The Castle Hotel in Denbighshire

Called here on a rainy Friday afternoon for a drink to escaped the rain. We ordered on the app and within a couple of minutes a polite bar staff member brought our drinks over. We stayed for several more and in that time we chatted to a lot of friendly locals. The pub was well set out and very clean and tidy throughout all areas. We enjoyed it that much we called in the next morning for breakfast. It arrived quick and it was hot. A big shout out to the bar staff who brought us the drinks while we played the ‘Wetherspoons game’ Another thank you to a couple of locals who helped us drink all our shots! Would visit here again, and probably stay here in one of the rooms.

Been here many times over the years and never had any complaints, I love the building and the view from the outside area. We ordered our burgers at the bar and within three minutes our meals were served! The burgers had obviously been cooked before and were burnt and horrible. I would rather wait and have an edible burger.

Really disappointing meal out with family. The food was awful and pretty much thrown down on the table. We’ll give this place a miss next time we’re in Ruthin.

After looking forward to a nice lunch at Ruthin Wetherspoon we opened the back entrance door and was nearly knocked back with the discusting smell of the area. I will not go in there again until it has a complete refit of carpet ect. It was sickening.

We stayed in the hotel as we were attending a wedding in the village. Staff were less than helpful between the hotel and restaurant. The reception was unmanned at arrival and bar staff where less than interested in this .. eventually we got the room only to find half drank bottle of water which I took took down to staff to request a fresh bottle, I heard the young lady refer to me as “that woman wants a bottle” to which I did interrupt politely and say we have literally just walked in the room and found that there was a lot of huffing and puffing from the young lad behind the bar and I was handed a bottle with no apology or anything. Very rude attitude. The breakfast the following morning was terrible it was cold , we sat and listened to another table complaining about their food and their disappointment in how the female staff where handling their complaint so I politely said to the young lad behind the bar that ours was always cold and I received a simple “ok” from him. We left feeling very disappointed and under appreciated for our custom over the weekend. Will not return unless improvements are made.

“Appalling” 16 May 2023 Hard to believe the fact that you expect hot food to be too much for them to handle! Read enclosed, in response to a complaint Date of visit: May 2023. I wrote a complaint about the manager who after I was asked if my food was ok (approx 30 min after finishing most of my food, I said yes but the side dish was too cold to eat. ) I was subjected to the manager telling me my expectations were too high?! I said, expecting hot food to be hot is too high an expectation?? Yes he replied. I wrote to the head office and the following is taken from their email: “the manager has banned you from this pub as you were abusive, this decision will not be overturned”. laughably, I was in the large hall when I spoke to him and I had family with me, I was not abusive, as others would have heard. I actually asked him to record the discussion to protect me and him. His attitude was unprofessional and uncalled for and I’d be interested to hear if the footage that actually recorded the conversation was submitted to the head office.. I would not recommend this place to anyone, there are better eateries with nicer staff nearby.

This is a big pub with many different zones, so easy to find somewhere that suits the mood. Prices are very reasonable, with drinks included in the dishes. The food could be more exciting, but quite ok.

Not to be confused with the Ruthin Castle Hotel - this is the Weatherspoon's Pub in the centre of Ruthin. We had a meal here one evening and it was good. Plenty of food but tasty and well cooked as well - oh, and inexpensive.

We didn't stay at the hotel but couldn't find anywhere else to post about a meal there. This was our 3rd Wetherspoons on our 16 nights touring around in our caravan with one more to post. They appeared to take chicken off the menu a few years ago which was disappointing but put it back on, but I didn't get round to trying it until we dined in Birkenhead recently. Anyway, I enjoyed it so much that I ordered it again – half a chicken marinated in lemon and herbs served with chips, coleslaw and garlic dip. The half chicken was even larger than the one I had the other day and included a Cherry Pepsi. My husband had the All Day Brunch which included a pint of Guinness and it worked out at £20.46 for both of us. Service was good.

I had my niece wedding there the venue was nice good was not great the rooms need updated there was bottle left on the banister at breakfast they ran out of stuff I would not recommend it unless it changes

Arrived at 2pm, stayed all afternoon and evening and overnight. Car park was a nightmare if staying over night. 90 per cent of staff excellent, let down by witnessing about 6 staff members sitting out the back talking negatively about other staff and management for several hours. I totally get that we all need to vent but immediatly outside the door in full ear shot of customers isn't the best. Don't understand the no vape rule across the car park from the pub, its outside and not offensive at all but we adhered to the rules as asked. We bought several members off staff a drink, they all seemed quite shocked at the offer which is a shame, bar staff and waitresses work bloody hard and deserve recognition. Thank u for a nice stay

We chose this location to spend a three night stay in a delux room for our 40 th anniversary . And have to say that we were extremely disappointed. There was not much that we could say that was good about the experience. The whole place felt like that it had just opened and that everyone was feeling their way around with very little experience of dealing with customers. First off in the three days that we were there we never had a one come to service the room at all. We had no top up of any of the in room tea and coffee items and initially there was no sugar there at all. The water in the sink did not drain away, which was a pain , as the water in the sink did not get hot unless it was run for ages, and as it didn’t run away was impossible to gain any hot water from the tap. The hair dryer attached to the wall made it impossible to use to dry one’s hair, and basically was only functional for a man to have a quick blow to dry his hair, my own fault I should have taken my own hair dryer. The food in the menu in the restaurant left a lot to be desired and staying for three nights lacked any choice, we had the Sunday roast on the first night, minus any apple sauce with the roast pork or Any horseradish sauce with the roast beef. No marmalade available for breakfast toast first morning, but it did appear on the second morning. The bar consisted of a very uninviting room with tables arranged around the perimeter, not at all like the picture shown on the internet. All in all an extremely disappointing experience, given that I had arranged this trip to take my disabled husband away for a few days , I felt very let down by secret escapes who were advertising this place, especially as I had upgraded for a delux room.

Ordered a burger. Forgot to add cheese. Asked them to put cheese on. Plate was taken into the kitchen. Plate was brought back and I was told I need to pay at the bar for cheese first before they will put it on. Asked for a refund as food would go cold. Off the server went holding my plate of food. to ask about this a refund. Another staff member arrived CARRYING MY FOOD and told me as it was.my fault I forgot cheese and won't go pay at the bar I won't be allowed a refund. Asked for manager. She came CARRYING MY PLATE OF FOOD. she was Rude, snotty, just wanted to win an argument. Again told me no refund allowed. Ok I told her to forget the cheese then....forget the refund...I'll eat it but can I have a fresh one as everyone has been walking around with it....went into detail about cross contamination. She went to ask another manager. Came back and said NO...why would I want a fresh one she hasn't been holding the burger only the plate, she understands good hygiene and dosent see my issue. Higher manager also said no I wasn't allowed a fresh one even thought it had been handled by 3 staff and been around the pub and into the kitchen. Plate was taken away. I sat in disbelief. Then I thought ...I've payed £7.19 for that I'll take it and give it to my dogs. Asked the manergeress where was it and can I have it in a take away bag for my dogs ...she said sat in the kitchen and no because it's been sat there too long. Ended up getting it in a take away bag after more arguing and her rude attitude . Manageress told me as she handed it to me "dogs aren't allowed onion by the way". Absolute joke. Will never go there again. Disgusting.

Clean and great location. Was a busy place. We only used it is a base and place to sleep, whilst we visited family and it served us very well.
