The Cave in New Forest

The Cave is another of our favourite eating and drinking places in Milford. We visited four times in December. Lovely tapas, lovely staff. We kicked off our Christmas season with lunch and an evening visit on the day of Milford Christmas Lights Event. Milford really buzzes at this time of the year and it is great to see how the business community and local population put so much effort to making the event a success. Apart from a couple of lunches we went to their Italian wine tasting event mid December. Wow. So much fun from a very knowledgeable wine master. Some extremely palatable and reasonably priced wines as well. Naturally we made some purchases and enjoyed a tapas lunch as well. Look forward to our next visit.

Brilliant Tapas Food. 4of us sharing a mixture of delightful treats. Had the Cheese Board with Meat balls, Cheese Crochets & Chicken fillets. All very tasty. Shall be going again.

The Cave is a welcoming venue for tapas and a fantastic selection of wines, gins and draught beers. There was also some live music which was really in keeping with the atmosphere.

Visited for drinks and tapas .. great atmosphere..we were served by Chris, who was attentive and friendly. The food was lovely and we chose a bottle of wine from the shop. We will definitely visit again when we are in the area!

Came in for a lovely tapas supper and a couple glasses of really nice wine. Lovely looking place and chilled atmosphere. Staff were very friendly, ended up coming back the following night for a quick drink. Great gin selection. Highly recommended

Popped in for a G&T and local ale and this delivered. Lovely relaxed atmosphere with table service and a vast selection to choose from. Shame tapas wasn’t being served so we will need to return another time.

We visited this lovely place in 2018 when we were staying in the area, and as we were recently there again we had to go back as it is a fantastic, friendly place to grab a drink and food. We stopped for lunch and received a warm welcome and offered to choose a seat anywhere we wanted. As we had our dog with us, we sat towards the back. Very quickly we were offered drinks and we perused the Tapas menu. For us there was plentiful choice. We ordered 5 dishes to share, Farmhouse Pate, chutney, and toasted bread; Fried salt ‘n’ pepper calamari, garlic aioli; Boquerón’s, fresh anchovy fillets, sliced baguette, lemon & oil; Southern fried chicken fillets, sriracha sauce; Falafel with beetroot and humous. The food was so tasty I could of kept going, but knew I had had enough. A couple of pints of the local IPA and a coffee and lunch was delicious. I would drive the 1.5 hours from where I live to visit this place for a wonderful evening to sample their drinks and food any day. We will be back....

We’ve been to the Cave a fair bit but felt compelled to write a review after a memorable evening on Friday. We were met at the door by a charming young gentleman who welcomed us and showed us to a table. The bar was buzzing with a good number of smiling efficient staff who looked after us really well. Drinks and tapas were super too. It’s so nice to be offered another drink without having to hunt down a waiter or queue.

Loved it!! Second time I’ve been and first time I’ve eaten. It’s a sort of wine bar/gin bar/tapasy place - staff are knowledgeable, keen and attentive without being in your face - the drinks menu is extensive, but they will guide you through. Started with drinks on the green during the setting sun then moved inside to eat. Food was faultless - ham and cheese croquettes and the calamari were my favourite but everything was good - even the falafels (not normally my thing) were tasty. Will be back for sure

Calamari & Anchovies were very good, the Mushroom Croquettes and the Iberian Ham Croquettes were of a strange consistency inside, this gave a false flavour which was very disappointing unlike any croquettes we have ever had.

We had the most amazing food and cocktails here. The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. It has been a long time since I have been able to say that everything was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. I just wish we had found this at the beginning of our holiday. I will be highly recommending this to any friends who visit the area. If you get the chance to go you will not be disappointed.

First visit, managed to get a table, busy and great atmosphere, tapas food very good, staff spot on, ways available to take your order, so all in a great visit and would go back and recommend.

Trendy wine bar bistro with excellent service

Fabulous atmosphere on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Friendly staff, busy and buzzing, easy parking, spent an enjoyable few hours here

After a long drive from the midlands to the lovely sleepy town of Milford on sea, we descended on the cave! Met with smiles - we were not! As a group of family lads heading away for a weekend away, you can only imagine that a few beers, some nice wine and a bit of banter was on the menu. Unfortunately the owner of the bar (who refused to give his name at first), decided that good vibes and fun was strictly prohibited in these parts. After rudely joining our table, pulling up a chair, with an embarrassing attempt to intimidate us, he asked the purpose of our trip. Clearly only locals are permitted to drink and spend money in this disappointing establishment and being a multiple pub owner myself, with the tough times the worlds been through, we’d of expected to be made welcome. It’s clear when you look at the body language of the staff that John (when he finally gave his name), likes to make his presence known as there was a nervous atmosphere from the off! Get yourself down the smugglers! Far more accommodating.

Great place to sit and watch people on the green as you sit outside. Plenty of room inside with large selection of drinks. You can take your drink across to the green and sit at one of the picknick tables there. Friendly staff and locals.

A nice friendly venue. Good choices of drinks and food and a huge selection of takeaway wines and spirits. Always appears to have a good atmosphere. A shame they close at 11 sharp even on a Friday and Saturday nights

Pleasant environment for a glass of wine but quite expensive.

Have visited The Cave for lunch several times now. Good variety on the menu including excellent tapas and sharing platters and a wide variety of drinks available, Staff are knowledgeable about the necessity for coeliacs to have a gluten free diet and gluten free bread is also available. Great place!

Such a Gem in the Crown that is Milford on Sea. The Cave never disappoints and the choice is fabulous. The staff are friendly and always spend time helping you choose from their extensive menu.

Wine flights! And little tapas style plates. Staff here are lovely, helpful and informal, offering info and suggestions if you want them, and great and unintrusive service. After a flight and a shared bottle of very decently priced sancerre, I walked out without my baseball cap and the dog's treat bag....both were rushed to me, one by one as they turned up, by staff who ran to catch up, while I strolled half- cut across the green towards dinner proper. Wish we'd had more days in this town to do this again.

Popped in in the off chance and it was very busy with a vibrant atmosphere. The staff were helpful and accommodating and the food itself was excellent. Lovely little tapas dishes and a bottle of red on holiday. It’s what makes working hard worthwhile!! Thank you and keep it up!!

A good place for an afternoon glass of wine or a cocktail at the weekend. Fabulous choice of wine which you can also buy to take home. They do charcuterie plates and tapas dishes to accompany your wine. Friendly staff who can advise you on which wine to try. Free parking nearby in this beautiful little village of Milford on sea. I have knocked off a star, because I didn't find the furniture comfortable. I would have lingered longer if there were good comfy chairs!

What a charming bar... great staff who are really friendly and helpful. This place has an amazing atmosphere and a great selection of wines, beers and spirits. The decor is very trendy and they do fantastic tapas. Would strongly recommend. I was staying on a campsite nearby and went here twice.

While staying air B&B in Pennington the owners recommendation diary mentioned this local tapas bar. We rang early Friday evening to book a table but we’re advised to just turn up & will be accommodated which we were. On arrival it was very busy with a great buzzy vibe, a member of staff Young handsome polite male greeted us as soon as we stepped in the door & found us a table, service was very quick & incredibly friendly, I asked for a sangria which wasn’t on the drinks menu, but the bar guy was happy to make this for me! Now I’ve had a fair few sangrias in various Spanish resorts & this was one of the best also the various tapas dishes we ordered, anchovies, prawns, meatballs, stuffed mushrooms , Spanish omelette were all incredibly tasty & piping hot This food was definitely on par with our local Authentic Spanish restaurant back home A great first meal out on our weekend away in New Forest Lovely friendly personable staff , very tasty hot food in a great atmospheric modern eclectic bar Would definitely return when in the area Thank you all!

Great food and a fantastic variety of wine. They also sell beer and cider on tap as well as by the bottle. You can eat / drink either inside or out on the village green, drink is served in plastic glasses. You are not able to reserve a table.

A fabulous surprise to find this amazing wine/tapas bar hidden away in Milford on Sea. Opposite the village green, it offers the biggest selection of wines, spirits and cocktails I've seen in a long time. The tapas selection is delicious but get there early in the evening as it is a very popular place and very busy from early evening onwards.
