The Carpenters Arms in Carmarthenshire

I purchased a glass of wine (Jack Rabbit, Pinot Grigio) which I had in a nearby pub the day before but this one was awful. Undrinkable. I took it back and said “I think this bottle may have been open too long . She said “I have just opened it” and refused to give me another glass. I had to purchase another small Prosecco. Then the meal was awful. Ready meals I think? Dried up and tasteless Definitely will not be going back

Friendly staff, a warm welcome, nice food, good (and quick) service, hot fire on a very rainy day and a lovely dog that was very patient with the kids

Im writing this as we are sat in The Carpenter's, next to a blazing fire, drinking a lovely pint on a comfy sofa with the most handsome dog whilst watching the rugby. Me and my partner both have full bellies after a beautiful meal which was cooked for us by a wonderful friendly landlady. I only wish we lived closer to this place as we have both agreed we could make visiting here a habit. What a great find. Fantastic place

This is under new management and is now terrible! The manageress has no manners and is totally rude, she needs to go on a hospitality course! She didn't like us complaining about the food being cold and she didn't apologize. I could write a book about how bad it was but that would take too long on here. Need I say more? It was a horrible experience!

Well where to start... So I booked Sunday Lunch for my family as a rare get together and thought we'd try somewhere new. Upon arriving the place was inviting, and the two young girls were pleasant and polite. We were shown to our table to find there were no menus on the table. So as I got up from the table to go to the bar and ask this elderly lady came over with a note pad (later found out she was the manager!). I asked her please can we have a menu, she said I've got it here and waved a minute notepad in the air. She then quite rudely said 'are you listening' to my son as I was trying to get back into my seat, after asking my son to move in. She proceeded, quite rapidly, to read off her notepad the menu for the day. We asked what they had for kids and the reply was 'smaller portions of the adults.' After she took our order, she had the cheek to pour the rest of my sons diet coke can into his glass without even asking! We felt like we were back in school with a nasty school dinner lady. The bizarre experience was about to get worse. Our food was served STONE COLD as if it had been kept in a fridge. I went to the bar to complain and the young girl apologised and said she would sort it for us. The 'sorting' did NOT happen. The plates came back out, but it wasn't the food(veg) we had originally chosen for our plates. We were missing roast potatoes, we had veg on our plate that we hadn't chosen originally and there was now no gravy to be seen! We sent the plate back to ask for these extras and when they came back they were still cold! We are not in Bulgaria! When the young girl came to ask if things were ok, I said we were not paying for our food, but will pay for the drinks. The rude dinner lady then came to clear the rest of the plates and didn't even have the decency to give us any apology, although we did receive a scoul! Needless to say we didn't stay for dessert and we quickly scarpared never to return again! Afterwards I went to have another look at their Facebook page and it has since been taken down/temporarily or permanently. Gordon Ramsey and Alex Polizzi would have a field day today! AVOID SPENDING ANY MONEY OR TIME HERE.

We had a great meal at The Carpenters Arms, the staff and locals were so friendly and helpful. My husband loved the Thai fish cakes and I had one of the best fillet steaks ever! Don’t bother with the steak knife, it cuts like butter anyway. Thank you to Lottie and her team, we’ll be back for sure! 😁 My only regret is that we enjoyed it so much we didn’t take any photos. We’d recommend a visit for anyone wanting delicious and classic pub grub

this was a great experience for my family and I. A clean restaurant very friendly and helpful staff, and most of all reasonably priced and delicious food. Would definitely recommend it and will most certainly choose to eat there again.

Poor quality food and very small portions. One roast potato with a roast dinner!! Very poor customer service also, which could have saved future custom from us, family and friends. A real shame, as been there plenty of times under previous management and always been excellent food and service.

We wanted a Sunday roast with plenty of vegetables and we found it here! Tasty choice of meats, plus roast potatoes, Yorkshire pud, cabbage, carrots, mashed swede, parsnips, mashed potato, cauliflower cheese, stuffing and don’t forget the peas! Great value for money, extra gravy offered and service with a smile.

After we found these to accommodate us as a family of 5. We arrived was offered some drinks and asked to go to our table, which we had to find our selfs. We sat awaiting menus to be told no menus today. The lady was reading off a sheet of card. I asked what vegetarian and gluten options were available as the menu looked good online. I was then told they have nothing with the dietary requirements. For a family to be told that after being seated abit odd. The rest of my family ate well 3 of them Service was terrible the older lady waitress with dark hair and some sort of wet looking trousers was so miserable, she slammed the plates on the table without saying a word really. Really needs some customer service work done there. I then sat outside will the rest of my family ate, where I watched here serve another table completely different I guess they were regulars or her friends and had different food to what we was offered on the menu. Over all shocking

So sad to see this place has gone down hill. Visited it there today with my family from scotland not a good experience.Firstly they had no recollection of our booking which was made on Friday, then our drinks order was wrong after asking for half pints we were given pints. Shown to our table and our order was taken, after about a 20minute Wait the lady came to our table and asked if we were ready to order , while it was herself that took our orde in the first place we asked about having 2 meats from the carvery selection and was told there would be a supplement which was fine but then other people were ordering 2 meats and no supplement !, After waiting an hour and still no sign of our meal coming we went to ask would we have to Waite much longer the lady apologise and said it would be with us in the next 5 to 10 mins and that we could have the next drinks on the house! We had a further 20 minute Waite before meal eventually appeared and what a disappointment. The food was cold and badly cooked with no seasoning and no one came near us to ask if everything was ok. On coming to pay the bill, we asked to speak to the manager so that we could air our disappointment with the meal, the manager had a careless attitude and no professionalism in how to deal with her guests or complaints. Her reason for the bad service and food was that they had only recently taken over the businesses and they were still learning.

Good basic menu well cooked and served by friendly helpful staff. They even brought us an extra bowl of chips because the chef thought their weren't enough on the plate. We were made very welcome and we will definitely go back.

one of the best Sunday lunches in a long time, very tasty with plenty of veg and lovely gravy, The meat was so tender and lots of it, would highly recommend. The premises were spotless and the staff were spot on too, nothing to much trouble will definitely return in the very near future

This Pub/restaurant goes from strength to strength. We have just returned for a new season at a nearby caravan sight and the welcome was like long lost friends. The Food and service is brilliant would recommend to any traveller. All food cooked to order

One of the best Sunday lunges we have had. Gorgeous beef, turkey and pork with an amazing selection of veg. I could have eaten a while bowl full of the Swede! The two ladies who served us were lovely. Can't recommend the Sunday menu enough.

Me and my girlfriend were staying local and saw this pub on the way through, we thought we would try it and oh my god what a lovely friendly welcoming pub, the staff were welcoming and the food is out of this world, the portions are massive!! And the chips are amazing, definitely worth a stop!!

We visited this pub for an evening meal mid January. Because it was out if season and so quiet they were about to close as we arrived. However they stayed open just for us and served us the most delicious home made curry we have ever had. We will happily recommend and return to this pub if we are in the area again.

We were staying in laugharne with friends decided to go here on our last night. We all agreed it was the best meal out we ve had for a while. The beef curry was superb the steaks melted in our mouths . Highly recommended

Food ok but place empty on a Saturday nightand with no atmosphere. Reasonably priced. Difficult to know what else to say.

Went there as renting cottage up road and a accomodated us well as 13 of us in total and at short notice. Food was good on the whole, the only thing that ruined it was the sauce for the steaks was curry sauce rather than peppercorn sauce!! We were made to feel welcome.

Pub recommend for Sunday lunch must book in advance.As promised the carvary was well presented and staff friendly. The three of us had the beef plus all trimmings. Veg perfect especially the parsnips. The beef just melted so tender. How they do this for less than £10 I don’t know.

Called at the carpenters for an evening meal. We all had steak, but my son had a 16oz steak. Steaks were lovely and the vegetables and mash. Owners and staff were really lovely and friendly. They could not do enough for you. Really friendly and homely atmosphere. Will visit again next time we are in laugharne. Highly recommended.

We live local to the carpenters and what can I say the food will not be beaten the price will not be beaten we have Sunday carvery almost weekly as it's so lovely all home cooked then we went this Friday for our anniversary where my Husband had mixed grill It was the best he has ever had I had hunters chicken which was just stunning the staff are fab there always helpful and checking that everything is okay

We sat in the bar because we had the dog with us. Very pleasant barmaid took our orders, we both had steak with a side order of onion rings. Well what a great meal, steak cooked to perfection, lovely salad & great onion rings. We couldn't believe how reasonable the food & drinks were, only reason I didn't give a five is because they had no decent cask ale on but a very enjoyable meal. Thank you.

Went to a70th Birthday party on Saturday night. The food was excellent. Sandwiches were fresh and superb with plenty of filling. Freshly roasted meats. Great selection of food. Will recommend The Carpenters if anyone is thinking of celebrating a special occasion with a party. Sunday lunch is also really nice.

Strangely enough, most of the restaurants in the area of Laugharne, are closed Monday and Tuesday, but not the Carpenters Arms. The food was as good as the staff, who were young and keen.

We had an evening meal and I chose the mixed grill. Although I consider I have a good appetite I was defeated by it and took some of the meat home in a doggybag. Food was very good and so was the service.

This was our second visit to the Carpenters but the first for our Granddaughter and her boyfriend Like us they enjoyed.

I love this place. Great home cooked food, generous portions and a menu for vegetarians, meat lovers and a healthy eaters. Customer service was brilliant, and all for a great price. When we visit this area again this is where we will eat.

Another fabulous lunch.This is my fourth visit for Sunday lunch and I cannot fault it.On this occasion I took two friends and they were equally impressed.

We came here as a group of six when staying in the area to see the vintage hot rods race along Pendine sands.

It was our third visit to this friendly pub/restaurant. I had the stew with mash and peas,, the wife had the pork steak with new potatoes and peas. Both meals were excellent and served by a really friendly waitress who couldn't have been more attentive. Good value for money and great home cooking. We'll be back on our next annual visit to our favourite part of the country.

We called here after finding our planned restaurant closed. The landlord welcomed us despite it being a very busy evening with a caoch party taking up the main area. This resulted in only a short delay for our food being served. Dinner was well cooked and tasty.

We have eaten here on a few occasions this year 2019 and last year 2018 having only discovered this gem of a place a few years ago. If you want to have a very nice meal with friendly staff and not very expensive then this is the place. Great selection of meals also VERY large portions,definitely just like eating at your local with lots of friendly people , the staff even remembered us from the year before. Would definitely recommend a visit for an excellent meal .

Fabulous stay for me and my fiance. The owners couldn't do enough for , the room was spotless and the breakfast lovely. We ate in the hotel and the portions were fab and the food tasty. Highly recommended.

Had 2 meals here. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious and the prices and portions were excellent. The food was we’ll presented and fresh and would command a far greater price in most restaurants.

Lovely staff, good variety of food on the menu, large portions and accommodating to all members of the family … the landlord even turned over the tv so that our 11 year old could watch part of the football match of his favourite team, even though the landlord's team was playing on another channel! Happy boy - happy parents!

Nice food, and the portions are massive, so big in fact that dessert and coffee were a no go, lovely friendly, helpful staff.

We had dinner here. My wife had a goat's cheese salad and I had crab cakes for starters, followed by a minted lamb steak and a beef rump steak respectively. In summary, good pub food at a reasonable price. If you like your beer Portuguese, they had Sagres on draught.

We had dinner here. Service from a young waitress was polite and friendly although for both us and another table she forgot to bring replacement cutlery after the first course until asked.

We recently went to Laugharne for a few days following our wedding. On the night we arrived everything in the town centre was closed so we followed the road up out of the town and found the Carpenters had lights on.

Called in for a meal,really good atmosphere,bright and friendly place.Good home cooked food,friendly service and very reasonable prices. Definitely go again and recommend to anyone who is in the area, lovely night.

We were staying nearby so we decided to try out the Carpenters Arms for food. We were very impressed. The food was nice, priced reasonably and the portions were huge. The service we received was also excellent.

Very large helpings well presented by a most attentive staff member. Very good value. only slight negative was difficult wheelchair access. We managed as the food smell was too tempting.
