresses were friendly, nice setting and very safe in regard to corona. Negative- Slow service, food was very greasy, nearly 2 hour wait for our mains. They didn’t have enough of the fish platter, but they sent it out anyway. We then said something and they said that they’d run out but didn’t think to mention that to us at the time of service. Wasn’t very nice, wouldn’t come back here again.

Staying here was HEAVEN! Can highly recommend The Chequers Inn in Wooburn, Beaconsfield ..... the cleanest place I’ve ever stayed at and the food was amazing! Highly recommend. Now I just need to find a reason to go back😉

The roast luch at the Chequers was first class. We had a selection of either roast pork or roast beef. Either were excellent. Ask for extra crackerling with the pork and yorkshires with both. Just outstanding service, quality of food and overall atmosphere.

Had a nice Sunday lunch here. Really good portions, with plenty of meat. Excellent wine list. Nice vibe and friendly waitstaff.

We went up to the chequers for lunch on Saturday and the food and atmosphere was great. I had the burger which was excellent and very filling. My wife is vegetarian and it was nice to see she had plenty of options. She had a risotto which she enjoyed. The bar staff were very friendly and convinced us to stay for an extra glass of wine by the fire. We’ll be back next Saturday I think.

We absolutely love The Chequers normally and were as excited as usual to go down for Sunday lunch. We normally eat in the restaurant and the food is normally excellent however on this occasion we sat in the bar and were so disappointed! We definitely got the dregs of the Sunday lunch...the potatoes were chewy, food quickly went cold and the meat was limited. Mint sauce arrived freezing cold as it had obviously been put in the fridge. We asked for more gravy simply to warm food up. We appreciate that we were heading towards the end of the serving time for Sunday lunch but if you are going to provide half quality of food then you need to half the price!! What a shame! Service was absolutely terrible as our waitress was miserable as sin!

After a 2 hour walk in Hambleden we decided to go for lunch at the Chequers Inn at Woburn. Battered haddock peas and chips sounded just perfect. After a short wait the food arrived. Chips piping hot but the fish warm and soft batter on the outside. The fish was like it had been cooked and reheated , or the deep fat fryer was not hot enough. We did mention to the bar staff to tell the chef. When asked on feedback it was “shrug of the shoulders” . Needless to say we won’t be going back there in a hurry . Lovely location and the beer is well kept.

Hadn't been to the Chequers for years - but I am really pleased that we tried it out. Great welcome at the bar. Friendly staff guided us to a very nice table in the well appointed dining room. Food was fabulous and the service was just right - prompt and friendly but not pushy. We all had a great evening and will certainly be back!

There was about 8 of us looking for a lunch after a trip to cliveden. We couldn’t get in to a few but had luck here as they had plants of space. Food was very good and came in a decent amount of time. Staff were very friendly and accommodating with seating three children.

We have been many times to the bar and had drinks and bar snacks which has always been great but had never eaten in the restaurant until last night.... we were very pleasantly surprised as it was just a perfect evening ...food delicious ...service first class...ambiance was just lovely especially as it was all very tastefully decorated for Xmas...we were a party of 6 and we will all most certainly be back ....lovely evening thank you Chequers Inn.

We opted to sit in the quieter restaurant rather than the busy bar area for our meal. The restaurant is at the back of the premises and was beautifully decorated in a modern style.We opted for the Christmas lunch menu. Food and service were both excellent.

Fantastic reception from the staff. Was a very quiet sunday when I attended for a weeks business trip. I have stayed in many similar in the area over the last few weeks and Chequers Inn have been best by far. Staff were quick and attentive, warm and informative. The approach road given by Google maps was closed on arrival but found other route to hotel. staff assured me all was ok, gave me directions for the morning and the reasons behind the road closure. 2 lovely big open fires on cold December evening. Great pub foood and good ale. Room was comfortable and nicely furnished.

Set in a small country lane you would think that nothing would spoil a peaceful night's sleep, and If you like small quaint hotels then this is the hotel for you. I stayed in room 9 as an overnight stay for work with two of my colleagues.

If you are thinking of having a meal at the Chequers, I strongly advise you to telephone first to check whether there is a large party in the restaurant the same time. We had made the reservation some weeks before our planned reunion with friends, and twice before that evening we had telephoned to adjust our reservation, but on neither occasion were we informed that there was also a large party of at least twenty diners in the restaurant at the same time. Although they were not a rowdy group, inevitably that number of persons conversing across the table resulted in a much higher noise level. Our table was situated only a meter from the group, which made conversation completely impossible, and immediately after our main course we left the dining room.

Such a lovely pub. Didn't have any food on this occasion as we only stopped for a drink. The staff was very nice and chatty. The food looked great and certainly smelled delicious. We'll definately want to try the Sunday Roast!

Happened to stumble across The Chequers Inn by accident on Sunday evening on the way back up town and decided to stop in for scran. Gee, what a find. Beautiful pub, very friendly staff. Although the girl behind the bar said the burgers had to be well done, but quote “not to worry the burgers are insane”. It did not disappoint. Biggest burgers I’ve ever seen and they were absolutely delicious. Highly recommend and will be back very soon.

The venue was spot on and im sure excellent for drinks but we went for dinner and I left feeling that the food was expensive and not value for money. The price points are all on the high side so you do expect something a little special but my food was very average . I didnt have a pudding but my son did and he said that was very good so maybe a mixed bag .The staff were very helpful and friendly and the reviews are very good so maybe we went on a off night

My husband found this restaurant on trip as we were in the area for my birthday. Set in a lively location the interior was modern,fresh,and inviting and so was the food. I had the vension starter which was amazing and the filet steak. I am very fussy about my steak but this did not dissapoint and the onion ring were fab. The dessert was great to. If I lived nearer I would be a regular but when we visit Windsor again we will be back x

We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of June for a wedding just round the corner at Hedsor House and we are so glad we did! What a lovely place, whether it's just for a drink/dinner or a overnight stay you won't be disappointed. Our room was clean, spacious and modern with a lovely view and even a complimentary mini bar with a few drinks and snacks along with tea/coffee and biscuits. I even got a parcel delivered there which reception took and kindly placed in my room when we were out! All staff we came across were helpful and friendly which makes the stay even better with a warm welcome. I would highly recommend this place if you are in the area and i hope to visit again sometime!

Stumbled across this place mid journey and in need of a clean bed and food -wow! Attentive check in by the owner- stunning large room with terrace and beautiful decor - immaculately clean as if no one had ever stayed here before ! Complimentary coffees, complimentary mini bar, robes, comfy bed - beautiful. Ate al a carte in the restaurant and had the MOST fantastic meal by the in house french chef - the duck scotch egg simply the best thing I’ve ever tasted and the lamb dish utterly superb - at only £85 for two courses two people and drinks all night - fantastic value - defiantly staying here again

Visited the restaurant with my parents who were staying at the inn. After some drinks in the cosy bar we moved to the restaurant which was beautifully set up. The food was delicious with very generous portions- my smoked salmon and citrus salad was huge and beautifully flavoured. The service was spot on- attentive without being overbearing- and they were beyond helpful in catering for my coeliac disease, adjusting the dishes I wanted.

Came here for a week end celebration. Stayed two nights. Cannot find fault with any aspect of our stay. Privately run, with an obvious "hands-on" approach, all elements of the business ran like clockwork. Staff were of the highest calibre. Nothing too much trouble.

When we arrived, there were three waitresses behind the bar. One busy girl smiled at us, the other two, who could clearly see us standing there waiting to order drinks, walked off and started cleaning tables... the busy girl had to ask Theresa to come and serve us. Rude, rude, rude. From the manner in which we were spoken to when ordering drinks to throughout the entire meal.

The food was at best mediocre and the vegetarian options severely lacking. Rather than giving us a menu we had to look at about 5 different boards around the room which is ridiculous because one member of our party had limited mobility. Printing a menu is not that hard. The tables were coffee table height and we had to sit in armchairs to eat. The service was slow and the pub lacked atmosphere. A disappointing experience all round.

We spent a great couple of nights recently in this country inn having visited it a couple of times in recent years just for lunch but were really impressed to see the refurbishment which has been taking place very sympathetically over the last eighteen months.

We booked which had we been eating in the fron of the place would have been wise but instead we ate in the restaurant which was entirely empty. Given that the menus overlap with no price differential I think we made the better choice although sandwiches and snacks would probably seemed inappropriate in the restaurant.

Where to begin. The foyer outside our room that had a complimentary hot drinks machine. The room that had a complimentary mini fridge. Seriously though, the room was of a very high standard. The bar staff were friendly and the bar offered 3 real ales which were all in good nick. We ate in the restaurant over two nights and the food was extremely good both in presentation and quality. Excellent place to stay.

We had the great pleasure to spend two nights at the Chequers Inn, staying in a luxurious, expansive suite with every possible amenity. The bed was so comfortable we decided we have to buy a new bed upon our return home. The Inn is full of old world and country charm, serving absolutely delicious food - both in the pub and in the lovely dining room. The Inn Manager, Nick, was instantly responsive to any request and his kind and friendly assistance made our stay a highlight to the UK. It is remarkable to have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful countryside, including a nearby walk down to the Thames, so close to Heathrow (less than 1/2 hour). We will ALWAYS stay at The Chequers Inn whenever we next travel to London.

4 of us went on a busy Sunday lunchtime, and hadn't booked so we weren't able to be in the main restaurant, or the main bar area, but had a table in a room off to the left hand side.

Great food, warm welcoming staff. Great little place in the countryside. Food is really good and presented well. Will be back again!

22 of us enjoyed a big family reunion over Easter. A while since I have been here personally as we moved out of the area last year. Glad to say the standards have not dropped. Familiar faces and fantastic service. We all preordered which made the food service very streamlined. All our meals were delicious and all the staff were very attentive. We do miss our regular trips to this great pub.

We held our special anniversary celebration here. The organisation was superb from the planning stages to the day itself, food was delicious and the rooms spotlessly clean and modern. We couldn't have wished for more.

They have both a restaurant and a pub. The food served is of great quality. Freshly baked bread, good choices, they even have indian dishes. Meat dishes were great. Service is also great.

This was our first visit and we were not disappointed. The reviews about dining in a hotel conference room are harsh. “Yes”, I can see why people might think that way but in my view any thought in this direction is more than made up for my excellent food, a fine service and charming staff.

This place had great reviews but they did not leave up to the reality of our visit. When arriving one is met with a mish mash of old pub and new extensions everywhere to maximise the site. The pub itself looked good with its open fire and comfy seating but we were shown through to the restaurant which was rather like a large characterless conference room.

Really enjoyed our stay in the Chequers, recently refurbished rooms are a very high standard. Lovely walk in shower only problem being the well lit bathroom mirror and shelf installed by a very tall man(I am 5’3”!) I can just see the top of my face!

Passed by this place yesterday in the morning and thought it looked nice so called in around 4.30 to see if they were serving food..... they were indeed serving food so took a table in the very comfortable bar area. I had the home made burger and husband had sausage and mash. The burger came with lovely chunky chips, and a lovely dressed salad... not just the obligatory bit of green garnish on a plate. !!! The sausage and mash was also excellent. We had the Most Amazing white chocolate tiramisu.... which we were told was the first time they had tried it on the menu yum really hope they keep it on the menu. Beautiful presentation. It was our first visit and will definitely return very comfortable and nice relaxed decor. Staff all very friendly too. Thank you.

We stayed here for my boyfriends birthday. It was exactly what we was looking for. Clean, beautiful, country side feels, modern. There are two parts to the hotel and we got a room in the seperate part which was so lovely. Was private and we had double doors opening on to a little patio garden. The pub had great atmosphere food was lovely. Will be returning in the summer for sure. 10/10. Great stay

I called to ask if they were still serving Sunday roast and until what time. The man who answered laughed at me down the phone and said “ until it runs out”. Quite insulting so I went some where else in stead.

I meet friends regularly for a mid week meal in the bar, a weekend dinner or Sunday lunch in the restaurant. Recently attended a friends Big Birthday in the lounge/function room. The food is always good, excellent wine selection, the staff attentive and the ambience welcoming. The pub is dog and family friendly, and smart without being precious. We are lucky to have this level of catering on the doorstep.
