Perfect place for a perfect and relaxed dinner. Owners and collaborators professional and very nice!

We popped in for an early tea while driving south. Staff were very friendly and the food was great, prices very good too. Will hopefully return for lunch with the family one weekend.

We waited for our friends for quite a while and the personnel was super friendly and patient. The food was great, loved the lentil soup. We went back for tea later in the afternoon and sat outside in the sunshine in the garden. Thank you for the great experience!

Popped in for lunch after visiting the abbey. A warm welcome by the staff and a table straight away. The menu is good and proper food, even a curry on the menu. We had the steak mushroom ale pie, really nice and a good price. Very happy with the place and will go again, thanks.

Stopped off with a friend after visiting nearby Donkey Sanctuary, we both had the same, pate then Brie and cranberry panini, service was fast and friendly, pate very very good, and both of us had to sneak half the panini in our bags as the portions were so big, the chips were extra crunchy and HUGE. Toilets were spotless and had a basket of feminine products and another of freshen up items, wipes, deodorant, and hairspray, very good idea, the 2 staff who served us were very friendly and efficient, definitely be back and recommend.

Met up with family now living in Edinburgh. We found the staff here really helpful and obliging. Nothing too much trouble. Menu choice was good as we ranged from 8-80+ years and we found something suitable for everyone. A lovely bar and restaurant. Will certainly revisit when next in the area.

Have dined here every time I have been in the area, and on every occasion have been very pleased with the standard of food and service. However on my second visit, on this trip toThe Borders, I was more than a little bit disappointed with the breaded Eyemouth haddock that I was served. I did ask before I ordered if it would be exactly the same fish as the battered version, and was assured that it would be. However when it arrived, it was around half the thickness of the battered one, and much smaller in size overall, furthermore, it was as dry as a stick. It wouldn't stop me from returning, as everything else I have sampled has been great, but certainly couldn't recommend that particular dish.

Excellent stop off for lunch in Jedburgh. Roast beef dinner for the wife and steak, mushroom and ale pie for me. Freshly cooked veg and the crispness chips I have had for a long time that soaked up the lovely thick gravy. Friendly staff and nice pint as well

We visited yesterday on a day trip to Jedburgh and were looking for somewhere nice to lunch. We had seen good reviews so thought we would give it a try. It was a Wednesday just after 1pm and when we walked in the restaurant area was around half full. The lady who appeared to be in charge came over to us and I asked for a table for 6. She promptly said that she couldn't accommodate 6, there was a 20 minute wait for food and they shut at 2. As there were a number of empty tables I asked if we could sit on separate tables in that case, to which she seemed reluctant to agree to but said was ok, reminding us again there was a wait for food. She then walked off and proceeded to speak to the other lady working behind the bar, who looked over at us and laughed! We were wondering at this point if we had made a big mistake. The first lady then came and took our drinks order but appeared harassed, with little patience when my elderly parents had trouble hearing her. There was a party of around 10 on another table and I feel that this was her problem. There again if you can't cope with busy periods in an eaterie you are definitely in the wrong profession. Having said all of this, our food when it arrived, after not too long a wait was lovely, no complaints on this front and the other younger lady, mentioned previously was very pleasant. All in all, a lovely meal just let down badly by the welcome!

Friendly staff and lovely building however the options on tap are poor, the decor needs updating and justca general injection of cash into this beautiful building. We didn't eat so can't comment on that but the beer options put us off so we didn't return.

Thank you to our two lovely servers who made us feel so welcome on one of the hottest/busiest days of the year. There was a great choice on the menu, I can especially recommend the Baileys Cheescake. Nothing was too much for the servers and it really made our day with how friendly they were. We will see you again soon.

We stopped off here on our way back up to Inverness. Upon arriving the waitress apologised and explained they were extremely short staffed. Despite this they were extremely polite and friendly. Given how short staffed they were we expected a lengthy wait for the food but it arrived within about ten minutes and was both fresh and tasty! Highly recommend!

We intended to eat here on Tuesday 3rd May after just arriving in Jedburgh for a stay. Their Facebook page said they were open all day and shut at 8.00 pm and Google said they shut at 5.00pm so we hurried on down before 5...

Friendly service with plenty place to sit, however there was a relatively small selection of drinks. Sports on the TV which was perfect for the Grand National. Good location but looked nicer on the outside.

We had an evening meal here. My husband had Pate for a starter and I had Soup of the day. We both had Curry for our main meal. It was all very tasty. The staff were fabulous, so friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.

Called in and had steak and onion panini with chips and salad. Very nice chips lovely and hot. Toilets nice and clean with hand sanitizer available inside also. Waitress very pleasant. Would call again if ever that way again.

Ate here whilst staying over in Jedburgh. The staff are lovely and friendly and felt very much a family atmosphere. The food is traditionally scottish - but tasty and filling. Will return when we come back to Jedburgh next year.

Warm atmosphere with welcoming staff who were friendly. Good choice on menu , steak pie and hand cut chips were homemade and tasted amazing. Lamb shank was succulent and cooked well. Draft lager was refreshing and the cheesecake was a real treat. A nice pub/restaurant - recommended

Called in for lunch with my Family, A lovely Restaurant/Bar, clean, well kept and very popular. The Service was Excellent as was the food. We will go again. A+++

Been coming to Jed for 20 years (we're from -- and live in -- San Francisco. Have dear friends who are natives of Jed and we always come here. Good solid, unfussy food (a nice change from our city!) STeak pie, chips, good bar - and the people who run it and work for it are true gems, lovely folk. You just can't go wrong. They have also been great over the years when I call in Dec. and ask if they can run a "due bill" for my Jedburgh friends as a Christmas present!

We needed a dinner on Sunday evening at Jedburgh and Carters Rest was open. We were 4 walkers and this was convenient and very good quality wholesome food.

Cozy pub with nice food. We had the garlic bread, pea soup and steak pie, which were all wonderful. The staff are very friendly and the food is reasonably priced.

We had no booking...but on arrival, we were made most welcome, and told yes.. if we were prepared to wait 1/2 hour... we would be fed. No problems....Good menu...excellent service, by most courteous and well mannered staff..all very friendly.... Good night. Would recommend.

On a Monday evening a lot of eating places seem to be closed, so we were please to find this place open. We booked a table to ensure that we could sit down later as it can get busy. The only negative was that the beer wasn't great but otherwise food and staff were great.

The Restuarant was able to fit me in after a large party unexpectedly arrived, and the staff made sure to check on me throughout. Great food and a great location.

Essendo arrivati alle 15, era tardi per il pranzo, ma ci hanno servito delle ottime zuppe e hamburger cotti a puntino.

Came by to eat for the evening after received a recommendation earlier in the day.

Well, first visit to Jedburgh, Googled dog friendly pubs, and at the top of the List was this pub, to be honest it was dry when we first arrived. I ordered two drinks whilst my wife waited outside with our three dogs, I asked the bar staff if I was allowed to bring the dogs in I was informed no!! The restaurant area was completely empty, and there was no reason why we couldn’t just sit in a corner. Our dogs are more behaved the most children, but still we were not allowed in so we sat outside to drink our drinks. As soon as we got our drinks and we were stood outside it started to rain, so we had to stand in the doorway whilst we finished our drinks. They were the quickest drinks we had, and then we went to find a pub that allowed dogs in. Had a wonderful meal and the dogs are most welcome, if you have dogs please be aware you are not allowed in and the pub should update their website accordingly.

After our excursions my wife and I decided to eat out and chose this place due to the proximity to the Abbey and how popular it was .We both had the fish which was itemised as coming from Craster and it was amazing, the fillet was almost the size of the plate.The staff were very friendly and chatted to us about the events of the week etc.A very pleasant visit.

Really good food and plenty of it whilst being reasonably priced. The staff are welcoming and very helpful. We will eat there again when we are next in Jedburgh. I’d recommend it and if you get the chance, it’s worth booking first as it is very popular!

unfortunately i didnt have any food in this establishment, but if you are after a place for a very quiet drink then this is the place for you, the bar is very compact and comfortable, great service from all staff and the beer was reasonably priced, if i ever go back to jedburgh i will definitely be in for another visit

Belle présentation extérieure et belle carte. L'assiette n'est pas à la hauteur ni en qualité, ni en prix. Viande médiocre, si c'est leur fameux "roast topside of scottish beef and yorkshire pudding" du dimanche que j'ai mangé, j'en conclus que les écossais ne sont pas difficiles ! La viande rappelle celle des cantines de mon enfance (1970)... on a mangé 10 fois mieux dans des pubs plus ordinaires en apparence.

We enjoyed everything we got served: an excellent carrot soup, a beefsteak in a spicy sauce with an extremely tender meat, chicken curry etc. and at the end a great local 12 year old Whiskey and a sweet speciality to die for: chocolate fridge cake!!! Simply delicious!!!

We took a recommendation from the host at our B&B;, and were not disappointed. The interior may need an uplift but the food does not disappoint. We had haggis balls and pate with oatcakes, both tasty.

Although the decor is a bit tired, the food was excellent and the service very good with friendly staff.

We ended up going to this restaurant several times as the food was very good. Staff particularly helpful and friendly. I would recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly.

Fantastic food at The Carters Rest. Big portions too and very friendly staff. What more could you ask for. On our next visit to Jedburgh this place is most definitely on our to do list.

Had relatives here & we went for dinner last night which was lovely, staff so nice, food was delicious & washed down with a wee drink aswell, will definitely be back very soon.

This is probably the best 'pub type' eating place in the town of Jedburgh itself although to be fair there are not many. Belters was closed when we were there but it looked tired from the outside.

We visited at lunchtime on a Sunday and whilst the staff were friendly and welcoming and offered efficient and speedy service the meal itself was certainly very ‘average’, we both had thenSunday roast beef and though the veg and gravy were fresh, well cooked and tasty the beef was boring and and looked dull, the roast potatoes were awful and the Yorkshire pudding was like cardboard.

What a great find and only a 10 minute walk from our B & B, we booked our table about a week before our visit because of its popularity.

Nice pub / restaurant right in the middle of town opposite the Abbey ruins. Had a couple of pints and an evening meal here while staying locally.

After all the attractions in Jedburgh we needed food and shade out the sun.

There are not many restaurants open on a Monday evening in Jedburgh but the Carters Rest is an exception. We decided to give it a try. However, on arrival, we were told that there was a large function taking place at the back. This meant a very limited selection was available on the menu due to pressure on the kitchen. The maîtresse d’hotel was able to give us the three choices in a sentence. Recognising the weakness of our position, we decided on four fish and chips and one scampi and took our table for five. Given the pressure on the staff, service was prompt and efficient and our food was perfectly good. Full marks to the staff for keeping the show on the road at a busy time. However, subsequent arrivals For supper left disappointed.

We went there for a quick dinner with our 3 kids. The staff were very accommodating, the food was delicious, and it was a lovely friendly vibe. Would definitely recommend it.

Having not managed to get a meal there on Friday as it was fully booked, I really enjoyed my meal there this evening. My main course was lamb and I do not think I have ever seen so much lamb on one plate! Finished it but could not manage a sweet aftetwards. Bonus was meeting a YesBiker. Great final evening to my weekend in Jedburgh.

We pre-booked a table for 14 on our St Cuthbert's walk and had the advantage of of preordering off the menu. I had a starter of Haggis Balls deep fried - perfectly adequate, and lamb shank with vegetables - sublime and approaching perfection! Others in the party ordered fish & chips: they didn't get a fish, but a whale!! Everyone agreed that the cooking was superb, but only one of us was up to tackling a dessert! We all gave it high marks.

Good pub food in a nice, clean, tidy pub at a reasonable price. Right opposite the abbey in a great location in a nice town.

We stumbled across this pub and are very pleased we did. A warm welcome from the lovely staff and the food was fantastic. The kids meals were good portion sizes and our son said the pie was ‘beautiful’. We had the specials venison burgers which were really lovely. Can also recommend the haggis starter. Thankyou, we really enjoyed our meals.

I can’t give a review as I didn’t get to taste the food. The last few times we have tried to go here there have always been a reason not to get a table. Once was, we have a wedding so not too keen on walk ins- fair enough but in December, at 7.55pm on a Friday night, chef has closed the kitchen as kitchen has been going since lunch! Well really, I cook for a living mate, try 6am until 1am without a break and that’s 7 days. Get a grip.

After a long journey we decided to make a wee lunch stop which brought us to The Carters Rest, the staff were very attentive and the portion size was of a rather large size,we opted for the fish which was beautifully cooked, would highly recommend if visiting Jedburgh.

We were originally heading for another pub that had better reviews, but it was closed, so we ended up here despite having initially rejected it due to the reviews about poor staff. We were pleasantly surprised - staff were attentive and helpful, food was absolutely fine and a decent price. My only issue was that although it states it’s veggie friendly, it could do with a few more choices - there was only one veggie panini for example.

Been to this place many times and it never disappoints. Always friendly staff, food always lovely and even when its full it has a nice homely feel about it.

Went to this place at 1830 hrs on 16/11/18 looking for a table for 4 only to be told that the chef said NO,the place was not busy and most of the people were eating.We are all in our seventies,so give this place a miss .This is pub grub.Make a booking for the Capon tree for a real treat.

Having parked the car at the public car park at the southern entrance to Jedburgh, this was the first pub we came across and decided to give a try. The waitress was extremely cheerful and also provided some advice on local beers. We ordered the steak pie (as pictured in the picture gallery above) and were delighted with our choice. Lots of tender beef in a tasty gravy under a light fluffy pastry hat. Can only recommend.

The food here is very very average, and the staff here are obnoxious and rude. There’s nothing personal about the service, it’s in and out. Miserable staff & very clicky! Will definitely not be back.
